Cello Metal veterans Apocalyptica return with their stunning new single 'Ashes Of The Modern World'4/10/2019 Bristling with an epically baroque life and energy, Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rockers Apocalyptica have unveiled their brand new single ‘Ashes Of The Modern World.’ The song is taken from Cell-0, their upcoming ninth studio album, released on January 10th via Silver Lining Music. The powerful video was directed by the award-winning Finnish photographer/videographer Ville Juurikkala who has worked with a wide variety of prominent artists from Guns N’ Roses and Aerosmith to opera singer Andrea Bocelli. The recording of Cell-0 followed a four-year break between albums that gave the band - Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso, Paavo Lötjönen, and Mikko Sirén, all of whom are classically-trained musicians - a fresh perspective and affected the way they approached the new music. The album sees them return to their roots and is the quartet’s first instrumental album in 17 years, finding Apocalyptica challenging themselves to discover new flavours and colours in their respective instruments. “It is tough to express without lyrics, but in Cell-0, we found particles of our universe previously unknown to us,” they explained. “Millions of notes combine to create music just as millions of cells combine to create life, and when you visualize the whole thing, similar patterns appear.” Produced by Apocalyptica, mixed by Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, Metallica and Black Sabbath), and recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki, Cell-0 sees the band soaring into ethereal space on ‘Ashes Of The Modern World,’ while diving head-first into aggressive thrash cello-riffery during ‘En Route To Mayhem.’ Rather than put strategic attention on aspects like writing singles, the band approached Cell-0 as a fully-formed piece of art, connecting the right details and hues with the energy of being a real cello-metal band. By pushing themselves to find other places and levels in their music, Apocalyptica opened up to some seemingly unorthodox methods and emotions while travelling through that creative process. “These new songs have so many layers and are so complex, and it’s not always easy to point exactly what they are about,” Toppinen expresses. “But I think that’s also the beauty of instrumental music, that the listener always can feel free to experience the same songs in very, very different ways. It’s also one reason why we don’t want to explain the songs before they’re experienced.” In support of the release of Cell-0, Apocalyptica will Special Guest with Sabaton on a 15-country, 23-date European arenas tour, including an appearance at Wembley Arena on February 8th 2020. After playing an extensive European tour with Turisas and Trollfest in support of their latest studio album 'Kulkija' ('Wanderer'), the band is about to kick off an 8-show Australian & New Zealand run (w/ Troldhaugen) tomorrow. But before the sextet continues their current touring cycle with a North American co-headline tour with their label mates in Eluveitie in September/October, Korpiklaani will perform a string of European festival gigs. In anticipation of these upcoming summer dates - starting at Metalfest Open Air, Pilsen (CZ) on June 2nd - the band has unleashed a brand new lyric video for the Czech version of their all-time favourite 'Beer Beer', which can also be found on the tour edition of 'Kulkija'. Check out 'Bír Bír' [ft. Fleret] over on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4drIAMzV7qg Fleret comments:- "The cooperation with Korpiklaani on the Czech version of their hit song 'Beer Beer (Bír Bír)' convinced us that even folk metal superstars like them can be nice guys with stellar manners. Not only did they prove this during the rehearsal at the Masters Of Rock Café in Zlín but also on the Masters Of Rock 2018 festival stage where we played with them after only one rehearsal of their song 'Vodka', our song 'Vizovice' and then - we believe we can say - our common song 'Beer Beer (Bír Bír)' with the Czech lyrics of our lyricist Jan Mrlík. That was a remarkable and exciting experience for us and hopefully for Korpiklaani as well. Korpiklaani, thanks to all of you!" The track will be available digitally from Friday, May 24! The song represents the first new material from the New Zealand based metal trio since releasing their 2018 debut album, Tū. Fans can check out the music video for "Ahi Kā" via the link below. The track is also featured on Adult Swim's new, streaming-only compilation record Metal Swim 2. Alien Weaponry's singer-guitarist Lewis de Jong talks about "Ahi Ka" (Which, like many of the band's songs, is sung in New Zealand's indigenous language of Te Reo Māori):- "Ahi Kā was inspired by the Auckland city council's decision to burn down what was considered to be the unsightly indigenous Maori village of Okahu Bay in advance of Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 visit. The eviction sparked a 40-year battle for the native Ngati Whatua to reclaim their land, including protests and battles with the police. Amid worldwide criticism, a small portion of the original land was ultimately returned with an apology and some compensation." Watch "Ahi Ka" HERE "Ahi Kā" is available for streaming and purchase through Spotify and iTunes (respectively) over HERE! Fans and music critics alike have applauded the band's approach to unifying Te Reo Māori (the native language of New Zealand) with thrash metal sensibilities; ultimately creating a sound that is driven by emotionally and politically charged conflict while boasting youthful, warrior-like resilience. Both Lewis and Henry are of Ngati Pikiāo and Ngati Raukawa (Māori tribal) descent, and began their schooling at a kura kaupapa Māori (full immersion Māori language school) where singing waiata (songs) and performing haka were a daily routine. Also ingrained in their early education were stories of New Zealand history told to them by their father, who would also introduce them to the music of Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Anthrax, Ministry, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many others. Alien Weaponry was formed in 2010 by brothers Lewis (vocals & guitar) and Henry de Jong (drums), who were 8 and 10 years old at the time. The two would later move to the small town of Waipu in 2012, and went on to meet Ethan Trembath (bass) there in 2013. The de Jong brothers came up with the name Alien Weaponry after watching the film District 9. Alien Weaponry have also been nominated for "Best International Breakthrough Band" at the 2019 Heavy Music Awards (UK). The event takes place on August 22nd at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. Snow Burial recently recorded at the famed Electrical Audio in early 2018, crafting a split 7-inch with Iowa City’s doom maestros Aseethe (Thrill Jockey). The tapes and vinyl will be released courtesy of Hand Of Death Records. The band commented, "We are beyond excited to get back to Europe and hit the road with our good friends in Monolithian. The opportunity to be a part of Desertfest and spend two weeks getting loud across an ocean is amazing and humbling. Add to that the chance to bring with us a brand new split tape with Aseethe from Hand of Death Records and we're on top of the world. " Formed after a Shiner reunion show, Snow Burial established themselves in the American Midwest scene and released twin EPs Oxblood Siren (2013) and Oxblood Tides (2014). Through promoting the EPs and extensive regional touring, the band earned a reputation for their crushing sound and performances. Following positive reviews, tours, and airplay, the band released their inaugural LP Victory In Ruin in January 2016. Snow Burial continued touring the US and UK in 2017, featuring an opening slot for Scott Kelly and Sanford Parker’s project Mirrors for Psychic Warfare, with coverage from Metal Hammer Magazine and multiple blogs. In spring 2017, they proudly released a new song “Burn Down the Crown,” on the Unpresidented: DIY vs. Donald Trump benefit compilation. They originally created as a one man project by Martin "Spacosh" Perina. However, they are not a traditional Djent, their music have many ambient backgrounds, a frequent post-metal elements and a pure, progressive rock-sounding guitar parts. "Of Inner Sight" hosted by Norwegian saxophonist Jørgen Munkeby (Shining, ex Jaga Jazziest), the singer Barbora Mochowa, and the cellist Karel Žďárský. The mix and mastering was done by the proven Ecson Waldes from BIOTECH, the artwork of CD is the work of Lukáš Lancko 3D graphics (ISIS DESIGN STUDIO). Both have already collaborated with the band on the first album. The main concept behind it is sort of being telegraphed by the title alone – "Of Inner Sight" – something about our third eye. The record is trying to express the fight between the inner self and its view concerning different things. It explores the state of mind when you are trying to connect to yourself and communicate with your inner thoughts and processes. At the same time if one is opened enough, there are impulses of inspiration and he/she doesn’t even know where that came from. You can experience this while meditating, composing music (or anything that expresses your creativity) – when you focus on one thing only and do not think about anything else at all. There are some emotional and ambient passages, which needs to be heard more than once, so you can clearly hear all the layers of the sound. At the same time, guitar-heavy passages are having more impact and are much straighter to the point. Martin Spacosh expressed the process of creating new songs as; "I am the sole author of the BTP music as of yet. Well the process is as following: I record all the music in my home studio and create quite detailed drum patterns and layers in the MIDI format. Then I share this version of MIDI drums with our drummer Filip and he will edit the tracks from the drummer’s perspective. That means inserting some breaks, changing the dynamics, altering arrangements etc. Then he will send his version back to me. I will or will not accept any / all of those changes (there comes the iteration process into play) and it’s basically done. Filip will learn how to play the final parts and we can go live. The bass lines are basically staying the same throughout this process – that means they are exactly the same as on the first demo. Lots of demo stuff actually makes it to the final record. When it comes to tracks, it’s quite the same process as of other musicians – the tracks are born when I improvise or play with some melodic motives. When it captures my attention or inspire me in any way, it can grow up to be a basis for a track." You can find "Of Inner Sight" on BandCamp, Spotify, BandZone, and YouTube. Recorded with engineer Jamie Dodd (Orange Goblin) at Flesh & Bone Studio's, Hackney and tracked by Steve 'Geezer' Watkins at Woodworm studios (which has also been used by legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi), ‘Sentinels’ is a colossal sounding record, it’s ten tracks punching the listener with an oppressive towering monolithic sound that batters, but never dulls the senses. “This album is a natural progression from our previous releases,” explains guitarist Ryan Cole. “It has the Desert Storm sound, but has moved in a much harder, darker and heavier direction.” Today we get to hear the first rumblings from ‘Sentinels’ in the shape of ‘Too Far Gone’, a brutal, pounding powerhouse of a track that tackles the bleak subject of excessive binge drinking. “It’s the paradox of hard liquor being both the cause and the remedy of the sickness,” states vocalist Matt Ryan. “Self destruction and punishment of the body. It’s inspired by the tragic tales of Bon Scott and John Bonham, along with fictional characters Ben Sanderson of Leaving Las Vegas and to a lesser extent, Jim Lahey of Trailer Park Boys. It’s a miserable outcome as our song begins with alcoholism and ends in death.” Stream ‘Too Far Gone’ here: https://soundcloud.com/apf-records/desert-storm-too-far-gone/s-oelmn Pre-order ‘Sentinels’ here: http://apfrecords.bigcartel.com/ In addition to the album’s release, the band will be hitting the road hard throughout February, March and beyond in the UK and Europe.
