The world needs heroes now more than ever. In the shape of Montreal’s larger-than-life metal warriors Valfreya, it has them! And in their striking vocalist Crook, they have their own Valkyrie!. In 2009, vocalist Crook wanted to play something akin to folk metal, but even more aggressive and fast paced. Combining Valhalla and the Norse goddess Freya, the band has been creating music and lyrics to revolve around stories inspired by Norse mythology. Orchestral and death metal with a hint of folk music, the prolific Valfreya have released two well-received EP's (‘First Chronicles’ and ‘Acoustic Chronicles’), an impressive 2012 debut album entitled ‘Path To Eternity’ via Maple Metal Records and have just unleashed their second ‘Promised Land’ independently on January 13, 2017. “The album is a journey through a lot of emotions and situations, giving life to a host of varied songs, each with a different sound and personality. The story behind the album is about Eric The Red discovering America and how he defies the Gods, but pays a hefty price for that defiance. ” says Valfreya about the release. “It’s a step-up in sound quality and has more intricate guitar parts and better-written music that with every listen you can discover parts you hadn’t noticed before. On top of that we have an original sound and songs! We want to give more to people that enjoy good riffs!” Just as you hear on record, Valfreya promises the fans a unique live experience. What you hear on the album is what you get on stage. All vocals, whether clean or screams, are done by the band members both in studio and live. They dress in a fantasy-like Viking fashion to go with their story-telling, which gives an interesting visual aspect, while delivering the instrument-playing with precision. Valfreya has shared the stage with Arkona, Dark Tranquility, Nekrogoblikon, Necronomicon, Koorpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Tyr and Insomnium. ‘Promised Land’ is now streaming in full at the following links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QX2M2deDyb8 https://valfreya.bandcamp.com Available on iTunes, CD Baby, Bandcamp and all online major retailers. "LandawarijaR" will contain seven tracks, all of which bear the hallmarks of Helheim's traditional Norse heritage. A Heritage of which they are rightly proud and to which they have remained true, eschewing the temptation to turn themselves into the Viking parodies that so many bands have espoused. With "LandawarijaR" Helheim use their lyrics to express the need to include the Norse Heritage into modern life by emphasising the importance, mystery and never-changing wonder of the Runes. Just as Helheim's "RaunijaR" followed in the same vein as its predecessor "Asgards Fall", "LandawarijaR" continues where "Heidindomr" ended. All four albums incorporate the use of Timpani and Horns, and the new album also has a number of artists performing guest vocals including William Hut, Morten Egeland (Narrowhead), Pehr Skjoldhammer (Alfahanne), Bjornar E Nilsen (Vulture Industries, Black Hole Generator) and Ottorpedo. With music by by H'grimnir and V'gandr, lyrics by V'gandr and artwork by H'grimnir, "LandawarijaR" was recorded at the Conclave and Earshot Studios in Bergen, and produced by Bjornar E. Nilsen (Vulture Industries, Black Hole Generator) and mastered by Herbrand Larsen (Enslaved). Helheim recently announced that two songs from the album were being turned into videos by Guilherme Henriques, who is both producing and directing the videos. 'Ymr' and 'Baklengs mot intet' are the songs that been chosen because, as the band explained, they are "neatly intertwined into a dualism which Guillherme will portray". The videos are expected to be debuted in the run-up to the release of "LandawarijaR". A series of stills from the video shoot by the photographer Mathis Backe of Yggdrasil Photo (http://yggdrasilphoto.net ), and featuring Helheim's line-up of Vgandr on bass and vocals, Hgrimnir on rhythm guitar and vocals, Noralf on rhythm and lead guitar and Hrymr on drums and programming , were recently published, and can be seen on Helheim's Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/helheimnorway http://www.helheim.com http://www.facebook.com/helheimnorway www.darkessencerecords.no http://www.facebook.com/darkessencerecords Art Gates Records are proud to announce Spanish Viking Death Metal outfit Yggdrassil as the new artist to be included in our international roster. Born in the city of Zaragoza in 2013, this brutal five-pieced combo blends a mixture of Death Metal and Viking influences, their lyrics speak about mythology and fierce battles. In words of the band: "The signing with Art Gates Records consists in a very important step for us to start sharing stages with well known bands and release our music to the entire planet". After the release of their first EP "One step closer to Valhalla" (2015) Yggdrassil performed through the entire country to present this album, sharing stage with well known acts such as Drakum, Incursed, Pimeä Metsä, Northland or the swedish Thyrfring. Formed in the 90s, but split up until 2008 when guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist rediscovered some old tapes. With modern technology, the first Entrails demo took shape. After releasing another demo in 2009 the band recorded and released their debut album 'Tales From The Morgue' in 2010. Just a year later 'The Tomb Awaits' was released, an album that gained worldwide attention and was considered by many as the best death metal album of 2011! Jimmy Lundqvist comments on the deal with Metal Blade: "Being on Metal Blade has been a dream since Slayer's Hell Awaits came out and given the chance to be there as well is just pure magic! It is with honourable excitement that we have signed to Metal Blade!" Currently the band are finalising the songwriting process for their third studio album to be recorded during the summer."Our upcoming third opus is filled with old-school and rotten bastards of songs. Groovy and heavy like a pile of flesh that will be like a punch in your face. To us it's the perfect step from The Tomb Awaits album…beware!" BAND LINE-UP Joakim Svensson - vocals/bass Jimmy Lundqvist ˆ guitar Mathias Nilsson ˆ guitar Adde Mitroulis - drums http://www.facebook.com/Entrails666 http://www.myspace.com/entrailsreborn Swedish Viking Metallers King Of Asgard have finished recording their second album '…to North' at Sonic Train Studios with engineer Andy LaRocque (KING DIAMOND) at the helm. The album will be released July 27th / 30th via Metal Blade Records.
The band has said that: "First out is female vocalist Heléne Blad whom did a guest appearance on "Fi'mbulvintr" as well. This time around she's present on the album opener, "The Nine Worlds Burn", doing an epic folk inspired vocal part. She's been a longtime friend of the band and is a professionally schooled folk singer et cetera. She was also once, for a short while, the keyboardist of the KING OF ASGARD predecessor Mithotyn. The second appearance on "…to North" presents the extremely talented guitarist Jimmy Hedlund. Yet another friend known from bands such as Falconer and Supreme Majesty. He shreds two guitar solos on the song "Gap of Ginnungs". Least say, amazing stuff and truly breathtaking!" Bassist Jonas Albrektsson shares views on the recording process and what to expect from '…To North': "The "…To North" master just arrived and it sounds astonishing! Andy LaRocque made a great job on the production and the mastering along with Olof Berggren. It's upright and powerful. We feel very proud of what we achieved on this recording and merely the sound of it makes it a worthy follow-up to the firstborn "Fi'mbulvintr". Songs and sounds came out much as of what we planned, with power and a great variety. "…To North" takes off pretty much where "Fi'mbulvintr" left off so to say, with a natural development, more varied songs and structures. It's a development of our sound which will be recognized by old fans as well as bring some new ones to the horde. This time around I've been more involved in the writing process along with Karl, which kind of shines through, giving the songs a wider perspective. Expect some very strong songs on "…To North", where epic meets with brutality! The lyrical theme this time is basically in the same vein but has different twists. Not as obvious as before. "…To North" will make The Nine Worlds Burn… and Varberg was just left behind." Check out the first video trailer for the album here. Valfreya's debut album ‘Path To Eternity’ will be released in North America on May 22nd via Maple Metal Records. The official worldwide release date will be on July 4th. Formed in February 2009, Valfreya is a sextet from Montreal, Canada. The vocalist, Crook, has a vocal range of symphonic clean vocals to that of guttural growls. Crook is the main composer of ‘Path to Eternity’ along with key contributions from guitarist Graz’zt, keyboardist Shark, and all the band members. Influenced by the likes of Moonsorrow, Equilibrium, Arkona and Wintersun, the band portrays a more aggressive and energetic take on the folk metal genre. ‘Path to Eternity’ was produced by the band, and was recorded, mixed and mastered in the Autumn 2011 at Silver Wings Studio in Montreal, Canada. Thus, Bookaking Productions in Montreal have produced an Epic Movie Battles Montage to highlight Valfreya’s song “Confront Immensity” which is viewable here.
