Appalling Ascension, the tumultuous debut album by Portuguese death metal sect The Ominous Circle, will see a cooperative release through Osmose Productions and 20 Buck Spin this Friday, January 27th. On the verge of its public infiltration, the entire album has been unleashed through an exclusive stream hosted by Noisey. With the early stream, Noisey offers of the album, "Throughout its eight tracks, Appalling Ascension devotes its time to roiling riffs, apocalyptic percussion, an impossibly heavy low end, and echoing growls-classic modern dark death metal, really, with perhaps even more of a ghoulish doom edge and some truly nasty guitar work. Unlike many of its cave-dwelling peers, the band obviously pours real effort in crafting songs, not just song fragments sandwiched between swaths of spooky atmosphere..." The first onstage ceremonies for The Ominous Circle have been initiated, the band having made their live debut in November 2016, with more live actions being slated for 2017. Triaxis are proud to reveal their new vocalist to be the incredible Greek musician and songwriter Angel Wolf-Black. Those with a keen interest in European metal will know Angel from her own solo work, or with bands such as ‘Seduce The Heaven’, ‘Bare Infinity’, featuring in ‘Vivaldi Metal Project’ or working with female metal vocalist community ‘Eve’s Apple’. Having recently moved from Greece to study music in Southampton, UK, this is a perfect time for Angel to bring her unique tones to mix with a typically British classic metal sound, forging something exciting for Triaxis fans old and new to enjoy. Angel comments: “Over the last couple of months I have loved learning and rehearsing the Triaxis material and I am so excited to perform it live! I hope that the fans will share in my excitement and enthusiasm for the future. We have already begun to write for our next release so they shouldn’t have long to wait!” Angel joins Glyn Williams and Matt Chambers (guitars), Becky Baldwin (Bass) and Gareth Arlett (drums), to work together rehearsing for upcoming shows and writing the band’s fourth album. Becky comments on the recent changes and the future of the band: “We are very happy to welcome Angel on board, it was pure good fortune that such a perfect fit for the band had just moved to England when we had started advertising for a singer. We would also like to thank the Triaxis vocalist of 10 years, Krissie Kirby, for all her work with the band. When she first spoke about leaving the band we were of course feeling low and uneasy. But now we are honoured to have Krissie’s blessing in continuing the band in it’s new chapter with Angel at the helm. There is still an exciting future ahead for Triaxis!" In advance of its release today No Clean Singing is streaming the infernal, eight-track offering in full noting:- "the obliterating effects of Beast Incarnate will be the big draw for most fans. It's the kind of music that fuels metaphorical rhetoric: Most of the time it's a rocket ride through a mechanized slaughterhouse, in an active war zone, during an earthquake. This is what Beheaded do. And they do it very well, with dedication, veteran skill, and self-assurance. If you enjoy death metal that rushes at your head with megawatt energy, dizzying percussive pummelling, dark pulsating melodies, and an insatiable blood lust, this is your fix." Crime are a duo hailing from Santiago, Chile. Grounded in all the classics, they explode with a classic early heavy metal sound that's indebted as equally to rock 'n' roll like Rose Tattoo and Motörhead as they are by '80s punk. Across the three songs comprising their First Crime, Crime exude both grit and charm, energy and finesse, youthful exuberance and wizened erudition. Verily, it's like a long-lost transmission from the mid '80s, from the corners of the earth where pure heavy metal was a revolutionary act - and yet, it's been thawed out in the present. Fittingly, Crime's lyrics are mainly inspired by the risks in the city when night falls, with the intention of returning some mystery, rawness, and danger to heavy metal. "This demo/EP of three tracks is our first attempt to achieve all of these ideas," state the band. "We will soon start working on our first LP, to be titled Second Crime, with the same lineup, which will follow the same lines musically and lyrically." In the meantime, get caught listening to First Crime! And right now, it can be streamed in its entirety at Shadow Kingdom's Bandcamp HERE. The track hails from the band's LONG-awaited debut album, Goddamn the Sun, set for international release on March 3rd via Iron Bonehead Productions. Hear Disharmony's "The Gates of Elthon" in its entirety exclusively HERE. Disharmony are an often-overlooked entry in the history of Greek black metal. Formed in 1991 but broken up by '95, the band would record three demos and a cult EP on the legendary Molon Lave label. Although Disharmony's sound early on slotted well into the classic Hellenic BM paradigm - militant pulse, mystical atmosphere, deep roots in traditional metal - they largely took a more unorthodox approach, touching upon Beheritian weirdness and ritualistic soundscape, but always with a thoroughly occult aura. Longtime fans of the band, Iron Bonehead collected Disharmony's old discography together under the title Vade Retro Satana and released it on CD and double-LP formats in 2016, reintroducing the band to old fans as well as younger generations. But, now 2017 dawns and Disharmony have been resurrected, and their long-promised debut album has arrived in the form of Goddamn the Sun. Immediately, it is clear that this is a work of ancient Hellenic darkness; those immediately recognizable fundamentals are firmly in place, and it is literally like a blast from the past - specifically for pioneering Greek black metal, the watershed year of 1993. And yet, so many years and a couple decades later, there is a new and strikingly refreshing sense of refinement to Disharmony on Goddamn the Sun. Long gone the unorthodox accoutrements may be, but what takes their stead is a stout 'n' surging iteration of Hellenic classicism, triumphant and otherworldly in equal measure, and still emitting a sulphurous sensation of aeons-old occultism. Even the cover art to Goddamn the Sun itself suggests an eldritch era, sometimes forgotten but never fully dead. Finally, seemingly a lifetime in the making, Disharmony have stepped forward to ascend the throne of this rich, timeless pantheon. The next step can be taken exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine. The first step can be taken at Iron Bonehead's Soundcloud with the track "Elochim" exclusively HERE. |
