Icelandic Black Metallers Nyrst reveal album details, new video & single

22/2/2020

Picture

It is fitting that Black Metallers Nyrst have chosen the title track to introduce their debut full-length album "Orsök", because it is a track whose sound illustrates to perfection an album that is filled with incredibly cold, stark, and barren soundscapes, and whose lyrics come straight from old horror literature and are laced with cosmic undertones.

The band's grim and icy Icelandic heritage, is where Nyrst draws its inspiration, and the band's new video for the track "Orsök", illustrates this to perfection. The video, by Daníel Puskás of Valhallartworks can be seen at https://youtu.be/m4oZcDqB1i8

Commenting on the video, the band had this to say:

"Nyrst are proud to premiere the music video for "Orsök", our first single and the title track from our upcoming album. We had a very specific vision in mind to convey the harsh and barren landscape of our country, which was our main inspiration when we wrote the album. There is something about the desolate wastes of the highland that gives you a sense of hopelessness, but also this immense calm, a perfect symbiotic relationship that made us find a very accurate atmosphere and sound which made all this possible.

The lyrics of Orsök tell of a lone wanderer and his journey across the frozen wasteland, where he is forced by the Gods to sacrifice his young daughter to host a Goddess or a cosmic entity, thereby bringing doom upon life. Departing with the baby, absolute loneliness and grief become his companions, following him to the end of his journey.

In his final moments, conceding to the spirits, he realizes his mistake and embraces the void."

The single "Orsök" is available to stream or download from https://darkessencerecords.fanlink.to/Orsok

Set for release of Dark Essence Records on the 24th April, and with artwork by Moonrot and additional artwork by Skadvaldur, track listing for "Orsök" is as follows:

  2. Orsök
  3. Nástirni

"Orsök" will be released in CD, Vinyl and Digital formats and is now available to pre-order from the following:

With a line-up that today is comprised of Snæbjörn on vocals, Eysteinn and Davíð on guitars, Egill on bass, and Sveinbjörn on drums, Nyrst was formed in the winter of 2013. The band's first demo was released in 2018 and garnered praise for the band's use of diverse vocals and chilling atmosphere, whilst Nyrst's mystic and haunting stage performances have gained them respect as a live band in the metal scene of their native Iceland.

Nyrst's next live appearance will be on Saturday 29th  February at the by:Larm Festival, in Oslo, Norway, followed by the 14th March at the Hard Rock Cafe in Reykjavik, and the 18th April at Gaukurinn, also in Reykjavik.

ARIA-certified Australian metalcore trailblazers The Amity Affliction have just dropped the video for "Forever." Watch it here.

The song appears on the band's album Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them which is out today and is the band’s Pure Noise Records debut.

"'Forever' is a song about the dueling internal narrative while in the depths of a depressive episode," says singer Joel Birch. "On the one hand, love and support, on the other hand, thoughts of suicide, while also grappling with the follow on effect it would have. I made a promise to myself to make it to my son’s eighteenth birthday when he was three, and I intend to keep it. Hopefully by then I will have figured out how to properly cope with what is likely a lifelong battle with bipolar II."

The Amity Affliction — Joel Birch [vocals], Ahren Stringer [vocals, bass], Dan Brown [lead guitar], and Jon Longobardi [drums] — previously released the video for  "Soak Me In Bleach." Watch it here. The band also premiered the new song "Catatonia" over at Loudwire. Listen here. Prior to that, the band roared out of the gates with "All My Friends Are Dead."

"This album is a result of our re-found love for heavy music," The Amity Affliction said upon announcing the record. "We wanted to make a heavier album to back up our most recent releases to let our fans know that we understand what the majority want to hear from us. We have experimented creatively over the years and are now able to apply what we’ve learnt to what we consider the perfect blend of Amity new and old."

Since emerging in 2008 on the debut Severed Ties, The Amity Affliction have served up two ARIA gold-certified albums, Youngbloods [2010] and Chasing Ghosts [2012], and earned a platinum certification from ARIA for the seminal Let the Ocean Take Me [2014]. This Could Be Heartbreak [2016] marked the band's second consecutive Top 30 debut on the Billboard Top 200, while Misery [2018] elevated them to new critical heights with praise from Medium, Alternative Press, The Noise, and more. To date, the group's total stream tally has surpassed 200 million and counting. Meanwhile, The Amity Affliction sold out countless headline shows and toured alongside many genre heavyweights. During 2019, the musicians returned to Beltsville, MD to record their Pure Noise Records debut, Everyone Loves You… Once You Leave Them, alongside Misery producer Matt Squire.

All this is topped off by singer Darren Beadman's striking vocal techniques and unique tone, which have been likened to Warrel Dane, Sebastian Bach and Rob Halford.

Hungarian Symphonic Metallers Meteora premiere new song and music video “Memento Mori”

22/2/2020

Picture

Symphonic metal band Meteora is going to release their second album “Tragedy Of Delusion” as the bonus CD of the March edition of HammerWorld Magazine (Hungary), and will be distributed separately starting next month. The record will also be available for online streaming on several platforms (Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Apple Music, Google Play Music and Amazon Music). Following the success of last year’s new song “My Reality”, Meteora are now back with another new track and music video, “Memento Mori” that you can see on the link below.

Meteora // Apple Music: music.apple.com/hu/album/tragedy-of-delusion/1498717725?l=hu

Keyboardist Atilla Király about Memento Mori:

“Memento Mori is one of the catchiest songs of the new album. It’s among the last ones that I wrote, the previous few pieces turned out to be kinda long and complex so Noémi asked to do something more simple to chill a bit. But since we didn’t want to overcomplicate the structure this time it needed something extra to fit in with the rest of the album. That is when we made the decision to hire professional singers for the choir parts of the record, so that with the three vocalists we have in the band already we could have a bigger sound. With the organ at the beginning – which sets the mood – and this big choir sound it really gained the feeling of a Meteora song. We played this a few times live already, and the crowd seemed to be enthusiastic to memento mori with us during the choirs. :)”

“The title is a common phrase, ’remember death’, or in an other translation ’remember that you will die as well (because you are just a human after all)’. In the lyrics we visit the different philosophical aspects of death during the ages from the Roman Empire up until today. As soon as we finished the song we knew this was one that we wanted to shoot a video for. With the lyrics centered around death we didn’t want to push the video into total lethargy, so we tweaked the meaning of the phrase a bit: no king rules forever, everyone is defeated once. A game of football, poker or something like that would have been too average though. While we were thinking about the details we were approached by Deltavision with their interest in working together, and since Noémi and me are huge fans of one of their card games the solution just presented itself. We wanted to make it a joke, because if we took this setup seriously the end product would most likely have been funny in a bad way… :D We had a lot of laughs during the shooting and while putting the video together, so hope we can at least make people smile just a bit as well!”
- Atilla added.

11. Numb (Linkin Park cover) (Bonus Track)

Meteora was originally formed in 2010, but became more busy and active since the release of their 2017 debut album, “Our Paradise”. Their music is presented in a “beauty and the beast” style regarding the vocals, the melodic voice of the front-lady Noémi Holló is accompanied by the growls and screams of bass guitarist Máté Fülöp. Lately keyboardist / main songwriter Atilla Király has also joined them behind the microphone, so “Tragedy Of Delusion” is going to feature clean male vocals as well in some of the songs. You can also check out another song off their second album, “My Reality” below.

Dutch Horror Metal purveyors Carach Angren unveil artwork and track-list of 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus'

The Dutch masters of horror Carach Angren are back with their 6(66)th full length 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus'! The new monster will be released on May 29, 2020 via Season of Mist. A first glimpse of music can be found in a teaser here!

Carach Angren comment:-

"We are very proud to announce the release of our upcoming sixth album, 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus'. On this album we resurrect the ghost of the infamous Johann Conrad Dippel and tell his story in a whirlwind of both horrible facts and fiction. Musically, there will be everything you have come to expect from us, taken to a whole new cinematic level. Get a taste of what is coming in the teaser below and prepare yourselves for the unearthing of our most ambitious album to date!"

Total playing time: 50:41

Carach Angren are furthermore releasing the cover artwork, which is created by Stefan Heilemann, and track list of 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus'. Both can be be viewed above.

The Dutch masters of horror are back with their most flamboyant album so far. On 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus', CARACH ANGREN resurrect the gruesome story of troubled soul ‘Conrad Dippel’; the inspiration of Mary Shelly’s novel 'Frankenstein'.

CARACH ANGREN have extended all the sonic colours on their established palette to dazzling effect. Their trademark whipping guitars are weaving harsh melodies and sinister soundscapes, which are beautifully contrasted by opulent keyboards and majestic orchestrations. That Till Lindemann (RAMMSTEIN) and Peter Tägtgren (PAIN) have called upon the composition talent of Clemens "Ardek" Wijers is a telling sign of his outstanding mastery of the craft. Another signatory counterpoint is provided by Seregor's fierce rasping and shrieking vocals. Adding to the impact, Namtar has become a relentless driving force with his hart hitting yet intricate drumming. Each track on this album is a highlight on its own, while combined 'Franckensteina Strataemontanus ' simply shines.

CARACH ANGREN set out to tell ghost-stories with a set of paranormal cases recorded on the demo 'The Chase Vault Tragedy' (2004). This was soon followed by the official release of the 'Ethereal Veiled Existence' EP (2005) as a prelude to the haunting 'Lammendam' (2008). The Dutch had a clear vision of combining a dark baroque style of metal with horror based lyrical concepts. Their second full-length 'Death Came through a Phantom Ship' (2010) witnessed the band setting sail to bring their eccentric and capturing live performances to audiences and festivals all over Europe. In the wake of third album 'Where the Corpses Sink Forever' (2012), the haunting had reached the Americas and started to spread rapidly. This record added a serious side to the lyrics of CARACH ANGREN. While firmly remaining in the horror genre, their tales revolve around the evils of war. This mature streak was taken a step further with the fourth full-length 'This Is No Fairytale', which is on the surface a darker variation of the "Hansel and Gretel" story from the Brothers Grimm collection, but also deals with the too real topic of child abuse in a dysfunctional family. With ‘Dance And Laugh Amongst The Rotten’ (2017), the band returned to pure story telling with episodes that are centred on a girl playing a little too long with her Ouija board.

Now, Carach Angren return with the monster ‘Franckensteina Strataemontanus’, where the Dutch have pushed their unashamedly theatrical style to a new intense height. You do not believe us yet? Press play and have your soul transferred with this new elixir of life!

Danish Viking Metallers Vanir release new EP in April

20/2/2020

Picture

On April 17th Danish Viking Metallers Vanir release "10 Years Of Mead And Metal", celebrating a decade of raw Danish Viking power!

Ten years ago in Roskilde Denmark a group of metalheads came together to play some Viking folk metal. It later evolved into Vanir. A lot has happened since then. Both when it comes the band and the band's visual and musical soundscape. While in the process of working on their 6th album, they thought it was important to mark their 10th year of raiding with Vanir!

And to mark this occasion, they have re-recorded three songs from their debut album, "Særimners kød". The goal of the EP is to capture the essence of Vanir's roots and mix them with the sound of what they aim at today as a band. With the heavier sounding Viking metal that Vanir represents today, but with respect for the folk metal roots they came from.

2. Rejsen til Udgårdsloke
3. Gildet
4. Kringsat Av Fiender
5. Særimners Kød (ENG)

To top it all Vanir have recorded a cover from the Danish minstrel Kim Larsen with the lyrics from the poem of Nordahl Grieg - "Kringsatt av fiender". This poem means a lot too many people and stands for unity in a world that tends to get more and more fragmented.

The critically acclaimed latest album by Vanir, "Allfather", was released last year.

Martin Holmsgaard - vocals
Phillip Kaaber - rhythm guitars
Kirk Backarach - lead guitars
Lars Bundvad - bass
Daniel ‘Luske’ Kronskov - drums
Stefan Dujardin - keys

“Album is melodic, versatile, interesting, catchy and there´s more female singing than
before since Anna joined the band. New solo guitarist Toni also joined the band. After some setbacks the band is planning lots of gigs and will be stronger than ever.

Many different elements can be heard. Orchestral sounds, punk, industrial, black metal and surprising stuff. That´s what Star Insight is all about. It´s sad, happy and surprising at the same time."
