Second To Sun is a metal band from Saint Petersburg, Russia, founded in 2012 by its guitarist Vladimir Lehtinen. Second To Sun concentrate on the musical and creative aspect more and use visual elements on every song (artwork, lyrics, behind the song infos etc.) to give more depth and back story to the music. The band's music contains a blend of metal genres: on the one hand, it has the many rhythmic elements of groove metal; on the other -hand, it continues the legacy of such classic Scandinavian black metal bands as Emperor, Mayhem, and Dakthrone.

Such diverse musical roots of the band protrude from Vladimir Lehtinen's songwriting, Gleb Sysoev's soul-crushing vocals and Fedor Borovsky's groovy drum lines. The band releases two versions of each album - the vocal and the instrumental one. Each individual instrumental composition is accompanied by unique artwork and a hefty description of the story the composition tells, which provides a deeper insight into the music, as well as the band's inspiration and creative process. Second To Sun has released released two albums - The First Chapter and The Black, and is now getting ready to release third album The Walk.

France's Witchthroat Serpent stream new album via "Decibel" magazine's website

French doomlords Witchthroat Serpent stream the entirety of their highly anticipated third album, Swallow the Venom, at Decibel magazine's website. Set for international release on November 23rd via Svart Records, hear Witchthroat Serpent's Swallow the Venom in its entirety exclusively HERE.

Hailing from Toulouse, Witchthroat Serpent have dabbled in unnatural psychedelia and the black arts for some time now, producing fine pieces of vinyl such as the critically acclaimed slab of ultra-doom Sang-Dragon in 2016. This November, the group are returning with venom, as the serpentine new album Swallow The Venom hits turntables across the riff-worshiping world.

From the pagan chants of "Feu Sacré" to the aggressive trance of "Might of the Unfailing Source," Witchthroat Serpent have expanded their weaponry and truly mastered their art. Split into eight consciousness-expanding tracks, Swallow The Venom presents a dangerous expedition into the nether-regions of esoteric doom metal, filled with strange mind-altering plants, low frequencies, and rites of strange cults. Armed with the fire of Fallen Angel, Witchthroat Serpent are a force to be reckoned with.

Latvian Pagan Metal vets Skyforger release 'Nothing Is Forgotten' video; dedicates it to the centenary of Latvian independence

21/11/2018

Latvian heavy metal band Skyforger have released a brand new video for their track Nothing Is Forgotten from their latest 2015 album Old Prussia, dedicating it to the 100th anniversary since the independence of their Latvian homeland.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD04RxYsM54

Kristīne Neikena, who directed the video, says that main idea is there to remind that when it comes to Latvian history, “nothing is forgotten”, including the hardships and struggles of the Latvian people throughout the years.

The video tells the story through the eyes of a young woman played by Maija Arvena, a rising Latvian film star. Her character's journey is an emotional and symbolic account of the pivotal moments in the history of a Latvian nation, its birth, hopes, rise, fall and, ultimately, rebirth and strength while national landmarks, nature and events feature in the background.

Peter Kvetjovskis, Skyforger's vocalist, adds:

“As we celebrate the centenary of Latvia's independence today on 18th November, we want to dedicate this video as an epitaph of sorts to all those whose lives were broken by all the wars and conflicts that have befallen our land, and to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, so that future generations could live happily as a free and independent nation. The thing is, history tends to remember only the key figures, including the villains and monsters, while the lives of hundreds of thousands of “ordinary” folks slowly disappear and vanish from the nation's memory… Well, our song is about exactly these people and in their memory!”

The video is directed by Kristīne NEIKENA, cameras by Mārtiņš EGLĪTIS and Tomass BEĶERIS, art direction by Elza BUKUMA, edited by Mārtiņš LAZDĀNS.

Australia's Horrisonous set release date for Memento Mori debut; reveal first track

21/11/2018

Picture

In their endless quest to push and support current underground acts that perpetuate the odor of vintage death metal, on January 21st, 2019, Memento Mori is proud to present Horrisonous' striking debut album, A Culinary Cacophony.

Hailing from Sydney, Australia, Horrisonous formed in late 2015 and comprise a handful of hardened members of the local underground scene, including past or current members of such acts as Temple Nightside, Backyard Mortuary, The Slow Death, Illimitable Dolor, and Pestilential Shadows among others. Not surprisingly, Horrisonous deliver aural slime, decay, and misery by means of the ageless brand of death metal that's equally ponderous, crushing, and fervent, enhanced with slithering tempos and influenced by the likes of Bolt Thrower, Asphyx, Autopsy, Death, Celtic Frost, Carcass, Dismember, and Incantation. The proved it on their debut EP, The Plague Doctors, in 2016 and they proved it with the Asphyx and Celtic Frost covers comprising the follow-up The Plague Doctors B-sides EP two years later, and they fully prove it with their debut full-length, A Culinary Cacophony.

A cursory glance at some of the album's song titles (quickly: "Crispy Chunks of the Obese," "Nourishment Through Excrement," "Number of the Feast") and one could potentially assume Horrisonous are a hokey gore band. While their noses are no doubt in tune with life's foulest recesses, Horrisonous are deadly serious about their juggernauting death metal. Requisitely filthy as any Memento Mori release, A Culinary Cacophony digs deeply into the doom and serves up serious helpings of up-tempo gallop and blast. It's a world-eating sound that evokes a creepiness quite at odds with such otherwise tongue-in-cheek titles, but only Horrisonous know the methods to their madness...

Brazenly adorned with garishly gruesome cover art courtesy of Rod Scott, Horrisonous offer a symphony of sickness with A Culinary Cacophony! Begin feasting on the new track "Kuru Worship" HERE at Memento Mori's official YouTube channel.

French Black Metallers Croc Noir set release date for Wolfspell debut

21/11/2018

Wolfspell Records have set December 21st as the international release date for Croc Noir's highly striking debut album, Mort.

Hailing from France, Croc Noir formed in 2016 but quickly set to work on their first recordings. An EP followed that year, with another a year later. In 2018 came a new demo and also a split with French comrades Au-Delà. With such feverish devotion and inspiration, it's no surprise that the band's debut album, Mort, is as highly developed as it is. Strictly and staunchly black metal, Croc Noir reverently revel in their homeland's rich history in the blackest arts. Raw yet no less robust, there's a melancholy coursing through Mort that's uniquely underpinned by an understated triumph. As such, this intoxicating swirl of grim delirium nods to distinguished French forebears like Sacrificia Mortuorum, Sombre Chemin, and later Winter Funeral but with a nostalgic touch poignantly conjured through their occasional usage of accordion.

Croc Noir's Mort will be released on digipak CD. In the meantime, hear the new tracks "Tapis Dans L'ombre" and "Égérie Funeste" HERE at Wolfspell Records' Bandcamp, where the album can also be pre-ordered.

Iranian Alternative Metallers Tarantist release new single "Ekhtelas"

20/11/2018

Picture

Hailing from Tehran, Iran, alternative rockers Tarantist have released a brand new single which is
taken off from the band's upcoming album. Entitled "Ekhtelas", the single is available on all digital music platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, etc.

You can listen to "Ekhtelas" at this location: https://open.spotify.com/album/2JEslGM3KMBh03uyb9pQnT

Founded in Iran, Tarantist had to perform secretly-but-loudly, something which has proven to be difficult, but after sparking a following via word of mouth in the underground, the band soon began to garner international recognition. Within just a few years, international media correspondents inspired by their story (including BBC, SKY, CNN, NPR, Metal Hammer and Kerrang) started visiting Tehran to meet and talk with Tarantist. These news reports and articles aided Tarantist in cultivating a worldwide following – motivating the band to relocate to the United States Los Angeles in 2008. However, they quickly found that they weren’t able to fully escape the pressures they faced back home, stemming from “not being Muslim enough”.

Once they arrived in the United States, they experienced opposite – uncomfortable stereotypes and assumptions directed at them simply based on their culture and/or how they looked – all the while never practising religion in the first place. Determined, Tarantist didn’t let this slow them down. After growing some roots in North America, the band was invited to play several festivals like SXSW, CMJ, Canadian Music Week and Intergalactic Fest. Tarantist quickly added to their touring repertoire, performing on the same stages as Metallica, Motörhead, Stone Temple Pilots, Muse, Cheap Trick, Voivod, Sum 41, My Ruin, Ben Harper and many more.

Finnish Melodic death thrashers Rifftera to release second album in January; first single out now

Finnish melodic death thrashers Rifftera will release their new album 'Across the Acheron' on January 18th 2019 via Inverse Records. The album follows band's debut, Pitch Black, which was released on 2015.

Rifftera's guitarist and harsh vocalist Janne Hietala comments:-

"It took a lot longer than expected, but now Across the Acheron is finally ready to be released. The aim was basically to take steps forward from our debut in every aspect and we are really happy with the result. In my honest and not at all biased opinion I think that clear improvement was achieved musically, lyrically and production-wise."

Hietala adds:-

"When it comes to comparing the music between Across the Acheron and Pitch Black, I would say that our expression has reached new levels on both ends of the spectrum; some parts on the new album are more brutal than anything that what we had on Pitch Black and then again some songs are more straight forward and melodic than before. Overall it could be described that the building blocks are the same but writing and performing skills have evolved."

Band encountered one lineup change after the previous release, or actually a lineup addition, since the drums of the first album were played by a session drummer: "This is the first appearance of our new drummer Ville Härkönen and you'll hear that he sure like's to keep himself busy behind the kit."

German Industrial veterans Oomph! unveil 'Ritual' album details

Reinvention and continuity – Oomph! have been synonymous with self-renewal, pioneer spirit and carefree creativity for almost three decades. Gold and platinum awards, international top chart entries and their number #1 hit single "Augen Auf!" speak for themselves! Hardly a band has ever influenced the German musical scene so deeply and still keeps it heavily fascinated!

The trio around CRAP, DERO and FLUX is now ready to release its thirteenth album Ritual. "Our most aggressive, heaviest and darkest album in a while“, singer Dero states truthfully. After the signing with Napalm Records earlier this year, it's time to unveil all album details of their forthcoming Ritual.

The band states on Ritual:

"We are very happy to introduce you to our new album "Ritual" today! This album contains 100% Oomph!: We wrote, produced and mixed everything in our own recording studio! We used our time in between two tours to get some fresh and very inspiring impact of the recent live experiences and composed the majority of the songs in jam sessions all together. That probably explains why the songs on Ritual are hard, riff-heavy and dark. The album Artwork brilliantly supports the mystical character of our songs and lyrics and leaves plenty of scope for own interpretations."

Get a first appetizer of Ritual with the teaser of the upcoming single "Kein Liebeslied" HERE:
