Birmingham's doom frontrunners Alunah return with a consuming fifth album "Violet Hour" this October 11th on Heavy Psych Sounds, streaming in full exclusively via Metal Insider.
This new album sees the energy of Alunah's dark, doom-tinged hard rock being cranked up with the arrival of guitarist Dean Ashton (Diamond Head) alongside the lush vocals of Siân Greenaway and rhythmic foundation of Dan Burchmore and Jake Mason. Recorded at the historic Welsh Foel Studio and produced by Chris Fielding (Conan, Electric Wizard, Primordial), these eight tracks display a searing combination of melodies, riffs and focused writing.

Riding the momentum of the past several years, spellbinding San Francisco doom trio Brume are preparing to release their new album, Rabbits, coming November 22nd from Magnetic Eye Records. Their first for the label, it follows the band's critically-acclaimed Donkey and Rooster releases, as well as their split with Seattle's Witch Ripper earlier this year, indicating that BRUME are pushing forward as fast as their creativity allows.
Sabbathian sensibility is a must for any band worth their weight in doom, but when combined with a strong penchant for acts like Portishead and Bjork, Brume are a graceful leader among the skull-crushing pack.
In 2014, they made their mark with debut EP Donkey, a sorrowful slow-burner drenched in reverb and wrought with patient mourning. Rooster saw them plunge deeper into the study of duality between harsh distortion and the soaring refrains of frontwoman Susie McMullan’s stunning vocals. “Our music is non-fiction; a time stamped truth,” she said, but the band’s creative drive contains a timelessness not quickly forgotten among the sea of contenders in doom metal.
Growth is no stranger to the band, as noted by The Ripple Effect, who in 2018 named Rooster Album of the Year, calling it “plainly and simply a giant leap forward."
New album Rabbits continues this theme, exposing a tight-knit crew at their most creatively expansive who’ve erected a monumental piece to capture and soothe the mind during this tumultuous cultural era. Tracks like “Lament” showcase a masterful grasp on tension-building and release; it’s a hypnotic lullaby and explosion in one, stretched over a singular sonic experience.
Brume have absorbed the experience of playing prestigious stages at Desertfest London and opening for High On Fire in Europe, and are now ready to take on a bigger role than ever in the heavy underground with the release of Rabbits.
Jamie McCathie - Guitar
Susie McMullan - Vox/Bass
Jordan Perkins-Lewis - Drums
Rabbits will be released on digital, CD and LP from Magnetic Eye Records on November 22nd.

Watch Konvent's new video for the album title track HERE!
Could Copenhagen become the new death doom capital? If so, one of the main reasons would be Konvent! Founded in 2015, the collective stoically trudges through the blackest mires – following in the footsteps of Mythic, Paradise Lost, Skepticism and Winter, who all unleashed the bleakest horror on mankind in the early 90s. Rikke Emilie List`s guttural vocals and tenacious riffing combined with menacingly heavy production make the debut by these four Danish women a massive, extreme metal highlight of early 2020 – and it wouldn`t come as a surprise if their upcoming album, Puritan Masochism, conjures up a deserved revival for the whole death doom genre! Set for release on January 24, 2020 via leading rock and metal label Napalm Records, today Konvent are serving up a brutal appetizer with their first single and music video for the album title track, “Puritan Masochism”. Watch it right HERE!
“Puritan Masochism was the first song written for our debut album.” The band explains. “It’s about how humans have the tendency of working against ourselves, negatively comparing ourselves to others and setting unattainable goals, sometimes without even realizing it.”
“Our debut album, Puritan Masochism, is the result of two years of hard work. During the process of the songwriting, we were inspired musically by both death, black and doom metal, as we aimed to give this album a broader sound than our demo back in 2017. The lyrics are inspired by the fight of regaining control when surrounded by chaos of different forms, which everyone may be affected by at some point in your life.”
Following their 2017 demo and highly acclaimed festival appearances at such as Aalborg Metal Festival, Metal Magic Festival and Copenhell Freezes Over in 2018, Konvent not only inked a worldwide deal with Napalm Records, but their mesmerizing mix of death and doom also led them to the big Danish stages, when they played both Copenhell and Roskilde Festival. While rapidly stepping out as one of Europe's best kept death and doom secrets, 2020 will finally see Konvent release their hotly anticipated debut album, Puritan Masochism, which was recorded live in Lasse Ballade’s studio in Copenhagen over a period of two weeks.
Coming January 24 via LP, CD and Digital formats through Napalm Records, the pre-sale has just begun at THIS LOCATION!
Rikke Emilie List – Vocals
Sara Helena Nørregaard – Guitar

Byzanthian Neckbeard are now streaming the entirety of their new EP Extinction via Doomed and Stoned. The EP is set to be released this Friday.
Listen to the EP here: https://doomedandstoned.com/post/187942400263/byzanthianneckbeard
Some bands quite simply embody their name in every shape and form, and when it comes to Byzanthian Neckbeard... you get the picture quickly. Riff-laden doom is on offer on this follow-up EP, after their début From the Clutches of Oblivion took them out of their native Guernsey and straight onto the New Blood Stage at UK’s Bloodstock Festival.
Extinction takes a while to limber up, but once “Coffin Bomb” gets into the swing of things, the trio put on a no-punches-pulled performance across each of the three tracks. Phil Skyrme’s guttural vocals match up to the rough-and-fuzzy riffing, matched perfectly to Dan Robilliard’s muscular bass playing and Paul Etasse’s precise and groove-driven drumming. “Extinction” takes us out with a seven-minute stomper.
Thus the EP ends, ready to be looped again until more material emerges from the island-bound miscreants who go by the name of Byzanthian Neckbeard.
Venezuelan blackened raw death-doom abomination Cthonica premiere the new track "Act I: The Chalice" at heavily trafficked web-portal MetalInjection.net. The track hails from the band's horrific debut album, Typhomanteia: Sacred Triarchy of Spiritual Putrefaction, which will be released internationally on October 25th by Clavis Secretorvm in conspiracy with both Sentient Ruin and Caligari Records: Clavis Secretorvm will handle the European CD, double-vinyl, and digital formats; Sentient Ruin will handle the North American double-vinyl and digital formats, while Caligari Records will handle the cassette tape version. Hear Cthonica's "Act I: The Chalice" in its entirety exclusively HERE.
On Typhomanteia: Sacred Triarchy of Spiritual Putrefaction, Cthonica unravel almost an hour of blood-curling and slithering ritualistic aural terror the hideousness and repulsiveness of which has rarely been seen on this earth. Converging somewhere in the middle between the agonizing and pummelling death-doom of Incantation and Disembowelment and the twisted and serpentine blackened chaos of bands like Beherit, Blasphemy, Portal, and Teitanblood and adding hazy layers of purulent noise and sepulchral dark ambient murk to further disfigure their abhorrent creation, Cthonica have crossed a new threshold in extreme metal horror, setting an entirely new standard of sonic inversion with their raw and decaying sound, and taking the glorification and worship of death and perversion to an entire new realm of conceptual and audial atrocity.
Raw blackened death-doom plague Cthonica began in Caracas, Venezuela, back in 2016 (formed by D.V. on guitars, bass, and drums, and H.K. handling vocals, noise, and electronics, lyrics, and concepts), rising from the ashes of a previous incarnation of the project called Okkvlt. Cthonica is, and likely always will be, a proudly home-recorded project: both for necessity due to the precarious access to resources in the tumultuous Venezuelan society and general lack of most things out there, and for the complete refusal by the core duo behind the project to compromise or embrace standardized and commonly acceptable creation processes. As such, Cthonica's existence will likely always be one of near-complete lack and isolation, a state and condition which has perhaps made certain aspects of their art even more violent, defiant, and abominable. That of Cthonica appears to be an existence of evolved regression, where a state of isolation, lack, and primitivism has evolved aberrantly, and created fertile conditions for the development of deviant and feral art forms. Regarding this aspect of their creation process, the band has stated that:-
"We are a home-made recording project because we are oblivious to so-called professional hi-fi techniques and firmly believe that the approach of basic and primitive resources keeps us on the line of what we want."
Lyrically, musically, and conceptually, Cthonica are focused on expressing the abyss within every human life, not (only) through the classic but overused Nietzschean cliché, but also and mostly as a Tehomic-Typhonian metamorphosis of every man's reason through what they call "spiritual putrefaction," or the progressive human corruption through the guidelines of opprobrious disciplines and their teachings, a concept which has shaped and defined the band’s abhorrent debut album, Typhomanteia: Sacred Triarchy of Spiritual Putrefaction.

Doom metal band The Crawling have just released a video for their song "Still No Sun". The song is from their album Wolves and the Hideous White which was released last year.
The band commented:-
"The urge to belong can be overwhelming, and we often sacrifice parts of ourselves to be with others. Still No Sun explores the failing of relations through the eyes of one who knows it should end, despite the desperate urge to remain. The unearthing feelings of loneliness, and haunting images of a life in solitude can be blinding when it comes to logical thought. I often wonder if it is genuinely possible to deceive yourself completely, or is there always a part that knows, and is the relief of separation worth it?"

Australian death/doom cult Carcinoid premiere the new track "Sickness" through NoCleanSinging.com. The track hails from the band's striking debut album, Metastatic Declination, set for international release on October 7th via Memento Mori for the CD version and November 1st via Blood Harvest Records for the vinyl LP version. Hear Carcinoid's "Sickness" in its entirety exclusively HERE.
Hailing from Melbourne, Carcinoid belong to that strain of nefarious bands that could not possibly be given birth to: this is the offspring of a miscarriage, more like. So odorous, pugnacious, and hideous is the music that this quartet belch forth, it verily sounds like a radioactive, cancerous growth bubbling up from a post-apocalyptic landscape; not for nothing are they Carcinoid. Comprised of past/current members of other local underground acts such as Dungeons of Blood, Pregnancy, Reaper, Eternal Rest, Hobo Magic, Xenos, and Spawn, Carcinoid claim to be equally influenced by the likes of Autopsy, Napalm Death, Paradise Lost (early!), Corrupted, Pungent Stench, Obituary, Grief, Carcass, Cathedral (also early!), and Brutal Truth among others. The amalgamation of such foul ingredients results in a putrescent stew where death metal and doom of the filthiest and most crushing order predominates, and sudden blasts of grinding derangement help intensify the vile listening experience. Such is the sound of Metastatic Declination, the band's debut album: no melody, no light, no hope!
Suitably furnished with starkly regressionist cover art courtesy of Necro Frost and with gutsf***ing mastering from Blood Duster's Jason Fuller at Goatsound, Carcinoid's Metastatic Declination is truly a record for only the sickest and most hardened ears - if you're a false, do no entry! Memento Mori's CD version will also include as bonus tracks the band's 2018 demo.
In the meantime, hear the next cancerous growth of the new track "Sickness" in its entirety exclusively HERE, courtesy of NoCleanSinging.com. Hear the first cancerous growth with the previously revealed "Suffering Reborn" both HERE at Memento Mori's official YouTube channel and HERE at Blood Harvest's Bandcamp.
Swedish doom lords Goatess premiere the new track "What Lies Beneath" at heavily trafficked web-portal CVLTNation.com. The track hails from the band's highly anticipated third album, Blood and Wine, set for international release on September 27th via Svart Records. Hear Goatess' "What Lies Beneath" in its entirety exclusively HERE.
Goatess summon the frenzy and religious ecstasy of a Bacchus cult with the aptly titled Blood and Wine. Riffs of biblical, Cecil B. DeMille magnitude part the Red Sea and chariot their way across the dunes like a relentless raging Roman legion. Expert songwriting by modern veterans of the scene, Sweden’s Goatess take the traditional doom metal foundations of Saint Vitus, Trouble, and early Cathedral out to the desert and mould it into a set of arid, hypnotic stoner grooves. Bringing to mind modern classics of desert rock like the catchier moments of Kyuss’ Sky Valley and Corrosion Of Conformity’s Blind albums, Blood and Wine is a thirst-quenching refreshment in a parched dust bowl. The revitalized line-up of Kenta Karlbom (drums) and Niklas Jones (guitar) with new initiates Karl Buhre (vocals) and Samuel Cornelsen (bass) have struck a mother lode of gold with their rich doom pedigree and a newfound lifeblood in their chemistry. Having already tread the hallowed boards of sonic temples all over Europe several times, Blood and Wine will see the Goatess cult of doom enthusiasts drawn in anew and the Bacchanalia cult swelling in their hooded numbers.
Nine doses of intoxicating mesmerism that showcase seasoned and masterful command of doom-craft, this album marks Goatess finding a stride in their cloven hooves. Captivating and subtly epic songs steam roll a slow descent into the underworld deserts of your mind, providing a suitable companion to nights of group debauchery or solo excursions to the soul’s outer limits. Giving in to the Bacchanalia at the heart of this record induces a mythical orgy of sonic Sabbathian riff-worship that’s impossible to deny. Once you pop the cork on this barrel-fermented vintage cask, you will enjoy and savour every heavy gulp until the very last drop.
