Italian death metal quartet Spiritual Deception will release their "Oxymoron" EP on October 8. Following EP releases in 2018 (self-titled) and 2019 (Etemenanki), "Oxymoron" showcases the band's highest level of compositional strength and technical prowess to date. A most apt summation of the sound heard on Oxymoron is introspective death metal infused with technical riffs and obscure atmospheres. The band released the following statement concerning the finer points of the forthcoming EP: "Oxymoron is born as a concept about light and darkness’ dualism. It takes inspiration from myths, Talmud, and works of literature. In the heart of the EP we placed a 3-part endeavour, composed by the triptych Captatio Benevolentiae’, ‘Oxymoron,' and ‘Damnatio Memoriae,’ as inspired by John Milton’s Paradise Lost. This mini-concept deals with the relationship between God and Lucifer, their conflict and how each character is depicted by the original author, focusing on the anti-hero concept.
Pre-orders will be available on July 26. Credits:

Spiritual Deception was born in June 2016 from an idea of Mirko Frontini (guitar) and Luca Zanlorenzi (vocal) after the breakup of their previous band Humans Ablaze. In a short time Gabriele Della Stua (bass) and Manuel Del Giudice (drums) joined the band to complete the line-up. In 2019 Gabriele parted ways with the band and Riccardo Maccarana joined the line-up as an additional guitarist. In 2020 Billy Repalam joined the band as a new bass player and Mirko Frontini became the main vocalist of the band, while keeping playing guitar, after Luca’s departure the same year. Melbourne metalcore risers Drown This City have released their earth-shattering EP "Colours We Won't Know" yesterday via UNFD. Following their earlier music video for single “New Burn Order,” the band are celebrating today's release with the reveal of a music video for EP standout “Carbon14.” “Carbon14” was written lyrically by DTC bassist / vocalist Toby Thomas, who shares that the track is a comparison between carbon isotope (or, Carbon 14) and himself – where the former is an atom known for being in a constant state of decay, Thomas describes how he has often felt this way in relation to his mental health journey as he goes on to explain:- "The lyrics are a personal expression of the inner turmoil I have felt between the fight for positivity while also not believing it is something my atomic structure would ever allow me to experience. "The story is told from the perspective of a man who has spent years working at his mental health only to feel a sense of failure and constant short comings. It describes the mental turmoil the character is experiencing whilst trying to stay on track to better himself instead of giving in to his demons and settling into the comfort of a darker state of mind." Drown This City boldly tackle further conversations concerning mental health, grappling with childhood trauma and healing returning wounds on their new EP "Colours We Won't Know". Fuelled by references to metalcore, hardcore and other heavy sub-genres, CWWK finds Drown This City at their absolute heaviest, offering dynamic instrumentation among stark lyrical imagery and elevated clean / unclean vocal delivery. Despite its darkness, the release ultimately offers a glimmer of hope with the message that it’s never too late to tackle your mental health head on, even long after you think you’ve beaten it. With their own personal wounds truly laid bare and continuing to heal, ultimately Drown This City hope to stir up the courage in everyone to dig deep and fight their buried pain. To date, "Colours We Won't Know" has garnered over 90K streams, meanwhile the band found themselves gracing the playlist cover for Homegrown & Heavy. "Colours We Won't Know" is out in full now via UNFD. Drown This City play the Melbourne leg of Full Tilt Festival alongside Northlane, Hands Like Houses, Thy Art Is Murder, Luca Brasi, Slowly Slowly, Make Them Suffer, and more in July and are set to support In Hearts Wake on their national tour in November. Finnish extreme metallers Progeny of Sun release 'Dark Wanderer' EP along with music video 'Eclipse'29/5/2021 Finnish extreme metal band Progeny Of Sun released their new EP Dark Wanderer via Inverse Records. To celebrate the release the band also released a music video for Eclipse track. Watch Eclipse music video: https://youtu.be/nAafZPI-Ji0 The band comments: "We think this is a huge improvement from the first EP. The sounds and texts have gotten increasingly dark and gained a pressuring twist. All in all, the material feels more unified this time around even though we have more people behind it. Vocals are bit more straightforward compared to the first EP, still with a lot of variance, but with more taste. This EP summarizes well the direction we want to take our music, and the next album will be killer. The video is also an absolute cracker especially considering it's fully our own making. Joni did absolutely amazing job getting it done. We think the video also summarizes our energy and enthusiasm precisely. The video shoot was easy, we just played the song as we would with an audience. We had only one small setback when the person who was supposed to shoot the video got quarantined because of coronavirus. Fortunately, Joni was able to step up and with little additional help from our "manager" we handled the situation well." Listen to the Dark Wanderer EP on:

Links: Melbourne metalcore risers Drown This City have announced their new EP "Colours We Won't Know" will be released on Friday 28th May via UNFD. Following their new single and video 'New Burn Order' last month, the band are following up with a fierce new cut from the EP titled 'Borderline Existence' today. DTC vocalist Alex Reade shares how the track's haunting scenario – depicting a person's out of body experience watching on at themselves trapped in an asylum – represents the agitation and anger she’s experienced feeling forced to pursue a certain path due to external pressure placed on her:- "I've found myself wearing thin because of this, wondering what I was fighting against and how long could I keep going for. This song reflects the battle I feel to succeed against all odds, fuelled by sheer terror that my life will be for nothing. The line ‘I really thought that I’d amount to something, I should have known you’d get me in the end’ really reflects the exhaustion I feel wondering if I can keep going with this fight to be heard and understood. I’m exhausted, always pushing against, trying to win, trying to get ‘there’ and I just don’t know where that is any more.” Drown This City's Alex Reade describes the band's 2021 EP as the ultimate purge of darkness. While their 2019 release "Alpha // Survivor" had been the proving ground for her strength and overcoming, "Colours We Won’t Know" finds the vocalist winding back the clock and standing face to face with the past torment she thought had been put to rest. “I think being in lockdown in Melbourne left us no choice but to face whatever we were running from, and that time drew every bit of honesty with myself out of me. It was very confronting to feel such sadness in me again, but I worked through all of the disgust and shame I’d been suppressing, and we’ve written our saddest and bleakest songs to date because of it.” Musically, DTC find themselves at their absolute heaviest and collaborating on themes and ideas as a band and team more than ever. With a freshly formed core writing group at play — comprising Reade (lyrics), guitarist Josh Renjen leading instrumentation and new bassist/vocalist and co-lyricist Toby Thomas — together the band push every boundary possible. Fuelled by references to metalcore, hardcore and other heavy sub-genres, CWWK offers dynamic instrumentation, stark lyrical imagery and elevated clean/unclean vocal delivery. Thomas joined the DTC family just prior to the writing and recording of the release and listeners will find his particular influence over belters ‘Carbon14’ and ‘Time Won’t Remember Us’. On his debut project with Drown This City, he shares how he and Reade quickly formed a bond and drew from their similar experiences to bring the release to life. “Colours We Won’t Know is an exploration of cognitive distortions depicted from different perspectives and stories, ultimately derived from our experiences. The songs discuss the results of trauma and mental illness, along with the effects this has on our own environments and those around us. It both embraces and challenges hope in the face of personal awareness and growth.” Despite its darkness, CWWK ultimately offers a glimmer of hope with the message that it’s never too late to tackle your mental health head on, even long after you think you’ve beaten it. With their own personal wounds truly laid bare and continuing to heal, ultimately Drown This City hope to stir up the courage in everyone to dig deep and fight their buried pain. Brazilian melodic metallers Lasting Maze bring a reflection on fear with "Thunder" EP release24/4/2021 Brazilian melodic metal Lasting Maze was formed back in 2014. Composing songs about the human mind, psychology, science, movies, games, as well as human feelings, the group formed by Grazy Mesquita (vocals), Pedro Anselmo (guitars), Isaac Barros (bass) and Mick Souza (drums) worked hard despite the delay caused by coronavirus pandemic, releasing singles, videos and playing online festivals while finishing their new effort, a follow-up to 2016's "Silent Spring" EP. April 23rd marks the end of this wait with the release of "Thunder" EP, an effort which shows Lasting Maze's new approach and maturity, presenting a positive message to fans, showing that it is possible to face your fears and challenges with patience, wisdom and holding your head high. Singer Grazy Mesquita says about the EP: "'Thunder' brings an energetic and positive atmosphere, making a reflection on fear, a normal feeling, but one that can imprison the human mind. In order to face fear, it's necessary to understand it, question it and map it, then you are be able to move on. The songs propose that it is possible to face all adversities without placing yourself in a victim position, understanding your place as an individual, empowering yourself and facing obstacles with vigour, wisdom, patience and holding your head high." The EP was recorded, mixed and mastered by Daniel Tavares, at Nevada Studio. The artwork was made by Wesley Souza and shows elements that represent all the songs of the EP: Thunder, empowerment, the Cosmos, the search to achieve what is desired. Above all, the artwork conveys a stormy and dark atmosphere, representing the countless adversities that we face, but it also conveys serenity and strength through the features of the character. All these elements result in a beautiful masterpiece that sets the atmosphere of "Thunder" EP. LASTING MAZE is:
