Puerto Rico's very own Aura Azul has officially had it's latest release 'Beyond The Doors Of Time' become sold out in Japan.

The single has had three achievements given by ourstage.com - 'top 10 metal' in July 2012 and 'top 40 metal' in August and September 2012 respectively. Ourstage is owned by the MTV network.

Evidence of it selling out in Japan can be seen here: http://rockstakk.shop-pro.jp/?pid=56797196

Furthermore Iron Maiden and Iron Maiden's management handpicked Aura Azul to open for them in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The video of which can be seen here:

Is Eurovision becoming a platform for exposing more metal bands?

20/3/2013

Picture
(Clockwise from above, Lordi (Finland), Terasbetoni (Finland), Eldrine (Georgia) and maNga (Turkey).

Is it a strange phenomenon that is occurring or is it simply a new idea by European music industries to promote their metal music scene?

Ever since Lordi graced the stage of the Eurovision song contest back in 2006 and won it emphatically with their song 'Hard Rock Hallelujah', this was to become the first Heavy Metal entry in Eurovision history and consequently the first one to win the competition. Post-Eurovision the band were congratulated from many alike from the Mayor of Helsinki to the President of Finland at the time, even producing Christmas stamps with the band members masks on them as well as coca-cola delivering a Lordi style product. Their winning song 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' was then released on their sensational album 'The Arockalypse'.

Forward a year and as Lordi opened up again with their winning song succeeding a spine-chilling introduction showing the Finnish part of the article circle (in fact the vocalist Mr. Lordi was born in Rovaniemi, the administrative capital of Lapland - could Santa Claus really be a demonic rocker?) and the band playing on an icy and snowy backdrop which features iconic Finnish cultural symbols, such as the pine trees, the wolves, the frozen landscape and of course Finnish Heavy Metal.

It then was the turn of Finnish Power Metal band Teräsbetoni, whom of which currently is on a hiatus as of 2011, signed to Sakara Records (previously signed to Warner Music Finland) the quartet embraced the cold winter storm of Helsinki's Hartwall Areena and the passionate Finnish Metal scene followers that valiantly waved their national flag along to the music, but what possibly made the band end near last position may rest with the choice of song, 'Missä miehet ratsastaa' which in fact progressed the band to the final in the 2008 edition of the Eurovision, even so it is a fabulous song, full of oomph and gusto, even so the final interval act was even more sensational, the Cello Metal legends that are Apocalyptica
Forwarding a few years to 2010 and it was Turkey's turn to enter a metal band, sure it was not as heavy as the previous bands but it still carried enough riff kudos to land maNga a second place finish in the Final, losing out unfortunately to Germany's Lena; to this day most music fans still claim maNga should have been the winners since their song (and themselves consequently) were unheard of relatively in Europe, whereas Lena and her entry was already massive hit on the European music scene, still maNga put up a damn good performance with their song 'We Could Be The Same', which aptly is a good slogan for the global metal community, we are the same as it would seem. maNga in fact had gained popularity through their song 'Bir Kadın Çizeceksin' as it was featured on the 2006 edition of FIFA and came from their debut s/t album, the album was later re-released as 'maNga+' with additional songs and adapted artwork, still keeping maNga's recognizable creature. Then their second album came out 'Şehr-i Hüzün' in 2009, still keeping the band's trademark sound of Anatolian melodies and Nu Metal. Their latest album is 'e-akustik' and was released last year, overall in my opinion they were the real winners.

Consequently 'We Could Be The Same', the Eurovision entry that maNga went with, was the first ever English song they have done, since then they also released the single 'Fly To Stay Alive'.

Forward on a year and the Nu Metal / Alternative Rock trend carries on, this time it is the Georgian band Eldrine to grace the Eurovision song contest and 2011 was to prove to be another humdinger for metal as the winning song was far from rock or metal. But none the less to see a Georgian Metal band in Eurovision is a shock since the scene itself is relatively minute, with only a handful of bands actually getting known in the Caucasian region, but none the less they brought the Nu Metal sound once more, even with costumes that may even represent traditional values in terms of dress style.
Heavy Metal may need that, just 'One More Day' to reshuffle and deliver another lashing on Eurovision to win the title of the most competitive music song contest on the planet.

So where does this leave the relationship between Heavy Metal and the Eurovision Song Contest? Maybe some day a variation of the contest may be made to suit metal music, maybe Sweden or Norway may send a Black Metal band in, who knows. But what happened in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest did not happen in the final of the competition, during the semi-finals and the voting stages to vote acts to the final, from Switzerland the duo act Sinplus of whom play Post-Punk, New Wave and Alternative Rock music sadly did not get through, nor did the Israeli rock band Izabo, sure it is not metal music, but the latter is just an evident sign that rock is still represented, more so another act not to make it to the final was the Slovakian artist Miroslav Šmajda of whom plays Alternative Rock / Heavy Metal. However on a side note, the French entry Anggun is of Indonesian origin and as I found out when interviewing her, she takes influence from Heavy metal music, yet sings pop music, weird eh? So what will 2013 bring....

Picture

As Eurovision Song Contest 2013 rolls onto our screens on the following dates (NB for the UK semi-finals will be on BBC Three and the Final on BBC One - commentators Scott Mills and Ana Matronic, Graham Norton respectively):

Semi-final 1 - 14 May 2013
Semi-final 2 - 16 May 2013

Final date - 18 May 2013

There are a number of rock / electronic music entries that should be watched out for.

Representing Albania is the Rock duo Adrian Lulgjuraj and Bledar Sejko
Representing Armenia is the Rock band Dorians
Representing Italy is the Pop Rock artist Marco Mengoni
Representing Lithuania is the Indie Rock artist Andrius Pojavis
Representing Macedonia is the Pop Rock artist Vlatko Lozanoski
Representing Norway is the Electro / Pop Rock artist Margaret Berger
Representing Spain is the Pop Rock / Celtic Rock band El Sueño de Morfeo
Representing The Netherlands is the Alternative Rock / Pop Rock artist Anouk Teeuwe
Representing The United Kingdom is the Pop Rock artist Bonnie Tyler

The closest musically to metal music would be between the Albanian, Armenian and Spanish entries.

Lets start the show.

Adrenaline Mob and GuitarWorld.com release first 'Coverta' in-studio video for 'Romeo Delight' (Van Halen cover)‏

GuitarWorld.com has posted an exclusive new video of Adrenaline Mob recording their cover of ‘Romeo Delight’ (originally by Van Halen) for their new covers album 'Coverta', hitting stores on 12th March 12.

Adrenaline Mob featuring Russell Allen (Symphony X), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), John Moyer (Disturbed) and Mike Orlando (Sonic Stomp), will release a series of these in-depth recording videos via GuitarWorld.com in the coming weeks. Check out the current video of ‘Romeo Delight’ at this location.

Adrenaline Mob guitarist Mike Orlando states: “Recording 'Romeo Delight' was an absolute blast for me. I grew up listening to EVH, and from the moment I heard 'Eruption,' I was hooked for life! Tracking the guitars was such a blast, as I plugged in my white-and-black Charvel, my trusty ol' MXR Phase 90 and went right into my cranked-up Marshall JCM800, entering that EVH zone and giving my all to pay tribute to one of the greatest rock guitarists ever! We had a great time with Mike Portnoy's idea to insert a medley of kick-ass VH parts in the mid-section while going into a great treat before we head back to the final chorus!”

"Coverta" is an eight-track EP featuring cover versions of some of the band’s favorite songs. Long-time fans of Mike Portnoy are aware of the multiple cover CDs he has released with Dream Theater and with Neal Morse. Coverta is the first CD of covers recorded by Adrenaline Mob.

Track List:

01. "High Wire," Badlands
02. "Stand Up and Shout," Dio

06. "Kill the King," Rainbow
07. "The Lemon Song," Led Zeppelin

Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot, Symphony X, Blind Guardian, Kobra and the Lotus, Unleash The Archers, Evanescence, Paramore

Press reviews:

“With great musicianship all round including some excellent guitar work, I understand that this band’s fanbase is increasing all the time.” – RavenHeart Music

“If you like female-fronted power / thrash metal with choral and symphonic arrangements, Edge Of Attack is the album for you. Be on the lookout for Edge Of Attack to make a name for themselves in 2013. 8.5/ 10″ – HardRockHaven

“The whole album, in my view, oozes class and talent, it really does have everything the most discerning of Metalheads could ask for, even the albums shortest track, “Forever” packs a real punch, with its immense riff and catchy chorus it is surely a song screaming out to be released as a single…I’d strongly advise you to get your grubby little mitts on this album, as to me it represents a masterful fusion of old school Thrash and Metal, delivered with a bang up to date, cutting edge sound that is a real joy to behold. 9.5/10″

– Planet Mosh

“Edge Of Attack succeed in the task of being incredibly cohesive, smooth, and streamlined.
This combination is probably what has made it so memorable for me over a short time.” 8/10

Cauldron Announce New Drummer

27/7/2012

__(Left to right: MYLES DECK, IAN CHAINS, JASON DECAY)

Canadian heavy metallers Cauldron have revealed their new, permanent drummer as MYLES DECK.

Myles spent much of his life living and playing in bands in Halifax, Nova Scotia, including blackened thrashers Hellacaust, as well as fronting a Detroit-style punk rock outfit called MYLES DECK AND THE FUZZ. He replaces Cauldron's former drummer, Chris Steve.

Bassist and vocalist Jason Decay comments:

"Rather than just grab the next available drummer, we wanted to take our time this time and make sure we found the right guy, which we're pleased to announce is Myles Deck.  Myles moved halfway across the country from Moncton, New Brunswick, which shows his dedication.  He's also into a lot of the same bands as us and understand our vision and goals.  He's also tall so we won't have to prop him up on a stool for band photos!  We wish Chris Steve all the best with his new band Old James (heavy Skynyrd), and would like to thank Chris Rites for helping us out again with the new record."

MYLES DECK adds:

"I was vacationing in Moncton, New Brunswick, catching some rays on the shore of the Petitcodiac when I got 'the call'.  I love the kind of music that makes you wanna bang your head or thrust your hips.  I'd seen Cauldron a handful of times and they made me wanna do both.  So I sold most of my belongings and moved up to Toronto to play drums for this great band.  I'm absolutely chuffed to be playing with Cauldron and look forward to spending many gruelling hours in the van and studio together."

Brutally Delicious Cooking W/ Corey Pierce (GOD FORBID)‏

27/7/2012

Picture
_When God Forbid's drummer, Corey Pierce isn’t tearing it up on drums and making fans laugh, he is satisfying his love for food! Pierce takes some time out from his hectic touring schedule to show Bruce Moore with Brutally Delicious on ifood.tv how to bang out his favorite recipe for Cheese-Stuffed Hamburgers.

Watch Pierce cook and talk about everything from the God Forbid writing process for their current album, "Equilibrium", to his experiences while touring world-wide. Fans can see how with a little soul and a lot of meat, greatness is made!

Recipe:

Ground beef - 1 Pound

Garlic - 1 Tablespoon, minced

Horseradish - 1 Tablespoon

Worcestershire sauce - 5 Dash

Gouda cheese - 1 Small (cut into 1/16 in size cubes)

Hot Sauce - 1 Dash

Salt - 1 Pinch

Pepper - 1 Pinch

Directions:

Place all your beef in a large bowl and add one tablespoon of the garlic and horseradish. Add a liberal dash of the Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce. Mix well, by hand. Cut the Gouda cheese into small cubes about 1/16 in size, then split the beef into individual and equal patties around 6 oz. each. Depress and roll the cubes of Gouda into each patty and fold inward. Try not leave the cubes of cheese exposed. Season the patties with salt and pepper on each side and make a depression with your thumb in each burger. Now brush with oil lightly and cook on medium high heat to high heat (depending on your tastes as far as rare or medium). You want to cook the burgers anywhere from 3-6 minutes a side. Place on buns and add whatever vegetables and or condiments you see fit. Enjoy!

Catch God Forbid on the Trespass America Festival going on now and stay tuned for more updates.  Check current tour dates here.

Blood Of The Sun's new album 'Burning on the wings of Desire' is scheduled for a Fall / Winter release on Listenable.

Blood of the Sun was formed in 2002 by Henry Vasquez (Saint Vitus, Archie Bunker) on drums and Dave Gryder (Storm at Sunrise) on keyboards. In 2004, the band released their self-titled, first release on the independent brain ticket label. This initial line up included Las Crucis singer Mark Zamarron, Sub Oslo bassist Miguel Veliz, as well as Archie Bunker guitarists Jay Benfield and Rich Christopher.

Cauldron Reveal New Album Title and Artwork

12/7/2012

_Canadian heavy metal trio Cauldron have revealed that their upcoming new album will be titled 'Tomorrow's Lost'. The album is due to be released in October on Earache Records.

'Tomorrow's Lost' is Cauldron's third full-length album, and was recorded in Parkdale, Toronto with producer Jameson Elliott, who also recorded the band's 2010 album, 'Burning Fortune'.

View the cover artwork for the new album here.

Vocalist / Bassist Jason Decay comments:

"The artwork was done by Todd Kowalski, based on an idea we gave him surrounding the title, Tomorrow's Lost.  The title is open to interpretation really, but I suppose it's about how the future could be written off, either for us, the world, or for someone else, depending on how they interpret it.  Like how, more than likely, tomorrow has already been spoken for and is a lost cause, no matter what."

Guitarist Ian Chains adds:

"It's not a concept album or anything and doesn't mean any one specific thing.  As an album title, it refers to varying degrees of hopelessness that we can somehow relate to.  It means striving hard to achieve something that may never see the light of day, or making poor decisions that come back to ruin everything for you."

For further insights into the album's creation, read CAULDRON's final studio blog for Terrorizer magazine now here.

See Cauldon live at the following shows:
