Polish pagan black metallers Varmia unveil artwork for new album ‘Bal Lada’

Polish pagan alchemists Varmia – who pay tribute to their Baltic roots by combining black metal with traditional instruments such as the goat horn and the tagelharpa – will release their third album (and M-Theory Audio debut), “Bal Lada,” on March 12th. The artwork, which was designed by percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Piotr, can be viewed below. The album can be pre-ordered on CD and limited-edition 2LP coloured vinyl at www.smarturl.com/varmia.

Band founder Lasota speaks of the new release:

“The album title 'Bal Lada' is a wordplay. It's most obvious in Polish, but should translate well in other languages as well. It means both 'ballad' and 'Lada's ball'. The term 'ballad' could refer to a literary form, but is also understood as a sad song. 'Lada' or 'Lado' is an ancient deity associated with both Baltic and Slavic cult heritage. She and/or he was most likely responsible for harmony, fertility and well-being. The title represents our take on the medieval dance of death concept and its depiction in the danse macabre allegory - the 'bal' of life forces, circle of cycles, primal lusts, desires and thus deprivations and metamorphoses of flesh and spirit. This is a ritual dance in the oldest forest on one hand, but it's also a whole universe's life and death cycle on the other. The lyrics are mainly in Polish, but with some elements of ancient Prussian language. The cover art and graphic design is made by our band member Piotr, who plays all the ethnic instruments on the album. Follow the Moon and walk into the silent woods of Warmia.”

Varmia recorded their previous albums – 2017's “Z Mar Twych” and 2018's “W Ciele Nie” – in culturally significant remote locations throughout their native Poland. “Bal Lada” continues that practice, as the 10 tracks of ominous and atmospheric pagan black metal contained within were tracked in a makeshift studio set up by the band in an old 19th-century manor in Northern Poland, where they performed while playing together as a live unit with no sound editing. A video documenting the album's recording can be seen at this location: https://youtu.be/o9DnynINIo8.

Picture

Varmia recently unveiled a taste of the sounds to be found on “Bal Lada” with the premiere of the music video for the first single from the record, “Bielmo”. The visually stunning tribute to the band's home region can be viewed at https://youtu.be/ujzPY7NmeXQ. Additional previews of “Bal Lada” will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Varmia was formed in 2016 by vocalist / guitarist / composer Lasota with a mission of fusing black metal with musical influences that pay tribute to the ancient Baltic tribes of the historical Warmia region of northern Poland. Vocally, harsh growls shroud the band's music and native Polish lyrics in a visceral aura, the only breaks occurring when using the traditional, ancient technique of “whitevoice” clean singing as utilized during ancient East-Central European rituals, rites of passage and festivals. Meanwhile, the power of the band's metal influences are enhanced on “Bal Lada” by traditional ethnic instrumentation of the Baltic Rites via sounds of tagelharpa, goat horn, wood tuba and krivula. The result is a compelling mix of dark metallic sounds that channel the spirit of early Enslaved, Satyricon and Wolves in the Throne Room and folk elements that drive acts such as Wardruna.

Varmia is:

Lasota - guitars, vocals
Alle - bass, backing vocals
Svarrge - drums
Piotr - percussion, tagelharpa, goat horn, wood tuba, krivula, backing vocals

On their eponymous EP, Icon Of EviL offers two ultra-heavy new songs - "Ojcze Nasz" (Your Father In Heaven) and "Urojony Bóg" (The God Delusion). Polish Death Metallers Banisher unveil "Apotheosis" music video

As Selfmadegod Records prepares to release Degrees Of Isolation - the impending fourth album from Polish death crew Banisher - the label this week unveils the new single, "Apotheosis."

Recorded by Banisher's powerful line-up including members and ex-members of Decapitated, Belphegor, Vital Remains, Hate, Redemptor, and Shodan, Degrees Of Isolation delivers eight new songs totaling forty minutes of pulverization. The album was recorded at Invent-Sound Studio in Bydgoszcz, Poland and the cover art created by Łukasz Jaszak.

The new "Apotheosis" video clip was made by Rafał "Kvass" Kwaśny. The band offers with its release:-

"'Apotheosis' was the first song that was written on Degrees Of Isolation. It's a hate-mockery hymn against all hypocrites who are pretending to be someone else that they are in real life. This is the only song on Degrees Of Isolation that sticks out from the concept of the album. This is a very raw, furious song, with a motoric verse, catchy refrain, savage blast beat coda, and crushing breakdown at the end. This is also the shortest song on the album, sort of a 'shot in the face.' What is also worth mentioning, the opening riff from the verse was written 'out of the head' on a sheet of paper during incarceration and adapted on the instrument later on after being released from custody."

See Banisher's "Apotheosis" visualizer at the Selfmadegod YouTube channel RIGHT HERE.

Degrees Of Isolation will be released through Selfmadegod Records on CD, limited box CD, and all digital platforms February 29th. Find pre-orders at the label webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Since their 2005 formation, Banisher has delivered a captivating style of brutal death metal loaded with technical precision and an experimental/sci-fi flair, releasing albums through Torn Flesh Records, Unquiet Records, Deformeathing Production, as well as several independent demos and EPs. Their fourth album, Degrees Of Isolation appears to be the most diverse, mature, and both musically and technically advanced album they have ever captured. The lyrics are based on true events, which makes the music on Degrees Of Isolation all the more dark and depressive. Every song tackles the feelings and emotions experienced throughout incarceration, being held in custody, and after being acquitted.

Polish Death Doom veterans Funeral Cult to release new EP "Possession Done" in February

28/1/2020

Picture
Lusitanian Music sets February 21, 2020 as an international release date for "Possession Done" - a new mini-album from legendary Polish metal band Funeral Cult, featuring three new tracks of uncompromising dark death-doom metal!

After «Korowody cieni» album and despite the turmoil of events with the band, Funeral Cult are working again on new material keeping their dark ambiance but giving their new tracks more death/doom atmosphere. Follow band's Facebook page for upcoming live events. Listen to band's preview and pre-order digipak CD at:

Funeral Cult was formed in 1993 by two friends Przemysław Pawlak (vocals) i Piotr Wilk (guitar). In a short time Karol Arkuszewski (drums) joined the band. They wanted to play severe and slow music which brings aura of sorrow, melancholy and dark. Lyrics were focused on Slavic people, their gods and funeral ceremonies and rites. All that described and shaped Funeral Cult’s soul. Finally Łukasz Jędrzejczyk (guitar) and Korsarz (bass) joined the band.

After few months of rehearsals the band recorded demo tape „In Tristitia Et In Lacrimis” at Radio Lodz – 4 death/doom metal tracks. This put things in motion. The band was interviewed by metal magazines and started to play some live shows. During all the time the band was working on the new stuff for the first full album. And in 1995, at Radio Lodz Studio again, they recorded 5 tracks. 50 minutes of death/doom metal but closer to doom metal from Great Britain represented by early Anathema or My Dying Bride with additional factor of Celtic Frost’s sound from „Into The Pandemonium”. They entitled the album „Korowody Cieni”. And the album was officially issued by Lusitanian Music from Portugal in 1996. In that time the line-up were: Piotr Wilk (guitar), Przemysław Pawlak (vocals), Karol Arkuszewski (drums), Sylwester Wilk (guitar), Paweł Matysiak (keyboards), Korsarz (bass). After „Korowody Cieni” there is one change in the line up, Korsarz leaves the band and Grzegorz Krom (bass) joins them.

In the meantime the band signs a contract with Polish label Millenium Records. They were supposed to record an EP, reissue „Korowody Cieni” and record their next full album. But everything went wrong and Millenium Records withdraws from the contract. Both parties ended in court. The trial lasted two years and the band was not able to do anything according to the contract conditions. This was the beginning of the end of Funeral Cult with their second album entitled „Mystery of Possession” recorded in 1998 and never issued.

In 2006 Karol Arkuszewski (drums) decided to reactivate the band. After 19 years he meets Piotr Wilk (guitar) again. They start to reshape new face of Funeral Cult and compose new tracks with a new millennium fresh approach but with the 90’s soul. Completing the line-up takes one year and Sylwester Wilk (guitar) and Grzegorz Krom (bass) join the band again. After Przemysław Pawlak (vocals) refusal they had to find new vocalist, this place was taken by Jacek Rybak. With this line-up the band starts to play live shows in 2018. They decided to play only two old songs – „The Wonderer” from „Korowody Cieni” and „Bojan’s Song” from „Mystery of Possession”. The rest of the songs are new ones. Before the end of 2018 Paweł Matysiak (keyborads) returns to the band. This was the last factor which let the band to hit with the full strike.

In April 2019 the band recorded three tracks at Heavy Gear Studio and tries to go to the open sea.

They contact Lusitanian Music again. After Portuguese label’s green light the idea of „Possession Done” EP was born...

Finnish Cello Metal veterans Apocalyptica release brand new video for 'En Route To Mayhem'

18/12/2019

Picture

Finland’s multi-Platinum cello-rock band Apocalyptica have released the video for ‘En Route To Mayhem’, which will transport the viewer to a fantastical post-humanity future. This imaginary world is barren, dusty, and littered with broken pieces of things once considered essential to humankind such as bits of plastic, a teddy bear, crumbling structures, cell phones and computers, bleached bones, and long-forgotten musical instruments. The setting is devoid of mankind, but brimming with the hope of new life; and then one day, thunder, lightning, and one drop at a time, it begins to rain, and Mother Nature steps in. Check out the ‘En Route To Mayhem’ video HERE.

Apocalyptica’s Eicca Toppinen comments:-

“‘En Route To Mayhem’ is a journey of hedonic needs growing into greed and aggression, driving into inner mayhem and ending without satisfaction. This video underlines the fact that however we think we are in control by destroying things and life around us, life itself will take over in the end, always. We are not in control of the bigger picture, and we should be aware of it and raise our respect to life around us.”

The ‘En Route To Mayhem’ video is in support of Apocalyptica’s upcoming album, Cell-0, due out January 10th, 2020 via Silver Lining Music. Produced by Apocalyptica – cellists Eicca Toppinen, Perttu Kivilaakso, and Paavo Lötjönen, and drummer Mikko Sirén and mixed by Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, Metallica and Black Sabbath), and recorded at Sonic Pump studios in Helsinki.

The recording of Cell-0 followed a four-year break between albums that gave the band a fresh perspective and affected the way they approached the new music. Cell-0 is the quartet's first instrumental album in 17 years and found the musicians challenging themselves to discover new flavours and colours in their respective instruments. For Cell-0 pre-order options, go to this location.

Perttu Kivilaakso comments:-

“Cell-0 has a concept which is to challenge the listeners to question themselves and ask “Am I doing the best I can for the environment, for other beings? Is there still something I can change?”

To highlight environmental issues, the band wanted to ask fans to do something for our planet; so to coincide with the release of the new video, they have launched a very special competition, which will give fans the chance to win the opportunity for Apocalyptica to play in their living room.

To enter, fans will need to show the band how they are making the planet a healthier place for everyone. Fans can head to their Facebook page and comment with photos/videos showing what they are doing to help the planet and telling the band why they should be picked as a winner.

To find out more information, head to the band’s Facebook page. The online contest is open to all European fans from now and will close at 7:00 pm CET Friday, January 10th, 2020.  Full terms and conditions can be found here.

In concert, Apocalyptica are known for their moving live performances and will kick off the New Year as Special Guests on Sabaton's 15-country, 23-date European arena tour that begins on January 17, 2020 in Zurich, Switzerland. With a set list that will likely vary night to night, Apocalyptica's performances will be comprised of new songs from Cell-0 as well as from the band's rich catalogue. Tickets are on sale now; go to https://www.apocalyptica.com for all pre-sales, VIP packages, and ticketing details.

SELFMADEGOD RECORDS proudly announces the signing of Polish death metal band BANISHER. The band’s fourth full length, "Degrees of Isolation", will be released on the 29th of February 2020 on CD / Ltd box / digital download.

Here is what the band says about the upcoming release:-

"'Degrees of Isolation' appears to be the most diverse, mature, and advanced (both musically and technically) album the band has ever done. The lyrics are based on true events, which makes the music on "Degrees of Isolation" dark and depressive. Every song talks about the feelings and emotions experienced throughout the incarceration, custody, and after being acquitted."

Also, it's worth mentioning that the album was recorded in a powerful line-up including members and ex-members of DECAPITATED, BELPHEGOR, VITAL REMAINS, HATE, REDEMPTOR, and SHODAN.

The album was recorded at Invent-Sound Studio in Bydgoszcz and contains 8 songs, which makes for almost 40 minutes of music. The cover art was made by Łukasz Jaszak (DECAPITATED, BLOOD RED THRONE, VOMITORY, VOLTURYON).

Lublin, Poland-based death metal destroyers Deivos present the band’s annihilating sixth studio full-length, "Casus Belli". The album is now confirmed for November release through their allies at Selfmadegod Records, who has posted the lead single, “Ataraxy.”

With the drums recorded at Roslyn Studio in March 2019, the bass recorded at Kamil Home Studio in August 2019, the bulk of Deivos’ "Casus Belli" including guitars and vocals were handled at Zed Studio in Chechło Poland, as were several of the band’s prior albums. The record was also mixed and mastered at Zed Studio by Tomek Zalewski and completed with album art by Maciej Kamuda (Sleep, Coffins, Trauma, Pathology).

Stream “Ataraxy,” the lead single from Deivos’ "Casus Belli", at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--ZezgYQ-ds

Devotees to the brutal death metal of Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Decapitated, Yattering, and similar acts are highly advised to explore the torment of Deivos .

Selfmadegod Records will release Deivos ’"Casus Belli" on CD, including a limited boxed edition, and digital formats on November 29th. Find physical pre-orders at the label webshop here https://tinyurl.com/deivoscasusbelli and watch for additional audio samples and more to be issued in the days ahead.

Deivos originated in 1997, releasing their first demo, Praised By Generations, in 1999. In 2003, they released the Hostile Blood MCD through Butchery Music, the EP enthusiastically accepted by the underground death community. In 2004, the band started to write new material for their first record which was ultimately recorded in January and February 2006 at the famous Hertz Studio (Decapitated, Vader). The record, entitled Emanation From Below, was released in Poland by Empire Records in November 2006. Thanks to Metal Mind Productions, in January 2008 the record was subsequently released in Europe and then in the US in 2008.

At the end of 2008 the band once again entered Hertz studio to record their second album Gospel Of Maggots, the album gaining the attention of Unique Leader Records who released it in February 2010. Following line-up changes, the band revisited Hertz Studio in February 2011 to record their third full-length effort, Demiurge Of The Void, which was also released by Unique Leader in September 2011.

Following a four-year gap, Deivos signed with Selfmadegod Records for the release of their crushing Theodicy album in February 2015. The band’s Endemic Divine album followed through Selfmadegod in February 2017, and the band’s more rapid recording and releasing schedule now continues in 2019 with the November 2019 release of their sixth album, Casus Belli.
