From Calgary, Alberta, metalcore is alive and rowdy thanks to Lost In Static. They have made a name for themselves locally and with the new single, “Jordan”, the band is continuing to entice listeners at home and abroad.
Watch and listen to the lyric video HERE.
This single is going to be on Lost In Static’s debut self-titled album released later this year. The heartfelt and personal song has special meaning to the band, which they explain in their own words:
“Our new single “Jordan” is our second track to be released from our upcoming debut record. 'Jordan' was a childhood friend who unfortunately lost his life from drinking and driving. This song was written in his honour. It's heavy, it's beautiful and we hope everyone is going to love it as much as we do!”.
The combination of solid riffs and juxtaposed vocals show a sombre and passionate side of Lost In Static while keeping with the heaviness that is the staple of the genre. Lost In Static takes their craft to a new level and will definitely be intriguing for heavy music lovers of all kinds. Recommended for fans of After the Burial, Veil of Maya, and Born of Osiris this is true metalcore.
“Jordan” is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play HERE.
What started as a cover band called Moron Mountain many years ago has now fully blossomed into an original metal act that has been playing stages since early 2019.
Comprised of seasoned musicians Lance MacBain, Noureen Amin, Jared Boyd, Tyler Johansen the metal band has just started their musical journey fusing the djent elements of progressive metal with metalcore.
The group works together to create music that is both aggressive and fun, with MacBain generally writing the music and MacBain, Johansen and Boyd collectively writing the lyrics. Relating to their band name, the messages they send through their lyrics convey relation to the feeling of getting lost in the “static” of the world, and all the events that take place; an almost overwhelming feeling of white noise.
With an emphasis on producing a tight live show full of headbanging, energy and moshing, Lost In Static is hitting the ground running with their debut album being released soon.
Australian metalcore band, Alpha Wolf, unveil their latest single, “creep”. This is the second single, following “Akudama”, from the band’s forthcoming new album, a quiet place to die, due out on September 25th via SharpTone Records. Following up the band’s 2017 debut LP, Mono, and 2019 EP, Fault, a quiet place to die is an intense, 11-track collection dealing with loss, anxiety and animosity.
Stream the new track here: http://shrptn.co/creep
The album is available now for pre-order here: https://sharptonerecords.co/collections/alpha-wolf.
Vocalist Lochie Keogh states:-
"‘Creep’ vents on frustrations and betrayals faced growing up attending and playing shows in the heavy music scene. It wasn't long after first coming to shows I realised I was still in the same popularity contest that cast me out when I was younger."
An iron will is only ever hardened within the forge, and Australia’s fastest rising metalcore act Alpha Wolf have proven they are made of sterner stuff. The five-piece bared their teeth in 2019 with the release of their EP Fault in joint partnership with Greyscale Records and SharpTone Records, it became a line in the sand that set expectations for all that would follow.
The band played sold out shows across Australia both headlining, and in support of acts such as Polaris and August Burns Red; as well as a slew of international tours across Asia, Europe, and even dipping their toes in to the American market.
If Fault was the line in the sand however, Alpha Wolf desired to make their mark permanent, something etched in stone for all to see. The band needed to push themselves harder, the band needed to prove they were worthy of their name, the band needed a quiet place to die.
2020 sees Alpha Wolf bite harder than ever with their sophomore release a quiet place to die, the culmination of every lesson learnt, every hit taken, and every loss felt. a quiet place to die is the end result of five individuals who have faced the fire and refuse to flinch, pouring their every-thing into making something they are truly proud of. The path to this point has only made their thirst greater, and soon enough, the wolves will be out for blood.
U.K. grindcore pioneers Napalm Death, who recently announced the release of their first album in five years, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism (Sept. 18, Century Media Records), have released the first single and lyric video from the highly-anticipated album: “Backlash Just Because” (https://youtu.be/FFDHuCeaM_Y).
Napalm Death vocalist Mark “Barney” Greenway said of the track, which debuted yesterday on Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal with Jose Mangin:
“This song in particular really spurred me on when I was writing lyrics for the album overall. It’s raucous and traditional, but also quirky and discordant and ultimately catchy-as-anything in the context of rampaging noise. Lyrically it was directed at the spiteful art of creating easy targets and fomenting paranoia and revulsion, which is something that I feel has become de rigueur in very recent times. I really let loose on the more sporadic vocals at the end of the song – it’s a real barkfest at that point. Lovely.”
Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism is the eagerly-awaited follow-up to the band’s critically-acclaimed 2015 album, Apex Predator – Easy Meat, and is the sixteenth studio album effort by Napalm Death. It was again recorded with long time producer Russ Russell and features artwork by Frode Sylthe.
From the pinnacle of confrontational instrumental extremity and steadfast lyrical humanity, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism warps musical landscapes all over again. The 12-song release is seething with caustic evolution and unrelenting scope.
Next to the jewel case CD edition of the album, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism is also available digitally and as a limited mediabook CD (+ patch) with 3 bonus tracks: “Feral Carve-up,” “White Kross” (Sonic Youth cover) and “Blissful Myth” (Rudimentary Peni cover). The vinyl version of the album includes a double-sided A2 poster and the bonus track “Air’s Turned Foul in Here” in the following 180g. Variations and limitations:
Black LP - unlimited
“Germicidal yellow swirled vinyl” – 250 copies from Century Media Records webshop
“Stressed sanguine blood smear vinyl” – 500 copies from indie stores

With this second full-length album following their critically acclaimed debut Echoes of the Past (2019), Brotthogg presents a new hyper charged melodic blackened thrashing beast. The band has now released the first track of the new album, Nokturne, to give you an taste of what to come.
Check it out here:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLXAA1dyamo
"With our new album we continue to improve our witches' brew of everything we consider to be the best attributes of extreme metal. We aim to offer our listeners the duality of the melodic and the aggressive, the heroic and the chaotic, the moderate and the technical, all in one fine mixture. This is black metal influenced by melodic death metal, and strongly laced with elements of thrash, and I hope we have created an ambitious and intriguing release well worth exploring.”
Brotthogg deals in Melodic Black / Death / Thrash Metal that owes its allegiance to bands like Emperor, Old Man's Child, Symphony X and Dissection. The members are known from bands like Subliritum and Chton. The name Brotthogg is derived from an old forgotten Norwegian word in dialect meaning ”The one who has to take care of the job, the unpleasant one”
Brotthogg's album The Die is Cast is now available for pre-order on their Bandcamp page.

Top-charting dark groove metal originators Devildriver recently announced the highly-anticipated release of their upcoming double album, Dealing With Demons. The first volume – entitled Dealing With Demons I – drops on October 9, 2020 via Napalm Records and marks the band’s first release of new, original material since 2016’s acclaimed Trust No One. Representing the onset of a final purging of the themes that have long possessed frontman Dez Fafara and Devildriver’s music, each track on Dealing With Demons I illustrates a different demon to be dealt with, or released.
Today, the band is following up on the release of their burgeoning latest single “Keep Away From Me” and its thought-provoking video with yet another unforgettable anthem – the menacing, mosh-ready second single "Iona". From the ominous siren at its start to its grooving verses, the track pulls no punches. The hair-raising, anthemic chorus line, “She carries a black rose…” beckons the listener again and again into a chilling ghost story! Travel the dark road into Iona's clutches via the heart-gripping music video, directed by Vicente Cordero, below.
Watch the chilling official music video for “Iona” HERE
Frontman Dez Fafara says about “Iona” and the demons that inspired the track:
"Iona is unlike any other Devildriver song we’ve put out. From the frantic verses to the haunting chorus, this song is another move forward to push our sound and the listener's ears into the fray! The chorus, “she carries a black rose, effigy from a story closed", tells the story of the long dead ghost of Iona and her obsession with death represented by the black roses in her hands – each one the soul of someone she’s taken from this life on a lonely dark road, assimilating their souls into black roses, which she carries for eternity.
This theme relates to myself and “Dealing With Demons” in that, often times, we as people have a hard time “letting go” of things. This can be applied to relationships, death, and so on. Iona carrying the black roses symbolizes her inability to move on – always seeking revenge. The past is exactly that – the past – it’s important to let go and not be stuck in a perpetual loop of living in it."
Evanescence release “The Game is Over” the second song to be taken from The Bitter Truth (RCA), their first album of new original music in nine years. The Bitter Truth will be released incrementally throughout 2020.
The iPhone-shot, neon-nightmare of a video for “The Game is Over” will go live Friday 3rd July at 12 pm ET / 5 pm UK during a live YouTube premiere featuring a fan Q&A with Amy Lee – link HERE.
A guitar-driven anthem, “The Game is Over” is a protest against the facades we are pressurized to put on by society. In the face of depression and anxiety - and especially in a world that seems to crumble further each day - it’s a cry to end the charade that everything’s fine.
The accompanying video is a nightmarish, effects-laden look at the emotional havoc that the current situation has wrought. Despite being restricted to shooting themselves on iPhones, the band, in collaboration with director P.R. Brown, managed to achieve a highly stylized production literalizing the metaphorical monsters within us. The video is astonishing proof of the creative spark of working with limited resources and a testament to the band’s commitment to its craft. Spotlighting the mental darkness behind the false smiles, it’s a disturbing, technicolour tribute to the light at the end of the tunnel - if you’re willing to face the terrors that line its walls.
Singer Amy Lee says of “The Game is Over” -
“This song is about being sick of the facade. The disguises we wear for others to make them feel comfortable, the inside feelings being so different than what we show on the outside to fit within the boundaries of what’s socially acceptable, or what’s not going to make you unpleasant or too ‘weird’ to be around.
‘The Game is Over’ is a promise to myself and out loud that I’m going to be more of my real, inner self on the outside--not lock her up because she can’t be contained any more. It’s also a prayer to become better, to not feel so messed up, locked up, and hurt inside.”
