Pop Macabre Pianist Calista Kazuko aims to beat commercialism with the release of her groundbreaking EP 'Project: Love Me'.
As the daughter of famed violinist, Paul Robertson, the high priestess of ‘Pop Macabre’, Calista Kazuko, was born into a bohemian family where classical music was a staple part of the diet. Now, the London based outré singer-songwriter and multi- instrumentalist is all about high art, high class, high gloss and high drama.
Calista Kazuko's classical roots at the Royal Academy of Music have been jettisoned, she is now carving out her own genre with a diamond-edged blade which she likes to call ‘sophistipop-noir’, perfectly and elegantly exhibited in her highly anticipated EP, Project: Love Me.
'As a full-time, unadulterated, unashamed drama queen, 'Project: Love Me' tells a story full of extravagance, opulence and of course - DRAMA!'
The collaborative producers named on the record include such music heavyweights as award winning film composer Guy Dagul, and super-producers Nuno Fernandes and Dennis Weinreich.
Calista's way with a grand piano, story-telling songwriting and sophisticated performance style blend together into a dry, heady cocktail that will leave your emotions exposed and giddy. She's not so much lightning in a bottle as the conjuror of the storm.
Weezer drop new song “Weekend Woman”; 'Pacific Daydream' out 27th October 27 via Crush Music / Atlantic Records
Weezer have released another taste of their forthcoming eleventh album, Pacific Daydream, released on Crush Music/Atlantic Records on October 27th, 2017. The song - a sunlight-tinted, retro-glorious track called “Weekend Woman” - can be heard HERE. “Weekend Woman” follows the release of two other Pacific Daydream standout songs - “Mexican Fender” and “Beach Boys” - as well as the album’s massive first single, “Feels Like Summer,” which hit #1 at Alternative Radio.
Produced by Butch Walker, Pacific Daydream is the follow up to the critically acclaimed album Weezer (The White Album), which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album at the end of last year.
Following the release of Weezer (The White Album), the band began working on what they called “The Black Album,” but as they worked, they found the songs they were writing felt more like reveries from a beach at the end of the world. Instead of forcing a different direction, they began an entirely new album; Pacific Daydream was born. Frontman Rivers Cuomo brings this decision back to a Chinese proverb he says inspired the design behind the entire record:
Once upon a time, I, Chuang Chou, dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was Chou. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.
Pacific Daydream - an album full of the melodic mastery and craftsmanship for which Weezer are known - is a record that navigates the uncertainty between reality and dreams, blurring the line between the listener knowing if they are daydreaming the world of the album, or if the world of the album is daydreaming them. It’s a record about finding the grey area between the black and the white, about escaping the everyday into the fantasy of what may be just down the line, but also maybe isn’t. It’s an album that sounds like the Beach Boys and The Clash fell in love by the ocean and had one hell of an amazing baby. It’s Weezer doing all the things they do best and then some.
