Following their announcement of an extensive North American tour for 2016, the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Goo Goo Dolls have unveiled details of their upcoming new album ‘Boxes’, via Warner Bros. Records. The CD and digital will arrive on May 6th, with the vinyl version following on June 10th. The first song from the album Over and Over is available now as an instant grat when you preorder 'Boxes' on iTunes here.
With the goal of pushing himself past his comfort zone, Rzeznik enlisted some of his favourite songwriters and producers to collaborate with including Gregg Wattenberg (with whom Rzeznik wrote four songs on the Goos’ 2013 album Magnetic), Wattenberg’s production partner Derek Fuhrmann, and Drew Pearson (who has worked with Phillip Phillips and OneRepublic).
Although Rzeznik is thankful for the band’s sustained success
“I'm grateful for the enormous shadow that ‘Iris’ cast because it gave me a life, it gave me a career”, he is not one to revel in past glories and prefers to keep looking forward. “When it came time to make ‘Boxes’, I really tried to give up my preconceived notions of what the hell was expected of me,” he says. “I was impeding my own growth by not opening myself up to collaboration before. But when you allow other people's ideas in and you share willingly, everything grows exponentially. None of these songs would have existed if I had maintained a defensive stance.”
Goo Goo Dolls are one of the most globally respected and influential forces in popular music, selling more than 12 million albums since 1986. They have scored 14 Top 10 radio hits (more than any other artist in the history of the Hot AC format), including "Name," "Slide," and "Iris," the latter spending nearly 12 straight months on the Billboard charts and holding the No. 1 position for 17 consecutive weeks. The band has toured the globe countless times, performed in front of millions of fans, received numerous awards (including four Grammy nominations), and recorded and released ten studio albums, with Boxes to be their 11th. Rzeznik has also been honored with the Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award.
