 Depeche Mode, one of modern music’s most influential artists, announced yesterday at a special event in Milan that they will be embarking on a world tour in May 2017 to support their new studio album, Spirit, due to be released in early 2017. Following the release of the album, the Global Spirit Tour will provide lifelong fans and new fans alike with an opportunity to see the band’s ground-breaking and intensely emotive shows. The first leg of the Global Spirit Tour will see Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher play to more than 1.5 million fans in 32 cities in 21 countries across Europe. The tour starts at Stockholm’s Friends Arena on May 5th 2017, and the band will play fan-favourite venues including Paris’ Stade de France, San Siro in Milan, and Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Additional tour stops include new stadiums for the band such as London Stadium on June 3rd 2017, Otkritie Arena in Moscow, and Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Spirit will be the musical pioneers’ 14th studio album and the follow-up to 2013’s critically acclaimed Delta Machine, which reached a top five chart position in 26 countries and the number one position in 12 countries. Spirit is being produced by James Ford, founding member of the band Simian Mobile Disco, whose recent production work includes albums by Florence and the Machine and Arctic Monkeys. Spirit will be released in early 2017 via Columbia Records worldwide. The band’s last tour, the Delta Machine Tour, played to over 2.5 million fans at sold-out shows across Europe and North America and was one of 2013’s largest and best selling tours.  Enter Shikari have unveiled a live video for recent single ‘Redshift’, recorded at the bands biggest headline show to date at London’s Alexandra Palace. You can view the video here: https://youtu.be/frj7IR0sMww Whilst plans were afoot to release the whole show visually in some way or another, technology had other ideas; and so the band members jumped in to salvage what they could, in the DIY fashion that has become their stock-in-trade. We’ll let frontman Rou Reynolds elaborate : “After such a spectacle, we decided to cobble together and edit the footage from the jumbotrons on the night. Unfortunately a lot of the crowd footage was warped and unusable, but we were only able to put together one great track rather a whole show, but we hope this'll give you's an idea of the energy on the night. As I edited the video, Rory and our engineer / foxy hunk Tim Morris edited the audio too. Being such a DIY tour - programming the video screen content and 4.1 surround sound mix ourselves, for example - it seems only right and proper that we apply that approach to the documentation of the show too. Victory snatched from the jaws of defeat, and all that”. Full audio from the show does, however, exist. It is currently at mixing stage and will move into the “what are we doing with it now we have it?” stage very soon. Enter Shikari are spending the summer appearing at various European festivals (including a one-off 5000 capacity outdoor headline show in Budapest, Hungary), and will end their working year with tours of Japan & Australia, while demoing new material filling in the gaps in the diary. See below for details—with more to be announced. Bell says of the track, "'ATA' was inspired by a 1958 Frank O'Hara poem called 'A True Account of Talking to the Sun at Fire Island.' It's filled with wordless instrumental stretches—space for thoughts to congeal, to clarify. Some elements of the beat were inspired by the Art Of Noise classic 'Moments In Love' (the snaps especially), and the wormy synth bass of the verses transforms into a high, bright lead when the sun finally speaks, in the middle of the song ('baby it's tough! but don't get low / our work is humble / daily I rise, daily you write')." The first single from the album, "Randomness," recently received a "Best New Track" designation at Pitchfork after it was premiered by Dummy, who described the house-influenced track as "the fuel of self-manifestation." The Minister Akins-directed video premiered at i-D, who called the video "fire" and said of the track, "if you're anything like us, you've probably had [it] stuck in your head since it surfaced earlier this month." "This record is first for the body, then for the mind," says Bell, who began writing the album immediately after seeing the film Paris Is Burning. "I started every song by thinking about tempo specifically, listening to the metronome alone, feeling its relation to my body, to the pace of the day, the weather, the light.
