Paloma Faith releases details of her new album & London show; drops 'Crybaby' music video

Paloma Faith – one of only two British female artists this decade to have their last three albums go double platinum in the UK – will release her long-awaited fourth album, ‘The Architect’, on November 17 via RCA Records.

The new album – her first in more than three years and since giving birth to her first child – features an array of acclaimed co-writers, producers and collaborators including: Sia, John Legend, Jesse Shatkin, TMS, Starsmith, Tobias Jesso Jr., Eg White, Rag'n'Bone Man, actor Samuel L. Jackson and journalist and activist Owen Jones.

Paloma, who won the BRIT Award for British Female Solo Artist in 2015 following the phenomenal success of her last record, 2014’s ‘A Perfect Contradiction’, explores both personal and political themes on the album.

Whilst the music is classic Paloma – with sweeping orchestral tracks, smooth soul, sleek disco grooves and stomping electro pop all featured on the album – the lyrics raise social and political questions, and cover powerful and topical themes, such as motherhood, social anxiety, wealth inequality, technology’s impact on feelings of alienation…. oh and also the future of the Western world, Donald Trump, Brexit and the refugee crisis – all within the confines of classic pop.

11. Lost and Lonely
12. Still Around
13. Pawns ft. Baby N’Sola, Janelle Martin & Naomi Miller

A deluxe version of the album will include four bonus tracks -

16. Power to the Peaceful
17. Tonight’s Not the Only Night
18. My Body
19. Price of Fame

Title track ‘The Architect’ features - if you can imagine it – Paloma as Mother Nature, singing to humanity, while ‘Guilty’ reflects on the Brexit vote from the perspective of a Leave voter who regrets their choice. Lead single ‘Crybaby’ ponders whether war would cease to exist if men successfully dealt with their emotions, and ‘Lost and Lonely’ is sung from the viewpoint of a skeleton!

The album also includes the track ‘Warrior’ written by Sia, which Paloma interprets to be about the refugee crisis, a duet with John Legend, ‘I’ll Be Gentle’, and two spoken word interludes – album opener ‘Evolution’ which is performed by acclaimed actor Samuel L. Jackson and ‘Politics of Hope’ which is a political commentary by Owen Jones. String arrangements on ‘The Architect’, ‘Warrior’ and ‘I’ll Be Gentle’ were written by David Arnold, the celebrated film and TV composer best known for his work on James Bond and Sherlock.

Paloma said: “‘The Architect’ is a social observation record. I was adamant that I wouldn’t write about love. I wanted to look outside of myself. I’m coming at politics from the perspective of the common man or woman, observing why people are suffering. Each song on the record is about a different pocket of the socio-political world that I’ve been delving into.”

She added: “I wanted to write something more modern. On previous albums I’ve been more concerned with the past, but now I’m looking forward because of motherhood and wanting to change things for a better future. It’s a marriage of old and new.”

Today Paloma releases the video for first single, ‘Crybaby’ – watch here. The dystopian video, which is directed by Thomas James and was shot in Ukraine, opens with footage of IVF, a newborn baby and a young girl, before a man addresses a group of uniformed young people, including the girl, in a human factory. He gives a speech about qualities such as emotion, empathy and feeling, which he says are “for the weak, for those we leave behind, for those that we remove from the crop.” The rest of video features Paloma as one of the people in the institution as she encounters the brutal training of the people imprisoned.

‘The Architect’ follows the huge success of Paloma’s last album, ‘A Perfect Contradiction’, which spent 29 weeks in the Top 10 Albums Chart, 66 weeks in the Top 40, and 100 weeks in the Top 200. The epic lead single from the record, ‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’, is Paloma’s biggest-selling to date, with over half a million copies sold and 55 million streams on Spotify.

Miley Cyrus’ sixth studio album Younger Now will be released September 29 via RCA Records and is available for pre-order now at all digital retail providers. Today, she has revealed a fourth track from the collection, “Week Without You,” lyrics written by Miley Cyrus, with music written and produced by Miley Cyrus and Oren Yoel. The track will be available as instant-grat upon album pre-order along with previously released tracks “Malibu,” “Inspired,” and “Younger Now.”

Younger Now is by no means a reinvention, but more a continuation. As the title-track expresses, “No one stays the same.” Cyrus has always been true to herself on her creative journey and has shared her life and experiences with fans through her artistry. Her prior albums were a direct reflection of her unapologetic self, and uncompromising vision of her music. And with Younger Now, Cyrus took the full creative reigns with an intention to share a piece of herself, unlike before. She wrote every lyric, co-wrote the music, and co-produced the album.

“This writing process has been a really different experience because I’ve never put out an album this way,” Cyrus admits. “People have been asking me, ‘is this like a re-introduction of yourself?’ But it’s not that at all. Actually, it’s more like, I am this person who embraces all my past selves. This album is the most me for right now that I can be.”

Cyrus recently invited BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to her Rainbowland studio for a special performance that included “Malibu” and “Younger Now,” as well as fan favorites “Party In The U.S.A.” and “See You Again,” which is currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary. Cyrus showcased her vocal prowess and country-tinged roots, and chose Roberta Flack’s classic ballad “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” as her cover.

Following the release of title track “Younger Now,” Forbes noted, “Miley Cyrus … puts down the synths and the production software and allows real instruments to do the heavy lifting.” Rolling Stone wrote, “Both the single and video find Cyrus balancing her pop and newfound country instincts, with the singer emulating country legends like Johnny Cash, Porter Wagoner and Elvis Presley.”
Miley Cyrus is a singer-songwriter, actress, artist and philanthropist. With five #1 albums including her 2013 GRAMMY-nominated album Bangerz, which went Platinum in the U.S., five sold out world tours and almost 30 million tracks sold, Cyrus is one of the most influential artists in pop culture. Most recently she showcased her artistic vision on her independent album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz. She is one of the most searched artists in Internet history with over 160 million digital platform subscribers and over 3 billion video views.

In addition to her success in music and television, Cyrus founded the non-profit organization The Happy Hippie Foundation to rally young people to fight injustice. Since launching, the foundation has provided direct support to thousands of homeless and LGBTQ youth across the country. In 2015, amfAR honored Cyrus’ fight against HIV/AIDS with its Award of Inspiration and the Los Angeles LGBT Center honored her work on behalf of LGBT youth with its Vanguard Award. Most recently, Cyrus has been honored with Variety’s 2016 Power of Women award for all her philanthropic efforts.

The votes are in, and the multi-award winning girl group, Little Mix, have been crowned the winners! Little Mix will take the Best Live Act Award, sponsored by Ticketmaster and Live Nation, at today’s O2 Silver Clef Awards.

The only award voted for by the public at the O2 Silver Clef Awards, ‘Mixers’ proved their dedication to give the band the title of Best Live Act, fighting off fierce competition from the likes of Beyoncé, Coldplay, Stormzy and Take That. The group received over 50% of the total vote, making the girls clear champions, who will now sit alongside previous winners such as One Direction (2016 & 2013), Arctic Monkeys (2015), and Sir Paul McCartney (2011).

On their win, Little Mix said: “We can’t thank our fans enough for awarding us with the Best Live Act! To win in such company as these nominees, and be the first female act to take home the award is an incredibly proud moment for us. We have so much respect for Nordoff Robbins and the work that they do, it is such a wonderful charity. We really are so honoured to receive this award at the O2 Silver Clefs today.”

The Best Live Act winners are currently on their arena tour, which will see them play 60 shows across Europe, Australia and Asia, selling over 500k tickets. They are now chart-topping, with four UK number one singles, and have over one billion YouTube and Vevo views worldwide. The band received the Best British Single honour at the Brit Awards this year. Their debut album DNA, reached the top ten in ten countries, smashing a record the Spice Girls held for almost two decades.

Andrew Parsons, MD Ticketmaster UK says, “Ticket selling phenomenon Little Mix made history by becoming the first and only group to win the X Factor, and thanks to their loyal fans, they are now the first female act to win the Best Live Act award. It was great to see the band make the shortlist for the second year in a row, and winning the award is thoroughly deserved.”

Fans voted for the shortlist of ten artists, who performed in the UK between March 2016 and March 2017, handpicked by a panel of music industry experts. The nominated artists were:

Beyoncé
Bruce Springsteen
Christine and The Queens
Coldplay
Iron Maiden
Little Mix
Melanie Martinez
Shawn Mendes

Fans who voted either via the Ticketmaster website or with the relevant hashtag on Twitter, were automatically entered to win a unique portrait of their favourite live act. The lucky fan will receive the attached painting by Instagram artist Will Thompson.

Little Mix have thanked fans via a video posted here: http://bit.ly/2tnr435

The Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards will be held tomorrow, Friday, 30th June.
