Maria co-produced In The Next Life alongside Nik Freitas (Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band), which features guest vocals from Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Joshua Radin, Macey Taylor (Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, Jenny Lewis, AA Bondy), Jake Bellows (Neva Dinova), Louis Schefano (Remy Zero, Suspicious Light), Morgan Nagler (Whispertown), and Tiffany Osborn. Andy LeMaster and Mike Bloom lent their creative chops as well, mixing several tracks on the album.
 
After putting out four full-length albums and two EPs as one half of Azure Ray (with co-vocalist Orenda Fink) and lending her voice, piano and drumming skills on numerous Bright Eyes records, Maria announced her solo career in 2005 - a change that would pave the way for five critically acclaimed albums and collaborations with renowned artists such as Jim Eno (Spoon), Michael Stipe (R.E.M.), Moby, Doug Easley (Cat Power, Pavement), David Barbe (Sugar, Drive-By Truckers, Son Volt) and Crooked Fingers. As a performer, Maria has shared the stage with Ben Lee, Josh Rouse, Joshua Radin, Jason Isbell, Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and more. Over the years, fans have heard her music on TV shows such as Unforgettable, Suburgatory, Private Practice, Bones, Grey's Anatomy, Greek and One Tree Hill.

Meet 21 year old star in the making, Tyni – a  singer-songwriter, but no winsome girl perched on a stool with an acoustic guitar. Describing her music as being “like jumping into my very own Wonderland where each song's a different chapter of my very own fairytale” Tyni’s singing, and song-writing, is state of the art pop music.


Fighter is the first track to be released from Tyni’s forthcoming debut EP of the same name. Alongside the atmospheric, glitchy title track and its remix by Frank Ocean collaborator Troy Noka, the Fighter EP will feature the XCX-ecque synth banger Touch Me and the elegantly sparse Cherrytrees. These songs are the result of Tyni having spent the last few years between LA, London and her home town of Sheffield, recording with the likes of Wayne Wilkins (Beyoncé, Jordin Sparks), MNEK (Zara Larsson, Little Mix), Sophie (Charlie XCX, Madonna) and Britney collaborator Ana Diaz, all of whom have provided the perfect foil for Tyni’s nuanced balance of style and substance.


Tyni grew up in Woodhouse, a small village in Sheffield, with her pharmacist technician mum, gas man dad, and elder sister. School was hard work, “To be blunt, some girls wanted to beat me up.” she says. “Was it the fact I had a unicorn on my bag? I don’t know. I wasn’t quite like everybody else.”. Rather than withdraw into herself or confirm to fit in, Tyni decided to ignore it, continue going about things in her own way and on her own terms and throw herself head-first into her life-long passion of music.


By the age of 9, Tyni was signed up at Sheffield’s Joy Reynolds theatre school. A music industry showcase followed some years later. It was themed around one of Tyni’s other passions – horror films. Present that day was a manager who’d worked with the likes of Lily Allen and Estelle. She saw something in Tyni and introduced her to Wayne Wilkins.  There’s not much Wilkins doesn’t know about the diversity of female pop talents out there, and with Tyni he’d found his muse.


Now here we are in 2017, and Tyni’s unicorn bag is stuffed with irresistible, original but accessible pop songs that establish her as an exciting, innovative new artist. Fighter is available to download at iTunes and stream across all platforms.

British firebrand singer-songwriter Louise Distras will release her brand new single “Aileen” on the 30th of September 2016. The song will be Distras’ first new music since the release of her critically acclaimed 2013 debut album “Dreams from the Factory Floor”.

Produced by “Dreams from the Factory Floor” producer Steve Whale (The Business) and mixed by Ross Petersen (Bruce Springsteen, The Vamps, John Mayer), “Aileen” represents real musical growth and a sonic shift for Louise, being an impassioned radio anthem that steps away from the punk and protest tags of her past and into powerpop territory. Nevertheless, the pop-friendly hooks house an intense emotional core.

Lyrically “Aileen” is a hard-hitting dancefloor track that explores the dark story of ‘America’s first female serial killer’ Aileen Wuornos. It’s a song that sees Distras questioning rape culture and the sanctity of life. Having already been championed by Kerrang Radio, Radio X and Radio 1, 'Aileen' is living proof – if ever it was needed – that pop music does not have to mean ‘dumbed-down’ or ‘throwaway.’

          "One night after a show I watched the Nick Broomfield documentary 'Selling of a Serial Killer', which is about 'America's first female serial killer', Aileen Wuornos. As someone who has experienced homelessness and sexual assault, Aileen's story hit me pretty hard but left me feeling inspired to share it through my music. The film also left me with my own questions about rape culture and the idea of nature VS nurture, so I decided to make my own DIY film that explores the lyrical content of the single. It's called 'Real Outlaw – A Commentary on Rape Culture and the Riot Grrrl Movement' and it's available via scanning a QR code that's printed on the back of the CD and also on tour posters across the UK."

“Giulia sta bene”, the first full length of the Italian lo-fi songwriter Giulia Calì, published by Red Cat Records, will be available from Friday 10 June 2016.

“Giulia sta bene” rises from the simplicity of a guitar and a voice; its all 11 original songs are song acoustically. “Giulia sta bene” tries to bring again the songs to its minimal aspect, giving more importance to the words, thanks to Italian and English lyrics.

The singer has treated various themes, which, at the same time, are joined by an introspective journey of searching for oneself, and by awareness of the strength and fragility, which defines us as people.

Red Cat Records is very proud to announce the brand new partnership with the artist Giulia Calì and the incoming release of their second album “Giulia sta bene” on June 2016.

Giulia Calì, a Florentine singer-songwriter, was born on 25th February 1993. At 11 years old she started studying and teaching herself guitar and consequently wrote her first songs.

In 2012, she started up her YouTube Channel, where she covered songs of the most famous singers; her videos were listened to / watched about 100,000 times in 3 years.

In 2013, Giulia debuted with her first self-made album “VOLA”, which is composed of 6 original songs and one acoustic version; this album can be downloaded from iTunes and other digital stores.

In 2014, she took part in the Sofar Sounds Florence; there the first songs from her new album were played for the first time.

In 2015, she joined the group “Pulse” as singer and co-author of lyrics, until today they have produced an EP.

In 2016, she received financing from Regione Toscana thanks to Toscana100band, thus her second album “Giulia sta bene” was released, after signing to the record label, Red Cat.
