Recently signed to Polydor, Ed Harcourt returns with his seventh album Furnaces (out August 19th 2016), the most ambitious and abrasive album of his career. On Sunday evening, the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show premiered ‘Dionysus’ - the first taste from Furnaces. The gnarled track is available now, alongside the apocalyptic paean ‘The World is on Fire’. Furnaces was produced by legendary producer Flood, a long-time ally of Ed, who has previously worked with the likes of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey and Foals. The result is an album that, for all its fire and brimstone, is also euphoric and celebratory. “I wanted to make a record that people can cry, f**k and fight to” says Ed. “I don’t think there are many records out like that at the moment, but all my favourite records have that, whether it’s Prince or Nine Inch Nails. I hadn’t made a record before that has this kind of danger to it.” Fittingly, the album’s artwork was created by the legendary Gonzo artist and Hunter S Thompson collaborator Ralph Steadman. “It’s a dream come true,” says Ed. Throughout the album Ed plays guitar, bass, drums, piano, synths and assortment of other trinkets - often playing everything you hear! On some tracks, he was joined by his dream line-up: drummer Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint, bassist Tom Herbert of The Invisible & Polar Bear, vocalist Hannah Lou Clark, and percussionist Michael Blair, a frequent Tom Waits collaborator. Ed Harcourt has enjoyed a truly unique career as a songwriter, producer and musician. Recently, he’s played piano at major festivals with the Libertines, toured as part of Marianne Faithfull‘s band and served as Musical Director for Beck’s Songbook shows at the Barbican. He has released six critically acclaimed albums to date, and wrote and performed ‘The Way That I Live’, the soundtrack to Burberry’s 2014/15 festive campaign, which has garnered over 25 million views and 1 million streams. Alongside his own output, Ed is a prolific songwriter and producer writing for artists including James Bay and Paloma Faith; and producing for Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Kathryn Williams. ‘Furnaces’ Full Tracklisting: Intro The World Is On Fire Loup Garou Furnaces Occupational Hazard Nothing But A Bad Trip You Give Me More Than Love Dionysus There Is A Light Below Last Of Your Kind Immoral Antartica Ed Harcourt live dates: Wed 21st September LONDON, Village Underground www.edharcourt.com

Fiery British modern rock quartet Skarlett Riot release their powerful new single ‘The Wounded’ on September 5th Taken from their acclaimed ‘Sentience’ EP, ‘The Wounded’ is a dark and brooding but hugely melodic modern rock track, driven by Danny’s taut guitar lines ‘The Wounded’ is the perfect combination of melody and power, with the exceptional vocals of front woman Skarlett to the fore. With the commanding presence of Skarlett at the helm, her powerful and incredibly versatile voice defines Skarlett Riot’s sound and ensures they remain a cut above the rest. Musically the band are exploring a heavier avenue than before; taut guitar lines bolstered by thunderous drums but all the while remembering the hooks and melodies that seen this band grow into one of the UK’s finest young bands. The 12-track album was recorded in Miami with the same gathering of accomplished musicians Barry assembled for his acclaimed 2014 solo tour. In signing with Columbia Records for the first time in his career, Barry stated: “This is a new chapter in my life. I always hoped one day that The Bee Gees would be with Columbia or indeed Sony, so it’s a great joy for me to start again this way with such great people” As a record producer / songwriter, Barry has been instrumental in creating milestones for other artists, ranging from Barbra Streisand’s ‘Guilty’ album to Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers country record ‘Islands In The Stream’ also, Diana Ross ‘Eaten Alive featuring ‘Chain Reaction’ as well as Dionne Warwick’s ‘Heartbreaker’ album. Between Robin, Maurice and Andy, the Gibb brothers achieved 19 number one records on the Billboard charts including a phenomenal 6 in a row, equalling The Beatles record. “I will never forget my brothers; they will always be a part of everything I do. Our dream came true.” Barry returned to live performing in 2013-2014 with the Mythology Tour, celebrating the Bee Gees anthology release of the same name as a tribute to his three brothers. It’s about her own return to contentedness in London. “In Britain, in the summer you let go of the stuff on your shoulders and go, Fuck it, I’m gonna get on this banana boat. Go crazyyyyy!’” The video for ‘Good Summer’, directed by Lee Jones and shot in her mum’s garden features all her best girl friends. A lot has happened to Nash, a BRIT school graduate, since the release of her #1 record and Brit-Award gleaning debut ‘Made Of Bricks’ back in 2007 - failed relationships, record label fall-outs, punk record releases, a relocation to the other side of the world... And so it’s wonderful that the singer-songwriter, activist and heroic spirit is here today, possessed of an impervious rebellion and a lightness of being that makes her ‘give-a-fuck?’ honesty even more contagious. Everything seems to be coming full circle.. |
