We’re now past the halfway point to Bloodstock with 20 weekends left before the UK’s best metal weekender! As a result seven more bands have been announced!

Anthemic black metallers WINTERFYLLETH join the main stage fray. Their fifth album ‘The Dark Hereafter’ was released last October by Candlelight Records / Spinefarm. Check out the epic tracks via BandCamp at https://winterfylleth.bandcamp.com/ and then catch the latest news over at
www.facebook.com/Winterfylleth.

Also being revealed are a handful of bands for the Sophie Lancaster stage. DENDERA bring their classic metal to BLOODSTOCK for a Friday slot. The band have their third studio album set for release this year, so expect new material!  Watch their video for ‘Claim Our Throne’ for a taster of
their sound - https://youtu.be/V0bk7cdBsKI.  For more on DENDERA, check out www.dendera.co.uk or www.facebook.com/denderauk.

Saturday sees doomsters KROH join the Sophie bill. KROH is the brainchild of Paul Kenney, founder member of both Mistress and Fukpig. Go watch their video for ‘Mother Serpent’ over at https://youtu.be/gYLvHoMnI0s and get the latest on the band on Facebook at www.facebook.com/XKrohX.

Also landing a Saturday slot are ABHORRENT DECIMATION, whose ‘Miasmic Mutation’ album was lauded by Metal Hammer as “one of 2015’s must-have death metal records”. Check out ‘Glaciate The Servants’ from that disc - https://youtu.be/hAbJmQSOvGU - and get more info over at
www.abhorrentdecimation.com or www.facebook.com/abhorrentdecimation.

Bagging a Sunday slot are British experimental metal squad, BOSSK. The band built their name via a series of EPs and touring with the likes of Cult Of Luna, Textures, and Baroness, and are now signed to Deathwish Inc. Their debut studio album ‘Audio Noir’ was released last year. If that sounds like your thing, investigate further at  www.bosskonline.com or www.facebook.com/bosskonline.

We also welcome doompop outfit, COURTESANS to the Sunday bill. The band say, “To perform at BLOODSTOCK is incredible exciting. It’s a huge honour to play the Sophie Lancaster Stage, her legacy is at the heart of our ethics. We’re advocates of equality and have a zero tolerance to any form
of prejudice. We hope to raise a few eyebrows and stir some shit up!”
Their new EP ‘Better Safe Than Sober’ comes out this month. Watch the video for ‘Mesmerise’ at:
https://youtu.be/6ZstRAEkWJs
and find out more at www.facebook.com/thecourtesans.

Rounding out Sunday’s additions are Brit crew, WRETCHED SOUL. Described by Zero Tolerance as "refreshingly difficult to categorise", Terrorizer had a go and called them, "one of the UK's most promising underground Thrash bands."  WRETCHED SOUL's savage second album ‘The Ghost Road’ was released in December through UKEM Records. Have a listen on YouTube via

and learn more at www.facebook.com/wretchedsoul.

Celestial Wish announced as last band to be added to Northern Symphony 2017

12/3/2017

Picture

Northern Symphony is the UK's premier symphonic metal event that actively supports the UK's symphonic metal talent. Starting in 2015, the festival has featured bands from all across the UK, including Winter In Eden, Old Corpse Road, Apparition and more as well as the odd band or two from Europe.

With just over a month until the third edition of the event, Birmingham based outfit Celestial Wish have been added to the billing as main support to co-headliners Dakesis and Control The Storm. The band commented: "It's amazing to be playing Northern Symphony with so many great bands!"

Celestial Wish are a Birmingham-based Symphonic Metal act currently consisting of; Frontwoman Saneeta Ram, guitarist and orchestral composer Daniel Carpenter, violist Eileen Smith and bassist Fraser Banks. Their sound is characterised by the use of powerful orchestration, enchanting synths, soaring vocals, heavy riffs and blistering solos, which all come together to form a sound that takes the listener into their own personal dreamland, where each Celestial Wish comes true, and anything is possible.

Celestial Wish are heavily influenced by bands such as Nightwish, Kamelot, Avantasia, Within Temptation, Evanescence and Sonata Arctica, however, their list of influences goes far beyond the Metal genre, including such composers as Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Schwarz and Danny Elfman. All of these inspirations have come together to form a powerful sound that one might describe as majestic, or epic.

Northern Symphony Festival takes place on Saturday 15th April at The Veneu in Selby, North Yorkshire and will feature Dakesis, Control The Storm, Celestial Wish, Dead of Night, Scottish metallers The Fall of Eve, Anglo-Graeco unit Synthetic, Welsh metal band Prophecy and newcomers Sorrow's End.

Tickets for Northern Symphony Festival can be purchased at this location for £8.

Heartagram no more, 'Love Metallers' HIM announce farewell tour

6/3/2017

Picture

Following a long radio silence, Finnish rock giants HIM have announced a farewell tour, closing the final chapter on their 26 year career.

"After quarter of a century of Love and Metal intertwined we sincerely feel HIM has run its unnatural course and adieus must be said in order to make way for sights, scents and sounds yet unexplored. We completed the pattern, solved the puzzle and turned the key. Thank you." says frontman Ville Valo

Formed in 1991 by vocalist Ville Valo, guitarist Mikko “Linde” Lindström and bassist Mikko "Migé" Paananen, HIM truly stand out as one of the rock world’s most unique acts. Beautifully blending metal, goth and hard rock with deep, thoughtful and moving lyrics, HIM offered the world a new take on the metal genre, which became known as Love Metal (also the title of their fourth album).

Over the course of eight studio albums, HIM captured the hearts and minds of fans across the globe, drawn by their irresistible and inimitable style. Under the banner of their Heartagram logo – a potent symbol encapsulating the juxtaposition of the light and dark, the fierce and forlorn, and the evil and love found in their music - HIM filled venues and crashed charts the world over, collecting numerous awards, gracing countless magazine covers and becoming the first Finnish act to achieve Gold status in the USA.

Now, four years after the release of their last studio album ‘Tears On Tape’, HIM are saying farewell, taking in 14 countries across 35 shows for their final goodbye.

"At the end of 2017 we will be released into the wild.” says bassist Mige. “Before this event of great transformation we would love to offer you one last chance to experience our live performances in His Majesty's service. It shall not be a weep-fest but a celebration of love metal in all its lovecraftian glory! See you there!"

Award-winning Chinese classical internet sensation Sunny Li set for UK tour

4/3/2017

Picture

The controversial Chinese pianist, Sunny Li, who caused a social media storm amongst the normally sedate Classic FM online community when ‘training’ videos of her  playing two grand pianos went viral with over a million views , sparking admiration and outrage in equal measure, is embarking on a UK tour this spring in line with the release of her new album.

Watch the video here: https://www.facebook.com/ClassicFM/videos/10154894757289260/

Whilst many of the comments on the video were complimentary, others took the form of what some may consider a sexist tirade due to the seemingly provocative style Sunny had to adopt when performing the ‘double grand work out’. The comments deeply affected the young pianist who had never experienced such attention in her homeland of China.

Sunny stated that she ‘wasn’t expecting a lot of views’ as the video was meant to be just for fun, as a way of displaying one of her piano workout methods, but some of the comments left her feeling confused and upset. Despite this, Li feels strongly about equality and encouraging people to play the piano. She added ‘There is no reason why women can’t play like men, they are just as equal. It’s the modern day – sometimes women are even better than the men!’

To add insult to injury, Sunny, who is a strong advocate of getting young people into classical music, believes that the musical genre is potentially on the verge of becoming extinct and therefore feels that the passionate side of classical music needs to truly compete with its pop music counterparts. Consequently, talent needs to go hand in hand with style and fashion in order to reach a younger ‘streetwise’ audience. She has compared classical music to ‘a very meaningful book that is close to the soul’ and it is this idea that she wants to push forward to young people in the hope that they might give classical music a chance.

Sunny is combating her detractors with these empowering standpoints and intends to show them just how passionate she is to spread the classical message with her upcoming tour of the UK this year. Having won many awards in China for her art as well as being a brand ambassador for the leading UK piano company, www.pianorestorations.co.uk , Sunny is also in the running to become a ‘Young Steinway Artist’, a highly sought after distinction that may well see her endorsed by the piano manufacturing giants.
