Bloodstock festival launches M2TM 2023 across the UK & Ireland

It’s that time again already, when Bloodstock kicks off its grass roots-supporting ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ scheme, which gives unsigned and DIY bands the chance of being part of the Bloodstock  festival experience.

M2TM 2022 was without doubt the biggest Bloodstock New Blood initiative to date and the festival managed to capture the bands, the fans, and grab a chat with a few of the promoters hosting the events, alongside chief M2TM organiser Simon Hall. Check out the ‘Highway To Bloodstock’ video below and get a handle on another phenomenally successful year for the initiative.

Plans are already locked with many local promoters and Bloodstock is set to track down the hottest new metal talent in the land, who’ll grab themselves slots on the New Blood stage across festival weekend in August 2023. 21 regions are secured so far, with more locations expected to be added in due course. See the full list of participating regions to date at the top, and if you’re in a self-released or unsigned band and want to try out for a slot on the Bloodstock bill, get in touch with the event nearest you and get yourselves involved!  One winner from each region will secure themselves a slot on the New Blood stage and some of the very best runners-up may also get lucky, space permitting.

Bands should get their applications into their nearest regional promoter ASAP, as heats kick off in the coming weeks. Any local promoters in regions not yet represented can email Simon Hall ([email protected]) for information if they wish to host the scheme in their local area.

Full details of venues and who to contact to enter in each region, can be found here or on  Facebook.

Bloodstock will take place at Catton Park, Derbyshire on 10th-13th August 2023. For more info, click to www.bloodstock.uk.com.

Bloodstock reveals more Thursday acts, exclusive to weekend ticket holders

30/1/2020

Are you a Bloodstock regular? Perhaps you’re thinking of coming for the first time, or you’ve tested the waters before with a day ticket just to see what you think? Bloodstock weekend ticket holders don’t just get three days of heavy metal glory, they get four!  While day tickets can be purchased closer to the event for Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday, Bloodstock starts the party on Thursday, exclusively for weekend ticket holders!  Get your tent pitched, grab your mates, and head over to the Planet Rock presents...Sophie Lancaster stage for a jam-packed evening of heavy metal fun.

Back in December, Bloodstock revealed that Swedish hard rockers The Night Flight Orchestra are set to headline Thursday’s opening night party. The Nuclear Blast-signed band, who feature members of Soilwork and Arch Enemy in their ranks, are promising new songs in 2020, but meanwhile, check out ‘This Time’ from current release, ‘Sometimes The World Ain’t Enough’ here.

Bloodstock is thrilled to announce that they’ll be joined on the bill by these four bands…

Firstly, the irrepressible goblin kings, NEKROGOBLIKON. Hailing from California, the group released latest album ‘Welcome To Bonkers’ in 2018, featuring the track ‘Dressed As Goblins’ - watch the video for it here. If that’s not enough goblin for you, browse the rest of their Nekrogoblitude, and if you want to dress up especially for their set, who are we to stop you?!  Be sure to get your photo snapped by our roving official photographers if you do!

Northern Irish death/doom merchants THE CRAWLING are also added to Thursday’s line-up. Citing influences such as Paradise Lost, Marduk, Katatonia, and Bolt Thrower, this stripped back, dark three piece will bring all the heavy. Get familiar via the video for ‘Still No Sun’ here, taken from their album ‘Wolves And The Hideous White’.

Derby-based grind squad RAISED BY OWLS are looking forward to adding their brand of extreme metal to Thursday’s headbangin’ shenanigans, promising a no-holds-barred aural assault with a hefty dose of sardonic humour.  You only have to check out the video for their Christmas charity single ‘The Santanist’ here (proceeds going to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation), to get a flavour of what’s in store.

Also joining the fray, are last year’s Bournemouth Metal 2 The Masses victors ANAKIM, offering up a choice blend of progressive black/death metal to get your weekend started. Check out that live set, including the single ‘Born Of The Serpents Tongue’, filmed at Bloodstock, here.  Their album, ‘Monuments To Departed Worlds’, is out now.

And that’s just the bands! There’s a host of other entertainment planned too, sure to kick off your weekend in glorious style. Don’t miss out!

Already got your weekend ticket? Started planning your travel yet? Don’t forget that BIG GREEN COACH picks up from 33 different locations across the country (with new cities added), very conveniently dropping you, your mates and all your camping gear, right inside the festival grounds. It’s good for your green credentials too!  For more info or to book your spot, head over to their site here.

For those of you interested in working at BLOODSTOCK as your means to attend, FESTAFF begin their volunteer recruitment drive from February 1. To get all the details on what that entails and to apply, go here.

BLOODSTOCK’s very popular ticket deposit scheme is now up and running, allowing you to spread your standard weekend ticket purchase over 5 instalments. You can sign up at any time until February 28th and will make your first payment of £29 + booking fees straight away. After that, payments breakdown as follows: Payment 2 - £29 (debits 27/03/20), Payment 3 - £29 (debits 27/04/20), Payment 4 - £29 (debits 26/05/20), and then your Final Payment - £29 + postage (debits 26/06/20).  Please note VIP and child tickets are not eligible for the deposit scheme. Get tickets at the ticket store.

Unsure what to expect? Watch a trailer all about BLOODSTOCK here.

BLOODSTOCK’s 2020 main stage headliners are DEVIN TOWNSEND (Friday), BEHEMOTH (Saturday), and JUDAS PRIEST (Sunday). The festival also welcomes HATEBREED, PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS, SKINDRED, PARADISE LOST, LIFE OF AGONY, BURY TOMORROW, BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DIAMOND HEAD, JINJER, VIO-LENCE, SACRED REICH, GLORYHAMMER, DARK TRANQUILLITY, BUTCHER BABIES, CATTLE DECAPITATION, BLOODYWOOD, MEMORIAM, RAMAGE INC, GREEN LUNG, BOSSK, CONJURER, ORANGE GOBLIN, THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA, UNLEASH THE ARCHERS, SAXON, SYLOSIS, TOXIC HOLOCAUST, NECTOR, WINTERFYLLETH, & EXHUMED so far. 26/5/2018

As BLOODSTOCK’s regional finals for their grass-roots-artist-supporting METAL 2 THE MASSES scheme thunder through local venues around the country this month, the festival is very excited to announce the first winners who won themselves a slot on 2018’s New Blood stage this August.

Joining the bill on Friday are hard-rocking trio, PELUGION (www.facebook.com/pelugion), victors of the Coventry heat, who blend classic metal styles reminiscent of Diamond Head & Black Label Society, as well as Glasgow’s winners, A RITUAL SPIRIT (www.facebook.com/aritualspirit), Edinburgh-based heavy rockers whose debut album, ‘Carnival Carnivorous’ is available now.

Landing a Saturday spot are Sheffield’s winners and symphonic metal 7-piece, AONIA (www.facebook.com/aoniauk). The band feature two ‘soprano with balls’ vocalists and have been compared to Therion, Avantasia, and Nightwish. If your tastes are more on the brutal side, check out the champions of the Reading heat, crust/grind/powerviolence trio, NEGATIVE THOUGHT PROCESS (www.facebook.com/negativethoughtprocess). Also gaining a Saturday New Blood slot are Belfast’s groove metal victors, ORACLE (www.facebook.com/oraclebandni/), whose debut EP, ‘Tales of Pythia’ is out now.

Rolling in on Sunday are Dublin top dogs, THIS PLACE HELL (www.facebook.com/ThisPlaceHell).  The five piece’s ferocious metal show is renowned at home in Ireland and has been described as ‘organised chaos’!  Also appearing Sunday are irreverent power metal bards, SELLSWORD (www.facebook.com/mercenarymetal) who grabbed their slot via CD application. Their debut album, ‘...And Now We Ride’ is available now. The CD applications were so good, BLOODSTOCK’s also added OBZIDIAN (www.facebook.com/ObzidianBand), purveyors of classic thrash from the home of metal in the Midlands.

Alongside the first phase of M2TM winners come some of the Jagermeister Stage bands. Expect to see THE HERETIC ORDER (www.facebook.com/thehereticorder) on Friday. The band recently signed with Massacre Records and release their second album, ‘Evil Rising’ on 22nd June.  Saturday brings you a set from Belfast’s SINOSENCE (www.facebook.com/sinocence), who’ve just completed work on the third of their trilogy of EPs under the ‘No Gods, No Masters’ banner - expect Vol.3 to land this summer.  Also booked for Saturday’s Jagermeister Stage are West Midlands hard rockers, VOODOO SIOUX (www.facebook.com/Voodoo-Sioux-234030206630714).

Sunday, we welcome one for the classic metal fans, Aussie rockers TRUE BELIEVER (www.facebook.com/truebelieverofficial), who describe themselves as a blend of Dio, Mastodon, Ghost, Foreigner, Alice In Chains and Deep Purple!  Also appearing are black metal experimentalists, ABDUCTION (www.facebook.com/abduction616) who bring their extreme sonics to the bill and GEMMA FOX (www.facebook.com/gemmafoxmusic), frontwoman for prog metal outfit Collibus, in her solo guise.

June’s BLOODSTOCK club nights are locked down and rack up as follows.  Get along to your local club for the chance to win weekend tickets and associated prizes and hear tunes from BLOODSTOCK bands, old and new.

70000TONS OF METAL 2018: recap + 2019 destination announced

17/2/2018

Picture

There are your standard heavy metal festivals – and there is 70000TONS OF METAL. Just imagine: You’ve just returned from a beautiful island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean after spending hours enjoying the sun and white sand on a wonderful Caribbean beach. Feeling the warm wind blowing in your face, you are now sitting in a hot tub on a giant cruise ship, up close to a large stage, headbanging to your favourite band. You are watching from one of six whirlpools with a direct view of the stage on the pool deck, which is the biggest open air stage structure to sail the seas. It’s loud. It’s full of metalheads from all over the world. Sounds perfect? Well, it is ......

It’s been more than a week now since most fans have returned home from a more than successful 70000TONS OF METAL 2018 - round 8, more than a few of them still suffering from a serious case of PCD (post cruise depression) following four incredible days on board the Independence Of The Seas. More than 3,000 metalheads boarded the ship together with 61 bands, each of which was going to perform at least two shows (124 shows on 4 stages in total) during this unique event at sea. Some fans spent the shore day in Turks and Caicos with their favourite band during one of the various artist-led shore excursions. Picture yourself swimming with Meshuggah in the awe inspiring presence of majestic stingrays, or snorkeling with Aborted and Exhumed by your side to make you feel safe. Wolves on a safari? Sure, go on a coast-to-coast island tour with Wolfchant!

On top came the one of a kind All-Star performance “Jamming With Waters in International Waters” featuring members e.g. from Kreator, Sabaton, Cannibal Corpse, Destruction, Sonata Arctica, Meshuggah, Enslaved, Primal Fear, Dark Tranquility, Voivod, Seven Spires and many more, playing all time heavy metal and hard rock classics together on stage for the first time ever.

And there was another premiere, a record rather, that no one expected to be broken after last year’s peak of 74 different nationalities represented on board: 2018 beat 2017 by one more nation and proved once again that 70000TONS OF METAL is the most global cruise, uniting 75 nations on board this year. Germany, USA and Canada were among the top five of the most represented nations aboard. The youngest sailor was only 1 year old, the oldest turned 79 on the ship.

Picture
Coming up: Round 9

So watch out, Sailors: After the cruise is before the cruise. Fans can already look forward to round 9 of 70000TONS OF METAL, THE original, The World’s Biggest Heavy Metal Cruise sailing from Miami/Ft. Lauderdale to Labadee, Haiti and back, January 31 – February 4, 2019.

In the last few days UK melodic death metallers Bloodshot Dawn entered the studio to begin work on their third full length album, which will be entitled Renanimation, and is slated for released early 2018 via Hostile Media.

Frontman Josh McMorran comments, "We are pleased to announce we have joined forces with Hostile Media to release our third full length, Reanimation. After working with their press team for years we have built a stalwart relationship that we believe will help take us to the next level as well as making it easier to purchase our music across the globe. Their passion and commitment is equal to our tenacity and hard work ethic making this a force to be reckoned with!"

Since their acclaimed self-titled and second album Demons, there has been shifts in the bands ranks making way for new members, Canadian shredder Morgan Reid and drummer James Stewart (also of Vader and Divine Chaos). The band commented earlier about James joining the fold, "His experience and recording insight has helped shape the new album and we couldn't be happier!"

As well as the news of an imminent new release the band has announced a new UK / Ireland tour, their first in almost 2 years! "We are also excited to be hitting the tour circuit again after a short hiatus. We are hungry for live devastation and looking forward to seeing fans old and new!"
