For those who do not know the concept behind Metal 2 The Masses, it is a band competition that results in a plethora of prizes, the biggest being a slot on Bloodstock Open Air. Hundreds to Thousands of bands enter this fantastic competition across the globe and each year it only gets better and better, sadly some regions are dropped and happily some are put in place. 2013 saw GMA's home county of Essex being dropped and so some bands opted to either go into the London, Kent or East Anglia regions. Anyhow lets have a breakdown of each M2TM going on and what regions are represented this year! Keep up to date with Bloodstock as each winner will be placed on the festival flyer! This can be seen here: http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/ Winning bands will be announced across the breadth of June and July. "So what's in it for a successful band? Performing at BLOODSTOCK 2013 Performing at Wacken Open Air 2014 Performing at Metal Camp Slovenia 2014 Performing at OST Festival Romania Furthermore the initiative will be supported and witnessed by some of the biggest names in the industry - so the opportunity for your band to be seen by record companies, agents and management - is a real possibility!!" Taken from: http://www.bloodstock.uk.com/events/boa-2013/masses_venues/intro So below you will find the regions BOA is covering (we felt it was a little cheeky to do this next bit), however we will balance this against Germany's Wacken Open Air and see if anyone notices a little trend going on. Whilst Bloodstock focuses on homegrown talent (which in GMA's opinion is the best thing to do), Wacken goes global. Conclusion: Bloodstock is the best ever Metal festival the UK will ever see!

So many of you are thinking what is going on behind the doors at Bloodstock, well in all honesty, a lot.
Here is a low down since late March till now (13th June) In late March Bloodstock announced the next lot of ready-to-go bands who will be pummeling the very foundations of the New Blood stage this year (sponsored by the one and only Hobgoblin). Handpicked from applications made by a plethora bands reaching into the far hundreds, these following bands will join up with their compatriots who have battled their way through in the forthcoming Metal 2 The Masses competition, a truly ferocious friendly fight (yeah right!). The latest eight bands to be added to this year come in the form of Essex Thrashers Rezinwolf, London Thrashers Kremated (whose motto is Thrash Ain't Dead; they are right), Worcestershire mob Fury and the following bands: Prosperina, Mask of Judas, The Infernal Sea, Bound By Exile and XII Boar. What else could you ask for? Bloodstock hears you! ____________________________________________ Bloodstock then hosted an Easter egg hunt that involved website viewers' to search all over the site to find the said items, this allowed them to be entered in to win Bloodstock tickets, it was an egg-celent time. Winners were Kate Senter, Nick Stevens and Amy Lawrence respectively. ____________________________________________ As time progressed into Mid April, more bands were announced to let rip at Bloodstock, the following bands are confirmed to play: Gama Bomb, Slayer, Beholder, Last In line, Grifter, Cypher 16, Betraeus and The Way Of Purity. Bloodstock once again is partnering up with the Teenage Cancer Trust, at the 2012 edition £4,775 was raised, so come on fellow metalheads, let's smash that £5,000 barrier!!!!!! Further on into May and French Groove masters Gojira were announced to play Bloodstock, this comes before their well-earned awarding of the Metal Hammer Golden God Award ‘Best Live Band’ category. It was a tough category too! _____________________________________________ Knocking on June and Bloodstock ser By The Fans, For The Fans Well all of us at Global Metal Apocalypse are adamant you have read what is below a million or so times, but we cannot stress some of the items below as being more important than having to be carted home or to the hospital due to lack of TLC on yourself and your fellow compatriots.
First off, as this is hosted in the heat of the British summer (as depressing as it seems already this year), it is important you keep yourself in check, so below we have listed the ten most important things we feel you need in the heat and to enjoy yourself at arguably the UK's best independent music festival going. 1. Water Beer is alright but not in the heat, the best times to consume your beer is either early morning or in the evening, the latter is the most ideal time as it is cooler. For sure have one bottle in the day, but don't go excessive and make sure you are kept refreshed with ideally water or non-alcoholic drinks. We cannot stress enough how important it is you keep yourself refreshed. Even the Arabians in 40C drink plenty, so there is no excuse to mistreat your body. 2. Suncream Well this is not a fish festival, therefore you do not plan to match your skin color to that of cooked salmon or lobster. It is important you keep your uncovered skin covered with suncream, you want to be in the pit knowing you're not getting burnt from the sun, let's be honest you would not want to be laying on your back in your tent in agony from sunburn, see? This does not give you an excuse to don black paint for corpse-paint either, oh go on then, but do make sure you cream yourself up. 3. Hats And no we are not talking about beanie hats or silly caps, we are talking about baseball caps or those hats the Australians tend to wear, believe us we know. It's another way to keep yourself cool and lowers the risk of being burnt. You may think ok but where do i put my hat if it's not sunny? Simple, get one you can fold easily into a pocket or bag. 4. Sunglasses They aren't just designed to make you look cool or like Neo from the Matrix, they stop harmful light getting into your eyes, plus for those who suffer from hay fever or grass they stop the pollen from getting into your eyes and making you rub your eyes until they get red as a vampire or werewolf seeking blood. Oh and plus they keep your eye area cool. 5. Spare socks / shoes And now you're thinking, hang on I'm not off to boot camp, nor military camp. Bare with us, if it's hot and you're walking, you're feet sweat, so keeping a pair of fresh socks in your bag or on your person is great for when you need to freshen your feet up, also alternate your footwear each day as this helps your feet adapt to changing surroundings. 6. Tent Well come on did you plan on sleeping in the countryside without a tent, unless you notice someone has stolen it (yeah right, imagine it?) then don't forget your tent and make sure you place it so that the wind is behind you, not with your door facing the wind. Also, when you wake up open the door, ventilation is key here. Also, when you have all your bits and bobs (clothes, toiletries, purchases, etc) inside, plan where to put them and how you are going to sleep, perhaps use some clothes as a makeshift pillow? Blow up pillows can be bought from Argos at a reasonable price and last a long time. 7. Money How else are you going to survive? Sure bring some food but remember chocolate melts so leave that sweet stuff at home unless you bring a cooler box. You will need money to buy food, drinks, gifts and more on site (charge and go for example you need to purchase a ticket prior to going, same for car parking - unless getting the train, coach, or living locally, or getting alternative transport). There are ATM's on site, but they do charge for use, so make sure you have ample finances with you to last the 3 days, allocate how much to spend at a max on each day i.e. taking £250, 3 days, so make it £60 as £60x4 = £240, so you got £10 reserved for emergency. 8. Phone & Camera The most important device you will need, best to leave the Ipod at home - even with a camera function, take a camera instead. Internet is limited on site. But regarding a phone how do you plan on contacting your buddies if they're camping on the other side of the festival site? Smoke signals are banned, that means you BBQ owners! But also if you need to call someone urgently, i.e. family then you need your phone AND BRING THE CHARGERS! AND SPARE BATTERY FOR YOUR CAMERA! 9. CD's and autograph books / memorabilia. Tip: Take at max 2 cd's per band you have that corresponds to the bands playing, you will see who are doing signing sessions at the signing tent. On the day of arrival, leave your CD's in your car out of sight - go check on the tent who is doing what on what day, and plan accordingly. Same applies for any other memorabilia. But for those who just want a signature, any small blank book will work. 10. Bloodstock ticket, car parking permit, store and charge permit Most importantly, your ticket. As without it you cannot get in, so remember it. As for your car parking permit, this only applies to those driving from home - remember to bring it. As for store and charge permits, bring that too - you won't want your phone, camera or any other devices running out of battery and you being stuck without a charge permit to recharge them. Finally enjoy yourself! Rhys Stevenson |
