On Mareridt (translation: Nightmare), Myrkur explores deeper into the mysterious and the feminine with 11 songs that further progress her visionary blend of metal with gorgeous, stirring melodies, dark folk passages, choral arrangements and superb, horrific beauty. The conceptual masterpiece includes lyrics in multiple languages, an unforgettable collaboration with Chelsea Wolfe and an array of special instrumentation including violin, mandola, folk drums, nyckelharpa (an ancient Swedish key harp), and Kulning (an ancient Scandinavian herding call).
Like a marriage of King Diamond's 'Them' with Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake', Mareridt is a carefully composed concept freed from genre - a profound manifestation of nightmares that demonstrates Myrkur as one of the truly exceptional artists of our time. The compositions sweep into one another like a soundtrack designed to guide the listener through emotional turmoil. Timeless, triumphant, powerful and hypnotic, Mareridt is a sonic nightmare that you never want to escape.
Amalie Bruun - all instruments and composition.

German band Atrium Noctis are ready with the release of their new album, Aeterni. With a new line-up, formed around ever present member Hydra Gorgonia, the band have moved into a new, advanced artistic direction. Atrium Noctis plays music which has its roots in symphonic dark and black metal. Influences from classical music and elements from Pagan Metal, contribute to a pronounced, unique sound and a special type of sheen to the output. There is great darkness paired with a thick slice of heaviness emphasized within the new songs.
Melancholic, hymnic and sentimental passages are also a part of the music. Additionally, epic and colourful nuances enrich everything as a whole. Atrium Noctis love big sound pictures and have largely unburdened themselves from the genre limits of black metal which have allowed songs like Datura Noir and Die Nacht des Falken to be created. Multiple singers have been involved and guarantee a wide range of vocal diversity throughout the songs and highlighting the German lyrics.
Atrium Noctis have also dedicated themselves to a melodic sound and the band members bring their different musical backgrounds to the fore. There are open minded musicians who have played metal their entire lives, a female singer who is classically skilled, two studied musicians who are open for anything, all of which contribute to the deep black soul of the album. With Aeterni, the musicians of Cologne, successfully strive for a true authenticity and a return to the roots of the original formation.

Influenced by bands such as Symphony X, Dream Theater, Haken, Plini, Rush along with classical, jazz and progressive rock, Montreal's instrumental violin prog metal Cydemind offer a refreshing take on progressive music that is sure to attract interest from a wide audience with their new album "Erosion". Teaming up with TheProgReport, the quintet is proud to premiere the full stream of the release, which consists of six compositions including a 27 minute masterpiece of the album's title track.
"We’re very excited to finally release Erosion. We’ve been working on it for so long; to finally launch it feels like we’ve reached the summit of a mountain that took 5 years to climb. We hope you’ll appreciate the scenery as much as we do. Thanks for supporting us and here’s to many more albums!”
"Erosion" was recorded in Montreal at The Grid with producer Christian Donaldson (Cryptopsy, The Agonist, Beyond Creation, Neuraxis) along with additional recording of grand piano done at Studio 270. Album artwork was done by drummer and band co-founder Alexandre Dagenais along with lyrical poems included with the release written by pianist Camille Delage. The poems describe each composition as the album gravitates around the theme of nature and its persistence through time.

Ghost of Mary plays melodic death metal with symphonic and orchestral elements borrowed from classical music. The band, active from the early months of 2014, recorded its first concept album “Oblivaeon” , an original allegory about life and death. The compositions are structured with progressive architectures and immersed in a dark atmosphere. The songwriting is articulated and distinctly melodic, characterized by a heavy metal rhythm section and swedish death guitar riffs. The voice alternates different styles, from screaming and growling vocals to clean and scratched ones. The orchestral scores of piano, violin, viola and cello make the music of Ghost of Mary an evocative journey through time.
Let the journey begin.
Classically trained pianist, composer, vocalist and an accomplished writer / performer Ayin Aleph recently released her operatic, avant garde new single "Crystal Bell" via Elliptic Entertainment (order here). The teaser for her highly-anticipated music video for the track already boasts over 130,000 views - an impressive feat for a new, independent artist.
Today, Ayin is finally giving fans what they've been waiting for by releasing said music video - a visually extravagant offering accenting the Baroque / opera-influenced metal style of the track. You can watch the video today, exclusively via Bloody-Disgusting.com: http://bloody-disgusting.com/music/3396638/ayin-aleph-crystal-bell-video-premiere-exclusive/
The video for "Crystal Bell" was shot in Los Angeles over the course of three non-consecutive days. The video features three distinct locations, directed with the assistance of three different directors and cinematographers. Under the direction of Ayin Aleph, Denis Sobolev coordinated the group scenes, cinematographer and "Crystal Bell" video editor Gene Avakyan oversaw the glamour scenes and drone camera operation, and the underwater scenes were filmed with special techniques at the direction of Alex Sherman.
"Crystal Bell" was born in a moment of realization that we spend our lives searching for love while despising the ones who love us," states Ayin Aleph. She adds, "The video marks a turning point of the visual and musical expression of Ayin Aleph. Blurring the lines of fantasy and reality, the video portrays Ayin as an array of extravagant female archetypes - a sexy 50's pin-up character, an opera singer, a victim of drowning symbolizing love, a sexy vintage casino manager getting killed after a fight, and beyond. The video was shot in three days in Los Angeles with different cinematographers, notably because of the technical requirements of underwater filming and drone shots. Pulling together this profusion of elements with the amazing editing support of my drummer Shad Wilhelm was a challenging and tremendously rewarding experience!"
Eclectic and provocative, Ayin Aleph seeks to elevate the majesty inherent to classical music with the power of modern, progressive influences to create a new form of opera and pianistic neo-classical music, that is one viable to mass markets. That journey led to the formation of the band that carries her name, collaborations with some of the industry's top musicians and producers, the recording of 3 albums, 7 video productions, and live performances all over the world.
Ayin Aleph's upcoming album (currently in production) has been described as, "J.S. Bach and Freddie Mercury's love child marries Danny Elfman, while having a torrid affair with Pantera."
Although somewhat underground in the rock and metal scenes, Ayin Aleph is no stranger to the world of music. Ayin first played piano at the age of four, and by the time she was six, she was performing with a symphony orchestra. She was soon recognized by noted composer Dimitri Kabalevski as "one of the most promising virtuosos of her generation." By the age of 10, Ayin was composing and performing original pieces, in concert, for the Composers' Union in Moscow. Ayin continued her musical education in renowned institutions - Moscow Conservatory, The Royal Conservatory of Brussels, The European Conservatory in Paris. Gifted with perfect pitch, her experience and educational disciplines have augmented an organic process of original composition allowing her to use a lot of different musical styles within the frame of a song.
Ayin Aleph is:
