French doomlords Witchthroat Serpent stream the entirety of their highly anticipated third album, Swallow the Venom, at Decibel magazine's website. Set for international release on November 23rd via Svart Records, hear Witchthroat Serpent's Swallow the Venom in its entirety exclusively HERE.
Hailing from Toulouse, Witchthroat Serpent have dabbled in unnatural psychedelia and the black arts for some time now, producing fine pieces of vinyl such as the critically acclaimed slab of ultra-doom Sang-Dragon in 2016. This November, the group are returning with venom, as the serpentine new album Swallow The Venom hits turntables across the riff-worshiping world.
From the pagan chants of "Feu Sacré" to the aggressive trance of "Might of the Unfailing Source," Witchthroat Serpent have expanded their weaponry and truly mastered their art. Split into eight consciousness-expanding tracks, Swallow The Venom presents a dangerous expedition into the nether-regions of esoteric doom metal, filled with strange mind-altering plants, low frequencies, and rites of strange cults. Armed with the fire of Fallen Angel, Witchthroat Serpent are a force to be reckoned with.
Feel the full force of that reckoning exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine. Also hear - and see - the previously revealed video for "Scorpent Serpion" HERE at Svart's official YouTube channel.
Wolfspell Records have set December 21st as the international release date for Croc Noir's highly striking debut album, Mort.
Hailing from France, Croc Noir formed in 2016 but quickly set to work on their first recordings. An EP followed that year, with another a year later. In 2018 came a new demo and also a split with French comrades Au-Delà. With such feverish devotion and inspiration, it's no surprise that the band's debut album, Mort, is as highly developed as it is. Strictly and staunchly black metal, Croc Noir reverently revel in their homeland's rich history in the blackest arts. Raw yet no less robust, there's a melancholy coursing through Mort that's uniquely underpinned by an understated triumph. As such, this intoxicating swirl of grim delirium nods to distinguished French forebears like Sacrificia Mortuorum, Sombre Chemin, and later Winter Funeral but with a nostalgic touch poignantly conjured through their occasional usage of accordion.
Croc Noir's Mort will be released on digipak CD. In the meantime, hear the new tracks "Tapis Dans L'ombre" and "Égérie Funeste" HERE at Wolfspell Records' Bandcamp, where the album can also be pre-ordered.
Bordeaux-based groove metallers Hell In Town have recently returned after a eight-year hiatus with their second album "Bones". Today, the band unveils a first video for "Wilder" on YouTube.
"Wilder" is Hell In Town's first video outing since their 2014 "Back In The Mud". Its disturbing aesthetics take their cue from 80s/90s horror flicks, thanks to a partial VHS filming by French video-maker Singkipoo. 3Wilder" was shot in the summer of 2017, with a guest appearance from Lea N'kaoua aka Lady Burn.
Watch Hell In Town's haunting "Wilder" video at this location
Surfacing from the muck and bathed in flames over the great Garonne river, Hell In Town is an historical entity of the Bordeaux metal scene. Conjuring their strong southern roots to produce a groove-laden brand of Heavy, this riff machine is characterized by the powerful and husky vocals of its bassist and founder Matt DMS.
Chapter after chapter, this new album takes you into the mind of a dark magus devoted to a ritual watch of Humans. Voodoo, divination, animist witchcraft, mass control: "Bones" poetically brings up stories full of mysticism, while subtly depicting the kind of ordeals the band has gone through since its inception ten years ago. Hell In Town’s firepower is now heightened, down-times are non-existent, for a southern/sludge metal offering that will grab you by the guts. "Bones" can be seen as a transitional record that breathes a wind of change for the pioneer outfit of the French Southern metal scene. The phoenix rises from a pile of buried bones, stronger than ever…
"Bones" is out now on CD via vapocalypse.fr and on all digital platforms. It was mixed by Matt DMS, mastered at El Mobo Concrete Studio. Artwork was designed by Ero Cyco.

French death metal upstarts Atavisma premiere the new track "Ashen Ascetic" at Decibel magazine's website. The track hails from the band's highly anticipated debut album, The Chthonic Rituals, set for international release on July 23rd via Memento Mori. Hear Atavisma's "Ashen Ascetic" in its entirety exclusively HERE.
Hailing from the new breed of exquisite French death metal darkness, Atavisma formed in late 2013 and promptly set to work perfecting their assiduously doomed-out craft. Founders G. (guitar) and L. (vocals) wanted to create a band devoted to old-school death metal, and with the addition of C. (drums) and W. (bass) shortly thereafter, the quartet's compositions progressively shifted towards a death-doom approach with a penchant for lyrics that mainly deal with the relationship between man and nature, ancient cultures and spirituality. Wisely prizing quality over quantity, Atavisma's sparse discography comprises a debut single in 2014 and a four-song demo that same year, a split 7" with Maur in 2015, and a two-song 7" last year on the esteemed Blood Harvest. During all this, the band took their craft to the stage alongside such bands as Archgoat, Merrimack, Inferno, Ritualization, Ataraxie, Mercyless, and Mourning Dawn, and as recently as February/March 2017, they embarked on their first French tour and supported Blood Incantation and Cruciamentum during their European tour.
With their chops finely honed in the studio and on the live front, at last comes the time for Atavisma's momentous debut album: The Chthonic Rituals. The album's title not-so-subtly serves as a clarion call for the quartet's aesthetic to date, and where that aesthetic can fully go when given a long-form format. Ridiculously filthy and yet exuding a startling sense of clarity, Atavisma here conjure a forever-roiling, fatally-swirling whirlpool of murk and total 'n' utter DARKNESS. Riffs are doled out like sick 'n' slithering creatures that soon overtake their master, devouring both body and soul with salacious delight. Thus armed, compositions take on obscene forms, utilizing both über-heavy hooks and labyrinthine detours, hackle-raising tension and hypnotic quasi-melodicism, winding the listener down caverns most foul, warping any sense of sanity. And although the band's attack has gotten progressively doomier, there's never a moment of inertia; all is forward momentum, and it all leads toward an abyss with literally no end. The 11-minute closer says everything in its title: "A Subterranean Life."
As with all Memento Mori releases, totality is reached in both cover art (courtesy of E. Muskie), mixing by Johan Bijaoui at Mannaz Records, and mastering, by the elite Javier Felez at Moontower Studios. Maniacs of Incantation, Cianide, Grave, Disma, Winter, Funebre, Encoffination, and classic Convulse, hereby meet your new masters: Atavisma! Let The Chthonic Rituals begin...
"Ashen Ascetic," the next ritual, can be found exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine. Another ritual, the previously revealed "Invocation of Archaic Deities," can be found HERE courtesy of NoCleanSinging.com. And the first ritual can be found HERE at Memento Mori's official YouTube channel, with the previously revealed "Sacrifice Unto Babalon."
