French death metal upstarts Atavisma premiere the new track "Invocation of Archaic Deities" at heavily trafficked web-portal NoCleanSinging.com. The track hails from the band's highly anticipated debut album , The Chthonic Rituals, set for international release on July 23rd via Memento Mori. Hear Atavisma's "Invocation of Archaic Deities" in its entirety exclusively HERE.
Hailing from the new breed of exquisite French death metal darkness, Atavisma formed in late 2013 and promptly set to work perfecting their assiduously doomed-out craft. Founders G. (guitar) and L. (vocals) wanted to create a band devoted to old-school death metal, and with the addition of C. (drums) and W. (bass) shortly thereafter, the quartet's compositions progressively shifted towards a death-doom approach with a penchant for lyrics that mainly deal with the relationship between man and nature, ancient cultures and spirituality. Wisely prizing quality over quantity, Atavisma's sparse discography comprises a debut single in 2014 and a four-song demo that same year, a split 7" with Maur in 2015, and a two-song 7" last year on the esteemed Blood Harvest. During all this, the band took their craft to the stage alongside such bands as Archgoat, Merrimack, Inferno, Ritualization, Ataraxie, Mercyless, and Mourning Dawn, and as recently as February/March 2017, they embarked on their first French tour and supported Blood Incantation and Cruciamentum during their European tour.
With their chops finely honed in the studio and on the live front, at last comes the time for Atavisma's momentous debut album: The Chthonic Rituals. The album's title not-so-subtly serves as a clarion call for the quartet's aesthetic to date, and where that aesthetic can fully go when given a long-form format. Ridiculously filthy and yet exuding a startling sense of clarity, Atavisma here conjure a forever-roiling, fatally-swirling whirlpool of murk and total 'n' utter DARKNESS. Riffs are doled out like sick 'n' slithering creatures that soon overtake their master, devouring both body and soul with salacious delight. Thus armed, compositions take on obscene forms, utilizing both über-heavy hooks and labyrinthine detours, hackle-raising tension and hypnotic quasi-melodicism, winding the listener down caverns most foul, warping any sense of sanity. And although the band's attack has gotten progressively doomier, there's never a moment of inertia; all is forward momentum, and it all leads toward an abyss with literally no end. The 11-minute closer says everything in its title: "A Subterranean Life."
As with all Memento Mori releases, totality is reached in both cover art (courtesy of E. Muskie), mixing by Johan Bijaoui at Mannaz Records, and mastering, by the elite Javier Felez at Moontower Studios. Maniacs of Incantation, Cianide, Grave, Disma, Winter, Funebre, Encoffination, and classic Convulse, hereby meet your new masters: Atavisma! Let The Chthonic Rituals begin...
The next ritual can be found exclusively HERE, courtesy of NoCleanSinging.com, with the new track "Invocation of Archaic Deities." The first ritual can be found HERE at Memento Mori's official YouTube channel, with the previously revealed "Sacrifice Unto Babalon."
This April and May, Chicago post-metallers Snow Burial will embark on an eleven-date European tour with Cornwall doom outfit Monolithian. Beginning in the United Kingdom on April 23rd, circling through the continent, and closing with London's acclaimed Desertfest on May 5th, this tour will be Snow Burial's second trip across the pond.
Snow Burial recently recorded at the famed Electrical Audio in early 2018, crafting a split 7-inch with Iowa City’s doom maestros Aseethe (Thrill Jockey). The tapes and vinyl will be released courtesy of Hand Of Death Records.
The band commented, "We are beyond excited to get back to Europe and hit the road with our good friends in Monolithian. The opportunity to be a part of Desertfest and spend two weeks getting loud across an ocean is amazing and humbling. Add to that the chance to bring with us a brand new split tape with Aseethe from Hand of Death Records and we're on top of the world. "
Formed after a Shiner reunion show, Snow Burial established themselves in the American Midwest scene and released twin EPs Oxblood Siren (2013) and Oxblood Tides (2014). Through promoting the EPs and extensive regional touring, the band earned a reputation for their crushing sound and performances.
Following positive reviews, tours, and airplay, the band released their inaugural LP Victory In Ruin in January 2016. Snow Burial continued touring the US and UK in 2017, featuring an opening slot for Scott Kelly and Sanford Parker’s project Mirrors for Psychic Warfare, with coverage from Metal Hammer Magazine and multiple blogs. In spring 2017, they proudly released a new song “Burn Down the Crown,” on the Unpresidented: DIY vs. Donald Trump benefit compilation.

Denmark's Taphos sets release date for debut album; reveals first tracks, to tour with Degial in May
Blood Harvest Records and Helter Skelter Productions set June 8th as the international release date for Taphos' highly anticipated debut album, Come Ethereal Somberness, on CD and 12" vinyl formats.
Hot on the heels of Blood Harvest's compilation of the band's first two recordings as Demo MMXVI & 7" EP MMXVII, garnering widespread acclaim and heightening anticipation for their first full-length, at last arrives Taphos' Come Ethereal Somberness. As a debut LP, Come Ethereal Somberness does everything it should: stay consistent to a band's sound established on their demos whilst pointing toward new avenues. Here, Taphos do both, and then some.
Hailing from the same Danish scene as Undergang and Phrenelith, Taphos create a classic - and classically gutted - style of Metal of Death. Their first recording, Demo MMXVI, possessed a darkly thrashing sound highly reminiscent of turn-of-the-'90s death metal on both sides of the Atlantic, as resolutely Scandinavian as it was American, its filthy propulsion as palatably fresh as it was authentically ancient. On the subsequent two-song EP, Taphos' sound becomes more world-eating, their songwriting aims more epic whilst not losing the raw fury of their beginnings.
Now, with Come Ethereal Somberness, they synthesize the two stylistic shifts into something both berzerker and epic, manic and finesse in equal measures. Indeed, Taphos are firing on all songwriting cylinders here, as the energy literally bursts off the charts but retains a sense of composure and daresay class rarely scene in full-blooded death metal. Hammering and hideous yet nevertheless invoking a clarity that never castrates their attack, the quartet render each of these seven central compositions (bookended by moody instrumentals) a story unto itself. Hell, the titles themselves tell that story - "Ocular Blackness," "Insidious Gyres," and the equally telltale "Thrive in Upheaval" and "Impending Peril" among them - and that story is horrific.
New nightmares are here, then, and Taphos will be taking them on the road with a full European tour this May alongside Swedish comrades Degial (dates after the jump). Until then, as its title ominously proclaims, Come Ethereal Somberness! Hear two new tracks off the album, the aforementioned "Thrive in Upheaval" and "Impending Peril" HERE at Blood Harvest's Bandcamp. Pre-order info can be found HERE.

French post-metal pioneers Hyno5e have always been a band that transcends the borders and limitations of not only the genre of music which is commonly considered to be their territory, but the territory of music itself.
Their conceptual, cinematic live show has historically been built upon a strong visual component... but that was just the beginning of a journey which is now reaching the next level: Alba - Les Ombres Errantes is the first full length movie directed by singer and guitar player Emmanuel Jessua. And his band, Hyno5e, has turned down their amps, or switched them off entirely, to provide the stunning seventy-five-minute soundtrack for this ambitious project. The soundtrack to the movie, performed by Hyno5e s acoustic alter ego band A Backward Glance On A Travel Road (featuring the same members as Hyno5e) captures the essence of a whirlwind that blurs and reunites age, dreams, and reality.
In advance if the soundtrack's April 6th release, Decibel Magazine offers up opening track, the eleven-plus minute "Who Wakes Up From This Dream Does Not Bear My Name," for public delight lauding a band that churns out, "some of the best epic soundscapes this side of the ocean. Or, technically, that side of the ocean."
Get swept away by "Who Wakes Up From This Dream Does Not Bear My Name" at Decibel Magazine RIGHT HERE.
If you missed it, view the video for "Los Heraldos Negros," with images from the film, at THIS LOCATION.
Alba - Les Ombres Errantes will see release via Pelagic Records on 2xLP, CD, and digital formats. Preorders are available now. Emmanuel Jessua grew up in Bolivia, where Alba - Les Ombres Errantes was filmed with a team of seven French and Bolivian volunteers, on a budget of only 22.000€. The result is a breathtaking sonic and visual journey through the otherworldly landscapes of one of the most intriguing places on earth; a journey that orbits around the memories and reflections of a man contemplating about the eternal loss of childhood.
"The idea of this movie was born in the Amazon forest, precisely in Rurenabaque, on the terrace of a small hotel on the Beni river shore," relays Jessua. "I was only ten years old and had been living with my family in Bolivia for more than five years. I was experiencing life with an incredible intensity, in a fantastic environment... with this film, I wanted to capture the constant exceeding of limits that I feel when I'm in Bolivia; the limits between the gods and the human, between sanity and madness, between the past and the present. It is in the religious and musical syncretism of the Oruro carnival (where my mother used to dance each year) that this exceeding of limits can be witnessed the best, where myth and reality mingle, and where the protagonists lose their sensation of time or space."

Rising up from the mind of Olivier Verron (more known in the international Metal Scene under the alias of Amduscias, leader of the French Black Metal band Temple Of Baal), Conviction was officially born in November 2013, when the first demo was composed and recorded... In only 11 hours.
“An intense and spontaneous experience”, states the musician. “I recorded as I composed, and the ideas just kept on flowing one after another. Maybe due to the long gestation of the project, which I had in mind ever since the nineties, but that I couldn’t render concrete back then, due to the lack of musicians into Doom Metal, and the fact that I hardly had any equipment to record back then.”
Conviction’s first release introducing a pure traditional Doom band influenced by SAINT VITUS, PENTAGRAM, COUNT RAVEN or early CATHEDRAL, was very well received within the Underground. CONVICTION stands for true classic Doom Metal. “In a time when Doom is turned into cheerful Stoner, or melted with sludgy Hard Core vibes, my intention is to keep up with the old school and Metal way. Doom should deal with gloom and darkness, and to me it’s a nonsense to turn it into a positive, party-like music dealing with how cool it is to smoke a joint or whatever”, states the leader.
After a second self-release in the form of the digital single Outworn, CONVICTION was joined by guitar player Frédéric Patte-Brasseur (ATARAXIE, FUNERALIUM), bass player Vincent Buisson (MOURNING DAWN) and drummer Rachid “Teepee” Trabelsi (MOONSKIN, CORROSIVE ELEMENTS).
“We are excited, honoured and happy to join the Argonauta family, seeing this first album becoming reality is a dream come true after all these years, and I am personally thrilled to see my old friends Fred, Vincent and Teepee joining me on this adventure.”
The band, now ready to doom the stages of Europe, will have the first album ready at the end of 2018.
Imminence Records' French Metalcore outfit Out Of My Eyes has just premiered their newest music video. The track, entitled "404," is off the bands debut album Concept that was released yesterday on Imminence Records. The album is released shortly before the band's five day UK tour that will be the first of several planned tours throughout the year.
"We have worked very hard on that record and we hope you will love it as much as we do! It's gonna be a big year for Out Of My Eyes so keep an eye on us to make sure you don't miss anything!” - Harry Maisonneuve (Guitarist)

2018 marks the return of Oxford-based sludge-metal titans Desert Storm as they prepare to follow the release of 2014’s critically-acclaimed ‘Omniscient’ album with their new opus ‘Sentinels’, confirmed for release this coming March 16th via APF Records.
Recorded with engineer Jamie Dodd (Orange Goblin) at Flesh & Bone Studio's, Hackney and tracked by Steve 'Geezer' Watkins at Woodworm studios (which has also been used by legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi), ‘Sentinels’ is a colossal sounding record, it’s ten tracks punching the listener with an oppressive towering monolithic sound that batters, but never dulls the senses.
“This album is a natural progression from our previous releases,” explains guitarist Ryan Cole. “It has the Desert Storm sound, but has moved in a much harder, darker and heavier direction.”
Today we get to hear the first rumblings from ‘Sentinels’ in the shape of ‘Too Far Gone’, a brutal, pounding powerhouse of a track that tackles the bleak subject of excessive binge drinking. “It’s the paradox of hard liquor being both the cause and the remedy of the sickness,” states vocalist Matt Ryan. “Self destruction and punishment of the body. It’s inspired by the tragic tales of Bon Scott and John Bonham, along with fictional characters Ben Sanderson of Leaving Las Vegas and to a lesser extent, Jim Lahey of Trailer Park Boys. It’s a miserable outcome as our song begins with alcoholism and ends in death.”
