Iron Bonehead Productions sets November 3rd as the international release date for Kawir's highly anticipated seventh album, Exilasmos, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats.
Since 1993, Kawir have been one of the unsung pillars of the classic Greek black metal sound. While the names Rotting Christ, Varathron, and Necromantia are incredibly important to that style's foundation, it was Kawir who kept the faith during the '90s and into the new millennium. In 1994, the then-young band released two pivotal 7"s, Eumenides and a split with Japan's Sigh - on the pivotal Cacophonous Records, no less - and then followed those up in 1996 with the To Cavirs MLP, which is the first truly pagan-oriented record to hail from the Greek black metal scene. With that mini-album, Kawir set about on a Hellenistic crusade to celebrate their native gods and mythology in their lyrics and sartorial presentation. From the late '90s onward, the band continued to remain prolific, perpetually committed to fine-tuning their idiosyncratic craft, culminating in underground classics Arai (2005) and Ophiolatreia (2008). Although 2012's Ισόθεος featured a cross-continental line-up, the album further solidified Kawir's status as unique icons in the black metal underground.
Then, just last year, Iron Bonehead released the massively acclaimed Father Sun Mother Moon, which saw Kawir return to an all-Greek line-up and recast their classic sound in a whole new light, and now they continue that forward momentum with the fiery Exilasmos. If the 64-minute Father Sun Mother Moon was the sound of Kawir indulging their most epic expanses - always with power and poignancy, it must be said - then the 42-minute Exilasmos is its punchier and more restless counterpart. Across its six characteristically cascading tracks, Kawir take a decidedly darker and more aggressive turn, racing into the fray in a manner most mid '90s (or To Cavirs, as it were) but never losing the inherently heroic aspect so crucial - and so engaging, after all these years - to their Hellenic sound. Supplementing that dark heroism is the addition of a full-time keyboardist in Aristomache, who lends mystical light and shade to the band's surge 'n' swell. Further colouring the windswept wildness of Exilasmos are an endless supply of dramatic solos from guitarists Melanaegis and founder Therthonax.
But, as ever with Kawir, the sonic portrait they paint is imbued with a deep lyricism hailing the Greek pantheon. In the case of Exilasmos, the record is conceptually about the tragic dynasties of the house of Lavdakides (Oedipus Tyrannus) and the house of Atreus. Both dynasties nearly exterminated themselves, and all these violent and inhuman acts brought forth the wrath of Zeus and the curses were consequently laid upon the whole bloodline. "Exilasmos" in Ancient Hellenic Language means calming down the gods' wrath, so it perfectly describes the tragic events featured in the namesake album.
Recorded at Esoteron Studio in Athens and mixed and mastered by Esoteric's Greg Chandler at Priory Studio, Exilasmos is yet another gleaming jewel in the rich Kawir canon. Long may they ascend Mount Olympus! Begin that ascent with a special promo video for the new track "Agamemnon" HERE at Iron Bonehead's official YouTube channel.

Greece's own rotten Death Metal savages Necrovorous are set to release Plains of Decay September 29 on Dark Descent Records. A vinyl LP version of the album is also in the works.
Known for their undying adoration for everything sleazy, macabre and genuinely disturbing, the Necrovorous ghouls have risen from their crypt after years of hibernation and are staring at you with bloodshot eyes while brandishing sceptres made of human bones. The world's best attempts to keep from waken the beast have failed miserably. Proceed with cauthon, as the death metal equivalent of Jörg Buttgereit flick "Plains of Decay" is coming to melt with your brain. To avoid fainting, keep on repeating ..."It's only a record... It's only a record... It's only a record..."
NECROVOROUS was created in 2005 by Vangelis F. (Shit Eater - Drums) and Periklis G. (Pig Fucker - guitars/bass/vocals).
Inspired by Death Metal and Grindcore gods such as:AUTOPSY, DR.SHRINKER, IMPETIGO, HELLHAMMER, ASPHYX, (early) DEATH, MASSACRE, NECROVORE, MASTER/DEATHSTRIKE, NECROPHAGIA, the band started spreading some serious havoc and rampage with a series of three demos (later re-released as a single tape). In the beginning, the band's direction was pure gore, a sense of evolution and the stinking air of a more distinctive Death Metal approach started appearing with the recording of their side for the self-financed and sold out split 10" with MEATHOLE INFECTION (now GRAVE RITUAL). After the release of the split 10" the line-up collapsed, with only Vangelis F. remaining, a fact that lead to a short period of inactivity .
In early 2009, Kostas K. (also in EMBRACE OF THORNS) joined as a guitarist/bassist/vocalist. This was a beginning of a new morbid era for NECROVOROUS. The first born, putrid offspring of that unholy intercourse was the Crypt of the Unembalmed Cadavers 7" EP. The debut full-length Funeral for the Sane (released in 2010) found NECROVOROUS more oppressive, filthy and ominous, causing some considerable stir in the worldwide underground. The band went on to perform live, culminating in a performance at Killtown Deathfest along with FUNEBRARUM, GRAVE MIASMA, SONNE ADAM among others.
The following years found our adorable ghouls getting back into their coffins with little to no activity. However the split EP with the Japanese Deathmongers ANATOMIA received praise. Everything seemed hopeless and decayed but 2017 brought the resurrection...

The Shadeless Emperor is a five piece Epic / Melodic Death metal band originating from Larissa Greece, officially formed in early 2010. Due to many unfortunate circumstances, the band was inactive until late 2012, were they started the recordings for their Demo under the name “Homeland”, which was self-released on January 2013.
The band’s main lyrical themes are inspired by fantasy, literature, mythology and philosophy. The Shadeless Emperor shared the stage all around Greece with bands such as Wolfheart, Jinjer, Kin Beneath Chorus, Bewized, Among Ruins to mention a few.
In 2014 The Shadeless Emperor also self-released an 8-bit version of their Demo “Homeland”. When their line-up was finally complete, the band started the recordings of their Debut Album, named “Ashbled Shores”. The recordings took place at “Fabric Studios” on August 2015, and they also self-released their first Lyric Video of their song “Sullen Guard” on June 2016.
The Mixing phase of the album took place at “Anirok Studios” in Kefalonia Greece by sound engineer and bassist of the band, Filippos Salapatas whilst the Mastering phase took place in Athens, Greece by “Steve Lado”, guitarist of Tardive Dyskinesia.
Greek metal / rock band, Raw In Sect, have released a new and crazy music video for 'Therion'. The song is taken from the upcoming third album 'Kitro', to be out in September. The video can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/GqwHHW76LTY
Filmed in London's Black Island studios by director Peter Lee Scott, the band says the video is mean to reflect the transformation into Therion, which is to "find inner power in a primitive way getting in touch with your instincts."
The song's unique blend of traditional Greek music with rock 'n' roll is, according to RAW IN SECT, meant to "redefine what aggressive/rock music is through a totally different approach than the one that has been known in the music scene.
"Really though, it's about doing something new and artistic instead of repeating the same old patterns of established bands in hopes of securing a career in a declining music industry. Changing the language of the lyrics in Greek, recording live, and not setting on the sound of previous records that was somewhat accepted, are among the risks we took willingly in order to express something new and reach wider audiences."
Raw In Sect is a Greek metal / rock act that has released two full length albums, “Red Flows” (2011) and “Blue Haze” (2014). Possessed by a diverse, surprising and totally unique sound as described by many, the quartet has done several tours performing all over Europe which has gained them a loyal fan base as well as recognition as one of the most deserving bands to rise from the underground.
When the “Red Flows” touring era ended, they went on to record “Blue Haze” and mixed it with nominated Grammy award producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Caspian, Pearl Jam). RAW IN SECT presented a 7 minute animation epic for the self titled song which was praised by fans and members of artistic communities. The release of Blue Haze was followed by a very long touring schedule which included over 150 concerts in venues and festivals almost in every corner of Europe.
2017 finds Raw In Sect preparing to release their new album “Kitro” among other activities. Having performed parts of it in various audiences, people speak of a band that is expected to shake and redefine the sound of the global metal/rock scene.
“Calvin: If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’d live a lot differently.
Hobbes: How so?
Calvin: Well, when you look into infinity, you realize that there are more important things than what people do all day.”
This quote from Bill Watterson’s iconic comic strip “Calvin and Hobbes”, resumes accurately Dephosphorus’ intentions.
With 6 vinyl releases spanning from 2011 to 2015, the Athenians are embarked on a cosmic quest. Their concept and aesthetics draw influences from cosmology, astronomy and science fiction literature, as well as the associated sociopolitical and existential repercussions.
Being impossible to describe their music style by using one or two genre references, they have chosen to call it “astrogrind”.
“Impossible Orbits” is Dephosphorus’ 3rd album and their darker and more violent effort to date – both musically and lyrically. Its 9 tracks clocking at under 30’, see them return to a more condensed form of expression, not unlike their critically acclaimed “Axiom” debut mini-LP.
The similarities with the latter do not stop there, as Panos Alexiadis is again on board handling the live electronics and putting an extra eerie touch to the record’s atmosphere.
Check out the first excerpt, “Rational Reappraisal”, which can be streamed at Selfmadegod Records SoundCloud or YouTube channel, as well as Dephosphorus’ Bandcamp page.
“Impossible Orbits” has been recorded and mixed analogically at Unreal Studios. The artwork has been hand drawn by Viral Graphics.
Notorious grindcore label from Poland, Selfmadegod Records, will release CD and cassette version on June 15th 2017. Digital copies will be available directly though the band’s Bandcamp page. A vinyl edition will follow later this year.
