Veteran Italian Thrashers Extrema set to release their exciting 'The Old School' EP end of May-time.
Italian Thrash Metal ambassadors Extrema first broke out onto the metal scene in 1985 - regarded to this day as one of the best live acts to ever emerge from their home country. Now, Extrema is ready to unleash their latest offering and follow up to 2013's "The Seed of Foolishness", entitled "The Old School EP", out May 27, 2016 via Punishment 18 Records. Vocalist G.L. Perotti and co. have churned out a classic metal burner featuring five tracks originally written during the band's heyday - primarily unheard as finished recordings until now.
"The Old School EP" is available for pre-order now via CD, limited edition vinyl (only 250 copies available) and iTunes digital versions.
"The Old School EP" embodies the spirit, immediacy and brutality of the years in which its tracks were originally written, accented by fresh, pummelling production. Recorded last year at Fear Studios in Alfonsine (Ravenna, Italy) with "The Seed of Foolishness" producer Gabry Ravaglia, these tracks do not just prompt the "old school" cliché - they are the real deal - recorded in classic brutal fashion with only minimal writing tweaks.
All five tracks were originally written in 1987, shortly after the release of Extrema's "We Fuckin ' Care EP". Only one of these songs saw the light on an album - "Life" was originally released in 1993 on the band's first full-length album "Tension at the Seams". The track has been re-recorded for "The Old School EP" in addition to tracks the band is known for performing live-only or releasing as raw demos on rare tapes, including "Child Abuse", the instrumental "M.A.S.S.A.C.R.O", "Tribal Scream" and "Carcasses".
In addition to those tracks, "The Old School EP" will feature two bonus tracks, including live versions of "Life" and Motörhead's "Ace of Spades", both recorded in Rome, Italy.
"The Old School EP" track listing:
02. Carcasses (feat. Ralph Salati of Destrage)
03. Tribal Scream
04. Child Abuse
05. M.A.S.S.A.C.R.O. (feat. Bob Capka, formerly of Vicious Rumours)
06. Life (Live in Rome)
07. Ace of Spades (Live in Rome)
The idea came to guitarist Tommy Massara while tidying Extrema's audio archives. He began listening to a tape on which there were no notes or text records of any kind.
"These were very rough recordings that we planned to put on the album before 1993's "Tension at the Seams" that instead never materialized, and here they "magically" popped out at me. I was amazed by the speed at which we played even then and I thought it would be fun for us and for the fans if we re-recorded them nearly 30 years later. People get to hear what we did when many of those who follow us now were not even born! It is possible, however, that their parents could have participated in the 'collective massacres ' at the time... if this is not old school, I don't know what is!"
"The Old School EP" marks the band's first recording session with new drummer Francesco La Rosa, who recently replaced Paul Crimi on drums. It will be clear why his nickname is "Frullo", which means "whipper" in English!
La Rosa will perform with Extrema during their EP showcase presentation on May 21st at Legend Club in Milan, Italy.

Lacuna Coil will be making their much-anticipated return to North America as part of the “Delirium Worldwide” tour next month. The first leg of the tour will feature Butcher Babies as direct support with 9Electric and Painted Wives rounding up the stellar package. The second leg will be announced in the coming weeks and will have a different band as direct support, while the rest of the touring package remains intact. You can check out their dates on their website and Facebook page.
Cristina Scabbia (female vocals) states:
"Everything feels different this time in the Lacuna Coil camp. It's something I can hear it and something I can breath. A new wave of confidence, a renewed essence and pure drops of energy sweating out of our pores. I can't wait to show it to all my friends and welcome you all once again in our family. Trust me, this is a ‘Delirium’ you will feel the NEED to be part of."
Andrea Ferro (male vocals) further adds:
"’Delirium’ is not the beginning of a new chapter in Lacuna Coil's life; it is the beginning of a new book! We're really excited about starting this touring cycle with such a fresh vibe, meeting old and new friends around the U.S. and get such great touring companions. We're just writing the first page of this book and it is already a crazy one."
Marco Coti-Zelati (studio guitars, live bass) continues:
"We’re all super excited to finally be coming back to the US and we’re ready to kick some asses with the greatest album that we’ve ever made! New line-up, new sound, a new vibe and new emotions. I can’t wait to see the reactions from the audiences when they hear the ‘Delirium’ songs played for the first time. Fresh, dark and powerful emotions all at the same time. The strength and heavy approach of thrash metal from the ‘90s - in a modern style. To me, this is the album that I think will be exciting to both of our older AND newer fans. I’m excited, and ready to have some fun on stage, while we spread the ‘Delirium’ to the people."
Ryan Blake Folden (drums) adds:
"For me, I am truly excited to get on the road and play some new material. This is the first record I got to be a part of with the band and I can’t wait to finally see people reactions to songs that I have been really excited about for over a year now. Not to mention, I’ll finally be expressing myself on stage in a way that I haven't been able to do in some time, having up until this point performed music that predated my arrival to the band. With the manifestation of the theme, costumes and artwork, along with the music, the band creatively and passionately poured itself into making this something special."
