After four years of waiting the Czech Pagan metal band Odraedir is set to release their first full length album, 'Legends of the Dark Times'. At the end of February they already presented their first single 'Path of the Wolf' which is dedicated to the story of Geralt of Rivia, the main character of the famous fantasy cycle The Witcher, written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkovski. The album consists of nine songs, intro and outro and will be officially released on the turn of April and May. The musical composition offers a number of melodies as well as powerful guitar riffs which are supplemented by an array of musical instruments such as bagpipes, flutes, violin, etc., contributing to the complexity of the overall composition. It features great footage of the group onstage and some fun backstage clips from the making of recent official videos. Although the interviews are in Russian, the majority of the hour long piece concentrates on the visual side of things and is well worth watching to get a good look at Kaira’s unique approach and vision. Much of the music in the documentary is taken from the album Roots Of Veles released worldwide on Sliptrick Records late last year. We could've come up with the idea to hire Makki as our new bass player much earlier, since he has been on the road with us as our tour manager for many years and has already toured the world on his own. He has always been a part of the family and now we are happy to welcome him on stage with us!" Makki himself added: "July 2004: After a show, I'm buying this CD named ‘Demo 2003’ from our opening act 'EQUILI...what?', to support that rising underground act... and BAM! Twelve years later I am standing on stage together with Equilibrium. I am very grateful for the long friendship with the EQUI-family and I can't wait for the upcoming adventures and shows together with the best fans in the world! See you on the next gig..." Stream three tracks and / or order Calea here: https://loudragemusic.bandcamp.com/album/ashaena-calea Here’s a video of Tapae 87, first track from Calea: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtoZdq7p_fE A few extracts from the initial press feedback: That is really a good album. Ashaena kept us waiting for their second album seven years. On their debut album “Cei născuți din pământ” Ashaena proved that the metal Romania was not only Negura Bunget and surroundings… Those seven years of muteness have not been wasted. “Calea” sounds very mature in the layers of composition, atmosphere, arrangements and production. (Folk Metal Magazine) The music combines seductive folk melodies inspired by Romanian ethnic traditions, performed in part on acoustic instruments, with often warlike metal intensity. The vocals in these three songs are clean, and range from deeply droning, to sadly lamenting, to heroically soaring. Emotionally affecting pagan / folk metal that’s worth further exploration… (No Clean Singing) ‘Calea’ has a lot to offer listeners, and it only seems to get better the further you dive into it. While the comparisons to some of the other Romanian metal bands is perhaps unavoidable given the similar use of folk instruments, Ashaena has carved out their own space and will appeal as much to fans of epic leaning melodic death metal / heavy metal as they will to the usual folk / pagan metal crowds.
