Swedish melodic metal forerunners Amaranthe have officially entered the studio to work on the follow-up to 2014’s breakthrough album "Massive Addictive", which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart upon release and which enjoyed unprecedented U.S. radio airplay in support of the singles “Drop Dead Cynical” and “Digital World.”
The new album is due out on Spinefarm in October.
Amaranthe will spend their summer laying waste to stages at all of the relevant European rock festivals before embarking on a near-constant global touring schedule after the album’s release.
"As some of you no doubt have heard by now, we have entered Top Floor studios with Jakob Herrman in Gothenburg to record our fourth album,” said guitarist Olof Morck. “It is extremely exciting to be back in the creative zone after spending two years traveling the whole world in support of "Massive Addictive". We will spend one month here recording drums, bass and guitars before once again moving onto Jacob Hansen's studio in Denmark for vocal recordings and mixing.”
He continued, “We are beyond thrilled about the new material, which is certainly Amaranthe's most diverse so far; our trademark bleeding edge modern metal is ever present, but fused with an even wider range of genres than before, featuring everything from stadium rock, the latest in pop music innovation and danceable super-hits. Expect these tunes to enter your mind permanently, never to leave, later this year!"
In other Amaranthe news, they’ve racked up some new certifications. The band’s single “Nexus” went gold and “Amaranthine” & “Hunger” have gone platinum - all in their home country Sweden.
More details about Amaranthe's latest bleeding edge modern metal masterwork will be revealed soon.
In support of Aborted’s latest studio album 'Retrogore' - which is out now via Century Media Records - the band will be hitting the road for a run of European dates next February / March alongside Kreator, Sepultura & Soilwork.
The band comments:
“Retrogore over Europe... After the festival season this will be our main trek throughout Europe to bring you some of that delicious gory 80's horror sauce known as Retrogore! And what a line up it is! We are beyond happy to be sharing the stage with giants like Kreator, Sepultura (arise anyone?) and our friends in Soilwork. Prepare for a very diverse bill of pummelling and kick ass metal! Get ready for a few surprises from our side as well! See you all then!“

Witherscape, the Progressive Death Metal outfit consisting of Swedish singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Dan Swanö (ex Edge Of Sanity / Bloodbath, Nightingale, etc.) as well as fellow Swedish multi-instrumentalist Ragnar Widerberg, have announced the worldwide release of their sophomore full-length album “The Northern Sanctuary” for July 22nd, 2016 via Century Media Records.
Following up on the refreshing impact of 2013’s much acclaimed debut album “The Inheritance” (“Album of the month” by Germany’s Rock Hard magazine and position #97 in the official German sales charts) and 2014’s complimentary “The New Tomorrow” EP, “The Northern Sanctuary” is yet another mesmerizingly dense conceptual album, enhanced by breathtakingly powerful artwork courtesy of Hungarian artist Gyula Havancsák / www.hjules.com (Nightingale, Destruction, Tyr, etc.), which can be seen above.
Once more lyrically supported by Paul Kuhr (Novembers Doom), Witherscape continue the storyline launched with the debut album, as Swanö explains:
“The theme picks up where we left off with the "The New Tomorrow" EP. There is a 50 year jump in the time line from the 1st album and the main character "Mannen i vitt" (The man in white) has purchased the house where all the horror initially happened. He's restored it and rents out rooms to people from the big cities, who are aiming for some peaceful northern Swedish silence. But the entity still haunts the house and "Mannen i vitt" is possessed by it, so consequently he / it does terrible things to the "patients". Since the house is built on one of the gates to hell, there's a ritual taking place, opening the hellish dimension from where the evil entity once came, so it can go back there…”
Musically, “The Northern Sanctuary” manages to seamlessly blend the best elements of the band’s 70’s / 80’s Prog / Hard Rock and even AOR roots with contemporary, yet always atmospheric and subtle Extreme Metal. Its infectious catchiness will doubtlessly appeal to the passionate followers of Swanö’s diverse artistic catalogue, but also to fans of bands like Opeth, Amorphis or Symphony X.
Look out for further album details and first song samples for “The Northern Sanctuary” to be revealed soon…
Back in the late 80’s, a Swedish underground death metal band named Nihilist turned into the breeding ground from which two big players of the genre emerged: Entombed and Unleashed. Together with Grave and Dismember (R.I.P.), these bands are crucial for turning the punkish Scandinavian Death Metal sound into a global phenomenon, defining and refining its stylistics, and making it a successful genre to the very day. Parallel to records by Asphyx, Tiamat, Grave, and Morgoth, Unleashed’s debut album “Where No Life Dwells” was one of many all-time-classics of death metal released in 1991 via Century Media Records, and celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2016.
This is a perfect opportunity to bring back this timeless and gloomy masterpiece as stunning vinyl edition offering new fans the chance to discover a true classic. Featuring a re-creation of the original sleeve design, top notch vinyl mastering by Patrick W. Engel / Temple Of Disharmony (Possessed, Iced Earth, Paradise Lost & many more) as well as attractive bonuses such as a poster and CD version with seven additional tracks recorded in 1990 (taken from the 2001 CD re-issue), “Where No Life Dwells” remains a landmark album by the long-running Swedes. Enjoy an utterly dark milestone of death metal!
“Where No Life Dwells” is available in the following limitations:

All maniacal collectors please take note that due to the fact the original silver sleeve was harder to re-create than expected, there are 150-200 units across all colours circulating which lack this silver effect. Call yourselves lucky if you have one as these are the rarest vinyls out there.
Avatar have debuted yet another visually sunning music video for their track 'The Eagle Has Landed'. Directed by long-time collaborator Johan Carlén, this is the first official music video we've seen from the band off their forthcoming LP. Vocalist Johannes Eckerström explains:
"During the past few months I've ended up saying "this is our most ambitious work to date" quite a bit, but this one takes the cake. While still keeping it in the family we've created yet a new universe for everyone to get immersed in. A fable is a metaphor to explore the human condition and we've taken it one step further, zooming in on one song and what it has to say in and out of itself beyond the frames of the concept of 'Feathers & Flesh.'"
This is the story of five conmen travelling around the land, selling their snake oil to the easily persuaded people of the soil. Often when we want karma to bite someone's ass the most, they always seem to get away. It was fun to play the bad guy for once. I think the visuals and our treatment of the classic one take-concept speaks for itself. This is one of those you'll want to watch over and over again. I know I'm already doing just that. Enjoy!"

With past works being buzz-worthy videos like "Bloody Angel", "Hail The Apocalypse" and the 2015 Loudwire "Best Rock video of the year" video for "Vultures Fly", Avatar continues to raise the bar for what bands are doing visually in the current state of hard rock and metal.
Avatar will release their very first concept album titled "Feathers & Flesh" to be released on Friday, May 13, 2016 via Entertainment One (eOne) in North America and Canada and Another Century overseas. The new release will be the band's highly anticipated follow up to “Hail The Apocalypse” released in 2014, which cracked the Billboard Top 200 for the first time in the band's career.
The aim is set higher, further and deeper than ever before for Avatar. Not only is this concept album their most extensive work to date, showing the widest range of any of their albums, it also contains a story too extensive for any booklet, so they made a book. A fully illustrated 60 page, 109 verse poem hardcover book. The physical album pre order, book, and exclusive merchandise is available now.

Music For Nations have announced the release of Swedish progressive titans Opeth’s critically acclaimed live album, ‘Lamentations’. Originally released as a DVD the album will be available for the first time ever on triple heavy weight 180 gram vinyl.
Set for release on 22nd July 2016 and with new album art by long-time visual collaborator Travis Smith, ‘Lamentations’ will make a great addition to any Opeth fan’s collection.
Label manager Joel De’ath comments ‘
"Those who were at this Opeth show saw the band emerging from their chrysalis to become the force we know today. It's a pivotal moment in their career and it's been a pleasure to immortalize the recordings onto vinyl.’"
‘Lamentations’ features a live performance of Opeth’s Damnation album in full, interspersed with songs from the band’s masterpieces Blackwater Park and Deliverance. Conceived and recorded alongside Deliverence, Damnation marked a radical shift in style and tone. The band took the opportunity to move away from their earlier death metal sound and towards a style reminiscent of 1970's progressive rock, taking inspiration from their Blackwater Park collaborator and producer Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree).
‘Lamentations’ was recorded live at the prestigious Shepherd’s Bush Empire venue, shortly after both albums were released. Having celebrated their 25th anniversary as a band last year, alongside re-issuing Deliverance & Damnation, Opeth are returning to the live circuit in 2016. The band will be making appearances at an extensive series of European festivals, as well as returning for a headline performance at Wembley Arena on 19th November 2016.

Amaranthe, the Gothenburg sextet known for fusing melodic metal with contemporary production and cool EDM elements, have been added to the bill of the inaugural ‘Rock On Green’ festival at the O2 Forum, Kentish Town, North London.
Amaranthe will appear directly below headliner Tarja Turunen (Finnish soprano and original Nightwish front-woman) on a bill that features new & established names from the worlds of symphonic, power and gothic metal.
At the moment, Amaranthe are hard at work on their fourth studio album – the follow-up to ‘Massive Addictive’ (2014). This latest outing is set for release in the autumn of 2016, and as with all of the band’s work, it will be issued via Spinefarm Records worldwide.
From the gutters of south Sweden, Liv “Sin” Jagrell emerged as a major force as the vocalist for hard rockers Sister Sin. Throughout their 13 year career, Sister Sin sold thousands of albums and toured the world with high profile tours supporting the likes of Slayer and King Diamond on the Rockstar Mayhem festival tour, as well as being a part of the Revolver Magazine ”Hottest Chicks in Metal” tour. Sister Sin toured relentlessly for over a decade across Europe and North America garnering an intensely loyal following of rockers that craved the band’s aggressive and melodic brand of hard rock.
When Sister Sin called it quits at the end of 2015, Liv knew that she had much more to give to her fans. From this, Liv SIn was born. Liv is currently working on a new music that shows the power, sexiness, and attitude that she is known for. Liv says ”for me it has never been an option to stop singing. I live for the stage and for my fans. I still miss Sister Sin, but I am very excited to work on my own project, and I can promise it will not be some soft pop rock. This is going to be metal deluxe, because that’s who I am!" Liv SIn offers a modernized hard rock sound to take Liv into her next phase, a sound that is destined to please both new fans and her long-time fans of Sister Sin.
Swedish Heavy Metal heroes Sabaton are currently working on their new studio album, entitled "The Last Stand", which is going to be released worldwide on August 19th through Nuclear Blast.
"We once work again with Peter Tägtgren in his newly upgraded and top class Abyss studio in Sweden to record, produce and mix the album. The mastering will be done by Jonas Kjellgren who also works in the same building in nice Pärlby on the countryside of Sweden. Both 'Carolus Rex' and 'Heroes' were done in the same way and we feel very comfortable to return to the same place and people again. Fans will recognize the sound of the album as Sabaton, but we really feel we took it a step forward this time", says Pär Sundström.
The artwork on the album is made by Peter Sallaí who has been with Sabaton since 'Carolus Rex'. Pär Sundström explains:
"We had the idea to make an image reflecting soldiers of different times representing the different historical battles we sing about on the new album. This only reveals a small part of the album topics though".
"The concept of a last stand has always fascinated me, and both me and Pär were ”all in excited” about the subject so it was an easy choice to make", says vocalist Joakim Broden about the album title 'The Last Stand'.
"We always have several ideas for albums to work with. Since there are countless different views and angles of war, we will unfortunately never run out of ideas. We kinda felt that the last stand was something perfect for Sabaton. Something we really wanted to do. Heroes was a perfect theme and The Last Stand is right down our alley too. It was exciting to do the research", adds Sundstöm.
Few more weeks until the final work is done. But everyone in the Sabaton camp is more than satisfied. Joakim Broden sums it up: "Did any other artist ever say ”Our new album is the best we ever made”? That’s not for us to decide, that’s up to our fans..."
