Australian proggers Ironstone unveil single & official video for "Shiny Things"

28/2/2022

Picture

Melbourne progressive metal outfit Ironstone release ‘Shiny Things’, their first single for 2022. "Shiny Things" pushes and pulls between heavy, low tuned percussive guitars and a groovy vibe, all the while slamming down riffs, hooks, and melody galore. Exploring a somewhat quirky feel the band has managed to inject fun into an otherwise heavy, hard-hitting track. With a mix of clean and extreme vocals, catchy choruses and crushing breakdowns, "Shiny Things" takes the listener on quite a ride. There’s also a clear message in the lyrics about the downside of being too focused on material things and forgetting what’s really important.

"Shiny Things" is accompanied by a very entertaining video, where the band really allows their personality to shine through. The video tells the story of a lonely guy who’s trying to fill the void in his life by purchasing ‘stuff’ from TV infomercials. In a strange twist and ‘groundhog day’ style of repetition, he eventually discovers the thing he REALLY needs.

The band says…

“We had a lot of fun writing Shiny Things and an absolute blast making the video. We’re bombarded on a daily basis with advertising and a glossed over version of reality, and it’s all too easy to become drawn in. We saw an opportunity to poke a bit of fun while still demonstrating that the things we desire don’t always bring happiness, and a shiny exterior doesn’t always mean quality within.”

"Shiny Things" was mixed by Chris Themelco of Monolith Studios and mastered by Acle Kahney of Tesseract. It comes as a follow up to Ironstone’s late November release, ‘Mr. Struggle.

Ironstone is having a launch show for ‘Shiny Things’ on Thursday 3rd of March at Stay Gold in Melbourne. Joining them on the night are Suspyria and Nth Rd.

Tickets are available through Eventbrite here: https://bit.ly/3sFQYeO

IRONSTONE are:

  • Dan Charlton - Lead Vocals
  • Edward Warren - Lead Guitar, Vocals
  • Aidan Kalms - Rhythm Guitar
  • Oliver Hosking - Bass Guitar
  • Jackson Whyte - Drums, Vocals

Finnish post-hardcore / modern metal ‘violent pop’ outfit Blind Channel have released their brand new single ‘Bad Idea’, taken from the forthcoming album Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous out July 8th via Century Media Records. The album is available to pre-order here.

Speaking about the new track the band say:-

“‘Bad Idea’ is a serenade of self-pity and an unsuccessful apology. In the lyrics, we’re getting personal and digging deeper than ever. The song came to life many years ago, when relationships ended in a very ugly manner and all you could think of was: ”well I warned you.”

"Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous" is the band’s fourth studio album and also features previously released singles including ‘Dark Side’, ‘Balboa’ and ‘We Are No Saints’.

Regarding the album the band say:-

“This album is a memento of the toughest, yet the best couple of years in our lives. We captured the ups and downs, ranging from the point of breaking down to finally blowing up. We wouldn’t change a note. Come witness the Lifestyles Of The Sick & Dangerous.”

Finnish melodic metal band Dead End Finland released a new single and music video 'Northern Winds'. The track is taken from the upcoming fifth studio album which is released later this year by Inverse Records.

Watch 'Northern Winds' music video: https://youtu.be/7HvKlU0C800

Guitarist & Bass player Santtu Rosén comments:

"One of the strengths of Dead End Finland has always been the ability to turn a difficult situation into a resource. So when the corona storm was raging, we decided to throw ourselves into the wind and draw strength from it.

During the darkening evenings of autumn, we wrote more material and soon we were in a situation where making a full length album was a better option than the originally planned EP. "Northern Winds" is the opening track of the upcoming album and it tells the story of a situation where an individual has to face an impending threat and follow his instincts in order to survive."

Lebanese thrash / groove metal titans Phenomy have today announced the release of their blistering new album 'Syndicate Of Pain', unleashed March 3rd 2022, with animation video ‘Lead Me To My Throne’ out now. ’Syndicate Of Pain’ is a concept album about an asylum ran by Dr Anton Shuman, a mad scientist that is manipulating criminals and patients labelled insane in his facility. The album later reveals that these patients are not being cured, but are part of a bigger and darker project, that even Dr Schuman himself is being deceived by. Pre-order, pre-save & find the track-listing here: www.phenomyofficial.com

The 10-track studio album follows on from four new singles:-

  • ‘Bone Orchid’ reflecting dreams of a dead orchid, the ghost of a flower, grieving the death of mother nature: https://youtu.be/Quhqm5jjNXs

  • ‘The Mute, The Deaf, The Blind’ depicting imprisonment in society, wishing for death:   https://youtu.be/PSzpCJzGnEg

  • 'Ominous' depicting a paranoid patient, possessed by internal voices taking control, leading toward gruesome consequences: https://youtu.be/izFaJMGlk4w

  • 'Lead Me To My Throne’, the animated music video unleashed to coincide with the album. A serial killer, talking about the things he has done, asking for redemption, asking the god above for forgiveness. Admitting he's not in control of himself when he turns into a monster:  https://youtu.be/j_Px1MDMNM4

“So Grim, So True, So Real”. Hallowed words that ring true for metalheads the world over, particularly for those living in far-flung corners of the earth where freedom of expression and socio-political upheaval makes it almost impossible to follow your passions.

Formed in 2014, the mission from the start was to create music in the vein of traditional and modern groove and thrash metal. The dystopian nature of 1980s and 1990s metal releases rang true for many a music fan in war-torn regions globally. This was no different, they in hearted the street spirit that many of those early metal classics were based upon and bridged it to meet their own reality.

With two previous albums, numerous tours across Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Serbia and beyond, and major festival appearances at the likes of Wacken and Metalhead Meeting under their belt, Phenomy are excited to be heading into 2022 with an even bigger future ahead of them, fuelled by ‘Syndicate Of Pain’.

Romanian avant garde metallers Katharos XIII release new video and announce new album

Two years after the release of their sensational "Palindrome" album, Timisoara, Romania based Katharos XIII announce the release of their fourth opus this Spring, a new collaboration with Loud Rage Music. The first single Neurastenia is now online below.

Emilian Matlak, the band's founding member, spoke about the new single and album:

"Neurastenia was filmed and directed by Alexandru Das and represents only a frame of a certain piece of emotion transmitted to us in a universal frequency by a group of dead cosmonauts from the future.

They still float through the cosmos and send signals with life experiences, hopes, tragedies as a part of a chthonian collective conscience. In this case the first transmission - Neurastenia - is about seclusion, alienation, spleen feelings and the difficulty of finding a daily reason for existence. The new album will encapsulate six different dreams delivered from the times when the itinerant cosmonauts had a telluric existence. We like the words of Kurt Vonnegut and the imagery of Andrei Tarkovski, so we tried to embed this in our aesthetics and in every word or expression to resonate with our own personal philosophy."

More details about the concept, recording process and the release date of the full-length will follow in the near future.
