TÝR once again collaborated with Jacob Hansen at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark. Along with Hansen, the band recruited acclaimed drummer George Kollias to act as studio drummer and Leaves' Eyes vocalist Liv Kristine joined vocalist / guitarist Heri Joensen for a vocal duet on "The Lay of Our Love."
The opening track to the album, "Blood of Heroes," is streaming now at metalblade.com/tyr, where "Valkyrja" is also available for pre-order. Limited edition pre-order bundles are available that include TÝR rune pendants, t-shirt, vinyl LP, and the CD. About "Valkyjra": "Valkyrja" is a concept album with a story line based loosely around an anonymous Viking age warrior who leaves his woman and goes off to impress the Valkyrie on the battlefield so that she may bring him to Valhalla, or to Fólkvangr, the home of Freyja — the goddess associated with love, sexuality, beauty, fertility, gold, sorcery, war, and death. One can say the album is also indirectly about women and how they affect men and what men will do to impress and obtain women. Front man and founder Heri Joensen goes on to explain; "the woman that the warrior leaves may represent the earthly women. Freyja, The Lady Of The Slain, may represent the perfection of Women, and the Valkyrie is the link between the two, taking men from earthly to godly women." The video is the band's first official music video, not counting previous videos composed of live footage, and was directed by Alexander Kraudelt and Lukas Hambach, produced by Frameshock, with additional visuals by Craig Murray. "Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish in Dreams" is streaming now on metalblade.com/theocean.
Guitarist and founding member Robin Staps comments: "This clip is blending performance footage with excerpts from Craig Murray's 'Pelagial' movie, which was released along with the limited edition CD and vinyl boxset versions of the album. We've never really done a clip like that before, but it was great fun making this." 'Pelagial', the latest album from The Ocean, has been received with open arms and ears across the globe: "this is a band that are becoming widely regarded as leaders within their genre". Metal Sucks declared that The Ocean have "never written more intriguing music" in their 5/5 review. Spin recognised the band's diversity with "Mastodon‐shaped footprints, lush strings… [before] the submarine crashes at Melvins tempos". Decibel noted a band who have "become more luxurious, experimental and textural", Terrorizer heard an album "ambitious and adventurous", whilst Kerrang were bowled over by "melodrama, intimacy, grandeur, grace and big f**king riffs." RockARolla, bastions of taste at the experimental end of heavy music, emphasised how revered The Ocean currently are: "With Isis gone, no one has yet taken their place as intelligent and sensitive masters of post‐metal but, with this, there's no doubt that The Ocean are shoe‐ins for the title." The latter's emphasis is fitting considering The Ocean recently toured a number of sell out shows with another master of post‐metal, Cult of Luna. The Mastodon reference is relevant after they invited The Ocean out for their summer tour dates, and the diversity on display is never more apparent when you consider tours in the past few years with Dillinger Escape Plan, Opeth and Anathema. The Ocean has an army of fans, and undoubtedly the respect of their peers. Diverse elements are honed and perfected on 'Pelagial', and this ethos is at the heart of the touring package for The Ocean's headline European tour. For an album that treads a wild and creative path within and outside of the supposed boundaries of metal, Norway's SHINING could not be a more appropriate addition to the touring bill. Their new album 'One One One' was recently released and it's direct and pulsating approach is gathering the same kind of response that saw 2010's 'Blackjazz' get rave reviews all over the world, with contemporaries such as Danko Jones and Mike Portnoy writing pieces praising the band. If you've seen them live then you'll know how good they are; if you've not, you need to! Check out the teaser at this location.
The follow-up to the band's 2007, self-released debut, "Abyss", "Opaque" will be released on September 20th in Germany, September 23rd in the UK and the rest of Europe and October 1st in North America through Apostasy Records. "Opaque" was produced together with Lasse Lammert at LSD-Studio in Lübeck, Germany. Artwork comes courtesy of Ben Borucki (Irrleuchten). The band comments admits that: "By suppressing our deepest feelings and by concealing our fears and emotions we mask our inner self. This topic runs like a red thread through our new album. No other title would fit the content better than "Opaque". The artwork, which was done by Ben Borucki, captures this atmosphere perfectly and creates a symbiosis between the music, the lyrics and the art." Tracklist 01. iNnerME 02. Torn To Shreds 03. The band has already displayed all of these qualities on their debut album, "Abyss", recorded at the Soundlodge Studio with producer Joerg Uken (God Dethroned, Izegrim a.o.). After the release of their debut, Nailed To Obscurity focused their energies on progressing as a band and elevated themselves to the next level through numerous shows and their consistent pursuit of musical refinement. The results have clearly paid off with their newest masterpiece, "Opaque". www.facebook.com/nailedtoobscurity www.apostasyrecords.com Guardian - New Band Of The Day – “... a perfected version of sci-fi metal, as though some crazy scientist had created some future hybrid of the Prodigy and Pantera, or Slipknot and Skrillex”

Wormholedeath will distribute and market the new album from Spanish Death Metal assault Barbarian Prophecies titled “XIII”. The release date is set for early autumn 2013. You can stream the album preview here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvILHsLNH5M The band stated: “We are very proud to announce that our next album, “XIII”, will be released under the label WormHoleDeath, which makes us one of the first Spanish bands in being part of this label. After having self-released our previous record, “Remember the Fallen”, we decided that it was necessary to count with the support of a label to give greater international projection to our work. For this reason, and after assessing the options that we had, we think that WHD was the record label that is more suited to our needs. Their professionalism and interest in the band provides the security that their work will be thinking in seeking the best for Barbarian Prophecies. Also want to thank our agency “Lost Penguin Conspiracy” by the management in the process from the first minute, always looking for the best for the band, and without which we had not reached this agreement.” |
