In November of 2015, the Iranian metal duo, Nikan "Siyanor" Khosravi and Arash "Chemical" Ilkhani, were arrested in November of 2015 by the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution and had some serious charges levied against them: blasphemy, advertising against the system, running an illegal and underground band and record label promoting music considered to be Satanic, writing anti-religious lyrics and granting interviews to forbidden foreign radio stations. At the time, we reported the band faced a maximum penalty of six years in prison, or worse, execution. Very little was public about the case at the time.
Today, Metal Injection published an interview with Nikan "Siyanor" Khosravi, offering his first public comments since the arrest.
Nikan offers an update on the trial, discusses how he discovered metal and reveals words of encouragement he's gotten from the likes of Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, Arch Enemy's Alissa White-Gluz and even Eminem.

London metallers Savage Messiah will be flying the flag for British heavy metal in front of an audience of millions tonight, as the band are due to appear on Channel 4 News on national TV at 7pm.
The band were interviewed for the segment this morning by Channel 4's Culture and Digital Editor, Paul Mason, to talk about their recent grant awarded by the British government as part of the Music Export Growth Scheme.
The Music Export Growth Scheme was established by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and the BPI (British Recorded Music Industry, formerly British Phonographic Institute) to provide financial help to British artists in order to support international touring and promotion. Savage Messiah were among fourteen artists to be selected for the grant, out of over a thousand applicants.
Savage Messiah frontman Dave SIlver also talked about his upcoming participation in Heavy Metal Truants, a charity bike ride started by Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood and Metal Hammer Editor-in-Chief Alexander Milas, which last year raised almost £100,000 for Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust and Childline. The 161-mile ride starts off at Alexandra Palace in London on June 11th, and ends outside the Download Festival at Donington Park on June 13th.
Savage Messiah comment:
"We had a great time working with the folks from Channel 4 today; it's certainly going to be weird to be on the news! But kudos to the guys for having the bravery to put metal on the tele! I'm sure a few eyebrows will be raised! Make sure you tune in!!!"
