After more than two decades of silence, Finnish cult black/epic metallers and pioneers of the scene Darkwoods My Betrothed carve their long-awaited comeback in stone by signing a worldwide record deal with Napalm Records!
In 2020, the old horde from the original line-up rejoined forces, now augmented by former session keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen as a full member of the band, bringing a significant contribution to the creative process, and Kai Hahto (both Nightwish) as session drummer.
Founded in 1993 in Kitee, Finland, Darkwoods My Betrothed quickly gained a cult status in the black metal underground. In 1995, they released their debut album, Heirs of the Northstar, followed by second album, Autumn Roars Thunder (1996), and Witch-Hunts (1998). Shortly after, the pagan flame of Darkwoods My Betrothed became but a fleeting glimpse in the nocturnal darkness of Eastern Finland. But it never faded away completely.
Be prepared for an onslaught of melodic black metal and epic majesty!

Finnish extreme metallers Progeny of Sun release 'Dark Wanderer' EP along with music video 'Eclipse'
Finnish extreme metal band Progeny Of Sun released their new EP Dark Wanderer via Inverse Records. To celebrate the release the band also released a music video for Eclipse track.
Watch Eclipse music video: https://youtu.be/nAafZPI-Ji0
The band comments:
"We think this is a huge improvement from the first EP. The sounds and texts have gotten increasingly dark and gained a pressuring twist. All in all, the material feels more unified this time around even though we have more people behind it. Vocals are bit more straightforward compared to the first EP, still with a lot of variance, but with more taste.
This EP summarizes well the direction we want to take our music, and the next album will be killer. The video is also an absolute cracker especially considering it's fully our own making. Joni did absolutely amazing job getting it done. We think the video also summarizes our energy and enthusiasm precisely. The video shoot was easy, we just played the song as we would with an audience. We had only one small setback when the person who was supposed to shoot the video got quarantined because of coronavirus. Fortunately, Joni was able to step up and with little additional help from our "manager" we handled the situation well."

Finnish violent pop / metal crew Blind Channel to bring the 'Dark Side' to Eurovision 2021 as Finland's entry.
Finland are looking to repeat history as they eye up their second Eurovision Song Contest victory. Their entrant this year is Blind Channel, a band that have been sprinting past milestones and crushing their rival’s records with their enormous anthemic entry ‘Dark Side’.
‘Dark Side’ has become a #1 smash hit on the Finnish singles chart and has remained in the top 10 airplay charts for over 10 weeks, with the song now reaching platinum.
Is metal going to bring Finland the gold yet again? Listen to the song here and watch the official lyric video here.
It was written as a reaction to the global pandemic that forced the music industry to a grinding halt, synonymously crushing all the band’s 2020 touring plans. Frustration, isolation and depression gave birth to an anthem for the people, and the Eurovision Song Contest has proved to be the perfect vessel to spread their message.
Niko Vilheim, one of the band's two vocalists shares his thoughts:-
“What we really needed at that low point was an anthem for ourselves, a song that gives the finger to life itself. That’s how ‘Dark Side’ came into life. It really was an instant anthem. ’Dark Side’ is a song that’s meant to be performed together with an audience, as a kind of communal experience. Now we needed to find that audience, and we knew that there were lots of people out there who felt exactly like we did.”
After entering the track into the UMK (Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu = New Music Competition), the Finnish qualifying round for the Eurovision Song Contest itself, the sextet came away annihilating all their fellow competitors by achieving the highest score in the competition’s history and becoming the first UMK entry to hit the top of the charts.
Now with their sights firmly set on the finish line, the band will be the 14th act to perform at the second semi-final on May 20th, and if successful on the night, will perform again at the finals on May 22nd.
The competition finale will also feature performances from past winners of the competition, including Finland’s previous winning act and hard rock heroes Lordi who dominated the 2006 event with ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’.
Finland has long been known for its love of heavy music, with international superstar acts such as Hanoi Rocks, HIM, Nightwish, Children of Bodum, Apocalyptica and The Rasmus all enjoying major global success. Now the world will be adding Blind Channel to that list.
Blind Channel were formed in 2013 in the city of Oulu, way up in the North of Finland, by a group of five talented, determined and ambitious friends – vocalists Joel Hokka and Niko Vilhelm, drummer Tommi Lalli, guitarist Joonas Porko and bass player Olli Matela. This fivesome has stuck together to this day, in the spirit of the 2018 sophomore album Blood Brothers, each of them collectively responsible for the songwriting.
Last year saw the addition of a new member, as long time friend Alex Mattson joined to play keyboard, samples and percussion and completes the current line up. Following the release of their 2020 album Violent Pop, ‘Dark Side’ is the band’s first taste of music from an upcoming album due for release early next year, working with renowned UK producer Dan Lancaster (Blink 182, Bring Me The Horizon, Don Broco).

Finnish groove metallers Solution 13 sign with Wormholedeath & announce "Chapters From Private Hell" album
Finnish metal band Solution 13 have signed a deal with Wormholedeath for the release of their second album “Chapters From Private Hell" worldwide.
“Chapters from Private Hell is a metal album, that has quite a lot of rock influences. We tried to mix big riffs with big hooks, it’s up to listener to decide how we succeeded. Late 2020 we got in contact with Wormholedeath, and pretty soon we signed a deal with them.”
Solution 13 is a band hailing from Oulu, Finland and operating between rock and metal including the best of both worlds in their music. The band features former and recent members from bands like Poisonblack, Afterworld, Liverbox, Wengele, National Napalm Syndicate and Bleeding Utopia (Swe) etc. Originally the band was already formed back in 2000 and it released its debut album simply called Solution 13 (2003) through a small Finnish indie label Low frequency records, but split up soon after that, while all the members were busy with other musical projects. New album was recorded at Oulu during summer 2020 and it was mixed by Kari Vähäkuopus (Catamenia, Burning Point, Poisonblack etc.) and mastered at Finnvox studios by legendary Mika Jussila (Nightwish, Children of Bodom, Stratovarius, Amorphis etc.).

Finnish modern melodic death metal band Dimman is set to release their debut album ‘Songs and Tales of Grievance’ on July 30th 2021 via Inverse Records. The band’s modern melodic death metal combines beautiful melodies, heavy compositions and technical musicality into a unique ensemble. In addition to the diverse instrumentation, Dimman’s two vocalists create a distinctive and balanced soundscape.
The band released a first single Paroxysm and music video can be seen here: https://youtu.be/lm02EnUCEps
Guitarist Jaakko Yli-Sorvari states that:-
“Paroxysm showcases all the elements Dimman is made of. Beautiful melodies, heavy riffs and technical musicianship are all married together forming a catchy soundscape. Paroxysm tells the story of human arrogance and the clouding of one’s judgement.”
The album addresses all the grievances and insecurities that cause misery to both individuals and communities. The incapability to be able to affect the injustices results in frustration, which can be heard from every song on the album. 'Songs and Tales of Grievance’ is mixed and mastered by Santeri Peltomäki (Entropy Mixing) whose powerful production supports the band’s versatile compositions.

Multi-national melodic metallers Angel Nation have just released a music video for their new single "Fly Away".
Angel Nation are currently working on the band's third album, but they've made a pit stop on this journey by releasing an extra special song "Fly Away". Some time ago a long term supporter approached Elina to ask if she would write a song to his son's memory. She read the story behind it which turned out to be very moving and sad. However, when hearing more and looking more closely, it was the positivity and joy that shone through. A song dedicated to the memory of Leif Ole, someone who touched so many hearts, kept laughing, showing others how to enjoy the small things. Someone whose smile will never die in the hearts of those who got to know him.
Musically "Fly Away" has the true Angel Nation sound, bringing back the old school band feel and 80’s vibes. This ballad combines a more intimate, acoustic approach and a full rock sound being delicate, strong, sad and joyful, all at the same time!
"We are thrilled to be releasing new music and hope this song will bring positivity in the midst of what has been a hard year for many of us. If you want to support us on our way to our third full-length album, you can purchase and stream this single on the usual digital platforms."

Finland's heavy doom metal band Byron present their new music video "Oktober", taken from their forthcoming new album "The Omega Evangelion". The debut release is scheduled for March 26th, 2021 (Goatmancer Records).
Check it out here:- https://youtu.be/fs3wQ8WCINk
The band shared their thoughts:-
"Oktober" is the only track in the forthcoming album "The Omega Evangelion", that I did not write the lyrics to but handed the task over to Christoffer Frylmark. He did the lyrics and the arrangements with the Swedish vocals to the demos and I crafted the English chorus melodies to the text in a hurry in studio while Johanna was already doing her vocals on other songs.
We rehearsed the chorus with Johanna about 5 minutes with a loop before the red light, while Tuomas (Kokko, the producer) was seeing his kids that were watching cartoons next room. Johanna exceeded herself in this song, singing the highest notes she had probably ever sung. Totally brilliant work from her, the whole album. (fun fact "The Omega Evangelion" being her first "metal" album done, but as an ex-vocal student of -one of them to mention-, Noora Louhimo, I expected nothing but the best from her).
"Oktober" is the third and final single taken from the forthcoming full-length album. The song is metaphorical story about loss and spiritual, comforting death, written by Christoffer Frylmark and composed by Johannes Lahti.
The music video of the song was shot in five hours at two different rehearsal spaces with no script, just me (Johannes) and Markus (Vähäaho, Raw Art Creations) throwing ideas to one another, me changing clothes and instruments and asking Johanna what to do. As Byron started as a one man project, I wanted to have a reference to it in the video, playing all the instruments and the roles of every band member, excluding the vocalists, that is.
Christoffer shot his parts at his home in Sweden that were added to the final result with the video material from the studios last summer, showing the dedication of the producer Mr. Kokko (Electric Fox Studios) and bits and pieces of Mr. Puusaari and Mr. Vahvanen recording the guitar tracks of the album."
Finnish metalcore band I At Last released their new single 'Wake'. The track is taken from the upcoming debut EP "Magenta" which is to be released on March 26th 2021 via Inverse Records. Although I At Last declare themselves representatives of the metalcore genre, the EP embodies the band's distinctive sound, breaking the prejudices associated with said genre.
Guitarist Roope Lappalainen says:
"Influences for the EP can be found in several different genres, but in the end when someone asks what I At Last sounds like, I would say it sounds like us. The sound of ‘Magenta’ creates a good overall picture of who we are and what kind of music we want to create."
The five-track "Magenta" EP reaches just over 26 minutes and is released entirely in digital form.

Join the prophetic aura of the blue orb and dive into the sombre twilight of a cinematic metal ode: Finland's Dark Sarah unveil a beautiful live version of “Melancholia”, taken from their astonishing fourth studio album, Grim. Released in July 2020, this beguiling new dimension, coalescing between crystal-clear vocals and propulsive hardness, draws you into the tempestuous maelstrom of their horror fantasy theme.
Following previously-unveiled live videos for “Aquarium” and “Iceheart”, “Melancholia” marks another highlight of Dark Sarah's album release show, where they played Grim in Helsinki back in August 2020. With this breathtaking performance the five-piece pulls its listener straight into another dimension while satiating the need for live experiences that are missed so much these days!
Watch the mythical live video for “Melancholia” NOW!
Heidi’s vigorous, yet melancholic soprano-like voice suffuses the rough soundscapes and merges with an irresistible narrative. With the help of a blue orb, the protagonist of the song, Luna, gains the magical power to see her past, helping her to reflect all occurrences and unveil the truth of why her heart had been frozen.
Heidi Parviainen states:
"'Melancholia' is a dark (and maybe the saddest) song on Grim, yet it is also very powerful. In my opinion, it also contains the most beautiful guitar solo of the album. 'Melancholia' is the name of a blue orb which provides magical powers to the protagonist Luna. In the song, Luna sees into her past through the orb and learns what has happened to her. She lives through her longings and loneliness once again."
