England's Jon Davis (Conan) reveals solo project Ungraven

Jon Davis of legendary British doom metal band Conan is pleased to announce his new solo project Ungraven which showcases his love of 90's metal.

In Jon's own words:-

"I am a huge fan of Fudge Tunnel, Ministry, Godflesh, Sepultura and Nailbomb. I fell in love with ‘For All Those Who Died’ by Bathory on Headbangers Ball and also the ‘Speed Kills’ comp. Since then I have referenced these bands in some of Conan’s material. With Ungraven I pay homage to the industrial sounds emanating from Birmingham in the 90s with a few other influences that I’ve been obsessing over for a while. It’s super heavy but sightly different from what I have done so far.”

Ungraven's debut album will be released in spring of 2019, but to celebrate the announcement, Davis has released the track "Blackened Gates of Eternity" on Bandcamp.

Listen to the song here: https://ungraven.bandcamp.com/album/demos

More information on Ungraven will be coming soon.

Metal giants Epica have launched a short teaser from their upcoming release 'Beyond The Matrix - The Battle' – a unique collaboration with the Dutch Grammy-award winning Metropole Orkest.

In the summer of 2017, with the help from their massive fan base, Epica won a high-profile competition organized by the Metropole Orkest. First prize was a recording of a song of their choice with the orchestra. In between Epica‘s heavy touring schedule, the band was able to conjure up a unique, never-before-seen 'Big Band meets Symphonic Metal' rendition of 'Beyond the Matrix'. As a bonus to all voters, runner-up in the competition and friend of the band, Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon)  contributed a beautiful guest-solo to the song.

Simone Simons comments:

"The short teaser of 'Beyond The Matrix - The Battle' gives you a small preview of our upcoming release. Never before did we have such a unique collaboration as with the Metropole Orkest. Expect to be blown away, literally and figuratively!”

Blood Spattered Axe Records in conjunction with Guts ´n´ Blood Records are proud to reveal the track-list and the artwork cover of "Ancient Grave Ascension", the debut full length Rotten Evisceration, a putrefying death metal band from Peru; with strong shades of classic death metal which will see the light of day on November 1st. 2018.

It will be released on a three-panel digipak format, with exclusive artwork done by Indonesian artist Raymond Art (Stigmatuary, Decomposed, Bloodshed, Neoplassis, Swarm Of Serpents, Slaves Of Suffering…)

Featuring a raw death metal sound resulting from the mix of technique, brutality and harsh guitar solos, their concept album and lyrics are focused on telling horror stories and necrophilic fantasies with the undead. It is similar to a horror movie that instead of using images we do it through our powerful and insane guitar riffs attached to crushing drums.

Sweden's Night Crowned to release "Humanity Will Echo Out" EP via Black Lion Records

29/9/2018

Picture

Night Crowned is the degenerated infant of the current and the past members of The Crown, Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System. Their debut mini CD is slated for the worldwide release on November 30, 2018 via Black Lion Records.

"“Nocturnal Pulse” is a dynamic affair, in which elements of black metal and death metal play a role, in which raw, howling yells, cold roars, and skin-splitting shrieks share the vocals, and in which the changing patterns of the music conjure feelings of both grievous melancholy and blood-rushing glory", No Clean Singing is currently streaming the second track, Nocturnal Pulse, from the album.

Hear "Nocturnal Pulse" AT THIS LOCATION; Courtesy of No Clean Singing

In the frozen part of Europe's northernmost realm, a new slithering seed is festering at the heart of the Swedish scene — known as Night Crowned. A spawn formed from an unholy communion between the current and the previous members of the underground elite such as The Crown, Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System, this infestation is set to grow from a rumoured disease into a full-scale pandemic.

Night Crowned's musical vision is as clear as it is haunting and putrid; a reawakening of the sounds dormant from the most influential acts and masterpieces of the Scandinavian ‘90s, despite having advantages of a cutting edge, surgically precise production.

Picture

Despite hatching a combined catalogue of over twenty full-length albums, the seasoned and battle-hardened veterans of Night Crowned are still hungry like a gluttonous monster to procreate the dire melody charged blackened death music.

“Humanity Will Echo Out” is the first taste of Night Crowned’s sonic benefaction. This three-track-filled EP will be out on CD and in digital format through Black Lion Records on November 30, 2018.

India's Dirge premiere track on Decibel; announce debut album, releasing October 19th

Picture

Pune, India based sludgy doom outfit Dirge will release their debut album, Ah Puch, this October 19 on CD format.

Decibel Magazine premiered the 05th track, La Malinche, as the first snippet from the album. “The song explores the mindset of La Malinche, a woman who played a key role in orchestrating the genocide of the Aztec civilisation,” Dirge explain of the song’s lyrical concept. “The evil in her psyche is imagined as a physical manifestation of the ancient Mayan goddess of suicide, Ixtab.”, narrates the band on the track.

"The new song “La Malinche” moves at a funeral doom-like pace, dragging itself along on crawling riffs and the reverberating, howling vocals from singer Tabish Khidir. In addition to their sludgy influences, Dirge draw from more upbeat death/doom, offering brief respites from the lethargic pace of the song. It’s a welcome element that ultimately strengthens the song, which clocks in at over nine minutes."

– Vince Bellino, Decibel Magazine

Stream "La Malinche" At DECIBEL MAGAZINE, RIGHT HERE

DIRGE's debut offering "AH PUCH" is a concept album based on Mayan, Aztec Mythology mixed with historical events. The story revolves around the resurgence of the ancient Mayan God of Death - Ah Puch - during the conquest of Yucatan peninsula by Hernan Cortez. The music has been written to accentuate this theme, sending the listener through this fantastical world accompanied by a thick wall of sludge, and clouds of bong-smoke.  Though this is the band's debut album, with an ambitious concept behind it, the band are no strangers to the world of metal.

Formed in 2014, DIRGE started out as a band in Pune, a city then brimming with several acts in the local metal scene. They were unique from their peers, marked by a sheer dark, moving intensity and gritty heaviness in their music. The band soon found itself a full lineup and trudged forward ever since, winning fans, supporters and accolades over the next four years as a band and releasing a single along the way in 2015. They have played shows in the Indian underground circuit alongside contemporary acts in similar styles, like Primitiv, Shepherd, Djinn & Miskatonic and have opened for international acts such as CHU (Kazakhstan), Defiled (Japan) and performed at festivals like Bangalore Open Air (2015).

With Candlemass, Eyehategod, Neurosis, Sleep, Crowbar & Acid Bath as their primary influences, the band naturally found itself crafting a sludgy, grim and morose sound that channelled equal parts death-doom, New Orleans sludge, atmospheric post-metal & the melodic sensibilities of contemporary bands like Paradise Lost, YOB & Pallbearer - literally an amalgamation of sounds spanning three decades of slow and heavy music.

Ireland's Malthusian stream Invictus debut album at "Decibel" magazine's website

28/9/2018

Irish death metal mavericks Malthusian stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Across Deaths, at Decibel magazine's website. Set for international release on September 28th - Dark Descent will handle the album's North American release, while Invictus Productions will handle the rest of the world - hear Malthusian's Across Deaths in its entirety exclusively HERE.

Since their fateful first demo, MMXIII, in 2013, Malthusian have been a study in strident refinement and maverick poise. No move is ever out of place, nor any possibility unexplored; chaos may be waiting in the wings, but it is resisted and never fully/remotely sought. The hydra-headed quartet started on enviably firm footing from the very beginning - trace elements of bestial black metal, morbid death metal, and languorous doom, all mangled and minced with poetic ease - but what sprouted from that first demo and especially the subsequent Below the Hengiform EP two years later was something extraordinary indeed. This was black/death/doom ART taken to hallucinatory extremes...and Malthusian were only just beginning.

True, Across Deaths will be a "beginning" for many listeners otherwise new to Malthusian, but for those already well versed in the band's vortextural musings, the album-length format opens their world even wider. Peer inside and the visions of bottomless doom are writ large; obscene forms writhe and resist, each psychological tendril twisting to ever-beckoning infinity. That Malthusian can harness these sensations should be no surprise - both short-length predecessors seemed massive at the time (and still are) - but the sheer fact (not to mention the sheer audacity) that a band can so effortlessly take angular, largely atonal DEATH METAL and make it a seemingly cinematic experience should compel naysayers to finally investigate this malodorous of artforms. Naturally, for however adventurous their visions continue to be, Malthusian above all believe in the alternately damning/redemptive powers of heavy metal: diversity of expression comes from within, not without.

Further verbiage is simply wasted - the experience is all. No time like the present, then, to travel Across Deaths with Malthusian. Take the full, perilous journey exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine.
