Indian Folk Metallers Bloodywood release documentary video featuring live footage of their 2019 'Raj Against The Machine Tour'

Picture

After building a large online fan base with multiple viral videos, New Delhi based Indian Metal Band Bloodywood decided to take to the road in the summer of 2019 with their "Raj Against The Machine Tour", not only the band's first ever tour, but the first time they played live as a band. Bloodywood had no idea what to expect on their first ever tour but the response was far greater than they ever imagined selling out 12 shows on the 3 week tour, culminating in the band's set at WACKEN OPEN AIR.

Bloodywood further documented the tour through footage shot across a GoPro strapped to guitarist / flautist Karan Katiyar's chest, frenzied mobile phone footage shot by the audience and the band themselves, as well as world class footage shot at Wacken Open Air.

The documentary tells the story of how the band formed and their surreal Raj against the Machine tour. After an action packed opening sequence that captures the essence of the film within the span of a minute and a half, you witness the birth of Punjabi / dhol metal, its fusion with lyrically focused rap music, the natural progression into original compositions from covers and the solidification of a musical agenda that's hell bent on creating a positive impact on the planet.

After receiving an invitation to perform at the Mecca of heavy metal: The Wacken Open Air, the band sets out to answer a burning question: can an Indian folk metal band, an online sensation that's never performed live before cut it on the biggest stage of them all? You have to see it to believe it.

Picture

In preparation for the tour, the first time that two of the seven members had ever travelled abroad, Bloodywood spent around 200 hours preparing. Fans flew from Zurich, drove from Belgium, and biked from the Czech Republic to watch them perform in Germany and England; at one show, an Indian fan proposed to his German girlfriend with the help of the band in the middle of their set. In Germany, their midday set at the Wacken Open Air was packed to full capacity.; the audience was 15000 strong! Bloodywood also became only the second band in 2 years and the only non-headliner to be asked to play an encore at the Dong Open Air.

The tour, however, wasn't all smooth sailing though, with 2 members of the band falling sick after the first show of the tour and playing through the illness for the next 7 shows. Bloodywood also got stuck in a hurricane on their last day of the tour, their only day off. They were drunk when it hit and carried $1000s of dollars worth of equipment on their backs to escape.

The soundtrack for the documentary consists of only Indian independent music, including everything from metal to acoustic. The different kinds of footage will tell fans a lot about the documentary itself, with the GoPro footage showing the story from the band's side, the audience footage capturing the energy of the moment, and the professional footage at the end showing the evolution of the band over the course of the tour in all its cinematic glory.

Danish Death Metallers Pitchblack to release new album in October

29/7/2020

Picture

With two albums on their back (the first one, “Designed To Dislike”, being considered “the debut album of the year 2007” at MTV’s Danish Metal Awards), Pitchblack is undisputedly on the top of the Danish death metal scene. Their attraction to the Swedish typical brutality is obvious, but their soft spot for aggressive catchiness and surprising, rapid-fire hooks is what makes their approach to the style so special. 2020 is the year Copenhagen quartet return to full-length albums, with “Death & Disbelief”, an effort granted to make Scandinavia shake in its foundations. Eleven tracks of sheers brutality, fast hooks, and that sense of metal-no-frills that makes Denmark’s metal so appealing.

“Death & Disbelief" will be released in digital and LP by Emanzipation Productions, on October 23rd, 2020 and can be pre-ordered here.

Picture

Pitchblack was formed in 2002 and, five years later, their “Designed To Dislike” debut album made quite an impact in the Danish and European extreme metal scenes. Fast forward to 2010, and “The Devilty”, their second effort, continued the same path, even featuring Mercyful Fate’s Hank Sherman as guest in one of the solos of the album. The reactions to this record were of extremes: the cover artwork was banned in Germany for being too gore, but the festival promoters did take notice too, and soon Pitchblack was stepping in stages of events such as Download Festival (UK) or Copenhell (DK).

“Death & Disbelief” is, now, the third chapter of the quartet’s history. Where will it lead them?

Australian Metalcore mob Alpha Wolf unveil new single 'Creep'

Australian metalcore band, Alpha Wolf, unveil their latest single, “creep”. This is the second single, following “Akudama”, from the band’s forthcoming new album, a quiet place to die, due out on September 25th via SharpTone Records. Following up the band’s 2017 debut LP, Mono, and 2019 EP, Fault, a quiet place to die is an intense, 11-track collection dealing with loss, anxiety and animosity.

Stream the new track here: http://shrptn.co/creep
The album is available now for pre-order here: https://sharptonerecords.co/collections/alpha-wolf.

Vocalist Lochie Keogh states:-

"‘Creep’ vents on frustrations and betrayals faced growing up attending and playing shows in the heavy music scene. It wasn't long after first coming to shows I realised I was still in the same popularity contest that cast me out when I was younger."

An iron will is only ever hardened within the forge, and Australia’s fastest rising metalcore act Alpha Wolf have proven they are made of sterner stuff. The five-piece bared their teeth in 2019 with the release of their EP Fault in joint partnership with Greyscale Records and SharpTone Records, it became a line in the sand that set expectations for all that would follow.

The band played sold out shows across Australia both headlining, and in support of acts such as Polaris and August Burns Red; as well as a slew of international tours across Asia, Europe, and even dipping their toes in to the American market.

If Fault was the line in the sand however, Alpha Wolf desired to make their mark permanent, something etched in stone for all to see. The band needed to push themselves harder, the band needed to prove they were worthy of their name, the band needed a quiet place to die.

2020 sees Alpha Wolf bite harder than ever with their sophomore release a quiet place to die, the culmination of every lesson learnt, every hit taken, and every loss felt. a quiet place to die is the end result of five individuals who have faced the fire and refuse to flinch, pouring their every-thing into making something they are truly proud of. The path to this point has only made their thirst greater, and soon enough, the wolves will be out for blood.

Israeli Prog Metallers Subterranean Masquerade sign with Sensory Records; new album impending + teaser posted

New Jersey-based progressive metal source Sensory Records has signed Israel's long-running troupe Subterranean Masquerade. The band has recently completed their fourth LP, Mountain Fever, which is being prepared for release in the months ahead.

Subterranean Masquerade, which until recently was considered a cult studio project for fine taste followers, has transformed over the last two years into an exciting, colourful live act, mixing the traditions of heavy metal together with the aesthetics of world music performance, spiritual punk and pure rock 'n' roll. Praised by music journalists all over Europe and beyond, the band has taken over the stages, showcasing a distinctly audacious execution of their complex songwriting while maintaining an almost magical grip on their audience, reviewed as rave parties for metalheads.

Led by guitarist Tomer Pink, Subterranean Masquerade was previously fronted by Green Carnation vocalist Kjetle Nordhus and Novembers Doom's Paul Khur. The band officially announces its new line-up - a fully Israeli collective of musicians hand-picked from the top of Israel's prog scene - under which the band has been touring with and recording since 2018. Now, the band is heading towards new ground; the spearheads of Israeli progressive oriental metal are back with their most diverse album yet.

With their fourth LP, and sixth overall release, Mountain Fever was recorded between Golan Heights to Fascination Street Studio (engineered by David Castillo) and mixed by Jens Bogren (Leprous, Katatonia, Opeth). Here, Subterranean Masquerade continues pushing the balance between pioneering experimentalism to their own take on modern pop culture and its manifestation in the Middle East. Revealing an album comprised of African and Balkan brass sections, Arabic violins, extended vocal techniques, and several special guest appearances, the band explores radio friendly hooks that emerge out of heavy riffs and polychromatic arrangements.

See a brief teaser for Subterranean Masquerade's Mountain Fever RIGHT HERE. Watch for an official release date for Mountain Fever to be announced alongside full audio samples and much more over the coming months.

Subterranean Masquerade:

Davidavi (Vidi) Dolev - vocals
Tomer Pink - guitars
Shai Yallin - keys
Golan Farhi - bass

Danish Doom Metallers Demon Head sign worldwide deal with Metal Blade Records

Metal Blade Records is proud to welcome Denmark's Demon Head to its worldwide roster!

Though hesitant to compromise the description of the music they perform through generalizing terms of genre, Demon Head has coined the term "diabolic rock" as an appropriate presentation. The quintet's full-length debut, Ride The Wilderness (2015), is a youthful and hungry adventure exploring the boundless courage of classic rock music; Thunder on the Fields (2017) turned their inspirations further towards the strange and sinister purposes of life, a tendency followed and completed on Hellfire Ocean Void (2019), with its gothic, and nothing but otherworldly, song-writing and production. Fans can expect Demon Head's fourth album - due out early 2021 via Metal Blade Records - to continue down this sonic path.

The band comments: "The rudiments are unfolding. Unforgotten promises of friendship and dedication are bearing sweet, sweet fruit. We're nothing but excited and full of hope to have shaken hands with an as influential and willing partner as Metal Blade Records. No one knows what this will bring.
x o x o x o x o Demon Head"

Stay tuned for more news about Demon Head coming soon!

Demon Head line up:
Mikkel Sander Fuglsang - bass
Birk Gjerlufsen Nielsen - guitars
Marcus Ferreira Larsen - vocals
Thor Gjerlufsen Nielsen - guitars
Jeppe Wittus - drums

Icelandic Viking Metal giants Skálmöld will release their second live album and the first one as solo band 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík, on September 25, 2020 via Napalm Records. Three consecutive sold-out shows at the Gamla Bíó in their home town Reykjavík were the adequate setting to celebrate the 10th anniversary together with their devotees. 10 Year Anniversary - Live In Reykjavík transports the mythical atmosphere directly into their fans' homes

With propelling drums and heavy rhythms, underlined by Björgvin Sigurðsson’s unique vocals comes "Niðavellir“, the first single fresh off  the new live opus. The single, originally released on their 2016 album Vögguvísur Yggdrasils, leads the listener straight into Myrkheim, the land of the dwarves. "Niðavellir“ became one of Skálmöld’s trademark songs since then and in this live version, the energy coming from stage during the performance is palpable in every corner of Reykjavík's legendary Gamla Bíó.

Skálmöld on the CD / DVD / BLU-RAY:

“In late 2009 we started Skálmöld. Nothing serious. Was just supposed for the pure fun of meeting up once in a while to play some metal music. Fast forward 10 years and we are celebrating the release of 10 Years Of Skálmöld - Live in Reykjavík. Recorded in the heart of Iceland's capital at one of our 3 amazing sold out shows. Here is Skálmöld in its purest form - on stage, feeding on the energy of our beloved fans. We feel really proud and happy to present this to you.

Growing up and slowly beginning to descend into the world of metal music there was one album that really left its mark on my young self: Iron Maiden - Live After Death. At 10 years old, in awe, dreaming that one day I could play in a band, play shows, record it and release for others to enjoy was just that - a dream. But now all these years later my band celebrated 10 years of existence. 5 albums and countless shows all over Europe. We just had to capture this moment. So here it is. 10 Years Of Skálmöld - Live in Reykjavík. Here we are doing what we enjoy the most, playing a sweaty sold out show in front of our most dedicated fans. Well that was truly a night to remember. Skál!”

Napalm Death release "Backlash Just Because" single & lyric video; new album pre-orders available

U.K. grindcore pioneers Napalm Death, who recently announced the release of their first album in five years, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism (Sept. 18, Century Media Records), have released the first single and lyric video from the highly-anticipated album: “Backlash Just Because” (https://youtu.be/FFDHuCeaM_Y).

Napalm Death vocalist Mark “Barney” Greenway said of the track, which debuted yesterday on Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal with Jose Mangin:

“This song in particular really spurred me on when I was writing lyrics for the album overall. It’s raucous and traditional, but also quirky and discordant and ultimately catchy-as-anything in the context of rampaging noise. Lyrically it was directed at the spiteful art of creating easy targets and fomenting paranoia and revulsion, which is something that I feel has become de rigueur in very recent times. I really let loose on the more sporadic vocals at the end of the song – it’s a real barkfest at that point. Lovely.”

Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism is the eagerly-awaited follow-up to the band’s critically-acclaimed 2015 album, Apex Predator – Easy Meat, and is the sixteenth studio album effort by Napalm Death. It was again recorded with long time producer Russ Russell and features artwork by Frode Sylthe.

From the pinnacle of confrontational instrumental extremity and steadfast lyrical humanity, Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism warps musical landscapes all over again. The 12-song release is seething with caustic evolution and unrelenting scope.
