Godiva formed, in 1999 Famalicão, released their first recording as a promotional CD entitled Tales to be Untold (2000). Followed by the EP Traces of Irony (2002) recorded at Rec n'Roll Studios and produced by Rui Danim and Luís Barros (Tarântula). This EP was a significant mark in the band's affirmation on the scene. In 2007, Spiral emerges recorded at Ultrasound Studios and produced by Daniel Cardoso (Anathema) and, like its predecessor, played an important role in the band's consolidation in the Portuguese metal scene, gathering excellent reviews, national and international.

After an interregnum of 11 years, Godiva returns to the stage, debuting their new line-up and sound with a memorable concert at Vagos Metal Fest, accompanied by an orchestra of about 50 musicians and a sold out concert at Hard Rock Café Porto.

This year we were lucky, even with COVID-19 restrictions, enough to give two concerts this summer, both sold out: one in Lisbon, at RCA Club in a special edition of Laurus Nobilis Music Fest and recently on the latest edition of Riverstone Fest.

Portuguese gothic metallers Black Widows release third single and music video Schizo; second studio album out in October

Portuguese gothic metal band Black Widows released their third single and music video 'Schizo' from their upcoming second studio album Among the Brave Ones which is set to be released on October 21st 2022 via Finnish Inverse Records.

  • Watch Schizo music video: https://youtu.be/BLdSXY3ygHQ

Vocalist / guitarist Rute Fevereiro comments:

"Schizo was chosen to be our third single. It's a more complex song that honestly represents well the darkest side of our album. This song is all about hypocrisy, the need of showing positive thinking and smiles regardless of what you're going through, to the extend of worsening our mental health. This song is specially focused on someone I used to know who is described in these lyrics. The music is the perfect marriage with the words professed. There are lots of clowns in the real world, showing smiley faces and yet they feel miserable. I'm sure you all know someone like this."

Portuguese metal phenomenon Nameless Theory sign with Wormholedeath

Nameless Theory are tremendously happy and proud to announce that they are signing with Wormholedeath Records for the reissue of their debut album “Into the Void”, due for re-release on October 21st, 2022.

The band states:-

"For a couple of months now we’ve been talking to Carlo and his team at Wormholedeath and the feedback and working relation has been absolutely great, above all of our expectations! For us, it is an opportunity of a lifetime and one which we will not take for granted and work our butts off to make it work. Opportunities like these don’t come around often so we are grateful for the trust and we are sure that this is the start of a great relationship.

"Into the Void" was composed between 2013 and 2018. In 2018 we entered the studio to start recording it. The recording process took around one year to be concluded. As for its concept, Into The Void is a dark album as it deals with anxiety, depression, existentialism, and a lot of everyday struggles and events that we have collectively gotten through the years. For this reason, Into the Void is a very personal album and one that we are very proud to have it as our debut.

The music was written by all the band members and because of that it mixes a lot of genres and influences, you’ll hear a lot of Iron Maiden vocal lines and guitar melodies, while the guitar and bass riffs may come from bands such as Deftones, Korn but also metalcore acts such as As I lay Dying, which is also a big influence on the drumming in pair with for example Lamb of God. All of this while trying to blink an eye at some prog metal landscapes in terms of song structure and dynamics."

Nameless Theory is a metal band from Pinhal Novo, Portugal formed by Pedro Piedade on lead vocals, Márcio Júnior on bass guitar, André Marques on lead guitar, and Igor Pedroso on drums.  Their objective is to bring together both the band and the audience in an engaging environment full of energy and emotion.

The band was formed in January 2013 and on April 25th, 2013 the band released their first EP "2013" and spent the following months promoting this work. As the band performed and rehearsed, they matured and changed their musical direction and approach. Bearing this in mind, the band decided to record a second EP called "Ghosts". The EP was recorded in May / June 2015 at "Le Baron Rouge Studios" in Nirvana Studios by producer Tiago Borges (The Royal Blasphemy) and released on October 17th, 2015.

In September 2018 the band entered Ultrasound Studios in Moita to start recording their first album, which ended up being titled “Into the Void”. Produced by Igor Azougado (Shivers) this work presents itself as a solid summary of the band's years as musicians and people. The album was released independently on February 8, 2020, followed by 4 promotion concerts until an abrupt halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In April 2022 the band signed with the label Wormholedeath to the rerelease of “Into The Void”, an amazing opportunity and partnership that for sure will help Nameless Theory step up their game. With concerts played all over Portugal in great venues such as "Paradise Garage", "Stairway Club", "Popular Alvalade", "Festival Bardoada, and AJCOI" as well as being the opening act for the bands "Ash Is a Robot" and " O Bisonte", Nameless Theory wants to be one of the next great metal bands to come out of Portugal!

Vëlla was formed in Lisboa (Portugal) and are influenced by all kinds of music styles. The sound of the band resonates in resounding rhythms, neck breaking riffs, graceful drumming, fierce hooks, impressive staging, elegant and furious clean & growling vocals.

The crushing Lisbon quintet combine technique, power, and melody, with an unparalleled mastery of making remarkable songs, bringing ruthless energy to their live performances. With a harmonious melting pot of several metal subgenres, blending deep powerful hooks and mesmerizing melodic grandeur, VËLLA’s music is often described as a must-listen, impressive and well-executed fusion of power and melody with memorable hooks.

Iván Magdalena (Label's CEO) comments on the signing:-

Portuguese brutal death metal trio Analepsy unveil details of new album 'Quiescence'

27/1/2022

Picture

A new song, music video and pre-orders are expected to be released on January 31st.

“Quiescence” continues the space motif from Analepsy’s previous releases, but from a different perspective. There are no living creatures, only the deserted cosmos awaiting its own demise. The album features guest appearances from Ricky Myers (Suffocation, Disgorge), Angel Ochoa  (Cephalotripsy, Disgorge, Abominable Putridity, Condemned) and Wilson Ng (Facelift Deformation,  Vermicular Incubation).

The band commented:

"We are delighted to present our most recent work: Quiescence! This has been a tight process, and despite all the changes the band went through, everything worked like clockwork. The essence of our music lives on!"

The recordings of “Quiescence” took three months (August - October, 2021), entailing the skills of guitarist / co-founder Marco Martins, guitarist/vocalist Calin Paraschiv (ex-Pestilence), bassist  João Jacinto and ex-drummer Tiago Correia. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by  Miguel Tereso at Demigod Recordings studio in Caxarias, Portugal.

The cover artwork was created by Pedro Sena - Lordigan.

Analepsy's sound can be described as a crossover between old-school brutal death metal and modern melodic elements. The correct pronunciation of the name of the band is "uh-nuh-leh-psy" [ʌnʌlepsy], and it was chosen due to its (now obsolete) meaning: recovery of strength after an illness. The band was formed in late 2013 and started gaining popularity with the single "Genetic Mutations". Their short discography embraces the 2015 EP "Dehumanization by Supremacy", followed by 2017 debut album "Atrocities from Beyond" and split release "The Kraanialepsy Split", to whom the band was invited by Kraanium. The release of "Atrocities from Beyond" was met with growing interest and turned the eyes of many towards the band. In the months that followed its release, ANALEPSY won the Portuguese W:O:A Metal Battle, to later perform at Wacken Open Air 2017. Their first show outside Europe led them to Japan in 2019.

Picture

Portuguese melodic death metal titans Apotheus just released a new video for the track “Staring the Abyss”, taken from their latest full-length "The Far Star".

You can watch the video at this location: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGqUI_pEcVE

“Staring the Abyss” is about despair and loss, but it also paves the way for a fallback plan in which everyone puts their hopes. After such a dark terrible loss for everyone, the band has decided to bring you a glimpse of light. This video captures very well the joy and excitement of what happened at our first post-pandemic live show. It’s hard to put into words the feeling of rediscovering what truly drives them.

In essence, this is what “The Far Star” is about: a journey, with terrible losses and majestic wins, but above all, it’s about never giving up.
