Picture

So we now know who the winners of the GMA Awards 2021 were, but to wrap up the event in it's entirety and bid farewell to 2021 and usher in 2022, we must turn to the last bunch of awards - 'Metal Release By Country / Area'.

Usually these would include the flag of the band's nation, but given the events in Afghanistan this year among other political turmoil, I felt it would be prudent to forgo any flags and just list the winners.... so without further ado here are the....

Latvian gothic melodic sextet Everlust announce new album “Diary Of Existence”

18/3/2021

Picture

Everlust, gothic rock / melodic metal band from Latvia, will release their sophomore full length album “Diary of Existence” on May 7th, 2021 via Wormholedeath on all digital platforms worldwide.

Band Comment:

"The album will consist of 11 compositions, which are like different diary entries. The album describes the feelings of a person writing a diary. The mood is mostly melancholic in songs like “Land of Dreams”, “I Never Was” and “Alone”, which are heartbreak ballads about loneliness and unrequited love, even a little mystical “Despair” filled with more aphotic feels. There is also energy driven philosophical song “Running” which is about being alone in a crowd and running from oneself, lustful song “Everlust” and bipolar “Destroyer”. The band also made their version of famous Sam Smith’s song “Writings on the Wall”. “Diary of Existence” will also feature a duet song “Entwined” with Ålandic band LAMORI's front man Matias Juselius, which is also a romantic ballad about sick relationships."

About their new album:

“Each of these songs is like the tales about our feelings, while going through some difficult situations in life and getting over them. We hope that these songs will be a helping hand to our listeners facing the same problems.”

Latvian heavy / thrash metallers Iron Wings release new single "Devil's Lullaby"

11/1/2021

Latvian Heavy / Thrash Metal band Iron Wings release their new single "Devil's Lullaby" (taken from the band's upcoming album), check it out below:

  • YouTube: https://youtu.be/5AH6cKHESSQ
  • Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/7sUXBSKxgvKDEfguTPqDW7
  • Bandcamp: https://ironwings.bandcamp.com/track/devils-lullaby

The band had this to say about the single and upcoming album:

"The main theme of the song is one of Shakespeare's most famous quotes "hell is empty and all the devils are here". The song and the upcoming album form parallels with the already released album “Dzejnieks” ("The Poet").

The main idea of the song is to make us to think about what we have become in less than a year, when even the closest people and friends in the saturated sea of views lose their humanity and are ready to tear each other apart in the name of only acceptable ideas.

This fear, ignorance, intolerance of diversity of opinion is also the poison that poisoned our world and ourselves. Are we, the society that incites hatred, not the ones who create this hell in which we live?"

Iron Wings are a heavy / thrash metal band from Riga, Latvia, who formed in 2016. Since then they have been sharing the stage with a lot of local bands and have shared the stage with a lot of foreign acts. In the music making process the band mixes together heavy and thrash metal, creating their own unique sound. At the end of 2017 they released the EP “Tumšie miglāji” (“Dark Nebulae”). In 2020 they released their new album “Dzejnieks” (“The Poet”).

Latvian Pagan Metal vets Skyforger release 'Nothing Is Forgotten' video; dedicates it to the centenary of Latvian independence

21/11/2018

Picture

Latvian heavy metal band Skyforger have released a brand new video for their track Nothing Is Forgotten from their latest 2015 album Old Prussia, dedicating it to the 100th anniversary since the independence of their Latvian homeland.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD04RxYsM54

Kristīne Neikena, who directed the video, says that main idea is there to remind that when it comes to Latvian history, “nothing is forgotten”, including the hardships and struggles of the Latvian people throughout the years.

The video tells the story through the eyes of a young woman played by Maija Arvena, a rising Latvian film star. Her character's journey is an emotional and symbolic account of the pivotal moments in the history of a Latvian nation, its birth, hopes, rise, fall and, ultimately, rebirth and strength while national landmarks, nature and events feature in the background.

Peter Kvetjovskis, Skyforger's vocalist, adds:

“As we celebrate the centenary of Latvia's independence today on 18th November, we want to dedicate this video as an epitaph of sorts to all those whose lives were broken by all the wars and conflicts that have befallen our land, and to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, so that future generations could live happily as a free and independent nation. The thing is, history tends to remember only the key figures, including the villains and monsters, while the lives of hundreds of thousands of “ordinary” folks slowly disappear and vanish from the nation's memory… Well, our song is about exactly these people and in their memory!”

The video is directed by Kristīne NEIKENA, cameras by Mārtiņš EGLĪTIS and Tomass BEĶERIS, art direction by Elza BUKUMA, edited by Mārtiņš LAZDĀNS.

“Method To Madness” is the third album by Latvian Groove Metallers Undusted; recorded last November

9/7/2018

Picture

“We are the band and we act as a team. We collaborate and negotiate to find a new sound. That particular album has fulfilled every band’s member demands. We encounter this for the first time”,
- frontman Igor states.

Preserving the original playing style with groovy drums and broken beats, melodic guitars are introduced into the tracks, filling the atmosphere with the cryptic sense.

Lyrics should not be overlooked as well. The whole album is telling a story of one’s overwrought angst, inner struggle against uncertainty in front of the hopelessness, about the consciousness mending superior powers, putrefaction and lordship.

“Method To Madness” will love not only the fans of metal music, but the sincere aesthetes of sound.

For fans of: Meshuggah, Gojira, Lamb of god, Slipknot, Thy art is murder, Carnifex, Omega Diatribe, Decapitated, Heaven Shall Burn, Caliban, Chimaira, Parkway Drive.

Undusted is a Groove Metal band from Latvia, formed in 2005. Despite the numerous guitar player’s line-up changes, the band has performed a tremendous amount of shows, took part in a different Open Air Festivals and Celebrities in Latvia and Estonia, sharing stages with the Metal Star Bands like: Amatory, Stigmata, The Korea, Insense, etc. and therefore gained a wide popularity in the underground music sphere.

First release named "4 Of A Kind" is an experimental way to create a metal music structure and sound. It is recorded on the fretless guitars and is a composite of the several tracks created in one pot-pourri.

Second release "Outdated Beliefs" consists of 5 tracks and sounds more likely to the customary metal music, comparing with the first release.

"Method To Madness" was mixed & mastered by a different sound engineer and it’s sounding is the band’s absolutely new step in the sound production.
