After one month of voting, nearly 6,000 votes cast and countless sharing across all social media platforms by us and nominees alike, the time has come to announce the winners of the GMA Awards 2019. But before that happens, there will be a change to how the nominees are cast. For 10 months of the year we will be running a series of rounds from which the 10 finalists will be recognised for the annual event. February nominees voted in March, etc and finishes with nominees in October being voted for in November - the finalists will then be voted for across the month of December and into early January 2021; finishing 8th January 2021. Lebanese Metallers Phenomy - after winning the Metal Battle in Beirut on April 27th - performed at Wacken Open Air 2018. The band has issued their recap of their first-ever Wacken experience: "It was nothing like we expected, We thought it was huge but no, it was fucking gigantic. we would have 30 min of walk between sections from our camping area to the main city or to other areas. The first experience arriving to Wacken was meeting the great Derrick Green from Sepultura, now how is that for an overture of the journey!? This guy is most probably the most down to earth guy we have ever met. He would be chilling and meeting people in the area modestly. It was a dream come true to meet a guy like him. This area also had promoters and media agents from all over the world, a huge exposure for any band really. The same night a Hot dog grill started in the Artist area, and guess who was the grill master, yes, non other that Mr. Thomas Jensen himself, co founder of Wacken open air just in front of our eyes. He was cool enough to give us an hour of his time to talk about everything literally. He completely understands the struggle bands go through to play in Wacken and he is doing the best he can to help making it easier for them. "The coolest and awesome guy we ever met and it was such a honour to meet him". Not to forget that he was cool enough to mention Phenomy in his press conference while announcing the headliners for W:O:A 2019. Our performance at Wacken Open Air is most probably the most important one so far.The crowd reaction was AMAZING!! the way they received us, after all the technical difficulties we faced, was awesome. we were humbled. Moshpits and headbang didn't stop during the 15 min we had left. 2 Lebanese flags were hang just before our eyes and that was a hell of a boost for us. We couldn't finish the last song but we had a awesome final applause from our friends and fans. We also had the pleasure to meet Promoters, bands and fans from all over the world. It was a really unforgettable journey that we shared with wonderful people, special thanks to Mrs Monika Bremer, Promoter of the Wacken Metal Battle in the middle east and Mr Jörgen Lindström, Ambassor of Sweden In Lebanon for being there and supporting us." Out of the hellish darkness emerges Lebanese extreme death metal band Kaoteon with a savage blackened attack in the form of their new full-length album, Damnatio Memoriae. The album is due for release on February 23, 2018, and pre-orders are available now via https://kaoteon.bandcamp.com. Kaoteon is an unusual east-west international extreme metal collaboration, originally hailing from the Middle East but now based in Amsterdam. For Damnatio Memoriae, full-time members Anthony Kaoteon (Death Drive) on guitar and vocalist Walid Wolflust (Ordum, ex-Gothmog) tapped the distinctive talents of bass wizard Linus Klausenitzer of Obscura and drum master Fredrik Widigs of Marduk as guests. After performing with them live for the first time in Beirut in April at the Beirut Metal Fest, Klausenitzer described Kaoteon as, "legends of the Lebanese metal scene". Take a listen to the band's blackened, blistering new single, the title track "Damnatio Memoriae", now via Metal Injection: http://www.metalinjection.net/av/song-premiere/kaoteon-marduk-obscura-streams-blackened-massive-new-song-damnatio-memoriae As a band, Kaoteon has faced censorship at the highest levels in their home country - they have been put in jail for devil worshipping, attacked by religious groups, and raided several times by police trying to use them as scapegoats to mask political and religious problems in the region. It's a terrifying but enthrallingly honest story of a metal band trying to exist, succeed and break out of the Middle East. In a group statement, Kaoteon says: "Lebanese metalheads are some of the friendliest and most amazing people to hang out with. It is sad to see great potential in this world gone to waste because someone somewhere decided to label people at birth and imprison them into their borders. The scene itself is thirsty for metal, so international bands should expect amazing interaction from the crowd. The Dutch scene - where we exist now - shows strong support for local talent, unlike the Lebanese scene. The Dutch scene love their bands above all, while we feel that the Lebanese metal scene favours the international bands." Damnatio Memoriae succeeds at portraying the band's justified "f*ck-the-world" outlook with nine poisonous tracks that brim with exhilarating magnetism and needle-sharp riffing. Beginning at track one with "Damnatio Memoriae" - which describes the ancient Latin punishment of eradicating a person or figure from all memory and mention - Kaoteon unleash an all-out ferocious aural assault, attacking the very foundations of their genre with absolute conviction. Referring to the inclusion of Linus Klausenitzer and Fredrik Widigs on this album, the band adds: "Linus and Fredrik are extraordinary musicians playing with state of the art bands each in their respective genres. Linus is a melodic bass maestro and Fredrik has an amazing delivery that does not lose groove while still being as aggressive as it can get. The best thing about them being a part of this project is that Linus has become a very close friend to us, and that's what really matters at the end of the day." Damnatio Memoriae was self-recorded by Kaoteon, with mixing and mastering credited to renowned Swedish producer Daniel Bergstrand, who is recognized for his celebrated work with bands such as Behemoth, Dark Funeral, Dimmu Borgir and many more of today's top metal artists. Damnatio Memoriae is explosive metal at its finest, and is sure to be one of the most buzzed about extreme metal releases of the year. www.facebook.com/kaoteon www.instagram.com/kaoteon https://kaoteon.bandcamp.com |
