Periphery, the D.C.-based Djent / prog innovators return this summer with a new album, 'Periphery III: Select Difficulty' which is set for a release via Century Media Records outside of North America, Australia / NZ and Japan on July 22nd, 2016.

“’Periphery III: Select Difficulty’ is finally complete and we’re extremely excited to show everyone,” said guitar player Jake Bowen. “For the past couple of years we’ve been refining our collaborative process as a band and we feel that it’s only getting better with the completion of this album. We spent two months writing songs that are not only representative of the Periphery sound but also reflect where all of us are as musicians, working together has helped us tread new ground musically and creatively. In support of ‘Periphery III’ you’ll see us hit the road in the States this summer with SikTh, Chon, and Toothgrinder on the Sonic Unrest tour, it’s going to be a blast! See you on the road!”

Ahead of the release of 'Periphery III: Select Difficulty', the band will head over to the UK to play the prestigious Download Festival on June 12.

Periphery’s own Adam “Nolly” Getgood oversaw production for the album as he did with the “Juggernaut” releases. Nolly will no longer be a touring member of Periphery, as he will be expanding his production work in his native UK. He remains an integral part, and a member, of Periphery. At this time no decision has been made about a touring bassist.

“Touring with Periphery has shown me some of the most incredible experiences I could ever have imagined, to meet amazing people all over the world and to create friendships for life; it has truly been an honour to perform in front of every audience who has watched us play over the years. However the touring life isn’t something that everyone can continue doing indefinitely, and for me, the time has come where I want to settle into a more normal existence, be able to make plans further into the future than the touring life enables, and to be able to focus more on the studio side of my music career,” explained Nolly. “I will, however, be remaining as a band member and contributing in any way that I can while the band is off the road; I love all of my fellow bandmates like brothers and I’m so grateful for the incredible support they’ve shown as I make this huge life change. I know they are going to be taking the music and performances to the next level when they hit the road later this year.”

The band will host a four-day, immersive summer camp dubbed the “Periphery Summer Jam” on July 25 to 29 at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, New York. Registration and further information can be found here:  www.peripherysummerjam.com.

Periphery live:

Combining a heavenly destruction of heavy riffs with beautiful melodies, Vancouver, BC's European influenced symphonic metal band Celestial Ruin create catchy, singable and epic tunes that draw on lyrical themes of fantasy and horror, plus sometimes implying deeper meanings or just celebrating the subject matter at hand. Their new EP 'Pandora' is set for release on May 20th to follow their 2012 debut album 'The Awakening' and before it drops they have teamed up with New Noise Magazine for the premiere of their second single 'Firestorm' which can be heard at the following link: http://newnoisemagazine.com/song-premiere-celestial-ruin-firestorm/

Vocalist Larissa Dawn comments on the track:

“‘Firestorm is one of my favourite songs on the album! I still get goosebumps when I hear the ending. The song is about being trapped in a destructive relationship/life. Feeling caged and being continuously wounded yet still finding a reason to stay. Think of how it would feel to be in a cage. No sunlight, no fresh air and knowing that no matter what you did you could never be free again. That feeling of captivity and acceptance, that everyday you would die over and over again. But if you listen close to the lyrics, you will realize that the only thing holding this person in that cage... is themselves.”

Digital and CD pre-order of the EP is available on iTunes and CD at www.celestialruin.com.

Actor Emilio Rivera ("Marcus Alvarez" on the "Sons of Anarchy" television series) will lead the 2nd Annual Ride For Ronnie Motorcycle Ride and Concert, benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund on Sunday, May 22, 2016. Following Rivera at the front of this year's Ride will be a VIP pack comprising of "Sons of Anarchy" actors Michael Beach ("Taddarius Orwell 'T.O.' Cross") and Sean McNabb ("Tacoma-VP") as well as Wendy Dio, Ronnie James Dio's widow and co-founder-president of the Dio Cancer Fund, rocker Lita Ford, who will also perform at the concert following the RIDE, Frank Kramer of KLOS Radio's popular "Heidi and Frank" morning show, and "Boston" Tom Foresteire. Forestiere will ride the one-of-a-kind "Holy Diver" Harley-Davidson motorcycle he won at the recent Street Party that launched this year's Ride. It is custom-painted with the illustration from the cover of Ronnie James Dio's iconic "Holy Diver" album.

Riders will assemble for a continental breakfast at Harley-Davidson of Glendale with kickstands up at 11AM. The Ride will take them through the streets of Los Angeles County to Los Encinos Park in Encino, where they will be treated to an afternoon of live music, raffle and live auction, various food and merchandise vendors and more. The Inaugural Ride, held in May 2015 as part of a weekend of events commemorating the 5th anniversary of the passing of Ronnie James Dio, contributed to raising $155,000 for the cancer charity from that weekend's events.

Festivities at Los Encinos Park will commence at 11:30AM with live entertainment provided by rockers Great White, Lita Ford, Dio Disciples, Gabbie Rae, Budderside, Sonia Harley and Doctors Of The Earth. The concert will be hosted by DJ Will.

The "Sons of Anarchy" cast members will also participate in a Meet & Greet at Los Encinos Park during the afternoon events.  Rivera, Beach and McNabb will be joined for the Meet & Greet by actress Natalie Skyy, who played Kiki on the popular series. His upcoming projects include the films "Badsville," "Better Criminal," "Fade Away" and "Smartass."  Michael Beach is also a familiar face on television, with appearances on "The Blacklist," "Secrets and Lies," "Blue Bloods" and a pivotal role on the critically-acclaimed series "ER."

In addition to his string of acting credits, which include theatrical productions and appearances on television's "NCIS Los Angeles" and "Community" as well as "Sons of Anarchy," Sean McNabb is well-known as a rock musician who has played bass guitar with Quiet Riot, Dokken and Lynch Mob, among others.  Natalie Skyy
made her pro Mixed Martial Arts debut as a ring girl with Strikeforce in 2008, which led her to serve at her 2nd MMA fight night collaboration with the Texas-based MMA show, "Shark Fights."  Her new film "3 Days" is slated for a 2016 release.

Power Metal warriors Sabaton set to release "The Last Stand" on August 19th

29/4/2016

Picture

Swedish Heavy Metal heroes Sabaton are currently working on their new studio album, entitled "The Last Stand", which is going to be released worldwide on August 19th through Nuclear Blast.

"We once work again with Peter Tägtgren in his newly upgraded and top class Abyss studio in Sweden to record, produce and mix the album. The mastering will be done by Jonas Kjellgren who also works in the same building in nice Pärlby on the countryside of Sweden. Both 'Carolus Rex' and 'Heroes' were done in the same way and we feel very comfortable to return to the same place and people again. Fans will recognize the sound of the album as Sabaton, but we really feel we took it a step forward this time", says Pär Sundström.

The artwork on the album is made by Peter Sallaí who has been with Sabaton since 'Carolus Rex'. Pär Sundström explains:

"We had the idea to make an image reflecting soldiers of different times representing the different historical battles we sing about on the new album. This only reveals a small part of the album topics though".

"The concept of a last stand has always fascinated me, and both me and Pär were ”all in excited” about the subject so it was an easy choice to make", says vocalist Joakim Broden about the album title 'The Last Stand'.

"
We always have several ideas for albums to work with. Since there are countless different views and angles of war, we will unfortunately never run out of ideas. We kinda felt that the last stand was something perfect for Sabaton. Something we really wanted to do. Heroes was a perfect theme and The Last Stand is right down our alley too. It was exciting to do the research", adds Sundstöm.

Few more weeks until the final work is done. But everyone in the Sabaton camp is more than satisfied. Joakim Broden sums it up: "Did any other artist ever say ”Our new album is the best we ever made”? That’s not for us to decide, that’s up to our fans..."

Japan's The Gazette set to drop their latest maxi-single 'Undying'

29/4/2016

Picture

the GazettE, one of Japan’s leading heavy rock bands, will release three track maxi-single 'Undying' via JPU Records on 27 April 2016, the same day as they perform in Canada as part of their world tour.

'Undying' is the 6th movement of 'Project:Dark Age', an artistic venture involving 18 creative professionals spanning Japan’s fashion, design, photography, sound, film and stage industries, with the GazettE’s five members at its centre. 'Dogma', the GazettE’s latest album, was the first movement, and the current world tour makes up movements 7, 8 and 9.

''Undying' is mastered exclusively for iTunes and features crystal clear 24-bit audio. A video preview of all three tracks from the single have been made available from the band’s official YouTube Channel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XCBA9GzXtA

Since 2002, the GazettE has risen to become one of Japan’s most successful rock bands. They’ve refined and redefined the boundaries of rock music, achieving continual chart success despite their often heavy, ominous sound.

In the last decade, the GazettE have earned top-ten chart success with all 20 of their major label albums and singles. Their music has taken them all over Japan on massive, sold-out tours and seen them perform at some of the country’s most prestigious venues. Highlights include sold-out “one man lives” (a Japanese term for shows with a single band on the line-up) at the mighty Nippon Budokan, Saitama Super Arena and Japan’s 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome – not to mention packed-out tours across the globe. The band even managed to bring Shinjuku Station – the world’s busiest transport hub – to a halt when a guerrilla gig got out of hand and tens of thousands of fans arrived within minutes of the news breaking on social media.

the GazettE emerged from the depths of “Visual Kei”, a Japanese cultural music and fashion phenomenon. Originally part of its underground scene, performing at tiny venues and self-releasing CDs, they now fill stadiums and have become known as one of the most significant names of the genre, effortlessly rewriting its rulebook with every release.

Singapore's Rudra announces album name and more details of eighth album

Rudra, Singapore's unholy kings and the true pioneers of Vedic Metal have announced details of their upcoming eighth album. The extreme metal veterans are on the verge of celebrating their 25th anniversary as a band. Their upcoming eighth album is said to be the band's most aggressive release so far.

Rudra's eighth album is now officially titled "Enemy Of Duality". Front man Kathir Aryaputra says:-

"The whole album is based on a Sanskrit text called 'Mandukya Karikas'. The text takes a radical stand on non-duality. So we coupled that philosophy with Extreme Metal. Hence, we thought Enemy Of Duality could be the best suitable title for this album".

Furthermore, guitarist Vinod adds:-

"This is probably the first album where we have introduced numerous instruments such as Digeridoo, Sitar, Tabla etc., for various tracks in this album. A lot of time and thought has been put in each track, hence it took a lot of effort to get the right tone for all the instruments during the recording stage".

"Black Metal: Into The Abyss" from Black Metal writer and photographer, Dayal Patterson, will be released on 31st May and is now available for pre-order. The new book includes 300 pages and 21 chapters of brand new and exclusive material, with long, detailed and definitive interviews; featuring four Pagan Records acts: Sacrilegium, Furia, MasseMord and Mord’A’Stigmata.

The newest full-length book in the 'Black Metal Cult' series follows on the good work in "Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult" and "Black Metal: The Cult Never Dies Vol. One." Designed to be read as either a separate work or as part of the series and presented with a somewhat more old-school aesthetic to the previous two tomes.

Available as a stand-alone edition or as a box set, featuring a second (colour / gloss) with over 100 pages of photos, a patch, art prints, a deluxe box and numbered illustrated certificate.

The author, Dayal Patterson, comments about exploring Polish Black Metal:

“Along with the bands coming out of territories such as Greece, Norway and Sweden, Polish Black Metal was something that we kept an eye on as fans since the 90's. It has been a pleasure to be able to explore the scene in more detail in this book series and conduct in-depth interviews with such diverse groups as Xantotol, Arkona, Behemoth, Mastiphal, Evilfeast, Mgla/Kriegsmachine, Graveland - and in the new book Black Metal: Into The Abyss - Furia, Massemord, Black Altar, Besatt,
Mord ‘A’ Stigmata, Sacrilegium and Blaze Of Perdition.”

Static of Mord’A’Stigmata adds:

“I did hundreds of interviews since I started this journey called Mord'A'Stigmata in 2004. If someone asks me which of those conversations touched the real soul of the band, I definitely should point to my talk with Dayal. The work he did preparing his last book, could not be overrated. It was a challenge to answer all these profound questions, but results are amazing."

S. of Blaze of Perdition comments:

"The simple, yet not that easy, trick of journalism is to ask the right people the right questions and Dayal does just that.”

Bands included in the latest book: Furia, Massemord, 1349, Forgotten Woods, Tsjuder, Nocturnal Depression, Vemod, One Tail, One Head, Mystifier, Black Altar, Besatt, Mord ‘A’ Stigmata, Trist, Helheim, Hypothermia, Loits, Deinonychus, Psychonaut 4, Koldbrann, Urgehal, Sacrilegium & Blaze Of Perdition.
