Global Metal Apocalypse (GMA) Awards 2021 - Metal Release Of The Year (by country / territory)8/1/2022 So we now know who the winners of the GMA Awards 2021 were, but to wrap up the event in it's entirety and bid farewell to 2021 and usher in 2022, we must turn to the last bunch of awards - 'Metal Release By Country / Area'. Usually these would include the flag of the band's nation, but given the events in Afghanistan this year among other political turmoil, I felt it would be prudent to forgo any flags and just list the winners.... so without further ado here are the.... |

Cradle Of Filth - Necromantic Fantasies
Ukrainian blackened death/doom metal visionaries 1914 continue to reflect the gruesome tales of World War I, its soldiers’ fate, their death, fear and feats to be never forgotten on their sinister third epos, Where Fear and Weapons Meet, out this Friday, October 22, 2021 via Napalm Records. After smashing their massive first treat “...And a Cross Now Marks His Place”, feat. none other than Paradise Lost icon Nick Holmes, followed by scorching “Pillars of Fire (The Battle of Messines)”, the Ukrainian WWI experts now reveal the secret of their third single “FN .380 ACP#19074”, alongside a thrilling lyric video.
The track breaks in with a majestic yet intimidating orchestra, heavy guitar lines, thunderous black metal drumming like a blaze of gunfire and raw vocal power. It reflects the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife 1914 in Sarajevo, an event that caused the outbreak of World War I.
Ditmar Kumarberg comments:
“This track marks the beginning of the entire conflict - the assassination of Franz Ferdinand - the event that triggered the conflict that had been brewing for the last 10 years. The royal houses of Europe wanted this war, it was inevitable - technical progress, territorial claims and dissatisfaction of people led to this. And so, the Yugoslav nationalist Gavrilo Princip fired the shots that launched the process. Two shots from a .380 ACP FN Model 1910 pistol numbered 19074, which changed the world forever, collapsed large empires and killed tens of millions of people.”
1. War In 2. FN .380 ACP#19074 3. Vimy Ridge (In Memory of Filip Konowal) 4. Pillars of Fire (The Battle of Messines) 5. Don't Tread on Me (Harlem Hellfighters) 6. Coward (feat. Sasha Boole) 7. ...And a Cross Now Marks His Place (ft. Nick Holmes) 8. Corps d'autos-canons-mitrailleuses (A.C.M) 9. Mit Gott für König und Vaterland 10. The Green Fields of France 11. War Out |
1914 break into their third offering with the intro “War In”, summed up by final “War Out”, and immediately build a common thread to the previous records. “War In” is the original of the most famous Serbian song of the Great War period, “Tamo Daleko”. Like World War I, the album begins in Serbia and continues on the first track from the prospective of Gavrilo Princip, who assassinated Franz Ferdinand and his wife on June 28, 1914.
What happens next is an intense, in-depth analysis of historical events. For example – Battle of Vimy Ridge, shameful pages of the British Empire history in the track “Coward” featuring Sasha Boole (Me And That Man), The Battle of Messines on “Pillars of Fire” or the infantry regiment, the Harlem Hellfighters, on “Don’t Tread On Me”. Authentic forces like ambient sonic war samplings transport these stories even further into the present and make Where Fear and Weapons Meet another heavily intense and deep-reaching output that will grant 1914 even higher appreciation than the five-piece is already credited with.
1914 on the album:
“Where Fear and Weapons Meet continues the theme we started on The Blind Leading the Blind - with one major difference: these are the stories about hope where most of our characters are staying alive, becoming heroes, and returning back to their homes. Yes, it is still about fear, death, and senselessness of war, but the hope is the only thing the soldier holds on to. And a good portion of luck as well. Even the album cover reflects this - the man lays wounded, bleeding in the trench, reaching his hand to Death begging for relieve, and Death declines to take him. He deserves to live.
The album starts with the assassination in Sarajevo, leads you through the bloodiest moments of the Great War, and ends up with the monologue on a grave of a young man killed in his first battle. This time we did have even more hard digging into the historical background while making the tracks. We are not singing the songs, we are telling the stories!”

It's finally here, and transgresses borders of all imagination! Ukrainian modern metal giants Jinjer have only just released one of the most anticipated metal albums of the year on August 27, entitled Wallflowers, and are already breaking the charts worldwide with the game-changing fourth offering. Wallflowers, the successor of their critically acclaimed third album Macro, is currently ranked at #7 on the German charts – marking their highest position in Germany so far – in addition to entering at #5 on the official UK Rock & Metal Album Charts. Plus, the band entered both the US Billboard Top New Artist Albums chart and Canada’s Hard Music Albums chart at #1, in addition to landing at #2 on the US Current Hard Music Albums chart and scoring several other top positions. Wallflowers has also gone on to gather numerous top spots in several other international territories. See all chart entries of this modern metal manifestation below.
Eugene on the new album:
“Growing creatively has always been a major goal for us. The day JINJER stops reaching for new musical horizons will be our last day as a band. We could have churned out what our peers expected us to do, or produce ‘Pisces’ clones without end, but we’ve never done that and we never will. Instead, we wrote an album whose level of emotions range from the fiercest aggression we’ve ever had, to the most intricate melodies and melancholic vibes you could ever get from our music. We decided to rip apart all possible stylistic boundaries without regard to financial success or competing with our previous albums. Wallflowers is a different kind of album musically and visually. It’s about our identity as a band, as individuals and a clear statement that we are different from most artists… and that it is OK to do your own thing.”

“Deimos Falling”, the new album by the Ukrainian death metal band Orbstruct, will be released on September 22nd on CD and in digital format via Envenomed Music in Europe and Paragon Records in USA.
Ideologically, the future full-length is a continuation of the previous album “Phobos Rising” and tells about the new stage of personality development as seen by the band members.
"In “Deimos Falling” we will go from fight of a person against external factors and poisonous influence to fight against inner doubts and horrors caused by inflamed mind and fears imposed by social rules and doctrinal beliefs. Melodies are more atmospheric and tone is darker" – according to the musicians themselves.
They will also present their new album at gigs in the largest Ukrainian cities within the co-headlining tour with Swedish death metal legends Vomitory. Be ready to submerge into embracing dread and horror together with Orbstruct.
Orbstruct is a band from Kharkiv, Ukraine playing death metal in the best traditions of the genre; successfully combining powerful guitar riffs and high-speed blast beats with subjects of atheism, agnosticism, self-knowledge and self-development.
The band was formed in 2016 by the musicians spotted at different times as live and in-studio members of mainly black metal formations, part of which has become iconic in Ukraine and well-known abroad. The band’s first album known as “Phobos Rising” was released in spring 2020 on CD by two labels: Envenomed Music in Europe and Paragon Records in USA.
Line-up:
- Goreon - guitars, bass, vocals, lyrics
- Fok Lok - drums
- Redied - guitars
- Samurai - bass
Ukrainian ethnic groove / death metal band Arhat have released official music video for Freedom! The song was taken from the band's powerful debut full-length album Dead Life, released last year.
- Watch Freedom here: https://youtu.be/drRA8_bjVic
- Order Dead Life here: https://arhat.hearnow.com/
The band comments on Freedom:
"We are the band Arhat and we present a music video for the song 'Freedom' from our debut album "Dead Life", which was released in December 2020. We chose it not by chance, we consider this song iconic. 'Freedom' is the most valuable thing. This is what we have at the genetic level. Without freedom, any thing is worthless. But at the same time, freedom is everything. Freedom to choose, to be who you are, to live by your own rules. Many thanks to everyone who took part in the creation process! Special thanks to Sergei Subbotin for professionalism, Ruslan Seferov for sincere emotions and positivity, Dmitry Kim for drive drums!"

Ukrainian power metallers Sunrise present the second single from their upcoming album "Equilibrium"
20/4/2021
Prominent Ukrainian power metal act Sunrise present the second single “Equilibrium” from the upcoming 4th full-length album, which will be released on May, 18th.
Check it out below:-
The song sets the main sound conception of the upcoming album: powerful, assertive, aggressive, and melodic at the same time; it opens the new music approach of SUNRISE and shows a catchy combination of modern metal, power metal, electronic elements, and progressive structures built on drum'n'bass foundation.
Here you can notice the influence of such bands like Amaranthe and System Of A Down. Moreover, with “Equilibrium” Sunrise continues to provide the conception of two vocals - male and female, unusual for the band's previous works, but started with “The Bridge Across Infinity” - the first single from the new album - a year ago.
The band says that the lyrics of the song disclose the main idea of the album’s name: it is about the balance of different elements of life: good and evil, light and darkness, joy and pain, black and white, sweet and bitter; the main conception of the album introduces “Equilibria” as some kind of knowledge given from some higher space mind.
Along with the release of the new album, a music video for the “Equilibrium” will be released, a kind of announcement of which is represented by the cover of the new single.
The 4th full-length album of the Ukrainian power metal band will be released on May 18th under the title ‘Equilibria’ and will include 13 songs. On their new release Sunrise, mostly known for the sound highly valued by the fans of Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius, promises far more than its classical musical approach, mixing on it classic power metal, symphonic, epic, modern, and progressive metal with some experimental touches, such as traditional Ukrainian instrument bandura. The first single from the album, “The Bridge Across Infinity”, was released in 2020. It is based on Richard Bach’s novel and is one of the songs, which is experimental for the band and represents the progressive part of the album.
To release a new album Sunrise has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the band’s website, where the fans can support the release by pre-ordering it or buying merch.

Prominent Ukrainian power metal act Sunrise has recently revealed details of the 4th full-length album, coming on May 18th under the name of 'Equilibria'.
This time band, mostly known for the sound highly valued by the fans of Sonata Arctica and Stratovarius, promises far more than its classical musical approach. Thus, 13 songs of 'Equilibria' will be a mix of classic power metal, symphonic, epic, modern and progressive metal with some experimental touches, such as traditional Ukrainian instrument bandura.
After three full-length releases, valued among the genre’s fans (‘Liberty’ 2007, ‘Trust Your Soul' 2009, ‘Absolute Clarity’ 2016) 'Equilibria' shows the new level in approach to make arrangements and the sound.
The first single from the album, “The Bridge Across Infinity”, was released in 2020. It is based on Richard Bach’s novel and is one of the songs, which is experimental for the band and represents the progressive part of the album. At the same time, Sunrise promises that it was “just a first spark from the flame of the future release”, and for the ‘Equilibria’ they have prepared a lot of surprises and interesting music points.
One of the changes in comparison with the previous Sunrise albums is that the ‘Equilibria’ will have more place for female vocals: the voice of the keyboardist and backing vocalist Daria Naumenko this time will receive more space and will come to the fore in a number of songs as lead vocals next to the as always mighty vocals of Konstantin ‘Laars’ Naumenko. The work of four lead guitarists on ‘Equilibria’, each of whom brought their own ideas and even songs into it, makes the album even more diverse.
‘Equilibria’ is a kind of international work: Slovak vocalist Mayo Petranin, a member of Symphonity and Castaway bands, became a guest on one of the songs, and Polish friends of Sunrise joined the band to write the lyrics for the new album.
To release a new album Sunrise has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the band’s website, where the fans can support the release by pre-ordering it or buying merch. Previously the band has already had two successful crowdfunding stories - with the release of the ‘Absolute Clarity’ album in 2016 and the re-release of the ‘Trust Your Soul’ album in 2019.

Ukraine's modern metal juggernaut Jinjer have proven that they will never lessen their relentless pace and continue to work overtime, earning them the reputation as one of metal’s hardest working bands out there today. With many of their videos cracking the million mark and each of their albums released so far are highly praised by critics, scene insiders and fans alike, the band never tires of distributing their mercilessly progressive, heavy metal music to anyone that will listen.
Jinjer have finally entered the studio to start working on their highly anticipated 4th album on Napalm Records. Given the working title #JINJER4 by their fans, the band has been intensively writing new material over the past few months and it promises to be their most visionary and impactful release to date.
Bassist Eugene Abdukhanov commented:
“Those of you who keep an eye on us must have already heard that Jinjer have been working on new material pretty much since the beginning of the pandemic. It is one of those situations where even the most negative and terrible predicament can sometimes have a positive outcome. Deprived of live touring, we managed to focus all our creativity and frustration and turn it into new songs which are, in my opinion- the best music we have ever written. It's complex but yet catchy as hell, groovy but with such a palette of notes, sounds and most importantly: feelings... this new album might take the whole genre of extreme music to a whole new level and raise the bar of musicality even higher for this band and the metal scene in general.”
The recording sessions are once again taking place at the Kaska Records Studios in Kiev, Ukraine together with highly talented and good friend producer Max Morton.
JINJER is:
- Tatiana Shmayluk - Vocals
- Roman Ibramkhalilov - Guitars
- Eugene Abdukhanov - Bass

Ukrainian Melodic Death Metal band Wolfanger launches lyric video for new single, "Hunter & Prey".
Watch video now here - https://youtu.be/S_31t81nLSo
The band shares their thoughts:
"We came up with a final vision of the song concept a long time ago. The song is about the concept of hunt. There’s a hunter and there’s a prey but no one knows who will prevail until the final moment, the chances of both are equal and prey can turn the tide and become a hunter, or nobody can survive in this stand. The song’s message is about how much a tiny random chance can do with every situation we face during our whole lives but none of us notices that.
The inspiration came unexpectedly, as it usually happens (we’re sure the people with creative ways of thinking can understand us). After releasing a Wolfheart cover Mr Tuomas Saukkonen (the Wolfheart’s mastermind) has invited our vocalist Petro Solovey to record a guest vocal for their upcoming track Skull Soldiers. That was a chance to let every metalhead in the world know about us and inspire us to create a lot of cool songs."
You can order "Hunter & Prey" digitally here - https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/wolfanger/hunterprey
Wolfanger is a Ukrainian melodic death metal band combining heavy melodic riffs with keyboards. The band is influenced both by Amon Amarth, In Flames, Arch Enemy and many other music genres.
Formed in 2016 the band started to write the songs for an upcoming album. The band’s discography consists of EP “Afterlife” (released in spring 2017), several singles and LP Ancients Call (released in October 2019).
In Summer 2020 Wolfanger recorded a cover of the song “Ashes” from the latest Wolfheart album and took part in a cover contest. The Ashes cover took third place, so Wolfheart invited Wolfanger’s vocalist Petro Solovey to be a guest vocal in their new single “Skull Soldiers”. Currently the band is in progress of writing new songs for an upcoming album and have already released several singles.
