Expect alternative and progressive metal with 90's overtones! Dutch symphonic metal giants Epica recently announced the release of their new album "Omega", out on February 26th 2021 via Nuclear Blast. "Omega" is the band’s first studio album in five years. Last month, EPICA also revealed the first single and video clip from the album, titled 'Abyss Of Time', which was viewed on YouTube over a million times within its first week. Today, the band reveal a video for an acoustic version of that single. Watch the clip here: https://youtu.be/tpy-KdtLsZY Keyboarder Coen Janssen comments: "For the Omega release we rewrote 4 songs into acoustic versions. This is our way of relaxing after a period of working hard and intense on heavy music. Being able to wind down and see if the songs still ‘work’ without all the bombast feels like coming home. It also enables us to explore other musical styles than metal and challenges us to be creative in a different way than we are used to. Enjoy our first single “Abyss of Time” as if it was played in an Irish Pub while enjoying a nice pint with all your friends!!" The band combines intense musical atmospheres accompanied with heavy riffs and strong melodies and relies on stellar songwriting. They say they have been heavily influenced by Haken, Toto, Tool, Dream Theater and Leprous. The band released a new music video for Illusions which is an all-acoustic track. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/w41Es-2dJ0g Vocalist Timo Mustonen comment: "I love this song. It’s like a dream; the protagonist is taken away from his depressing mindset and surroundings for a while. The video we made underlines this. He’s sort of out of himself, and sees the world in a different light. It’s the first all-acoustic song we’ve ever made. Because of the concept of the song, and it being a rarity amongst all our songs, we wanted to keep it simplistic. I also like the in-the-middle-of-the-night theme we chose for the video. The lyrics on this one came to be in an unorthodox manner. Ari hummed in an imaginary language on the demo he made of the song. I then made a transliteration of what I heard into words and sentences in English. This version actually included some phrases you hear in the finished song. We found out it’s a dreamy kind of song immediately, and wanted to keep it that way. Me, Ari and Esa then tweaked the lyrics into a story that fits the album as well." 'Time Is Not On Your Side' album is released on November 22nd by Inverse Records. The new song is inspired by a fairy tale from a small town in the North of Italy. The band comments:- "We love magic tales and love to tell them when they are real. Water fairies can be seen when the Sun goes down, and you always have to respect them. If someday you'll forget the rule your fairy will vanish into a never-ending curse.'Three Times Bad and Three Times Good' are the laws of the enchanted wood, and we like to say that are also the rules of life. If you do something bad in your life, this will happen three times on you, the same if you do something good." The single can be watched on YouTube at the following link https://youtu.be/tzzR6tQf2yY and streamed on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/2wJBAS4 Theirs is an acoustic heaviness that is truly original and special. It’s as though, like the myths and legends that inspire them, Shadygrove have always been with us, just waiting for us to look with our hearts rather than our eyes.
