Hardcore / thrash / crossover band Cage Fight have released new single "Eating Me Alive" ft. the late, great Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder. Opening up about struggles with mental health, the "Eating Me Alive" lyric video has been released on World Mental Health Day, the international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.
One of — if not the final — recording by Strnad, the video was originally planned for May 13, which was Cage Fight's album release day. But the drop was postponed due to Strnad's tragic unexpected passing just days before. Trevor's support for singer Rachel Aspe's work played a key role in the formation of Cage Fight, which is why his contribution to their debut album is so special. And the subject matter — struggles with anxiety and mental health — makes this poignant song even more significant. Aspe comments:- "Over COVID I was looking for a new project and releasing covers for something to do, but also to hopefully connect with other musicians. When I released my cover of 'Statutory Ape,' Trevor picked up on it and shared from The Black Dahlia Murder's pages, and it got a lot of attention. Trevor messaged me to say he loved it, and hoped that I'd find a band off the back of the cover. Not long after James (Monteith, guitar) contacted me about Cage Fight and the rest is history. Had it not been for Trevor's support, Cage Fight may never have happened; it was a huge honour to have him guest on this song and it meant the world to us. He was one of the greatest supporters of the scene and new music, and is truly missed. RIP Trevor." On the song's content, bassist Jon Reid comments:- "'Eating Me Alive' is about the day-to-day struggles and challenges with mental health that are so prominent to so many people and how the sorrow and loneliness can have a tangible effect. This is something personal to us and we wanted to let people know that they are not alone. We can all have these feelings and that most importantly there is help out there, and we can all find something special. We have chosen to release this on World Mental Health day as a sign of solidarity." With the new single, Cage Fight are urging fans to show support by purchasing the Trevor Strnad memorial shirt. All proceeds will help Trevor's family cover expenses incurred by his death and benefit the Common Ground Resource & Crisis Center. Purchase and donate here. "Eating Me Alive" is taken from their debut album, Cage Fight, out now on the Candlelight label. Stream or purchase the album here. 2022 has been an explosive year for Cage Fight with the release of their highly acclaimed self-titled debut album, tours with Sepultura, Raging Speedhorn, and Cro-Mags, shows with Svalbard, Napalm Death and more, as well as appearing at many festivals including Bloodstock, Burn It Down, including headlining Derby Alt Fest. Now firm favourites on the live circuit, Cage Fight have announced their first ever UK headline tour in December 2022. Follow Rolling Live Studios www.RollingLiveStudios.com FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM | YOUTUBE British metal legends Iron Maiden and independent family brewers Robinsons announce the creation of Light Brigade, a unique golden English ale with a 4.1% ABV. It has been developed in support of Help For Heroes, the British charity that provides recovery and support for the Armed Forces community whose lives are affected by their service. 6p of each pint and 5p of each bottle sold will be donated to help the thousands of Servicemen and women who live with complex wounds and injuries – both physical and mental – and are looking to regain their purpose in life. Help For Heroes met with Robinsons in the summer of 2017 to explore the possibility of launching a beer. Robinsons and Iron Maiden, who jointly launched Trooper Beer almost five years ago and which has now sold over 20 million pints worldwide, were immediately enthusiastic about the idea. Indeed, the origin of Trooper’s name, which comes from the classic Iron Maiden song, ‘The Trooper’, based on the Battle of Balaclava of 1854 in the Crimean War, reflects the band’s well-known interest in history. As ever with the Trooper range of beers, Robinsons’ Head Brewer, Martyn Weeks, and Iron Maiden lead vocalist and ale aficionado, Bruce Dickinson, teamed up to create the new and original beer, with the final tasting and approval taking place at Help For Heroes’ Tedworth House Recovery Centre in Wiltshire, last Autumn. Bruce Dickinson said: “We are very proud to have been asked to get involved. I have been an instructor on several of British Airways’ flight simulator ‘Flying Heroes’ days for Help For Heroes Veterans, so I know the charity and the work that they do well. Light Brigade is our interpretation of a golden ale that maintains the elements of strength and character that are the essence of Trooper but at a more sessionable level. In fact, the two beers complement each other very well." Beth Miles, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at Help For Heroes: “We are thrilled that Bruce Dickinson has developed a new beer for us under the Trooper brand with Robinsons. We are sure that Light Brigade will have a very popular appeal and raise significant funds, enabling Help For Heroes to empower more Veterans to reach their potential and regain their purpose. This is the beginning of a partnership which we hope will see Trooper fans and Robinsons customers join The Force for Good campaign to support the thousands whose lives have been affected by their service.” Martyn Weeks commented: “Bruce and I were recently invited to visit Help For Heroes in Wiltshire, where we had a tour of the incredible recovery facilities there and met some of the Veterans. We were both hugely impressed with the work they are doing and launching a new beer in support of this Charity is, we believe, a great way to raise money and awareness for this very worthy cause. Robinsons will also be supporting the Charity through fundraising in our pub estate.” Light Brigade is designed as a session ale for beer and music fans everywhere. It will also be produced on a long-term basis, differentiating it from the other limited edition Trooper beers: 666, Red ‘N Black, and Hallowed. In keeping with the Trooper brand, Light Brigade's original bottle label features Iron Maiden’s iconic mascot Eddie on horseback in one of the uniforms of the Light Brigade. Light Brigade is available to pre-order online now at www.robinsonsbrewery.com for delivery from 1st February, and will be stocked in supermarkets nationwide and selected pubs from 19th February onwards. www.ironmaidenbeer.com www.facebook.com/ironmaidenbeer www.twitter.com/ironmaidenbeer (@ironmaidenbeer) www.robinsonsbrewery.com www.facebook.com/robinsonsbrewery www.twitter.com/robbiesbrewery (@robbiesbrewery) www.instagram.com/robinsonsbrewery. Omotai bassist / vocalist Melissa Lonchambon Ryan offers, "This storm was completely unfathomable, and I've been through a lot of hurricanes. Some of the first-person accounts I've read will haunt me for a long time. For a lot of people here, it will be difficult and take a long time to get back to some kind of normalcy or get close to replacing what was lost. But I was astounded by the response of regular people here that stepped up and rescued and helped others." Help Houston rebuild and pick up the Making Waves at THIS LOCATION. Omotai's upcoming A Ruined Oak album delivers an unrelenting dose of charged riff dynamics, pummelling low-end thunder, and infectious hooks, the album a meditation on the lost colony at Roanoke, centred on abandonment and responsibility, the lyrics haunted by loss and violence. This sprawling, diverse work shows a greater range than anything Omotai has done before, with songs drawing from thrash, doom, sludge, extreme metal, hardcore punk, and post-rock. A Ruined Oak was recorded by Chris Ryan at Dead City Sound and mastered by James Plotkin, and completed with art by Wolfbat and design by Sean Mehl. He spent his last days being cared for by the incredible people at Martlets hospice, a charity that rely on donations to continue to help those in need through their last days. Stephen Dickson, Mammothfest director commented: "Firstly we send our love and compassion to the band and their families at this difficult time. Having personally witnessed the passing of my best friend and Mammothfest business partner Rik Mosquero in 2013 after months in a hospice, we know just how tough a journey it is. It is fucking brutal so we are compelled to do something positive to put some back. The people in hospices are on another level, the care they give is so amazing so Architects and Martlets have got our complete support. We have therefore invited Martlets hospice down to have a stall for the weekend and we will be holding daily raffles so we can try to raise as much money as possible. This is where we ask everyone around the world to chip in and help the cause!" Recorded in memory of Nick Alexander, who also lived in Colchester, local producer Tom Donovan offered free studio sessions to bands in the community with all profits going to The Sweet Stuff Foundation to help those affected. The King Is Blind were the only extreme metal act to take up this offer, creating a cathartically haunting 6 minute epic. The cover was recorded in 2 stages – initially with Tom in December 2015, then Musikzimmer, Vienna, under the direction of Mark Royce (Entwined) who introduced live orchestral elements. OFFICIAL CHARITY DOWNLOAD / STREAM LINKS: iTunes Spotify “Colchester is a small town, with a close-knit music scene. Nick Alexander was someone we knew from the pubs and gigs in our home town for many years and we felt tremendous shock and sadness when we heard about his death, along with so many others in the Paris attacks in November 2015. Tom Donovan took the concept that EODM had presented, and took it to the extreme by offering free studio time to bands wishing to record their version of the song. Jumping head-first into the project to record as many covers of the EODM track as humanly possible, he asked if TKIB were interested in getting involved. I've known Tom for nearly 20 years so I know what he's like when he's fired up about an idea, so I said yes on behalf of the band before I'd even heard the EODM song. As soon as I got off the phone to Tom, I looked up the original EODM track online and the fear kicked in - the song was a jaunty little ditty without a hint of Metal, let alone TKIB’s 'Monolithic' Metal. It became pretty clear that, instead of doing a straightforward cover of the song, we would need to tear up the original and use only the blueprint of the music to design a track, guided by our feelings surrounding Nick and Paris. With the path now clear, we began to focus on delivering a much more sombre, emotional tone to the track. At certain points, we felt overwhelmed with emotion during the process, but with the help of Tom and our colleagues in Vienna we have been able to come up with a track expressing our compassion and grief which, we hope, will be a fitting tribute to Nick and all who were directly affected by the Paris attacks.” – Lee Appleton (TKIB Lead Guitarist) Follow The King Is Blind on FACEBOOK | TWITTER | BANDCAMP Actor Emilio Rivera ("Marcus Alvarez" on the "Sons of Anarchy" television series) will lead the 2nd Annual Ride For Ronnie Motorcycle Ride and Concert, benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund on Sunday, May 22, 2016. Drummer Tom Shrimpton is set to undertake a 24-hour drum session from midnight GMT 12th March - Midnight 13th March in aid of Comic Relief, taking a break every hour for 5 minutes. Anybody who wishes to make a contribution can do so at www.facebook.com/TomShrimpDrums or TomShrimpDrums.com This feat awaits an official confirmation but it's most likely to be at an emergency services center, Tom admits that he is "not too sure at the moment, it's proving difficult to finalize", but anyone can come visit him anytime on that Friday. For a drummer who has time and time again challenged and improved his skills, he certainly has taken this challenge in his stride and is excited about the whole thing, "I always enjoy raising money for charity and this way I get to do something I love but yet pushing myself to the limit". Naturally Tom will be pummeling away at the Sleep Inertia material as well as some Antoinette (his other band) songs, in addition to swift solo's and technical complex grooves, Tom admits to Global Metal Apocalypse that he has the gig in mind as well, " I don't want to push myself too hard too early haha", moreover because Tom is considering breaking the world record drumming session (which currently stands at 122 hours, 25 minutes and is held by Kunto Hartono from Indonesia) sometime late 2016 or sometime in 2017, but for now cautiously admits that he wants to see how this 24 hour marathon goes. Now as if that is not good enough news, well in addition to the challenge, Sleep Inertia will be performing 14th March at the The Underworld in Camden, London. The show will be used as a platform to release their debut EP “Growth, Decay, Transformation” through. The EP itself has a scheduled release date of 20th March. Sleep Inertia arose out of the ashes of The Dead Lay Waiting, featuring ex-members Ben Connett (lead guitar), Steve Franklin (rhythm guitar), Sam Sara (bass guitar) and Tom Shrimpton (drums) plus new front-man Jamie Harrison. Sleep Inertia are quickly earning themselves a reputation within the music scene. “Growth, Decay, Transformation” is exactly what you would expect from a band of this genre; a progressive-edged sound with complex and fresh riffs. https://www.facebook.com/sleepinertiaband?ref=ts&fref=ts |
