Four years after releasing their monolithic "Cloak of Ash" on Relapse Records, Brisbane’s Hope Drone return with a new meditation on personal and existential despair in the form of "Void Lustre". Crafted with patience and restraint the album sees the band travel further down the textured and dynamic pathways forged by their previous work as they dance from austere atmospheres to crashing walls of sound through frenetic blasts and thunderous dirges. Blending the likes of black metal, sludge and post-rock with influences even further afield the band creates a rich sound that is as beautiful as it is devastating.
"Void Lustre had to be dragged into existence through loss, depression and doubt", the band comments. "Songs were crafted, reformed and discarded. Ultimately however this record is a continuation of our search for catharsis, comfort and hope found in walls of sound made only for ourselves and those like us."
Engineered and produced together with the band by long-time collaborator Christopher Brownbill (Underground Audio) and released by the capable MOMENT OF COLLAPSE RECORDS (Heaven in Her Arms, Suffocate for Fuck Sake, Hope Drone self-titled) the album is built on relationships forged over the years. Joining the production fold is mastering engineer Mell Dettmer (Earth, SunnO))), Wolves in the Throne Room) who, with her deft hand and experience, brought forth a master of dynamic and clarity.
Coming August 30th on 2xLP, CD and Digital via Moment Of Collapse Records, watch out for many more news plus album tunes to follow in the days ahead!

Guitarist/composer Janne Lunnas comments:
"Riisuttu is the most versatile song we have done so far. It combines influences from progressive metal to post rock and alternative metal/rock. This song presents well the new musical directions we have started to take in our music and it is very fun to play live.
Everyone in the band are extremely happy about the music video that was made by Kaira Films (Vesa Ranta & Aapo Lahtela). We wanted to have a stylish video full of atmosphere and they delivered it perfectly! It was great to see how well body painting theme worked out with our music!"

Ukrainian Wacken Metal Battle 2018 winners Motanka release a stunning and dramatic 7 minute official video for their first single “Verba” (Ukrainian for “willow tree”) from their upcoming self-titled debut album. The video underlines the strong connection of the Mystic Metal four-piece to mystical nature and ancient traditions.
Motanka will release their self-titled debut album Motanka on June 7th via Napalm Records. Influenced by traditional Ukrainian folk music, metal tunes and modern electronica, the band creates a very unique mix that the band refers to as Mystic Metal. Motanka managed to capture the trance-like magic of their live shows on their debut, which leaves each and every stereotype behind and hypnotizes with heavy ethno soundscapes.
Motanka on “Verba”:
“One of the strongest songs that has powerful energy. The energy that all of us really need now. All we want to say is in it, all you want to know or ask, you will find in it.”
The Ukrainian lyrics in English:
Verba - Willow tree
A lonely willow tree stays in the field.
It is bended above the river.
It let its branches down,
It cries and fights…
Our language is like one of a nightingale.
Our land is the one and only.
A lonely willow tree
A lonely willow tree
Our souls are flying nearby,
They are praising their land.
Its branches are waving in the wind.
There are sprouts - you and me.
Our language is like one of a nightingale.
Our land is the one and only.
A lonely willow tree
A lonely willow tree
MOTANKA about their debut LP:
“For the album we recorded ancient instruments: dulcimer, ocarina and throat singing, combined with modern technologies, new instruments and analogue sound. This album is like our child, it grew, it learnt and became stronger and stronger. Every piece of the album is saturated with the mystical nature of Ukraine. We wrote most of the songs in our home town Lutsk the mystical centre of Ukraine. The power of the region remained and still is the same for ages.We have prepared the album for many years and are very excited to finally present it via Napalm Records.”
The mix of English and Ukrainian lyrics and instrumental songs underlines the diversity of Motanka. The album will be available in the following formats:
Motanka is the name of the traditional doll that ancient Ukrainians used as an overseer for their protection and for the communication with their ancestors.
Victor Verba (Zhalnin) - vocals, keyboard, dulcimer
Anatolii Zhalnin - guitar
Sergii Hodik (Khodorchuk) - bass-guitar, ocarinas
Dmytro Svarog (Diachenko) - drums, throat singing

Russian Atmospheric Black/Death Metal band Absence Betrayal released new video clip for "Devotion" - https://youtu.be/b1UMflLmHqA
Absence Betrayal it's when emotions, experiences and morality entwining together, creating a live extreme music unit. Every song from this band is a separate and sad history with its philosophical implication and sense. The band was created as a studio project of one man (vocalist Andrey Baranov) but actual themes and music quickly found the response, so there came a desire to play this music live.
Ruadh (which is pronounced "Roo-Ah" and translates to "red" is a one man Atmospheric
Black Metal project from Glasgow, Scotland. Drawing from the vast well of history, culture and
mythology, musician and songwriter Tom Perrett set out to compose music purely to taste, creating an unmistakable atmosphere with the beating heart of old school Black Metal favourites of his, such as Windir, Bathory, Burzum and others, which should also appeal to fans of Saor, Winterfylleth, Panopticon and similar acts.
Tom was born and raised in one of the oldest Burghs in Scotland, which translates to "The red glen". The derivation of the name of the town is un clear but one theory is that the area was once a settlement of Reuther, an ancient king of the Scots, who ruled between 213 and 187 BC. Ruadh’s debut album “Sovereign” will be released digitally and as collector’s edition in CD digipak (limited to 1000 copies) on 12.04.19

Lucidity continues to paint melancholic landscapes with their new album, Oceanum, as the colour palette remains as dark as ever. Compared to their well received debut album (The Oblivion Circle 2015), Lucidity dives deeper into dark waters as ever before. The lack of bright colours has been replaced with versatility, by pushing far ends further away from each other. There are also some unexpected influences and elements. This time the material is a lot more carefully planned and finished, down to the soundscape as well.
Singaporean two-piece atmospheric doom outfit Onset's debut EP, Unstructured Dissemination, bridges a fine line between doom, post rock and even death/black metal elements. The EP was previously only made available on bandcamp and now it will see a proper release on CD format under the banner of Japanese doom specialized label Weird Truth Productions. This EP Features Sigh mastermind Mirai Kawashima and Singaporean darkwave prodigy Microchip Terror on synthnoises.

Formed in early 2017, to simply pigeonhole Onset as a “doom band would” just be scratching the surface; the influences brought forward to the band are extremely diverse, with an almost no-holds-barred attitude and seeping in emotive passages surging into post-rock territory while still staying remotely under the radar of the doom genre itself. The tempo and the vibe embody the feeling of melancholy and dread.
The “Unstructured Dissemination” EP showcases two imposing tracks clocking at over 25 minutes in length, as well as an undaunted attempt to record them in a completely live and rehearsal-like environment. Another very integral part of the Onset sound comes from the collaborative effort of synthwave artist Microchip Terror, who provided a very cinematic approach amongst the wash of fuzzed-out guitars and wall of drums, thus giving the entire EP an incredible spectrum of soundscape. Also featuring Mirai Kawashima from Sigh on additional keys/synth on both the intro and outro tracks.
The cover artwork for “Unstructured Dissemination” was designed by Branca Studio (Paradise Lost, Marty Friedman, Foo Fighters, Confrontational, etc) teaming up with the band’s concept and vision perfectly.
“Unstructured Dissemination” will be released on CD version under Japanese seminal doom label Weird Truth Productions on November 28, 2018.
Skillfully fusing the aesthetics of black metal with the atmospherics of post-rock in order to create a soundscape that is both breathtaking and mesmerizing, Norwegian blackgazers Avast are set to release their debut full-length album Mother Culture on October 26th through Dark Essence Records.
As a prelude to the release of Mother Culture, Dark Essence Records has released the title track as a single, which is available from and can be heard at https://avastband.bandcamp.com/track/mother-culture.
Hailing from Stavanger, Norway, Avast consists of Hans Olaf Myrvang (Agenda) on bass and vocals, Trond Salte (Agenda), Ørjan Lund (Nag) on guitars, and Stian Steensnæs (Lik) on drums, Avast is a band that reviewers and promoters place in a variety of genres. Whilst the band's roots lie in punk rock and hardcore, it would be safe to say that blackgaze and post-black metal are genres that could be applied to Avast, given that Avast's lyrical themes are not centred around the usual black metal topics, but tend more towards a philosophical and poetical take on social and environmental issues.
The members of Avast themselves describe Mother Culture as:-
“a concept album that examines the myths upon which modern civilization is based”, and “an apocalyptic tale about the rise and fall of human civilization, and how we have exploited the Earth’s resources to such a degree that we are now standing on the brink of our own extinction. Musically the record borrows equally from the black metal and post-rock genres, and lyrically it draws inspiration from Daniel Quinn’s philosophical novel Ishmael.”
Artwork by Ole Nymoen.
Mother Culture will be released in CD, Digital and limited edition white vinyl formats, and is now available to pre-order from:

New Zealand-based atmospheric metal ensemble Spook The Horses today debuts the visual accompaniment to "Following Trails." Now playing courtesy of New Noise Magazine, the hymn comes by way of the band's People Used To Live Here full-length released last year via Pelagic Records.
Issues the band:-
"The video is based upon a recollection of a dream, filmed within the house that the record People Used To Live Here was originally written, and is intended as both a literal and metaphorical reflection on ideas relating to the subjective limits of self, perspicacity, and self-determinism."

Imagine if band members could rotate between instrument positions, because each musician had a proficient grasp on each instrument involved? It would supply a degree of freedom and mutual musical understanding, something that most bands could only dream of. Spook The Horses, from Wellington, New Zealand, are such a band.
Perhaps it's this multi instrumentalism and virtuosity that explains the vast musical territory that is explored among the band's three albums: while 2011's debut album Brighter was defined by sweet post-rock crescendos, 2015's Rainmaker was a much heavier affair that would appeal to fans of Cult Of Luna or Amenra. The band's forthcoming People Used To Live Here, in quiet stark contrast to the aforementioned, sees the band turn the distortion knobs way down, to a mildly saturated crunch tone, at most.
The band's most daring effort to date, People Used To Live Here explores the natural and immediate. Written and conceived in relative isolation over several grim Southern Hemisphere winters, Spook The Horses is defining their own sonic trademark with this album: an atmosphere of quiet desolation, raw and real, desperate and unsettling; the post-apocalyptic soundtrack to abandoned places, where people used to live, at one point in time, long ago.
Fans of Bohren & Der Club Of Gore, Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, Mogwai (Come On Die Young), and Amenra (acoustic), pay heed.
