Few musicians manage to make a worldwide impact with their music. Fewer still manage to pull that trick off twice – but Dez Fafara, the leader of DevilDriver, is one of this elite number. Formed in Santa Barbara, CA in 2002 when vocalist & frontman Dez Fafara’s previous band Coal Chamber were winding down, the five piece have since become a constant and dynamic force in the metal world over the best part of the last two decades. Now this deluxe collection of their first five albums entitled Clouds Over California documents their meteoric rise and is available in deluxe splatter LP and expanded CD format. DevilDriver’s first, self-titled album DevilDriver had established a successful, groove-heavy precedent on its release in 2003 – but when the Californian quintet got together to compose material for the follow-up album two years later, their music had evolved to an unexpected degree, the result was The Fury Of Our Makers Hand. 2007’s The Last Kind Words was recorded as the, then DevilDriver line-up reached the apogee of its powers, ranging from mercilessly fast extreme metal, to subtler, slower territory and all points between. When Pray For Villains was recorded and released in 2009 the album was a deliberate attempt by DevilDriver to step back a little, inject some textures into the songs and allow the music to breathe, while still staying true to their sound. Their fifth album, 2011’s Beast made a clear statement of intent. It’s predecessor was deliberately more introspective so the intention was to amp everything up tenfold this time by getting visceral and violent again.

A group of Iranian musicians have contributed to a new compilation, Homanity, to raise awareness about the censorship and persecution artists face in Iran. The compilation was spearheaded by Crowdsourcing Human Rights and Democracy Council and will be released on May 7th. Iran metallers Tarantist contributed with the track "Soldiering" and can listen to these locations:
Tarantist emerged from Tehran’s underground rock and metal scene in 2000. Their new release “Soldiering,” addresses Iran’s mandatory military conscription for men, who must serve for two years, without pay or benefits, if they want to go to university, get a passport, or participate in other economic activities. Many who do not want to serve are forced to flee Iran, and that comes with its own set of consequences. People who escape the country (sneaking out from mountains in the borders) without having passport or military service documents are not able to return back to the country or even travel freely throughout the rest of the world. The Wellington based malicious quartet has most recently crossed the threshold of an unprecedented level by bringing forth their debut LP, Death Ordinance. However, it will be inappropriate to glorify them solely based on the excellence of that album. Krucyator Productions offer the compilation CD Incursions —collecting all the materials that Heresiarch spawned prior to their 2017’s full length. All the tracks were newly mastered for this compilation album by Luke Finlay at Primal Mastering Studio to have an overall coherent sounding. Presented in sequential order, the compilation starts with the numbers from 2011’s ruinous demo, Obsecrating the Global Holocaust. Having two originals and one Bathory tribute (Equimanthorn), this demo helped Heresiarch to create a strong buzz in the underground. The following six tracks are taken from the celebrated EP Hammer of Intransigencethe, originally came out a few months after the demo. The final three tracks are borrowed from their 2014’s manifestation, Wælwulf. Incursions is the representation of Heresiarch’s relentless savagery. Available on CD via Krucyator Productions from April 22nd. . Order CD:

Set for international release on May 25th via Iron Bonehead Productions, hear Melan Selas' Reon in its entirety exclusively HERE. Melan Selas are a black metal duo hailing from Greece, comprised of vocalist/lyricist Ἀστραία (Astraea) - Oletir and multi-instrumentalist D.K. Formed in Trikala in 2016, the selfsame four-song Melan Selas debut EP soon followed that year on CD format. Here, Melan Selas march triumphantly forward with a mid-tempo, bass-driven sound that largely recalls the classic Hellenic black metal canon, but with a Lilith-like magic all their own. In fact, the titles to the EP's first two tracks - "Ethereal Annihilation" and "Ancient Spirit" - ring truer than most other descriptions of the band's sound. Stoic and steely, simmering with a touch of madness spilling over into mysticism: this first recording set the stage for Melan Selas' next strike, which are two brand-new epics collected here for the first time. Longer and stronger, given to galloping blasts of speed, the latest developments of Melan Selas' sound charge forward with even more excitement and an addicting sense of victory. Additionally, a further flare for the classic Greek black metal sound is both defined and reinvigorated; you could easily say Reon came out 25 years ago as you could today. But let it be known that Melan Selas are no mere nostalgia act: their black metal is a deeply personal and potent sort, done with equal amounts reverence and abandon. With their Melan Selas EP completing side B of the vinyl LP, Melan Selas' Reon is a dramatic introduction to what surely could become the black metal underground's new king and queen. Hail Hellas! Hail fully exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine. Rotting Christ are announcing the release of 'Their Greatest Spells'. This double-CD compilation features a best of selection approved by frontman Sakis Tolis as well as the new track "I Will Not Serve" and will hit the stores on March 23rd. Artwork, track-list, and album details of 'Their Greatest Spells' can be viewed below.
Rotting Christ have reached another peak in their long career that now spans over more than three decades. The Greeks have literally stood the test of time. With a steady core line-up and their well-honed live delivery, Rotting Christ are filling concert halls and reap enthusiastic crowd reactions wherever they go. This demonstration of love from their followers is not just driven by nostalgia as the band has managed to evolve and grow, while staying relevant beyond the classics with their highly acclaimed latest albums such as 'Aealo' (2010), 'Κατά τον δαίμονα εαυτού’ (2013), and 'Rituals' (2016).
With more than 30 years, 12 studio albums, a dozen EPs, singles and split releases, as well as more than 1.250 shows under their belt, it is about high time to take a retrospective look at this band's fascinating musical development by picking a select choice of key tracks covering the many facets of Rotting Christ that have sparkled over the years. With such a massive catalogue such an undertaking will always lead to controversy about certain additions as well as omissions from the final list, but the involvement of frontman Sakis Tolis in this extremely difficult task ensures that the result is at least relevant. Rotting Christ were founded by Sakis Tolis and his brother Themis in the year 1987. Starting out on a basis of death and grind, the Greeks had already embarked on a darker musical journey by the time their debut full-length ‘Thy Mighty Contract’ (1993) was revealed. On the following seven albums covering a ten-year period from 'Non Serviam' (1994) to 'Sanctus Diavolos' (2004), Rotting Christ steadily defined their own distinct style by experimenting with elements from death, heavy, and gothic metal without betraying their black roots. At the same time, the band went from underground heroes to headliner status. With the highly acclaimed ninth album, 'Theogonia' (2007), the Greek stalwarts added an unmistakable native element to their sound, which has remained with them as a signature trademark ever since. Exploring the mythical legacy of cultures around the globe let to Rotting Christ 's massively successful latest release, 'Rituals'. With 'Their Greatest Spells', the Greek metal icons musically revisit their exciting legacy and even contribute a brand new track entitled "I Will Not Serve" to connect their past with the present. Some of the first-person accounts I've read will haunt me for a long time. For a lot of people here, it will be difficult and take a long time to get back to some kind of normalcy or get close to replacing what was lost. But I was astounded by the response of regular people here that stepped up and rescued and helped others." Help Houston rebuild and pick up the Making Waves at THIS LOCATION.
