![]() REGION: COUNTRY: ITALY GENRE: METALCORE / HARDCORE This is a new initiative set out by the Global Metal Apocalypse team in attempt to exploit and promote fresh underground unsigned talent to the masses. Every so often (possibly weekly) an unsigned band will be plucked out of the abyss and showcased, and so for this week it is Shake Well Before from Italy. _Shake Well Before is a Metalcore / Hardcore band from Italy which formed in 2008. The project started with the recording of their first 3-track promo. With the video "This Butterfly Is A Dragon" the word of this Italian stallion was soon spread. After a few important concerts (sharing the stage with bands like Adept, Hand To Hand, Hopes Die Last, Post Offense, More Than A Thousand, The Dead Lay Waiting and many more) the quintet won a regional contest as the "best young band" in 2009. In the same year the band went on to record their very first self-produced EP called "Rational Painkillers Pills" during a trip in Munich,Germany and all 500 copies were sold.
Through a few line-up changes the band changed their style as well and had a rebirth. The first serious single "Watching Jersey Shore" has been out since october 2011 was recorded by Marco Mantovani (Hopes Die Last) as a taster to the EP. The EP called "Goliath" was recorded at the Fusix Studio by Andrea Fusini, well-known to the Italian music scene and released on March 2012. "Insomnia" was the first single taken of the EP with a video directed by Andrea Larosa on youtube which can be viewed here. Right now the band is promoting "Goliath" and working on brand new stuff! https://www.facebook.com/shakewellbefore _ Sweden-based Heavy metallers Katanaare having their album “Storms of War” exclusively streamed on the Terrorizer website. Check it out!
2011 was a busy year for the band. Since the release of their debut album "Heads Will Roll" last spring, Katana not only found time to tour with both the likes of Where Angels Suffer, featuring Chris Holmes and Stet Howland (ex-W.A.S.P.) and American metal legends Lizzy Borden. They also entered the studio to record their second album, entitled "Storms of War". Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Katana has been around for several years and has already made a great name for themselves in the underground metal scene of Sweden and Europe. In 2010, the band won the prestigious Wacken Metal Battle which earned them a slot at the Wacken Open Air, as well as the Sweden Rock Festival. Their debut album has been critically acclaimed all over the world, and Malcolm Dome of Classic Rock Magazine wrote: "This quintet will make a significant mark. This debut is only the beginning of what should be a thrilling march". With the new album, "Storms of War", produced by King Diamond guitarist Andy La Rocque, the bandmean to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that classic heavy metal in the veins of early Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Saxon is here to stay! http://www.facebook.com/KatanaOfficial http://www.myspace.com/bladeofkatana “Storms of War” available on Listenable eshop - http://shop.listenable.net/product.php?id_product=3119 RHYS STEVENSON Leaves' Eyes will join Firewind on their European tour in September including 10 UK and Irish dates

It will be out on Napalm Records later in the year. RHYS STEVENSON As our beloved majesty, Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II marks her 60 years in reign on the 2nd June 2012, Global Metal Apocalypse thought hard about this and because of this momentous and jubilant occasion, I (Rhys Stevenson) decided what songs to include as a special 'Metal Diamond Jubilee Party' soundtrack / gift to our Queen, therefore I came to the conclusion that it is best to include one song from one band per country in the commonwealth; with special appearances from bands in dependencies and seperate islands to the United Kingdom. These bands are as we feel, true flagbearers of their home nations / regions, these are bands who are making waves and truly emblaze the commonwealth pact in all of our hearts; some countries are not directly in the commonwealth i.e. Bahrain, but because they were British Empire territories pre-Second World War, they are eligable to join, so it would be unjust not to include them. On behalf of Global Metal Apocalypse and the University of Essex Metal society, I wish our lovely Queen Elizabeth II a happy, graceful and truly spectacular Diamond jubilee. Songs are in order as according to flag appearance (L-R)
“10.000 Days“, a brand new song from Danish groove metal ensemble Chainfist, can be streamed here. The track was recorded at Six String Studios with Søren Jensen and was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansenat Hansen Studios.
Jackie has this to say: “It’s time yet another new song from Chainfist. This time we’ll give a badass heavy song called “10K”. It shows the more melodic side of Chainfist, and like “Mass Frustration” we went for a more old-school sound like the good old 90’s. This song got it all, from body bouncing, neck breaking riffs too more melodic and slow breakdowns, you will love this for sure. The song will be featured on the yet no named 2nd cd from Chainfist, due to be recorded this fall 2012. So ladies and gents, we present to you: “10K” aka “10.000 Days” – Play it loud, share it and most of all, break your neck!!” The band recently signed a worldwide management deal with Rock N Growl Management, consists of the following musicians: Jackie Petersen (vocals) Michael Kopietz (guitar) Thomas Hvisel (guitar) Jesper Heidelbach (drums) Braca Pedersen (bass). The band is currently recording its second, as-yet-untitled album for a late 2012 release. Furthermore Chainfist headlines this year the Knivsbjerg Rock Spectacle Festival 2012 on the 2nd June 2012 with Hongo Skulls, More Roar, Clearway, Face Red Lion and Nebcube, so if you’re in Denmark, you should be in for a surprise or two! www.chainfist.net www.facebook.com/chainfist www.rockngrowl.com RHYS STEVENSON _Yorkshire mob With One Last Breathhave premiered a fresh new track “Wake It Up” as a free stream exclusively through Rock Sound TV which can be heard here.
Guitarist and vocalist Sam Graves comments: "The new track Rock Sound are streaming is one of the more varied songs from the new album we have been recording. The track 'Wake It Up' is about the aftershow parties and general antics of being a band on tour. The song is upbeat with a chorus we want people to sing back at us filled out with a massive 80's style solo that we should already be known for! It's got everything that this band stands for in one song: catchy singing, pounding screams, solos, riffs and breakdowns with originality". 2012 has been a teutonic year for the boys as they toured the UK with Asking Alexandria, Yashin, Of Mice & Men and recently destroying The Big Deal Clothing stage at Hit The Deck Festival. They are also scheduled to support Skindred at the Relentless Garage in London on June 5th as part of the Kerrang! Awards and will be playing two sets at this years Download Festival (acoustically on Friday 8th June – Jagermeister Stage and full set on Sunday 10th June – Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage). RHYS STEVENSON _Rival Sons have just recently finished the recording of their upcoming new album, which is due for a release date in late August via Earache Records.
The band recorded their yet-to-be titled album with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Cobb (Jamie Johnson, Shooter Jennings) and Grammy-winning engineer Vance Powell (Jack White, The White Stripes, Kings of Leon) in Nashville, Tennesee, where they worked with some of the exact equipment used by Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly at the legendary Sun Studio. Dave Cobb comments: "The making of the new album could be compared to a hurricane - it started off with a cool breeze, then quickly turned into raging winds and chaos, to being a tranquil calm in the eye of the storm for a couple of days, then to pure destruction, and then finishing with the most beautiful rainbow you've ever seen when it was completed! We recorded the album through mainly gear from the '50s and '60s - all old American tube stuff augmented by a vintage 1970s API console, all live with lotsa attitude and bleed. We even wrangled up the original mono ampex slap tape machine from Sun Studios from Memphis and the bass DI was from the Quanset Hut in Nashville where it had been used on Buddy Holly, Elvis, even Patsy Cline." Vance Powell adds: "A great combination of familiar sounds presented in a completely new way. It was great working with them." Guitarist Scott Holiday talks about recording the new album: "One of the really great things about David is his complete commitment to his gear obsession. I'm pretty nerdy with my own gear for studio and stage, but Dave just takes it to a whole other level with his studio. Compressors, pre-amps and other assorted gadgets from the most famous studios in the history of recording, including Sun Records, Decca, Capitol in Nashville etc... This is equipment that was used by The Who, Elvis Presley etc. Pretty incredible. It was also great to have Vance Powell to engineer and mix, who has the same fetish for gear collecting, with a special penchant for 'unusual and hard to get'. We use a lot of old equipment, but the intent isn't to make an 'old sounding record'... We use that incredible equipment simply because it sounds the best. Likewise, we'll use a lot of the old recording techniques, like distant-micing the drums, a la Glen Johns, using old huge analog plate reverbs, distant-micing on the guitars, and simply tracking everything together live in the same room. I used my live guitars on the album: a '62 Fender Jazz Master, a '65 Gibson non-reverse Firebird V, and a custom historic Firebird VII, as well as some of David's guitar collection too, including a '60 Gibson 335 with Bigsby, a Gretsch White Penguin, a '52 Gibby Les Paul conversion, and an early '60s Harmony Rocket, a la The Kinks! A few of the main amps were an old '40s Supro with a little 6" speaker, a Silvertone 2x12, and a VOX Berkley. Also many cool, old and new fuzz boxes, and a ton of other pedals. A cornucopia of fuzz rock colors and flavors. It was a very 'chew you up and spit you out' kind of process... Working with immediate decisions and performances day after day. It becomes even more intense when you're using a lot of first takes. For me, it's a mission to give the listener something as pure, honest and unadulterated as possible, which seemingly is the antithesis to the trend in mainstream music right now. The goal (tonally and song-wise) was to really spread our wings and reflect the past year... Playing live every night, doing a lot of improvising and exploring musically, and to open up some new territory, topically and sonically."
