Vietnamese / South Korean Prog Metalcore outfit Windrunner debut 'Sakura' music video

10/11/2018

Picture

Once again it's release day for the Progressive Metalcore outfit Windrunner, who have teamed up with Dreambound to premiere the music video for their latest effort, "Sakura".

The female-fronted Vietnamese band is joined in the video by Sang Yul Song, vocalist for the South Korean band End These Days, whose screams perfectly compliment clean vocalist and front-woman Duong's in this aggressive, energetic and yet still melodic single. While Windrunner strive to create new, unique and introspective music that doesn't resemble anyone else's, a few comparisons might come to mind: if you're a fan of Erra or Invent Animate, you will surely find something to sink your teeth into. From the groove these guys bring to the table, to the fantastic cleans that could rival some pop stars', Windrunner are here to make a statement and an impression.

We've asked the band to shed some light on the track and what it means to them:-

"Sakura portrays the complex feelings one might experience when you put a lot of trust in the people who are dear to you, yet you don't get the same in return. It can turn into disappointment, anger, sadness and overall just bring a negative energy into your life. However, it is important to realize and respect the difference between each individual, rather than forcing our expectations onto others. It is okay to feel all these emotions, and sometimes it hurts, but after all of that, it is important to keep a clear head, embrace the good times, and continue to pursue what you believe in."

You can pre-order or pre-save the band's debut full length, due out November 30th, now, and get all the singles as gratification tracks right away.

Windrunner are a progressive metalcore quintet hailing from Hanoi, Vietnam. Founded in early 2015 from the merger of two renowned Vietnamese metalcore bands: Epione and Alive In Sight, Windrunner quickly made a name for themselves with their unique blend of rhythm and melodies, groovy yet intricate riffs, soothing ambience, melodic guitar lines, coupled with catchy vocal choruses from female vocalist Duong Bui. Their debut EP “VUI” was released in June 2015 and received positive acclaims from around the world.

Since then, Windrunner have actively toured around Vietnam, South East Asia and South Korea, supporting bands such as Attila, Secrets, Benighted, Hiss From The Moat, Coldburn, King Ly Chee, Born From Pain, Earthists, and many others. Their debut full length, "MAI", is slotted for release on November 30th, 2018 via Famined Records.

Pre-order or pre-save MAI now to get all singles as instant gratification tracks

Joining the ranks at Sliptrick Records this week is the South Korean Dark Symphonic / Black Metal group Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy.

“Naturalness within unnaturalness, or the gathering between sorrow and ecstasy”

From various forms of musical expression, the Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy themes use spontaneous minor key melodies which deeply infect the listener’s sensitivity. Coming from the existing local music standards, their breaking and mixing of musical styles is not easily categorized. The group have an inclination toward experimental and progressiveness which further incite and stimulate the listener’s mind. All coming from their strong creative base. Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy, with their flashing musical sensibilities and outstanding song-writing pay close attention to their evolving course.

The band name Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy is taken from the Middle-age prophet Nostradamus, who saw the through his mirror, a dark and cursed future. Like their name, the music is the combination of small pieces of echoing memories from their own life experiences carved together by going back and forth from the dark to the light. They conjure these sources with basic instruments such as guitar, bass, drums and keyboard with a natural combination of minor keys which fully express their eastern sentiments.

Classical gothic music is the outstanding essence of Dark Mirror Ov Tragedy, with anguished vocals and brooding instruments performing chapters and poems which evoke nothingness and wholeness, darkness and daylight, beauty and ugliness!

South Korean thrash metal band Sahon play aggressive thrash metal with the heart in the right place. I'm sure you won't find many such bands, especially from that part of the world. Decibel Magazine premiered a ripping track HERE, with the following words by writer Vince Bellino -

"If you like your thrash relentless and fast as hell, Sahon have what you seek. The South Korean thrashers have been tearing it up for nearly two decades in their hometown of Seoul, releasing six albums since 2002."

South Korean thrash metal band Sahon have been waging a war against stereotypes since the late '90s and forging a sound that distils the best elements of extreme metal into a form of thrash metal that holds its own when pitted against the rest. Their latest release encapsulates the struggle over the years and showcases their affinity for their culture and music. From the quaint painting to the very structuring of these aggressive songs, Sahon are proud of their Korean heritage and that is what makes them unique today.

Firewind announces new album 'Immortals' & UK tour for February

1. Hands Of Time
2. We Defy
3. Ode To Leonidas
4. Back On The Throne
5. Live And Die By The Sword
6. Wars Of Ages
7. Lady Of 1000 Sorrows
8. Immortals
9. Warriors And Saints
10. Rise From The Ashes

Greek melodic Power metal masters Firewind, the group led by guitar-wizard and Ozzy Osbourne band member Gus G., are proud to announce the release of their upcoming 8th studio album, 'Immortals', which will be released on January 20th, 2017 via the band’s long-time label partner Century Media Records in Europe.

Gus G. checked in to comment about 'Immortals' and its artwork (which can be seen above!) as follows: “Today we're very happy to reveal the cover artwork for our 8th studio album. It's titled "Immortals" and it's the first concept album Firewind has ever made. Since we're from Greece, we thought it would be a cool idea to make a concept of Greek history and heritage. So, on this album we focused on the legendary battles of Thermopylae and Salamis during the 2nd Persian invasion of Greece in 480 BC. The artwork was once again created by our long-time collaborator, Gustavo Sazes and we feel it reflects the vibe we tried to capture on this album - Epic, Powerful, Glorious, Everlasting.”

'Immortals' marks the first time Firewind used an outside co-producer, working with Dennis Ward (Unisonic, Pink Cream 69), who not only engineered, mixed and mastered the album, but also co-wrote it together with Gus G.

Next to the standard jewel case CD and Digital Download formats, “Immortals” will also be released as LP on 180gr vinyl with a poster as well as the entire album on CD as bonus. Additionally, there will also be a limited edition Media-book CD with expanded booklet, a bonus track and 3 stickers. Look out for more details and pre-order details soon…

A first album’s online single is set to debut on November 25th, but in the meantime you can already check out a few sample riffs in a play-through clip that Gus G. recorded in co-operation with Toontrack’s EZmix 2 and the Metal Guitar Gods 4 EZmix Pack expansion here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5E7SFBKYVcU

Gus G. and Toontrack have also launched a regular "Metal Month Masterclass" series of video lessons, of which the first two episodes can be seen here:

2. Phrasing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3rJScx9nAk
