The most impressive symphonic metal album of 2013 is here. Proceeding in the vein of those good old school fantasy stories, "The Crystal Throne" offers some truly firmament-touching choruses, challenging atonal-classical solo escapades and horizon-wide orchestrations alike. All this is bound up with a map and the tight chronological lyrics where the party travels through the agonizing caves, spacious moors and mountains, all the way to face their final challenge...
Are rats capable of defeating a party stumbling in a cave? Can souls be fettered behind bars? Should were-spiders belong to the Amnestys list of endangered species? Is it possible for a lightning to strike at a stony castle tower? Epicrenel provides the answers to i.a. these tricky questions with their shamelessly challenging debut album, filling the gaps and expectations of the genre with uncompromising storytelling and high-flying virtuocity. Warning: Contains no dragon ingredients... Tracklist 1. The Calling (Instr.) 2. To Cursed Lands Again 3. Where Kingdoms Fall 4. Walls Of The Cave 5. Floating Souls 6. Guarding Fellhound 7. In the Dungeon 8. Skyride (Instr.) 9. Defenders of the Crown 10. Fantoms' Grove 11. Conquering the Throne 12. The Coronation (Instr.) "The Crystal Throne" is out 5th April 2013 via Inverse Records http://www.myspace.com/epicrenel After the release of 2011’s "Break the Silence" (#23 in the German LP charts) and the headlining tour through 7 European countries in support of the album, the vocal masters of Van Canto took the very first live break in their career. They used the time to work on numerous side projects – including Stef’s new Power Metal band Heavatar – and to recharge the batteries for their return in 2013! Besides festival appearances (e.g. RockHarz and Summer Breeze) the band will also release their fifth studio album in the fall / winter of 2013. In addition, Van Canto renewed their deal with Napalm Records. Nadir, Napalm Records' A&R was happy with the outcome, as "Van Canto is innovative, unique and polarizing – that’s the best thing that can happen to a label. You must not let a band like this go, and that’s why we are proud that Van Canto continue to work with us. Together, we will shake the foundations of the Metal world!" On a similar note, Stef of Van Canto stated that taking "a break for a full year was quite odd for us. Maybe there are bands that are satisfied with releasing an album every 5 years, but for us it felt quite unnatural to stay away from the stage for a full year. We have checked out new things, and are now more eager than ever to return with Van Canto. We are happy that Napalm Records will be the partner for our fifth album. The album will be the most heroic, heaviest and most symphonic album in our discography, and we cannot wait to enter the studio. Rakkatakka Motherfuckers!" http://www.vancanto.de Get ready for merciless brutality, because Legion of the Damned are about to enter the Stage One Studio in order the record their new songs with Andy Classen. "Ravenous Plague" will be unleashed in the summer! In addition, the band will post a first update from the studio in the upcoming days! http://www.legionofthedamned.net/2012/index.html Double success for two of Napalm Records' bands, The Sorrow and Konrust are both nominated for an Amadeus Award in the category "Hard & Heavy". Check out the current video of ‘Romeo Delight’ at this location. Adrenaline Mob guitarist Mike Orlando states: “Recording 'Romeo Delight' was an absolute blast for me. I grew up listening to EVH, and from the moment I heard 'Eruption,' I was hooked for life! Tracking the guitars was such a blast, as I plugged in my white-and-black Charvel, my trusty ol' MXR Phase 90 and went right into my cranked-up Marshall JCM800, entering that EVH zone and giving my all to pay tribute to one of the greatest rock guitarists ever! We had a great time with Mike Portnoy's idea to insert a medley of kick-ass VH parts in the mid-section while going into a great treat before we head back to the final chorus!” "Coverta" is an eight-track EP featuring cover versions of some of the band’s favorite songs. Long-time fans of Mike Portnoy are aware of the multiple cover CDs he has released with Dream Theater and with Neal Morse. Coverta is the first CD of covers recorded by Adrenaline Mob. Here is what the band have to say about the music video and it's background:
"In a post modern, post humanist society, the individual plays the role of a simple pawn, submitting directly or indirectly to new rules. Freedom loses it's essential sense, that is to confront any established order and the psyche is emptied by personality and submitted to the new system on an idolizing way. This is the game that the society produces in a desperate attempt to detain absolute control by any means necessary, thus creating different realities. The individual loses contact with the real world, becoming unconscious and as a result, submissive. All meanings lose sense the moment reality is wrapped in the technological aura, thus becoming the new universe... Psychotherapy is about the way this addictive power game is created. The masses are bombarded with negative information, creating problems that society itself tries to solve back. By fear, the individual is reduced to the stage of a trained animal and someone, unknown, seizes absolute power." The video was directed and edited by Costin Chioreanu (www.twilight13media.com), the technical assistant and makeup artist was Gina Sandulescu, the male character was played by Nikolay Fikov. The song will be included on Krepuskul's upcoming new album which is to be launched in the beginning of 2014. The song was recorded by Adrian "OQ" Neagoe at Liveset studio in Cluj Napoca, Romania (www.liveset.ro). The mastering work was conducted by Marius Costache (www.mariuscostache.ro). In spring 2013, Krepuskul will hit the road again on an european tour called "PsychoTOURapy" and the dates will be announced soon, so stay tuned. www.facebook.com/KrepuskulRomania The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists: New Quote Snippets from Kerry King and Philip Anselmo Released!27/2/2013 “The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists, compiled by Howie Abrams and Sacha Jenkins, is the ultimate look at the world of heavy metal via the ease and convenience of a list. No stone is left unturned here, and I mean no stone. If you think you have a list about metal that isn’t in this book, chances are you’re wrong. Both Jenkins and Abrams have exhaustively researched and brainstormed Merciless and delivered a look at their beloved genre that is informative and fun.” – Iann Robinson, CraveOnline.com
The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists, written by New York City music scene veterans Howie Abrams and Sacha Jenkins, is set to be released on April 9, 2013. Touted as being “the most opinionated compendium ever written concerning Heavy Metal”, The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists is comprised of 208 jam-packed pages representing all that is glorious across the world of Heavy Metal. The book features dozens of never-before-seen photographs from iconic East Coast photographer Frank White. The foreword for The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists comes from one of the most respected names in the genre, Slayer guitarist extraordinaire Kerry King, with a candid and passionate afterword from Pantera / Down frontman Philip Anselmo. Kerry King of Slayer states that the "book will appeal to metalheads because it's what they love. They'll get to laugh at the industry and at themselves. Any information is good information, and metal kids want it", Philip Anselmo of Pantera and Down has similar thoughts as he states he is "an unabashed heavy metal fan, and I know as well as anyone, that metal fans can be an extremely loyal lot. But we are a very critical lot too. With each new movement, a new, defiant, outspoken, and sovereign audience is born. Music is older than all of us, so its history is ours to writhe in and absorb". Numerous other contributions comes from the likes of: Scott Ian (Anthrax), Gary Holt (Exodus), Max Cavalera (Sepultura / Soulfly), Katon W. DePena (Hirax), John Gallagher (Raven), Danny Lilker (Nuclear Assault / SOD), Eddie Trunk (That Metal Show), Jon & Marsha Zazula (Megaforce Records), Brian Slagel (Metal Blade Records), Flemming Rasmussen (Metallica Producer), ILL BILL (Heavy Metal Kings / La Coka Nostra), MC Serch (3rd Bass), Richard Christy (Charred Walls of the Damned / The Howard Stern Show), Monte Conner (Roadrunner Records / Nuclear Blast Records), Borivoj Krgin (Blabbermouth.net), Shaun Glass (Soil / Dirge Within) and Betsy Weiss (Bitch) Presented in the form of dozens of factual, random and often outrageous lists, The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists dares to call many out for being the worst instead of being the best. It points out the triumphs, as well as the miserable failures concerning metal, from a diehard fan's point-of-view. It leaves no stone unturned, often blurring the lines separating fact and hilarity. You want to know about album covers that feature goats on them? What Motorhead icon Lemmy's warts might tell you if they could speak? The achievements Iron Maiden would never have reached had their original vocalist Paul Dianno remained in the band? Well then, this book is for you. To pre-order The Merciless Book Of Metal Lists, please visit Amazon.com. You can learn more about the book at the official Facebook page or Abrams Books. American Sludge Metal Kylesa have announced the title and release date of their forthcoming album. Considered to be one of the most anticipated hard rock releases of 2013 and the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed album "Spiral Shadow", 'Ultraviolet' will hit the stores on May 24th (May 28th in North America).
For fans a taster of whats to come is in stock as "Unspoken", one of the new songs from the eleven-track album is now available for those who subscribe to the Season of Mist newsletter. Of course, if you have already subscribed to the newsletter, you can still get the MP3. All you have to do is enter your email address in the widget you will find on the respective websites of Season of Mist partners Terrorizer (UK), Metal.de (Germany), and Inferno (Finland). “Whereas ‘Spiral Shadow’ was a warm album suggesting concepts of hope, ‘Ultraviolet’ is a bit colder and darker”, explains songwriter / guitar player Laura Pleasants. “All of our studio albums have their own unique identity and we've always been a band who strives for something different than what current fads suggest. With ‘Ultraviolet’, we took a step inward and wrote music that we felt we had to write; this album centers around the multiple themes of loss and you can feel it in the music. Everyone goes through it during their lifetime and this record reflects that experience”. 'Ultraviolet' was recorded at The Jam Room in Columbia, South Carolina with Kylesa's guitar player / songwriter and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (Baroness, Black Tusk) once again overseeing production. Kylesa will return to the road in May with more details forthcoming. They've done it again, Dartford's very own Trance Metal ensemble Silent Descent have released their third music video to date, their first ever music video was 'Duplicity' which was taken from the album of the same name, this was predominantly featuring the old line-up, as musicians come and gone it was prime time for the Kent mob to deliver another album, it was in the majestic form of 'Mind Games' that cemented the band as one of the most exciting modern metal bands to explode nationwide, released through the now defunct Rising Records, 'Mind Games' was to become a popular release in the metal community, one that landed them playing alongside Japanese cyber metal sensations Blood Stained Child and evidently the return to Download Festival. As the band's second music video coalesced into becoming 'Psychotic Euphoric' it was clear that they meant business, the sound had matured and the saddening departure of Kipster, the bands DJ and hard trance powerhouse, so what a fitting way to show that Silent Descent are expanding and clearly are 'Breaking The Space' https://www.facebook.com/silentdescent Ed: Looks like BDSM made an impact in the metal music world

Based in Limoges, France, Erlen Meyer create dark and ferocious musical landscapes, with vicious, throat-shredding vocals erupting over raging guitars - snarling with every discordant twist and turn – reminiscent of Will Haven’s legendary “El Diablo” or Vision of Disorder’s “Imprint”. Produced by Cult of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg in Stockholm, Sweden – it was only days before recording that the group was devastated with the untimely death of their drummer, Romain Djoudi, due to a tragic motorcycle accident. Erlen Meyer’s resulting savage debut encapsulates the events both in the music and album artwork - the raw and sobering emotion is unlike anything we have encountered, and together with the masterful production, Erlen Meyer’s debut has the potential to be one of the year’s most important heavy releases. Ahead of the album release, the band have made the track “Nuit” available to stream as a preview – which you can check out here. Erlen Meyer’s debut self-titled album is set for worldwide release through Shelsmusic on 20th May, 2013. The group have started booking UK / French dates in March with fellow label-mates Latitudes and Manatees. Artwork Credit: Fabian Sbarro Tracklisting 1. Gamla Stan 2. Nuit 3. Agatha 4.
