Icelandic black metal formation Auðn have revealed the cover artwork and details of their upcoming new album 'Vökudraumsins Fangi'. The band's third full length will be released on October 30th via Season of Mist.
The cover artwork of 'Vökudraumsins Fangi' was created by Mýrmann and can be viewed below, together with the track list.
"We are thrilled to announce our new album 'Vökudraumsins fangi' which will be released through Season Of Mist this autumn. After the release of Farvegir fyrndar we found ourselves wanting to expand our horizons and try new directions with our music. Adding a new member to the fold we entered uncharted territory for Auðn. We further explored themes we have wanted to chart for some time. More aggression, more melody and with the help of Jens Bogren we achieved soundscapes that echo the vast desolation that is Auðn today."
Returning with ‘Vökudraumsins fangi’, Auðn explore new soundscapes and push their music to new heights, thereby setting themselves further apart from their Icelandic contemporaries. The six piece draws inspirations from their natural surroundings, but also chart the territory of the mind. The album title literally translates to ‘prisoner of the daydream’, but rather refers to a perpetual state of delusion of a life that never took place.
Join Auðn while traversing the blurred lines between reality and the supernatural and the otherworldly sceneries of their native Iceland.
Norwegian Black / Death Metallers Brotthogg to release new album "The Die Is Cast" on August 1st; new song 'Nokturne' out now
Without further ado, Norwegian Black / Death Metallers Brotthogg announce their new album "The Die Is Cast". The album is the follow-up to last year album "Echoes Of The Past". "The Die Is Cast" will be released on August 1st.
With this second full-length album following their critically acclaimed debut Echoes of the Past (2019), Brotthogg presents a new hyper charged melodic blackened thrashing beast. The album is filled with high-speed staccato riffing, massive and intense harmonies, as well as slower parts with a gloomy, heavy atmosphere. The band has now released the first track of the new album, Nokturne, to give you an taste of what to come.
Check it out here:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLXAA1dyamo
"With our new album we continue to improve our witches' brew of everything we consider to be the best attributes of extreme metal. We aim to offer our listeners the duality of the melodic and the aggressive, the heroic and the chaotic, the moderate and the technical, all in one fine mixture. This is black metal influenced by melodic death metal, and strongly laced with elements of thrash, and I hope we have created an ambitious and intriguing release well worth exploring.”
Brotthogg deals in Melodic Black / Death / Thrash Metal that owes its allegiance to bands like Emperor, Old Man's Child, Symphony X and Dissection. The members are known from bands like Subliritum and Chton. The name Brotthogg is derived from an old forgotten Norwegian word in dialect meaning ”The one who has to take care of the job, the unpleasant one”
Brotthogg's album The Die is Cast is now available for pre-order on their Bandcamp page.
Dark metal institution Agathodaimon have officially signed a worldwide record deal with Napalm Records. Formed by Sathonys (guitar) and Matthias Rodig (drums) the German five-piece quickly evolved, performed at major European festivals and released six studio albums throughout their vast career.
Seven years after their highly praised full length In Darkness, Agathodaimon reunited in February 2020 and are currently working on new material! More to be announced soon!
Guitarist Sathonys states:
"We’re proud to announce that we have signed a deal with Napalm Records! As some of you know, Agathodaimon was put on hold for years. We've been working on a reunion for many months though, to get back in shape- and when we finally felt ready and announced the comeback in February, we were hoping to find a good partner soon, to release our next album. Yet, I didn't expect that we would be contacted by Napalm right away, a label that has developed in such an impressive way over the course of the last decades. Not only being able to sign lots of excellent bands, but who also managed to gather an impressive team of specialists over the course of time, all fully dedicated to and passionate about metal. So, here we are, and we couldn't be more excited to be part of their artist roster. We're absolutely looking forward to working with these guys!"
Napalm Records A&R Sebastian Muench adds:
"In 1998, Agathodaimon released Blacken The Angel an absolute masterpiece! As many, back in the good old days, I heard first about the band when I bought Metal Hammer Germany magazine and listened to the sampler CD that came with it. The song "Tristetea Vehementa" on the Off Road Tracks Vol. 10 Metal Hammer compilation made me fan for life. Agathodaimon was able to perfectly combine the best elements from Symphonic Metal, Gothic Metal and Black Metal. The song "Body of Clay" is arguably even one of the best Doom Metal songs. All five album releases followed that recipe and resulted in some very unique and timeless classic albums. We are super excited to work with Agathodaimon in the future!"

Sathonys - guitar and vocals

Namibian Heavy Metal veterans Arcana XXII to release 'A Return to the Darkland / The Spawn of Namiban Metal 1997 - 2002' next year
Everyone agrees, Arcana XXII was not just another metal band. They were musicians writing highly original material and performing in a country where the odds were firmly against this style of music.
This collection of songs stems from a time when almost no one in Africa gave a damn about heavy metal. They were the first songs of this genre ever to be released in a country like Namibia. They were, in fact, one of the very first metallic rumblings on the entire African continent. For the band there were no local musical footsteps to follow, no high end musical equipment to be had and certainly no industry to support the endeavour. This is unfiltered home-grown stuff, love it or hate it.
The songs on this compilation were recorded between 1997 and 2002 - the vast majority of them live and on analogue equipment. The story may be largely untold, but the music not entirely unheard. The fans in Namibia and South Africa eventually took notice, some European media took interest and the band had fun recording and performing these songs over a time of almost seven years. Today, metal bands in Africa are no longer novelties - the style has come to stay. But it had to start somewhere and Arcana XXII from the Namibian capital Windhoek were right there at the very beginning.
In collaborative effort over three continents, “Return to the Darkland“ was compiled by the band members themselves to showcase the legacy of a band that was truly one of the pioneers of heavy metal music on the African continent.
Namibia, on the southwestern coast of Africa, is one of the most sparsely populated places on earth. The desert state, which only gained independence from South Africa in 1990, can look back on an eventful history and was a German colony from 1884 to 1915 before it became a vassal state of its southern neighbour . All band members are born and bred Namibians and South Africans with a diverse European heritage.
Arcana XXII – “A Return to the Darkland / Untold” Digi-CD+DVD expected to released 25.02.2021. Digital Single “Sweet Immortal” over all channels out 23.10.2020.

Top-charting dark groove metal originators Devildriver recently announced the highly-anticipated release of their upcoming double album, Dealing With Demons. The first volume – entitled Dealing With Demons I – drops on October 9, 2020 via Napalm Records and marks the band’s first release of new, original material since 2016’s acclaimed Trust No One. Representing the onset of a final purging of the themes that have long possessed frontman Dez Fafara and Devildriver’s music, each track on Dealing With Demons I illustrates a different demon to be dealt with, or released.
Today, the band is following up on the release of their burgeoning latest single “Keep Away From Me” and its thought-provoking video with yet another unforgettable anthem – the menacing, mosh-ready second single "Iona". From the ominous siren at its start to its grooving verses, the track pulls no punches. The hair-raising, anthemic chorus line, “She carries a black rose…” beckons the listener again and again into a chilling ghost story! Travel the dark road into Iona's clutches via the heart-gripping music video, directed by Vicente Cordero, below.
Watch the chilling official music video for “Iona” HERE
Frontman Dez Fafara says about “Iona” and the demons that inspired the track:
"Iona is unlike any other Devildriver song we’ve put out. From the frantic verses to the haunting chorus, this song is another move forward to push our sound and the listener's ears into the fray! The chorus, “she carries a black rose, effigy from a story closed", tells the story of the long dead ghost of Iona and her obsession with death represented by the black roses in her hands – each one the soul of someone she’s taken from this life on a lonely dark road, assimilating their souls into black roses, which she carries for eternity.
This theme relates to myself and “Dealing With Demons” in that, often times, we as people have a hard time “letting go” of things. This can be applied to relationships, death, and so on. Iona carrying the black roses symbolizes her inability to move on – always seeking revenge. The past is exactly that – the past – it’s important to let go and not be stuck in a perpetual loop of living in it."
Evanescence release “The Game is Over” the second song to be taken from The Bitter Truth (RCA), their first album of new original music in nine years. The Bitter Truth will be released incrementally throughout 2020.
The iPhone-shot, neon-nightmare of a video for “The Game is Over” will go live Friday 3rd July at 12 pm ET / 5 pm UK during a live YouTube premiere featuring a fan Q&A with Amy Lee – link HERE.
A guitar-driven anthem, “The Game is Over” is a protest against the facades we are pressurized to put on by society. In the face of depression and anxiety - and especially in a world that seems to crumble further each day - it’s a cry to end the charade that everything’s fine.
The accompanying video is a nightmarish, effects-laden look at the emotional havoc that the current situation has wrought. Despite being restricted to shooting themselves on iPhones, the band, in collaboration with director P.R. Brown, managed to achieve a highly stylized production literalizing the metaphorical monsters within us. The video is astonishing proof of the creative spark of working with limited resources and a testament to the band’s commitment to its craft. Spotlighting the mental darkness behind the false smiles, it’s a disturbing, technicolour tribute to the light at the end of the tunnel - if you’re willing to face the terrors that line its walls.
Singer Amy Lee says of “The Game is Over” -
“This song is about being sick of the facade. The disguises we wear for others to make them feel comfortable, the inside feelings being so different than what we show on the outside to fit within the boundaries of what’s socially acceptable, or what’s not going to make you unpleasant or too ‘weird’ to be around.
‘The Game is Over’ is a promise to myself and out loud that I’m going to be more of my real, inner self on the outside--not lock her up because she can’t be contained any more. It’s also a prayer to become better, to not feel so messed up, locked up, and hurt inside.”
