Time to tune those axes and get ready to attack with blast beats: The 17th edition of the worldwide biggest hard and heavy band contest, Wacken Metal Metal, will once again provide an arena for aspiring musicians in 2020. As in previous years, 30 countries or regions will participate in the final round at the Wacken Open Air in 2020. In order to join the battle in Germany, bands have to apply and get invited to perform at their local Wacken Metal Battle competition first. The winners of their national finals will be given the chance to perform in Wacken. Sascha Jahn (head of project) comments:- "The Wacken Metal Battle has proved to be a most fertile ground for fresh talent in the hard music scene and unites young bands from all around the globe in an exciting and friendly competition each year. Even the high number of 30 slots for bands at the Wacken Open Air finals is not enough to allow each participating country and region to send contestants every year. Furthermore, we are proud to announce two new participants with Australia and Chile in 2020. This means that unfortunately some countries have to take a break either voluntarily or determined by lot. We congratulate all countries that have been drawn for the 17th edition and are looking forward to welcome those back in 2021 that are now on a hiatus." The 30 countries and regions participating in the Wacken Metal Battle 2020 are listed below in alphabetical order. Spanish heavy metallers Street Lethal have just signed a deal with Fighter Records for the release of their debut album "Welcome to the Row", which will see the light of day on December 5th 2019 on CD format. You can listen to "Tyrants", the first single advance, right here: https://youtu.be/Gur4aDtVn2w Street Lethal were born in Barcelona in 2014 and that same year they released their first EP entitled "Chainbreaker", a live recording entitled "Live From the Street" in 2015 (11 tracks including versions of RUNNING WILD, HOLOCAUST, X-BOLT MOTÖRHEAD and BLACK SABBATH) and a sophomore EP entitled "Look Out! And Stay in the Streets" in 2016, all of them independently while building a small name within the national heavy metal scene. In 2017, Street Lethal changed drummer and incorporated a second guitarist, completing the current line-up that recorded its debut full-length album entitled "Welcome to the Row", obtaining a record deal with Fighter Records for the worldwide promotion and distribution. Street Lethal plays a fresh and powerful heavy metal sound with catchy riffs, vibrant guitar solos, a great attitude and the amazing voice of Hell Rose Lethal, where they merge classic influences in the vein of JUDAS PRIEST, W.A.S.P., WARLOCK and IRON MAIDEN with modern sounds in the tradition SKULL FIST, STRIKER, CAULDRON or STALLION, something that will surely please any lover of good heavy metal. Lublin, Poland-based death metal destroyers Deivos present the band’s annihilating sixth studio full-length, "Casus Belli". The album is now confirmed for November release through their allies at Selfmadegod Records, who has posted the lead single, “Ataraxy.” With the drums recorded at Roslyn Studio in March 2019, the bass recorded at Kamil Home Studio in August 2019, the bulk of Deivos’ "Casus Belli" including guitars and vocals were handled at Zed Studio in Chechło Poland, as were several of the band’s prior albums. The record was also mixed and mastered at Zed Studio by Tomek Zalewski and completed with album art by Maciej Kamuda (Sleep, Coffins, Trauma, Pathology). Stream “Ataraxy,” the lead single from Deivos’ "Casus Belli", at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--ZezgYQ-ds Devotees to the brutal death metal of Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Decapitated, Yattering, and similar acts are highly advised to explore the torment of Deivos . Selfmadegod Records will release Deivos ’"Casus Belli" on CD, including a limited boxed edition, and digital formats on November 29th. Find physical pre-orders at the label webshop here https://tinyurl.com/deivoscasusbelli and watch for additional audio samples and more to be issued in the days ahead. Deivos originated in 1997, releasing their first demo, Praised By Generations, in 1999. In 2003, they released the Hostile Blood MCD through Butchery Music, the EP enthusiastically accepted by the underground death community. In 2004, the band started to write new material for their first record which was ultimately recorded in January and February 2006 at the famous Hertz Studio (Decapitated, Vader). The record, entitled Emanation From Below, was released in Poland by Empire Records in November 2006. Thanks to Metal Mind Productions, in January 2008 the record was subsequently released in Europe and then in the US in 2008. At the end of 2008 the band once again entered Hertz studio to record their second album Gospel Of Maggots, the album gaining the attention of Unique Leader Records who released it in February 2010. Following line-up changes, the band revisited Hertz Studio in February 2011 to record their third full-length effort, Demiurge Of The Void, which was also released by Unique Leader in September 2011. Following a four-year gap, Deivos signed with Selfmadegod Records for the release of their crushing Theodicy album in February 2015. The band’s Endemic Divine album followed through Selfmadegod in February 2017, and the band’s more rapid recording and releasing schedule now continues in 2019 with the November 2019 release of their sixth album, Casus Belli. João da Madeira 🇵🇹 The Canadian thrash quartet Hazzerd have unveiled a lyric video for “A Tormented Reality,” the first single from their forthcoming sophomore album (and M-Theory Audio) debut “Delirium.” Check out the clip – which was designed by Rafael Ortega of Ecliptic Visions, and which premiered yesterday via Metal Injection – at this location: https://youtu.be/440NQubX7WE “A Tormented Reality” – which received an exclusive audio premiere via Ross The Boss' Gimme Radio program on Tuesday – is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and other digital platforms. Says drummer/vocalist Dylan Westendorp, “We chose 'A Tormented Reality' as the first single off of 'Delirium' because we believe it showcases everything there is to find on this new record – the speed, melody, solos and lyrics. It’s a three-minute ripper with no break in the action. Lyrically, the song talks about an individual with physical restrictions due to a medical condition they cannot control, leaving them depressed and suicidal as they cannot live their life the way others can, trapped in a tormented reality.” Pre-orders for “Delirium,” which will be released on January 24, are available now. The album – which features cover artwork by Andrei Bouzikov (Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust) – was recorded earlier this year at Calgary's MCC Recording Studio and mixed and mastered by Johnny Gasparic (Into Eternity). All digital pre-orders include an “instant grat” download of “A Tormented Reality,” while CDs, cassettes and limited-edition coloured vinyl can be pre-ordered at this location: www.smarturl.it/hazzerd Hazzerd was initially formed by drummer/lead vocalist Dylan Westendorp and guitarist Brendan Malycky, two Calgary teens who were inspired by the early work of thrash legends such as Overkill, Metallica and Anthrax. The group self-released their debut EP, “Victimize The Innocent,” in 2014. The following year, the band recruited then-18-year-old lead guitarist Toryin Schadlich. In 2017, soon after solidifying the group's lineup with the addition of bassist David Sprague, Hazzerd recorded their full-length debut, “Misleading Evil,” which was released via Canada's World War Now Records. Featuring cover art by Bouzikov, the record was praised by Metal-Temple.com as “one of the strongest thrash releases of 2017,” while Dead Rhetoric called the album “an exhilarating aural ride” with a “Maiden/Priest-meets-early Metallica vibe.” In recent years, HAZZERD has performed alongside the likes of Striker, Vicious Rumors, Archspire, Spellcaster, and Grim Reaper in addition to playing noted Canadian festivals such as Loud As Hell and Armstrong MetalFest. Earlier this month, the group completed a successful string of shows north of the border with Hatchet. The group's next scheduled performance will take place at the Starlite Room in Edmonton, Alberta on Dec. 7. The song is from their upcoming album of the same name which will be released next week. Listen to the song here: https://thesludgelord.blogspot.com/2019/10/track-premiere-byzanthian-neckbeard.html?m=1 Back with another, fuller bag of riffs, Byzanthian Neckbeard have made good on the promise of their first two releases. The promise? To break headphones with tracks that soundtrack eerie tales of devil worms and other creatures of the night. After a spoken intro to send a chill through the bones, opening salvo “The Werespider” promptly sets said bones ablaze with heavy, thumping riffs and booming growls. This energy continues throughout the record, as the trio groove through such catchy numbers as “Evisceration Stare” and “Condemned to the Swamp”. Their formula of groovy-doom-meets-death-metal-intensity is as solid as the stone they carved it from, though they do deviate from it; for instance, dropping into almost bluesy realms on the title track, or taking an atmospheric approach on closer “Out of the Deep”. In the end, Minaton is a marvellous record and a step above everything that came before it. Byzanthian Neckbeard may be three miscreants from the foggy island of Guernsey, but they know their way around a bone-shattering song or seven. Lifeforce Records are very happy to welcome well established Greek Melodic Doom/ Death Metal outfit On Thorns I Lay to their roster. Their Lifeforce Records debut entitled "Threnos" (mixed and mastered by the mighty Dan Swanö) is set to be released in early 2020. On Thorns I Lay started as a death metal band, under the name of Paralysis in the early 90’s in Greece. Together with other cult bands such as Rotting Christ, Septic Flesh, Necromantia, Nightfall started to spread their name in the local and global underground scene. In 1993 they changed their name to Phlebotomy and released the EP “Dawn Of Grief”. The year after they recorded the “Voluptuous” demo which draw attention of Holy Records (Fr). In 1994, the band changed their name to On Thorns I Lay and released their first album which was closer to death/doom style. Through the years the band evolved their music to gothic metal. They have released 7 albums and have played in Greece and in Europe together with great bands such as Dream Theater, In Flames, Anathema, Amorphis, Katatonia, Tiamat, The Gathering, Satyricon, Septicflesh and many more. MetalBite has premiered the official video for "Once Upon A Time In Russia" from prolific Russian Metal band Second To Sun. The song is taken from the band's forthcoming album Legacy. Check it out below. "Once Upon A Time In Russia" (official video) metalbite.com/news/11842/mb-premiere-and-review-second-to-sun-once-upon-a-time-in-russia Second To Sun will release new album Legacy on November 7! Consistent with previous albums, the group will also release an instrumental version of the album on November 16. Second To Sun mastermind Vladimir Lentinen had this to say about the forthcoming album: "I'm proud to present you our new album named Legacy, which is even more aggressive and heavier than previous one, but still retains the melodic, hypnotic and cinematic qualities of its predecessor. Legacy is logically divided into three ideological arches: one dedicated to social solitude; an occult part, which is closely intertwined with actual historical events, and a traditional part of our music, which is based on culture of the Finno-Ugric people. We see it as a trilogy unified by a sole idea, which was earlier dubbed as social-decay black metal. All tracks are undoubtedly our legacy, which is the foundation of our album's name. Brilliant artwork for both versions of the release, created by Denis 'Forkas' Kostromitin, who also worked with such bands like Behemoth and Children of Bodom. We live in incredible times, when a band like our can exist without support from the psychopathic musical industry and shortlived trends. Our music simply exists because there are people, who listen to it. Thank you for your attention and support." The most important musical inspiration source of the band is Scandinavian black metal along with creations of groove metal bands Pantera and Fear Factory. Their songs are performed in Russian language or in instrumental versions, and the main lyrical themes for the songs are mystic, mythology and social decay. The basic work unit for the band is still releasing new music, one new song almost every month. Progressive metal band The World Without Us are streaming their new album Incarnate over at Alternative Control. The album is set to be released tomorrow. Listen to the album in full here: http://www.alternativecontrolct.com/music/exclusive-stream-incarnate-by-the-world-without-us/#.XbHw1OhKjIV The World Without Us came into existence through the union of two old friends. After months of trials and tribulation, Chris Fenimore (Lead Guitar) and Mario Canavarro (Vocals) managed to piece together a line-up with guitarist James Sundwall, bassist Peter Baliira, and drummer Steve Campbell. With that, the band was off to the races. Since their first show in May of 2018 the band has accomplished a shocking amount in a relatively short time. The group has shared the stage with everyone, from local heavy hitters If Not For Me and Burial in the Sky to big names, including Metal legend Soulfly. This West Chester, Pennsylvania five piece is based around the music store which employed multiple members, Taylor’s Music, a local institution for underground musicians. This has allowed their unique prog inspired sound to flourish as the members personal interactions inform long term growth. It has also instantly embedded them deeply into their local scene. This has paid off in getting them a chance to record with TribeSound Records and granted them opportunities to bring their thrilling live act to stages around the region. Embracing their status as newcomers and approaching the scene with genuine and deep enthusiasm, The World Without Us is a veritable breath of fresh air for the heavy music community. Bringing in a deep variety of influences and placing a focus on giving back to the scene which they love, the band has quickly grown into a force to be reckoned with. Over the top and undeniably insane, these Southeast Pennsylvanian musicians have the world at their feet as they gaze, salivating into their starry future. https://www.facebook.com/theworldwithoutus/ Italian Tech Death quintet Mechanical God Creation premiere "I Am The Godless Man" music video24/10/2019 Mechanical God Creation release new music video for "I Am The Godless Man", taken from their latest album "The New Chapter", which was released in March 2019.
