BAND FACT: Lumbar is the bottom half of the spine, just above the pelvis and also relates to the abdominal region "The First And Last Days Of Unwelcome", the debut LP from Lumbar -- founded by Aaron Edge (Lamthethorn, Roareth, Rote Hexe, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth), who is joined by Mike Scheidt (YOB, VHÖL) and Tad Doyle (Tad, Brothers Of The Sonic Cloth) -- is just over a month from release. The brainchild of Aaron Edge, Lumbar came together earlier this year when he was unexpectedly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. What would be his final musical endeavor before waves of rapidly-spreading pain engulfed him and extended hospital stays became more than frequent, is now his most imperative. On Lumbar's debut album, "The First And Last Days Of Unwelcome", Edge is joined by Mike Scheidt and Tad Doyle, who helped bring this intense and important project to fruition. The musical result is as diverse and destructive as one may expect from such a lineup, with the varied influence from this trio of musicians coalescing into seven organic and tonally oppressive movements. Ethereal ghostly passages and spacious expanses of minimalistic disharmony cone to an end in sonic obliteration through mesmerizing and pulverizing, as an array of distinct vocal mantras echo from the heart of it all. Today, Svart Records announces November 29th as the international release date for Kuolemanlaakso's "Musta Aurinko Nousee" EP. This forthcoming EP includes three new Kuolemanlaakso songs, and a captivating cover version of Juice Leskinen’s classic by the same name. The EP will be released as a limited digipak CD and a strictly limited 12” vinyl with three different colors (100 copies per color). Santura, can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/svart-records/kuolemanlaakso-musta-aurinko In 2012, the Finnish Doom / Death scene saw newcomer Kuolemanlaakso ascend directly to the ranks of its elite with the critically acclaimed Svart debut "Uljas uusi maailma", which reached #42 on the Official Finnish Album Chart and #6 on the Rumba Chart. In support of "Uljas uusi maailma", Kuolemanlaakso toured its native country, hitting some of Finland’s biggest and most respected clubs, then adding a performance at the 2013 Tuska Open Air Festival. Feeding off of this momentum, Kuolemanlaakso planned new material on the road and entered a secret, secluded location in the forests of Finland, once again with acclaimed producer / engineer / guitarist V. Santura (Woodshed Studios, Dark Fortress, Celtic Frost, Triptykon). In the course of writing and recording, it was soon made obvious that Kuolemanlaakso had not only enough material for a full-length album, but for an EP, as well. "Our goal was to create the tightest and most balanced entities for both releases. The EP introduces our current style in a more straightforward and shorter form, whereas the full-length evolved into something more epic," states guitarist / keyboardist and main songwriter Laakso. "The EP tracks are quite different from one other, with each song displaying a different side of the band and what we are capable of."

From the harrowing doom of their 1990 debut "Lost Paradise", to 1991’s genre-defining Gothic, to 1995’s break-out masterpiece "Draconian Times", to 1997’s electronically-tinged "One Second", to 2007’s return to a heavier form "In Requiem", to last year’s opus "Tragic Idol", Paradise Lost has continued to evolve since their inception in 1988, inspiring countless artists throughout the years. To celebrate their influence on the scene, a special compilation will be released this fall to commemorate the band’s 25th anniversary landmark.

In 2010, the organizers of Holland's highly acclaimed Roadburn Festival invited Tom Gabriel Warrior, founder of Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Triptykon, to act as the curator at that year's festival. Under the banner of 'Only Death Is Real', Roadburn 2010 thus became the venue for the presentation of Triptykon's newly-released debut album, "Eparistera Daimones", as well as Triptykon's first official life appearance.
Triptykon admit that they: "felt very honored by the confidence Roadburn placed in us, and the event will forever rank as one of the most significant experiences in the existence of Triptykon. We are therefore deeply delighted and proud to be able to announce that Triptykon has been asked to return to Roadburn in 2014". To commemorate the release of Triptykon's long-awaited new album in spring 2014, Triptykon will appear on Roadburn's main stage at the 013 venue, on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Inspired by classic cult British Film Institutions such as Amicus and Hammer House of Horror, 'Tower of Silence' was shot on location during the British Winter of 2012 at Gunnersbury Park Tower, London. It features a guest appearance from Purson's Rosalie Cunningham, who places a symbolic black orchid on the tombstone of each member in the clips closing scenes. Directed by UK based Paraffin City Productions, Tower of Silence will be the last full production promo video ever made by this British Doom Metal institution and is taken from their final album, "The Last Spire", out 29th April on Rise Above Records. 
Kylesa premiere “Quicksand,” a new song from their forthcoming album "Ultraviolet", (due to be released 28th May via Season of Mist), via Spin (http://www.spin.com/articles/kylesa-quicksand-ultraviolet-stream).
"'Quicksand' is a quick 2:35 of ghostly dreamdoom that joins the melodies of '90s shoegaze with the churn of modern sludge and a riff straight from the Billy Corgan playbook,” says Spin in a brief write-up accompanying the song stream, adding that the song is “a muscular swirl that should please anyone who thought m b v didn't have enough shouting.” The band has also unveiled the cover art for "Ultraviolet", which was done by Sean Beaudry. The fourth edition of the festival takes place over two days, September 28th and 29th, at The Pint in Dublin. Also included on the bill are the likes of Urfaust, Tome, Weed Priest, The Veil, Weeping Ulcer and more. Hour Of 13 guitarist Chad Davis comments: "Hour of 13 are pleased to be a part of the 2012 instalment of Dublin Doom Days. A little over 2 years to the date, it will be great to play our second-only European appearance in the birthplace of our first ever live show. The people in the Irish scene are extremely amazing, and we would like nothing more than to bring our music back to them for round two." Serpentine Path is gearing up to unleash their suffocating debut full length on September 11th via Relapse Records. The band, featuring all three members of NY underground icons Unearthly Trance as well Tim Bagshaw of UK stoners Electric Wizard and Ramesses, has unleashed their first track from the new album, called "Crotalus Horridus Horridus" on Pitchfork!
Now available from Relapse's online shop, Serpentine Path's self-titled debut is available in CD, vinyl and digital formats. The vinyl comes in two version, 180 gram black and a limited edition snot green vinyl. All versions can be pre-ordered here. 
English Doom merchants Conan are nearing the July 31st release date for their North American debut, "Monnos" via Gravedancer Records. The monstrous record has already been praised by Pitchfork for finding "the perfect guitar tone" and now the entire new album is available for streaming via AOL Noisecreep here.
Conan are currently plotting their first strike on North American soil and are planning to venture across the pond later this year. For now, fans can sink their teeth into 'Monnos' in a variety of formats. The CD and digital versions of the album will be available on July 31st, while a beautiful imported gatefold vinyl is available for pre-order at the Gravedancer Records webstore.
