Hyperia are known for their wailing vocals, shredding guitars and fast, heavy music. Formed by Colin and Marlee Ryley in September 2018, they found 3 members from the metal community and hit the ground running. With the recent release of their debut EP Fish Creep Frenzy, Hyperia have been thrashing their thing at venues and taking the metal community by storm.
Colin and Marlee Ryley are former members of short lived folk metal band Loremaster and long lived melodic death metal band Skymir. Jordan Maguire is a past member of black/death metal band Pecado while David Kupisz and Scott DeGruyter are both long time members of the local music scene. With no signs of slowing down, Hyperia are in full force as they continue to write music, play shows and initiate bang-overs. Delivering a high energy show and entertaining performance, Hyperia create an experience you won’t want to miss.
Their debut album Insanitorium is set for release later in 2019 via Sliptrick Records and it will feature 10 songs of hard hitting melodic thrash metal madness.

Zero Fire is a band whose music strives to combine hard hitting riffs with soaring vocal melodies, all wrapped up in a package where feel, groove and flow is paramount. Born from a collaboration between singer/guitarist Graham King and drummer Erik Thorkildsen, this band conjures up a hard rock sound reminiscent of the 90s and 2000s, yet still has a style all its own.
After sharing the stage with bands like Silent Planet, Hail the Sun and Mandroid Echostar, Zero Fire's new release, Second Sun, shows them expanding and evolving. With riffs to make you bang your head and melodies that won't leave your brain, the band hopes this is an EP that makes you say "Damn, I want to listen to that again" right after it's finished.
After releasing their debut album "Erosion" in 2017 and writing the video game soundtrack of NavyBlue and the Spectrum Killers in 2018, Cydemind is back with a new single and music video called "Winter". The song is an arrangement of one of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Season violin concertos.

As the Montreal-based quintet is led by classical violinist Olivier Allard, it was natural for the band to showcase its classical sound in this music video as Oliver explains:-
"It’s always been in Cydemind’s side-projects to make metal covers of classical music pieces. What better way to start than with one of my favourite violin concertos by Vivaldi!"
Co-directors Vincent Allard and Juliette Guerin hopped in the project without hesitation:
"Vivaldi’s Winter violin concerto is already such a cinematic piece with lots of contrast. It was a great challenge to find landscapes that could match both our view of Quebec’s winter while maintaining Cydemind’s highly energetic approach to the piece."
The video was shot in various locations in Quebec, Canada. Scheduled to be filmed in March 2018, the project was postponed to February 2019 due to bad weather. Guitarist Kevin Paquet adds:-
"As much as we had no luck last year, karma was on our side this year. The weather was fabulous, I think it definitely highlights the splendour of our Canadian winters."
“Winter” was recorded at The Grid studio in collaboration with producer Christian Donaldson (The Agonist, Cryptopsy, Beyond Creation). The artwork was created by Cydemind’s own drummer Alexandre Dagenais.

In a world where so much music is bland and generic, Cydemind is a breath of fresh air! Mixing progressive rock, jazz, classical, and progressive metal, Montreal-based Cydemind is a special and unique band, one we’ll be hearing a lot more from in the future. Influenced by such bands as Dream Theater. Symphony X. Haken, Neal Morse Band, and jazzmen like Avishai Cohen and Tigran Hamasyan, violinist Olivier Allard describes their sound as “violin meets instrumental prog metal!”.
Prolific artists, Cydemind released its first EP ‘Through Mists and Ages’ back in 2014 and soon after its single ‘What Remains’. After a few years of writing and refining their sound, the quintet (violin, bass, piano, guitar, drums) came back with their first full-length album. Entitled ‘Erosion’, its six tracks are centred around the theme of nature and its persistence through time. Epic is the word here, with one track clocking in at an impressive 27 minutes. ‘Erosion’ was released independently on Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and all major online retailers.
Cydemind then branched off a bit from the usual metal band musical path to produce the music for the indie video game ‘Navyblue and the Spectrum Killers’. The game released in September 2018 and is available on Steam. In addition to writing the whole soundtrack for the game, Cydemind also released two singles ‘Navyblue’ and ‘Lights of Iberia’ as bonus content for the game.
To further expand their musical soundscape and reach new audiences, the versatile band released its first music video ‘Winter’ in March 2019. The single is an arrangement of Vivaldi’s ‘Winter violin concerto’ from the Four Seasons. Shot in various locations in Quebec, Canada, the video highlights both the majestic Canadian winter and the highly energetic performance of the band.
In addition to their recording experiences, the band has performed many times in the Montreal area since 2011 in venues like Foufounes Électriques, Katacombes, Theatre Plaza and more. They recently created the first edition of Proggy Nights in Canada, a small tour that reunited 3 Canadian prog bands in Québec City, Montreal and Toronto.
Aside from their performance expertise, Olivier (violin) and Camille (piano) have also been teaching their instrument for many years. Olivier is a doctorate student in violin performance at University of Montreal, while Camille graduated from the classical piano program at CEGEP St-Laurent in Montreal.
Based in Vancouver BC, this sonically diverse act is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Dan Potter. Using heavy barrages of thrashing poly-rhythmic riffage to whip up intensity levels, DYFN descends into abstracted darkness and finds a sonic blueprint that’s filled with endless possibilities. Guitars are driven to their most extreme by incorporating experimental approaches in technique and composition serving as a perfect backdrop to the deep, chaotic experiences brought forth lyrically as dark riddles are wretched out with harrowing screams.
The debut LP by Dark Years from Now was conceived to be a unique listening journey. Whether it’s the pulsating industrial metal edged aesthetic or the cathartic layers of electronic instrumentation, each track offers a world of intriguing sound and substance. Unafraid to take a non-linear approach, many of the songs are forged with abstract intent even using the words as yet another aural paintbrush, obscuring to reveal. Four of the eleven tracks are instrumental in nature providing more time for listeners in the churning abyss of variable perception.
Dark Years from Now will release its self-titled debut on March 8, 2019.
Canadian speed metallers Chainbreaker stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Lethal Desire, at heavily trafficked web-portal CVLTNation.com. Chainbreaker formed sometime in the frigid depths of 2013. The band began as a three-piece in Al Chambers' garage, with Al taking care of vocal duties and drums, Ian Chains on guitar, and band friend Craig Rose on bass. Initially, the band was just an excuse to cope with winter by get hammered and playing Razor songs. Eventually, a solid line-up came together (Rob Ouellette on vocals, Curtis Faux on bass) and the Constant Graving demo tape was released in early 2014 to coincide with the band's debut gig at the now-defunct Izakaya Sushi Bar. A handful of shows were played in Eastern Canada in support of the tape, as well as a brief US tour with now-labelmates BAT in the summer.
The following year, three songs were recorded for the Enslave Your Masters 7” single that has yet to be released, but has since been made available online. In the spring of 2017, the debut full-length Lethal Desire was recorded at Lincoln County Social Club (Cauldron's main recording haunt) in Toronto, and was mixed and mastered by Toxic Holocaust frontman Joel Grind. It's also the first Chainbreaker recording to feature new bassist Phil Zeller (Rammer/Toxic Holocaust) and will be the first release for the band on Hells Headbangers.
For a band featuring current and former members of Cauldron, Toxic Holocaust, and Rammer, it's not surprising that Chainbreaker suitably specialize in lean 'n' mean speed metal that pays respects to their '80s Canadian forebears like Razor, Sacrifice, Piledriver, and Slaughter whilst honourably adding to that classic canon. All that was crude 'n' rude about said canon - the locomotive rush, the raw-blooded intensity, the emphasis on simple yet exclamatory hooks - is dragged kicking and screaming into the present, under the oh-so-fitting title of Lethal Desire. Poisonous yet endlessly fun, the album unleashes one mini-anthem after another, each one more rivet-headed than the last, but always in service of the eternal glory of heavy metal. And a dozen of those mini-anthems fly by in a compact 35 minutes, making Lethal Desire the perfect soundtrack to beer-drinking and hell-raising.

Canadian metallers All Else Fails are ready to release their new album ‘The False Sanctuary’, coming 2 years after the last critically-acclaimed full length ‘The Forever Lie’. Keeping with their tradition of crushingly heavy and progressive metal they have composed 2 new songs for this album and included 5 B-sides from ‘The Forever Lie’, which were never released digitally.
To accentuate this album they have also released a music video for the first single ‘A Dream of Names’. Technical guitar parts are juxtaposition against melodic vocals in the band’s 10th music video, a moody visual for the thought provoking lyrics that address the current state of the world.
“In a lot of ways this album is at a state of the union address. It's been 2 years since the release of The Forever Lie, and already the themes of financial corruption, abuse of religious power, and political scandal seem tame. Joining the ranks at Sliptrick Records this week is the Canadian Alternative Metal | Progressive Rock group Doan.
Doan is a progressive alternative metal band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Formed of Diane Thibault at vocals, Olivier Roy on the drums, André Labrecque on bass and Nicholas Roy on guitar, they first established in 2011 as a cover band bearing the name Ghettoblaster. They changed their name in 2017 to dedicate themselves more seriously to their own compositions. Heavy and incisive to sweet and melodious, the band’s music is the result of a collaborative effort influenced by the music of bands like Tool, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, A Perfect Circle, Deftones, Godsmack and many others.
To the question “What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?” They respond: “We want them to remember the emotions it brings to them, that’s what music is all about, isn’t it?”
With their first album Stupidity Kills due out via Sliptrick Records in 2019, Doan are ready to rock the stage and look forward to spreading their words and music across the globe.

Canada-based mantra doom act Zaum has signed a multi-album deal with Listenable Records.
Zaum is a passage toward the dark realizations of the old world; a monolithic, doomy mantra-based meditative experience forged by bass and drums interwoven with sitar, woodwind, string, and synth textures. Based in New Brunswick, observers experience a tranquil resonance whereby the astral and physical planes can coexist and be understood from a natural perspective.
Zaums most recent full-length musical chapter, Eidolon, was released in October of 2016 via I Hate Records. In their few years as an active, touring band Zaum has performed over two-hundred shows including support stints for Voivod, Cauldron, Mars Red Sky, and Bison as well as showcases at Roadburn, Haywire Festival, and Incubate.
Zaum is currently composing new material for their next full-length, slated for a spring 2019 release via Listenable.
