Greek Black Metallers Synteleia stream Hells Headbangers debut at "Decibel" magazine's website28/8/2019 Greek black metal classicists Synteleia stream the entirety of their striking debut album, Ending of the Unknown Path, at Decibel magazine's website. Set for international release on August 30th via Hells Headbangers, hear Synteleia's Ending of the Unknown Path in its entirety exclusively HERE. Although a relatively new band, Synteleia breathe the breath of the ancients and maintain an authentically classic Hellenic black metal style. Naturally, the influence of the Greek "Big Three" (Rotting Christ, Varathron, Necromantia) looms large, but also within the Synteleia sound can one detect traces of early Septic Flesh, Thou Art Lord, and Nightfall. Above all, despite being grounded in the early '90s, Synteleia exhibit a vital fire and freshness of approach which makes Ending of the Unknown Path truly timeless. Synteleia was founded in 2015 by guitarist Drakon Hesperion and vocalist Nyctelios. Being devoted followers of the Greek black metal scene for more than 20 years, they started composing original stuff, heavily influenced by the pioneers of the scene - Rotting Christ, Varathron, Horrified, Necromantia, Thou Art Lord, and more. With the addition of Septis (bass/keys) and the assistance of Amdusias and Oort (also members of the Greek death metal band Plague), in June 2016, Synteleia entered the studio to record their first demo, Astral Blasphemies. In January 2017, the band made its debut appearance at the Extreme Assault II Festival at Modu club, Athens. In the summer of 2017, followed by a change in line-up, Cronios joined the band as the lead guitarist, and with the assistance of Nick "Yngve" on drums, the band started rehearsing for the Under the Pagan Moon Fest, taking place at Gagarin club, Athens, on November 4th, 2017, together with Kawir and Horn. The recordings for the debut album, Ending of the Unknown Path, started in December 2017 and went until late summer 2018. During the recordings, Synteleia appeared at the Horns Up III Festival at Trikala and Black Death Holocaust Night at Remedy club, Athens. The band’s latest live performance has been at the Lords of the Void Festival at Temple club, Athens, on October 26th, 2018, with Varathron and Disharmony. A statement from the band reads: "Synteleia are proud to announce Hells Headbangers Records to be our rightful partner, regarding the release of our debut album. We feel obligated to stay true to our ideals and beliefs, and cooperating with a genuine underground label that fully understands and supports our old-school Hellenic black metal aesthetics, taste, and philosophy feels the best way to repay all those who have entrusted us with their support and confidence. We are honoured to be a member of HHR's unholy legions." Indeed, old-school Hellenic black metal aesthetics are alive and well with Synteleia as they take you to the Ending of the Unknown Path! The full path is laid before you exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine. Spawned from the sick brain cells of several past and current members of other deadly Hellenic entities (Ectoplasma, Resurgency et. al.) back in 2013, Vultur have been exhibiting an unquenchable thirst for sanguine death metal fluids ever since, revealed in all its putrid and vicious glory both in their Vulture's Beak demo (2016) and their Entangled in the Webs of Fear debut album (2018). Theirs is a timeless ilk of bludgeoning death metal that's stuffed with assorted tempos that go from relentless eruptions of savagery to torturous and doomed-out passages replete with morbid harmonies and through mid-paced onslaughts of sheer heaviness, influenced by the likes of Morbid Angel, Gorguts, Monstrosity, Immolation, Brutality, Suffocation, Morpheus Descends, and Incantation. Salaciously titled Drowned in Gangrenous Blood, Vultur's sophomore strike sees them sticking to that crushing course - and indeed drowning the hapless listener in gangrenous blood! No compromise, no quarter, no progression: Drowned in Gangrenous Blood is 100% undiluted DEATH METAL spawned from the most righteous of eras, the very beginning of the '90s. Even down to its bassy, shit-thick production - courtesy of Haris Vougiantzis, of Embrace Of Thorns fame, who also handles the mixing & mastering here - Vultur's second album reeks of totally thorough authenticity. Its songwriting is creepy, lurking, and most definitely SICK, spewed by diseased minds who LIVE FOR THIS. And it's also further proof that Greece's death metal underground is criminally unsung, but soon shall devour unbelievers... And what better way to garnish utter sickness than the literally viscous cover art courtesy of Gargoylekelly? Vultur have wasted no time in eclipsing their cult debut album - drink up! Take the first sip with the new track "Groans of Excruciating Terror" HERE at Memento Mori's official YouTube channel. www.facebook.com/vulturathens www.memento-mori.es www.facebook.com/memento.mori.label Greece's Lightfold sign with Alpha Omega Management; new lyric video "Battle" out September 10th16/8/2019 Alphs Omega Management is pleased to announce the signing of the prog/power metal band Lightfold from Athens, Greece. Repulsive Echo Records will be handling the vinyl LP version, which will follow later in the year. Hailing from Greece, the band was initiated by Giannis Grim (Carnal Dread, Humanity Zero, Death Trap, Vultur) and George Wolf (Forced In, Dismal Chant, Vultur) when Carnal Dread and Forced In shared the bill at a local show back in the grip of winter of 2012. Both musicians being real zealots of what death metal was known for back in the late '80s and the early '90s - in other words, no tech wankery and no crystal-clear production - they rapidly entered the studio just to start jamming, and ultimately gave birth to Ectoplasma. Shortly after, the Everlasting Deathreign demo was discharged upon mankind, granting the band some following among diehard fans of unpolished death metal. On subsequent releases (the Spitting Coffins debut album and the split tape with Hatevomit), the band kept on perfecting their craft and obtaining more adherents of their underground creed, reaching a more mature sound by the time the Skeletal Lifeforms EP was released in late 2016 (tape format) / early 2017 (CD format), in which Ectoplasma shamelessly manifested their devotion to muddy, organic, disgusting, bone-breaking, and rotten-to-the-core DEATH METAL influenced by the early offerings of bands such as Autopsy, Baphomet, Asphyx, Morta Skuld, Grave, Demigod, Gutted, Death, and Judecca, only with their own personal twist.
With the addition of Dion K. Alastor (Vultur) on guitars and Giannis Botsis (Embrace of Thorns, Thou Art Lord) on drums, it was with 2017's Cavern of Foul Unbeings - released to international acclaim by Memento Mori, the band's current label home - that Ectoplasma kicked their crusade against inane, overproduced "death metal" into overdrive. Reeking of the same characteristic grime and decrepitude of that album, the band's third, absolutely gutsfucking full-length, White-Eyed Trance, sees Ectoplasma entering concept-album territory. Say what?! Rest easy, diehards: the same punishing 'n' pustulent, proudly DEATH METAL sound is presented and accounted for here, only that the "concept" is a lyrical theme threaded through their now-signature world-eating sound. Just as aptly titled as its predecessor, White-Eyed Trance is an unabashed statement of classic death metal songwriting, hearkening back to a time ("long, long ago"!) when bands wrote actual SONGS rather than tossing a bunch of haphazard riffs into a blender and seeing what came out. As such, Ectoplasma patiently build their towers of lurching dread and lace them with well-timed bouts of blasting, but always in the service of the song. If anything, their crunch 'n' crush is a bit clearer now, thanks in no small part to powerful mixing & mastering by Robbert Kok (of Disavowed fame). Finished off by awesomely retro, luridly coloured cover art by the masterful Mörtuus and a well-chosen cover of Devastation's "Souls of Sacrifice," White-Eyed Trance is yet another timely reminder from Ectoplasma that the past is alive - and it's more horrific than ever! The follow up to their highly acclaimed 2016 album, 'Division Of Blood' will be released on August 9th, 2019 via NoiseArt Records. The band has unleashed the first album trailer of the upcoming record. Check it out here:- https://youtu.be/vo3NwPxwljc The lyric-video of the first digital single "Born Of Hate" can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk4Rtzlgl2c The band states:- “The time has come, the battle has begun! Put on your bullet belts and join us in the madness of The Years Of Aggression!” Pre-order the album here: www.yearsofaggression.noiseart.eu The stunning cover artwork was created by acclaimed artist Ed Repka (MEGADETH, DEATH, MUNICIPAL WASTE). Founding member, guitarist and singer Nick Melissourgos has prepared the songs, which were subsequently recorded in the Zero Gravity Studios in Athens, Greece, and, in case of the drums, in the Soundlodge Studios in Papenburg, Germany. The album was produced by the band itself, which has for the first time in years a consistent line-up – making them stronger than ever before. Nine songs, driven by irrepressible rage, were finally mixed by Jens Bogren at the Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden, and mastered by Tony Lindgren. Set for international release on June 15th via Nuclear War Now! Productions on vinyl LP format, hear Aima's Tragos in its entirety exclusively HERE. Although it was established in Athens, Greece in 2011, Aima has to this point not garnered a level of attention that is commensurate with the quality of its music. This is almost certainly due to the fact that its recorded output to date has been somewhat sparse, and that it has opted not to play live shows. Additionally, its members have been simultaneously involved in other cults of similarly irreverent purposes, such as Wargoat and Goat Synagogue, whose endeavours have also occupied their attention. With the release of Tragos (“Goat”), however, Aima is poised to make its formidable presence known on a much wider scale. The Greek moniker Αιμα, or “blood,” appropriately distils the band’s essence into the basic element of life and death. Similarly, and in a practice continued with this album, each of Aima’s previous solo releases, including its 2012 self-titled demo and ensuing 7” EP from 2014, σάρκα (“flesh”), has been branded unassumingly, allowing instead for the recording itself to deliver its potent message in greater splendour. Since the beginning, and continuing through the aforementioned releases and the more recent 2017 split with Supremative, the goal has been to continue the tradition of black metal first espoused by pioneers like Sarcófago, Beherit, and Blasphemy. Like these bands, Aima has infused a healthy dose of death metal influence into its craft, resulting in a sound that is not unlike that of its fellow Greek contemporaries and long-time NWN! stalwarts Embrace of Thorns. This parallel is also exemplified by the fact that the σάρκα EP was released on Archfiend Devilpig’s own Kill Yourself Productions, which serves as a testament to their mutual admiration. By Aima’s own admission, Tragos accentuates the death metal element even more so than previous releases. This shift was not made by conscious decision, but instead represents a natural progression in the band’s style. All eight tracks on the album were written in 2017 and 2018, subsequent to the release of the split with Supremative, which lends the recording a notable cohesion in its devastating, monolithic effect. Finally, credit is due to sound engineer Sotiris Laskaris, who was responsible for the production, mixing, and mastering that perfectly enhances this voluminous recording, a feat even more impressive considering it was captured in the band’s rehearsal room. With Tragos, Aima has clearly established itself as a worthy present-day torch-bearer in the tradition of the most blasphemous of dark arts. The album is set for international release on May 31st via Hells Headbangers for the CD format; the vinyl LP version will follow later this year. Featuring members from Hellenic scene legends Varathron, Funeral Storm deliver truly ancient - and truly authentic - Greek black metal in the most classic early '90s style, full of mysticism and might. Hear Funeral Storm's Arcane Mysteries in its entirety exclusively HERE. Funeral Storm was formed in 2001 by Wampyrion Markhor Necrowolf under the name Raven Throne as a one-man-project. The name was later changed for legal reasons, and after several changes, the moniker Funeral Storm was chosen. Lyrical themes were set early on, and are heavily inspired by occultism, legends, myths, evil, mysteries, horror, and the Cthulhu mythos. After several line-up changes and one live show, Wampyrion decided to stop any activities concerning the band until 2012, where he released a digital split with Mortuus Sum and a six-way split on tape format with Human Serpent, Thaer Os Valael, Opus Magorum, Silent Dominion, and Varg Order a year later under his label Abyssic Black Cult Records. Funeral Storm were active again with the addition of members of Serpent Path. In 2016, Mercyful Hell Productions released a compilation with songs that cover most of the years of Funeral Storm that were never actually released. In the meantime, Wampyrion decided to change the sound of the band, now fully inspired by '90s Greek black metal. Nick Christogiannis of Deviser and Necroabyssious of Varathron/Katavasia/Zaratus then joined as fulltime members. With this line-up, Funeral Storm released a split in early 2017 with Celestial Rite entitled Funeral Rite with Eskarth of Agatus performing acoustic guitars and a solo on the song "Martyr Of The Lake." Reaping international acclaim, Funeral Rite was released on 12" vinyl and CD formats by Iron Bonehead, while Mercyful Hell released the tape format. Since signing with Hells Headbangers, Funeral Storm added Arcania (Aherusia) on guitars while Christogiannis departed, and the band promptly set to work on their first full-length record. Ever aptly titled Arcane Mysteries, the album proudly and poignantly delivers 43 minutes of atmospheric tartaric black metal in the vein of the old Hellenic scene, inspired by sorcery, magic, and myths. Indeed, Funeral Storm are ancient souls, eschewing the nowadays trends of dissonant non-songwriting and cavernous obfuscation in favour of traditionally epic and dynamic songcraft, reverent to the old Hellenic gods whilst forging terrain all their own, all wrapped in a robust production that powerfully captures the trio's overt physicality - and indeed, THAT classic pulse. Arcane Mysteries is truly a record that brims with a timeless atmosphere - truly, one of arcane mysteries - and safely avoids lazy "throwback status" due to the inclusion of scene veteran Necroabyssious on vocals and the era-authentic, ever-mystical synths, handled by both Wampyrion and Arcania. In short, it's an album more than worthy of the legendary early '90s wave of Greek black metal. To further underline those classic ties, Arcane Mysteries features two special guests: Eskarth of fellow Hells Headbangers labelmates Agatus performed the solo and acoustic guitars on "Martyr of the Lake," and The Magus of Necromantia / Prinicipality Of Hell composed, recorded, mixed, and mastered "Wandering Through The Abyss." Completed by awe-inspiring cover artwork courtesy of Markus Vesper (Denial of God, Manilla Road, Attic), Funeral Storm triumphantly prove that the past is alive...in fact, more than ever! Delve fully into the past in the present exclusively HERE, courtesy of Decibel, North America's only monthly metal magazine. Pre-order info can be found HERE at Hells Headbangers' Bandcamp. Tristengrav hail from Patras, Greece and released their first demo, Incendiarism of Nous, in 2018. Now, roughly a year later comes Nychavge, a four-track (plus one outro) recording featuring their unique blend of black metal with gothic rock. Imagine GISM crossed with Rozz Williams-era Christian Death or later Anti-Cimex covering Mighty Sphincter and you have some glimpse into the ever-growing madness that is Tristengrav... "We've been a band almost two years now," the band explain. "All songs were written during a very misty period of time, where the only goal was to dive head-first into a pulpit of negative/dark visions and coming back with the results and the metamorphosis at hand. Serious introspection is required, and the inwards and backwards motto is of utter importance as one of the main aspects that the lyrics lean towards is the process of becoming - a revelation and exaltation of bestial self, a primordial state that overcomes the omnipresent sinister side, yet without denying it, but embracing its fertile scourge." Indeed do Tristengrav experience a sort of "becoming" on Nychavge - is a compound word that means the radiance of the night - whereby the grisly, greasy heart of very ancient black metal (we're talking the first three Bathory albums here) is ripped asunder and suffused with chaotically chorused lead guitars, emitting a sinister and spectral aspect intrinsic to classic '80s goth and death-rock. While that latter aspect certainly renders Tristengrav's creations more melodic than they have any right to be, they likewise render them utterly crazed and delirious, whipping forth a D-beating maelstrom straight into the grave...or the bat-cave. "We chose to compose the songs in a more punky way than the first EP," the band elaborates, "as we like to bastardize the genre in a way that it is more interesting to us. We'd like to have a more personal sound in black metal, but not getting away from its roots." Sonically iconoclastic Nychavge may be, Tristengrav's heart still pumps the blackest blood:- "Satan is also the Dionysian glorification of flesh, desire, ecstasy. Our way of saying that, aside from our opposition to the modern world of mundane trivialities and lack of spiritualism, there is this eternal symbol that feeds our primal flame, leaving us without an option of accepting defeat but with a proud struggle against the katechon." Struggle no more and simply submit to Tristengrav's salacious and super-stylish onslaught. And they're only getting started with II - Nychavge! Get started with the aptly titled new track "Becoming" HERE at Caligari Records' Bandcamp, where the demo can also be pre-ordered. www.facebook.com/Tristengrav-566377280386803 www.caligarirecords.com www.facebook.com/caligarirecords www.caligarirecords.bandcamp.com |
