This April and May, Chicago post-metallers Snow Burial will embark on an eleven-date European tour with Cornwall doom outfit Monolithian. Beginning in the United Kingdom on April 23rd, circling through the continent, and closing with London's acclaimed Desertfest on May 5th, this tour will be Snow Burial's second trip across the pond. Snow Burial recently recorded at the famed Electrical Audio in early 2018, crafting a split 7-inch with Iowa City’s doom maestros Aseethe (Thrill Jockey). The tapes and vinyl will be released courtesy of Hand Of Death Records. The band commented, "We are beyond excited to get back to Europe and hit the road with our good friends in Monolithian. The opportunity to be a part of Desertfest and spend two weeks getting loud across an ocean is amazing and humbling. Add to that the chance to bring with us a brand new split tape with Aseethe from Hand of Death Records and we're on top of the world. " Formed after a Shiner reunion show, Snow Burial established themselves in the American Midwest scene and released twin EPs Oxblood Siren (2013) and Oxblood Tides (2014). Through promoting the EPs and extensive regional touring, the band earned a reputation for their crushing sound and performances. Following positive reviews, tours, and airplay, the band released their inaugural LP Victory In Ruin in January 2016. Snow Burial continued touring the US and UK in 2017, featuring an opening slot for Scott Kelly and Sanford Parker’s project Mirrors for Psychic Warfare, with coverage from Metal Hammer Magazine and multiple blogs. In spring 2017, they proudly released a new song “Burn Down the Crown,” on the Unpresidented: DIY vs. Donald Trump benefit compilation. Denmark's Taphos sets release date for debut album; reveals first tracks, to tour with Degial in May4/4/2018 Blood Harvest Records and Helter Skelter Productions set June 8th as the international release date for Taphos' highly anticipated debut album, Come Ethereal Somberness, on CD and 12" vinyl formats. Hot on the heels of Blood Harvest's compilation of the band's first two recordings as Demo MMXVI & 7" EP MMXVII, garnering widespread acclaim and heightening anticipation for their first full-length, at last arrives Taphos' Come Ethereal Somberness. As a debut LP, Come Ethereal Somberness does everything it should: stay consistent to a band's sound established on their demos whilst pointing toward new avenues. Here, Taphos do both, and then some. Hailing from the same Danish scene as Undergang and Phrenelith, Taphos create a classic - and classically gutted - style of Metal of Death. Their first recording, Demo MMXVI, possessed a darkly thrashing sound highly reminiscent of turn-of-the-'90s death metal on both sides of the Atlantic, as resolutely Scandinavian as it was American, its filthy propulsion as palatably fresh as it was authentically ancient. On the subsequent two-song EP, Taphos' sound becomes more world-eating, their songwriting aims more epic whilst not losing the raw fury of their beginnings. Now, with Come Ethereal Somberness, they synthesize the two stylistic shifts into something both berzerker and epic, manic and finesse in equal measures. Indeed, Taphos are firing on all songwriting cylinders here, as the energy literally bursts off the charts but retains a sense of composure and daresay class rarely scene in full-blooded death metal. Hammering and hideous yet nevertheless invoking a clarity that never castrates their attack, the quartet render each of these seven central compositions (bookended by moody instrumentals) a story unto itself. Hell, the titles themselves tell that story - "Ocular Blackness," "Insidious Gyres," and the equally telltale "Thrive in Upheaval" and "Impending Peril" among them - and that story is horrific. New nightmares are here, then, and Taphos will be taking them on the road with a full European tour this May alongside Swedish comrades Degial (dates after the jump). Until then, as its title ominously proclaims, Come Ethereal Somberness! Hear two new tracks off the album, the aforementioned "Thrive in Upheaval" and "Impending Peril" HERE at Blood Harvest's Bandcamp. Pre-order info can be found HERE. Established in 1990 in Częstochowa, they have quickly become one of the most respected Polish doom-death bands. This was confirmed with the favourable response to their “Nothing” (1992) demo and the debut album “Prayer to…” (1993), both receiving positive reviews from around the world. The comeback album, “Darkness…”, was recorded at No Solace Studio with production duties taken care of by M. of Mgła fame. Consisting of six tracks, it is a return to the band’s roots, naturally continuing from the band’s days in the early 90s when Mordor where one of the first representatives of Polish doom-death metal. Listeners should expect heavy riffs, strong, deep vocals and a massive sound. In short, it is a return to the old atmosphere with a much stronger sound. Untervoid officially took form during the summer of 2015, after Destroyer (Kriegsmaschine, ex-Hate) and A. (Armageddon, ex-Lost Soul, Azarath-live) finally decided to work together and started to create music, without any compromises. It took almost a year to find a proper formula and prepare several songs. Four of them have been selected and recorded in various locations, including Sound Division and No Solace studios. After the final mix and mastering at Satanic Audio in 2017, the debut mini-album is ready and self-titled. Recorded with engineer Jamie Dodd (Orange Goblin) at Flesh & Bone Studio's, Hackney and tracked by Steve 'Geezer' Watkins at Woodworm studios (which has also been used by legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi), ‘Sentinels’ is a colossal sounding record, it’s ten tracks punching the listener with an oppressive towering monolithic sound that batters, but never dulls the senses. “This album is a natural progression from our previous releases,” explains guitarist Ryan Cole. “It has the Desert Storm sound, but has moved in a much harder, darker and heavier direction.” Today we get to hear the first rumblings from ‘Sentinels’ in the shape of ‘Too Far Gone’, a brutal, pounding powerhouse of a track that tackles the bleak subject of excessive binge drinking. “It’s the paradox of hard liquor being both the cause and the remedy of the sickness,” states vocalist Matt Ryan. “Self destruction and punishment of the body. It’s inspired by the tragic tales of Bon Scott and John Bonham, along with fictional characters Ben Sanderson of Leaving Las Vegas and to a lesser extent, Jim Lahey of Trailer Park Boys. It’s a miserable outcome as our song begins with alcoholism and ends in death.” Stream ‘Too Far Gone’ here: https://soundcloud.com/apf-records/desert-storm-too-far-gone/s-oelmn Pre-order ‘Sentinels’ here: http://apfrecords.bigcartel.com/ In addition to the album’s release, the band will be hitting the road hard throughout February, March and beyond in the UK and Europe.
