American black / death primitivists Mutilate stream the entirety of their highly anticipated second album, Contagium, at heavily trafficked web-portal CVLTNation.com. Set for international release on June 7th via Iron Bonehead Productions, hear for Mutilate's Contagium in its entirety exclusively HERE.
Hailing from New York, Mutilate are literally a blast from the past. Sounding as if time stopped some 30 years ago, this quartet create crude 'n' rude black-cum-death metal that was only brewed in the darkest dungeons of the underground circa 1987. As such, they aesthetically nod to the likes of Death Strike, Helllhammer, Nunslaughter, and Goatlord (U.S.) as well as the torchbearers that came after those pioneers during the '90s like Benediction, Acheron, Usurper, and Sathanas. It's stripped-down and simple, and unapologetically so, and done with absolute belief and total authenticity. Trend-mongers couldn't tolerate Tormentium, their debut album for Iron Bonehead last year, and yet the record won the support of those who do not entry to the false.
Now, striking while the iron's red-hot, Mutilate return with the even stronger and more disgusting Contagium. Aptly titled, Contagium is a throbbing wellspring of pus and pestilence: crude 'n' rude DEATH METAL from an arcane age. Without almost effortless aplomb, Mutilate build upon the already-firm rudiments of Tormentium and simply add a darker, more crushing aspect as well as classically headbanging moments. And yet, for the even-more-overt heaviness here, Contagium also breathes a more haunting, otherworldly atmosphere - much like its cover art, as it were - perhaps best exemplified by the album's closing title track. Dizzying and delirious, or simply downtuned and doomed to fuck: there's no escaping this Contagium!

American Extreme Metallers Immortal Bird stream new track; pre-order 'Thrive On Neglect' now, tour announced
Thrive On Neglect is the forthcoming new full-length from Chicago-based blackened death grind unit Immortal Bird. The band's second LP, and first for 20 Buck Spin, takes the perilous road of musical diversity and commands it with a bloodthirsty rage.
With a multi-layered sound running the gamut from pummelling grind and death metal to dissonant blackened metal, angular noise, and complex hardcore, Immortal Bird defy simple categorization. The band's compositions fuse into strikingly savage songs, vast in their scope and more than the sum of their disparate parts, merging the progressive and destructive into a maelstrom of raging fire. Rae Amitay's seething vocal exorcisms and targeted lyrical aggression provide the connective tissue holding the stylized violence together.
In advance of its release, Immortal Bird offers up second single, "Vestigial Warnings," for public feasting.
Notes Amitay of the track:-
"This was the first full song we wrote together as our current configuration, and we've been playing it together for almost two years. Finally having it recorded and released feels like a significant step. Lyrically, this one is more 'political' than the rest of the material on the album. I'm not trying to be indirect by using metaphor, but I also don't want to limit people's perspective by being overt. With the 'eyeless, glowing grubs...sickly white, dying still...choir of weakened gasping...,' I'm not saying that I was thinking about certain people who occupy positions of power in this country but... Actually, that is what I'm saying. 'They'll tell you this is how it has to be. Abandon hope and worship apathy.'"
Stream Immortal Bird's "Vestigial Warnings" at THIS LOCATION.
Nearly four years in the making, Thrive On Neglect is a blistering statement of intent from a band ascending into full bloom. Boasting the punishingly heavy production work of Dave Otero (Archspire, Cattle Decapitation, Khemmis) ideally suited for Immortal Bird's tumultuous arrangements and orchestrated chaos, fans of Pig Destroyer, Krallice, Converge, Full Of Hell, Noisem, Cretin, Cannibal Corpse, and Cult Leader, pay heed.
Immortal Bird's Thrive On Neglect will see release on CD, LP, and digital formats July 5th. For physical pre-orders, go to THIS LOCATION. Find digital pre-orders at the 20 Buck Spin Bandcamp at THIS LOCATION where opening track, "Anger Breeds Contempt," can be streamed.

Finland's Korpiklaani release 'Bír Bír' lyric video in support of 2019 festival season + kick off AUS/NZ tour tomorrow!
Finnish Folk Metal Superstars Korpiklaani don't seem to need any rest! After playing an extensive European tour with Turisas and Trollfest in support of their latest studio album 'Kulkija' ('Wanderer'), the band is about to kick off an 8-show Australian & New Zealand run (w/ Troldhaugen) tomorrow. But before the sextet continues their current touring cycle with a North American co-headline tour with their label mates in Eluveitie in September/October, Korpiklaani will perform a string of European festival gigs. In anticipation of these upcoming summer dates - starting at Metalfest Open Air, Pilsen (CZ) on June 2nd - the band has unleashed a brand new lyric video for the Czech version of their all-time favourite 'Beer Beer', which can also be found on the tour edition of 'Kulkija'. Check out 'Bír Bír' [ft. Fleret] over on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4drIAMzV7qg
"The cooperation with Korpiklaani on the Czech version of their hit song 'Beer Beer (Bír Bír)' convinced us that even folk metal superstars like them can be nice guys with stellar manners. Not only did they prove this during the rehearsal at the Masters Of Rock Café in Zlín but also on the Masters Of Rock 2018 festival stage where we played with them after only one rehearsal of their song 'Vodka', our song 'Vizovice' and then - we believe we can say - our common song 'Beer Beer (Bír Bír)' with the Czech lyrics of our lyricist Jan Mrlík. That was a remarkable and exciting experience for us and hopefully for Korpiklaani as well. Korpiklaani, thanks to all of you!"
The track will be available digitally from Friday, May 24!

Texas melodic metal sextet Shattered Sun burst onto the scene in 2016 with the release of their debut full-length album, Hope Within Hatred - debuting at #1 on the CMJ Loud Rock charts, Top 20 on the iTunes Metal chart and Top 50 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. In the same year, the band scored a coveted spot on the biggest touring festival in rock and metal music history, the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. After completing tours with artists like Testament, Exodus, Soilwork, Soulfly and Scar Symmetry and additional performances at Welcome to Rockville Festival and New England Metal & Hardcore Festival, the band continued proving their potency in 2018 on the legendary Vans Warped Tour - cementing their status as one of the breakout success stories in rising metal at the time.
Then suddenly that year, Shattered Sun vocalist Marcos Leal received news about his greatest gift yet - he and his partner Michelle would welcome their first child, a daughter. This, in addition to other band members expanding their own families and experiencing significant life changes, lead to a brief hiatus for the group.
Now, Shattered Sun have returned with a refreshed line-up (including new members Sebastian Elizondo of Darkness Divided and Juan "PB" Hinojosa of Shaping the Legacy and formerly of Upon a Burning Body), new music and a matured sound, without sacrificing the roots of the melodic metal that put their name on the map. Today, the band is thrilled to reveal their first new music to impact in three years, a heavy-yet-heartfelt track entitled "Shades of Melodie", written for and dedicated to Marcos Leal's baby daughter, Melodie.
"Shades of Melodie" premiered this morning via Corpus Christi, TX commercial rock station C101, and right now, its coinciding music video - filmed and directed by Matthew Guajardo - can be viewed for the first time via Outburn. Watch here: https://outburn.com/interviews/shattered-sun-reinvented/
Vocalist Marcos Leal says about the song:-
"This song is particularly special to me given it's about my daughter Melodie. It's safe to say that becoming a father changes a man - it becomes your every living and dying breath to be the guide and protector to your child. I know a lot of people can relate to the message of this song and I'm excited for you all to get a taste of the new era of Shattered Sun!"
Guitarist and backing vocalist Jessie Santos adds:-
"After a short-lived hiatus, I'm pleased to show our devoted followers a reborn Shattered Sun with an album soon to be released and music video showcasing our first single. Heartfelt, heavy music awaits those who have stood by our side."
While Shattered Sun are in the midst of preparing for the release of their new, currently-untitled album, many aspects of recording and other requirements still need to be completed. As the band is currently working independently and without label assistance, they've turned to their dedicated fans to contribute to the finalization process with new album pre-orders and bundle purchases. 100% of these funds will go towards the completion and release of the album.
The pre-order and contribution campaign has been launched via GoFundMe, and can be found here: https://www.gofundme.com/shatteredsun3
The GoFundMe campaign not only includes an instant download of "Shades of Melodie" upon contribution/pre-order, but also allows fans to hear the album in full a week before its pending release date. Many more one-of-a-kind perks - including limited edition t-shirts, autographed posters and even cameos in future music videos - are available and can be found at the link above. All contributors will have their names included in the new album booklet as an additional thank you, and the band plans to release a new song once they reach their goal!
The band says about the GoFundMe campaign:-
"We are currently in the process of finishing our new album, as well as shopping for a new label home. We have decided not to wait - we're ready to share our new single with all of you and introduce you to a new era of Shattered Sun. As we've prepared to release this album independently, we have exhausted all our funds - personally covering all costs on the production of this album. We ask that our amazing fans consider pre-ordering our album via our new GoFundMe campaign, which will in turn help us finish the album and bring you new music with the remaining funds raised. We are nothing without our fans behind us! Thank you!"
Catch Shattered Sun performing live at Corpus Christi, TX's House of Rock on July 12! The band is currently planning to hit the road this summer on tour - stay tuned for details!
Shattered Sun is a remarkable example of hard work and determination, coming a long way from their industrious origins. Shattered Sun echo the roots of Southern Texas, reflected on their debut album Hope Within Hatred, available in-stores and online at iTunes, Amazon Music, and wherever digital music is sold.
SHATTERED SUN is:
Marcos Leal -Vocals
Jessie Santos - Guitar and Vocals
Sebastian Elizondo - Guitar and Vocals

New Zealand Thrashers Alien Weaponry release "Ahi Kā" music video; currently touring North America, European tour this summer
Alien Weaponry have released the music video for their new single, "Ahi Kā", which premiered last week over at Billboard. The song represents the first new material from the New Zealand based metal trio since releasing their 2018 debut album, Tū. Fans can check out the music video for "Ahi Kā" via the link below. The track is also featured on Adult Swim's new, streaming-only compilation record Metal Swim 2.
Alien Weaponry's singer-guitarist Lewis de Jong talks about "Ahi Ka" (Which, like many of the band's songs, is sung in New Zealand's indigenous language of Te Reo Māori):-
"Ahi Kā was inspired by the Auckland city council's decision to burn down what was considered to be the unsightly indigenous Maori village of Okahu Bay in advance of Queen Elizabeth II's 1953 visit. The eviction sparked a 40-year battle for the native Ngati Whatua to reclaim their land, including protests and battles with the police. Amid worldwide criticism, a small portion of the original land was ultimately returned with an apology and some compensation."
Watch "Ahi Ka" HERE
"Ahi Kā" is available for streaming and purchase through Spotify and iTunes (respectively) over HERE!
Fans and music critics alike have applauded the band's approach to unifying Te Reo Māori (the native language of New Zealand) with thrash metal sensibilities; ultimately creating a sound that is driven by emotionally and politically charged conflict while boasting youthful, warrior-like resilience.
Both Lewis and Henry are of Ngati Pikiāo and Ngati Raukawa (Māori tribal) descent, and began their schooling at a kura kaupapa Māori (full immersion Māori language school) where singing waiata (songs) and performing haka were a daily routine. Also ingrained in their early education were stories of New Zealand history told to them by their father, who would also introduce them to the music of Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Anthrax, Ministry, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many others.
Alien Weaponry was formed in 2010 by brothers Lewis (vocals & guitar) and Henry de Jong (drums), who were 8 and 10 years old at the time. The two would later move to the small town of Waipu in 2012, and went on to meet Ethan Trembath (bass) there in 2013. The de Jong brothers came up with the name Alien Weaponry after watching the film District 9.
Alien Weaponry have also been nominated for "Best International Breakthrough Band" at the 2019 Heavy Music Awards (UK). The event takes place on August 22nd at the O2 Forum Kentish Town in London. Fan voting is now open at https://vote.heavymusicawards.com/ until June 27th.

In 2018, Mudd Flux stirred the souls of Mid-America with their debut EP release, MDFX, featuring four tracks including the singles All I Am (Am I) and Beyond Our Horizon. Each track is encompassed by the thunderous, articulate roar of the instruments opening an atmospheric space for soaring, heart-stopping vocals. Written and produced by the group itself, the EP personifies their experiences and talent as a whole, as well as defining an unprecedented tone to forge ahead of the mainstream.
Extensive touring during the “Accelerate From High” tour, introduced the group to multiple cities, diverse audiences and annual festivals. Many of the performances positioned Mudd Flux in support of national acts such as Davey Suicide, Crazytown, Locust Grove, Sons Of Texas and Aranda. By mid-year, their festival performances included Rocklahoma, Twister Fest, Rock the River, Put Up or Shut Up Metal Fest II, SuSpence Fest and the Midwest Legacy Rally.
Moving into 2019, Mudd Flux are just as relentless with their commitment to releasing their first full album via Sliptrick Records, accompanied by continuous touring and festival performances at SXSW and Rocklahoma. The group also have performances as support for the likes of Eve to Adam, UADA and Saxon.
Mudd Flux are:
Becky Scheufler – Vocals
Jason Gautney – Guitar

Need All Exchange are a modern metal band from Brownsville, Texas, fusing all manner of sounds in a sharply honed sonic assault. In the sweltering summer of 2012 creative energies aligned. From the void a mortally wounded dragon re-emerged from lifelessness. A follower of the sacred Dharma sought to find a middle path, somewhere between progressive complexity and raw simple tones. From the roots of the earth came an inspired rhythm section, defined by a colourful drummer infused with a legendary spirit, wreaking his own brand of ‘Pandamonium.’
These Texans aren’t your traditional metal band. In fact, their vision is much greater than that of even being just a metal band. They seek to meld a diverse pallet of musical and artistic inspirations. Need All Exchange fuse the influences of everyone from Death to Faith No More, by way of Sepultura and Pantera. Their unique origin story, especially with regards to their bassist Muelaquin, only serves to propel them forward in their native Rio Grande Valley scene. You see, Muelaquin is probably the most popular member of the band. However, he chooses to manifest himself only in the form of a panda mannequin when joining the band onstage.
Now, Need All Exchange are seeking to expand beyond their local circuit, where they have opened for acts like Spite, and Sons of Texas. These metal warriors are boldly embracing new frontiers. A project defined by re-awakening of creative passions, the band have doubled down on their goals. Coming off of 2017’s El Proximo Viaje EP, the band is preparing for their next release, one that promises to be their strongest yet. Always a group to shy from norms, Need All Exchange are sworn to stray from the path.
Chicago based Blackened Death Thrashers Beyond Deth have signed a two year deal with Vargheist Records (USA). Vargheist will be re-releasing Beyond Deth's first album "The Age Of Darkness" in July of 2019 as well as their sophomore effort in 2020. Vargheist already has a unique roster that seems to be growing quite quickly and Beyond Deth's multi genre traits should be a solid fit.
